Myungin Dumplings - Review - Northridge - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Myungin Dumplings is a long-standing Koreatown staple and the fact they’re now operating out of a tiny space in the Northridge Fashion Center should be extremely exciting for everyone in the area. Plain and simple, you won’t find many Korean dumplings in town better than the ones served at Myungin. The softball-sized King Steamed Dumplings come filled with pork and kimchi, and though there are only four to an order, that’s more than enough for a quick solo lunch. If you’re with a group though, be sure to throw in some wang mandu (spicy pan-fried dumplings) and beef dumpling soup." - Brant Cox

Food: 4/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Parking: 10/10 The parking is so convenient, there’s plenty of spots! Inside the restaurant it appeared to be a slower day for them, there were no customers. The ambiance inside is charming and clean. The gentleman who helped us was nice and was a good server overall. The spicy wings were not spicy whatsoever, they’re so sweet. The banchans were so delicious. The crispy chicken buns were good. On the other hand the bulgogi portion was extremely small. The overall taste was average. I personally wouldn’t come back.

Last Sunday, my BFF and I gave this place a tryout of our curiosity. It was about 30 minutes after 1:00 pm their opening time on Sunday. There were 4 tables with other guests that got there before us, then another table of guests that came after us. That was a good sign! They were obviously understaffed. Only a girl that was making buns on an area, another girl who sat all the guests, took orders, served, took care on all the used dishes & cleaned all tables, and also processed payments. So, expect the service a bit slow if you aren't in a rush. On 3 of our orders, we enjoyed the spicy shrimp dumplings and soy garlic chicken more. Although, we think the chicken could be nicer if they were a bit more crunchier. They were in pretty good portions and decent price. We spent under $60.00 for 3 dishes. Plenty of parking. Nice service. Overall, clean & maintained in the dining area and restroom.

Google
This was a reasonable meal, but not top notch overall. But we didn't order any dumplings, so perhaps that would have made a difference. The banchan - the side dishes, were mediocre. But at least they provided some! Three dishes - an average kimchi, a very dull pickled radish (not a lot of flavor), and some shredded lettuce with thousand island dressing (not exciting). We had a half order of soy garlic fried chicken - very tasty, although you can't always tell what part of the chicken you are eating (they are cutting up the chicken themselves, which is not unusual). THe fried chicken is cooked very well and the coating is crispy, then they just dump whichever sauce you order on top. I would order this again. We also ordered bulgogi, which is a new dish and not on the regular menu. This was VERY good, I wish we ordered a full order instead of a half order (for two people). Very tasty. Servings were a bit small but reasonably priced. I did like that they are cooking everything fresh for you. Service was friendly and reasonably attentive. I guess I was just put off by the mediocre banchan.

Google
Perfect lunch or dinner spot, especially on a cold and rainy day! We did family style and ordered a mix of regular and kimchi king steamed dumplings (which were massive), spicy shrimp dumplings, dumpling beef soup with rice cake, and sweet and spicy fried chicken. The dumplings were made fresh and cooked on the spot. The fried chicken wasn’t too greasy or heavy. Our favorites were the spicy shrimp dumplings and kimchi king steamed dumplings. Overall, everything was flavorful, packed with fresh ingredients and felt homemade. Service was phenomenal and thank you so much to Jannelle for making us feel at home! She was so kind and attentive!

Google
Stopped here for lunch, and it was amazing! Had the sweet and spicey fried chicken, pork buns, green onion pancake, and pan-fried dumplings. Everything was great, and our server was very nice.

Google
We ordered a ½ order of garlic soy fried chicken (7 pieces) for 2 people, and it was more than enough for us. The chicken was so aromatic and each piece was juicy and cooked perfectly. We also ordered the boiled pork dumplings, green onion pancakes and a side of rice. The pickled daikon complimented everything. It was all so delicious and filling! I enjoyed my meal here very much and I definitely will be returning.

Google
Really impressive dumplings! They definitely don't skimp on the fillings and the dumplings are huge, plus the complimentary sides were awesome. Fantastic flavors, quick service, and friendly staff. You definitely get more than your money's worth here. Would definitely eat here again.

My son loves dumplings, so we were excited to check out one of the dumpling places that just opened in our local area -- Myungin dumplings! Our unsavory experience started as soon as we got seated. The waitress proceeded to clean the table with an obviously dirty towel without using any visible disinfecting solution. Then, with her very unfriendly and unwelcoming attitude, brought out four glasses of water along with the very odd and dirty-looking container that appeared to be a plastic bottle with the top cut off and a faded company name and logo printed on the side (picture attached). The water inside the container did not look clean and was very unappealing. Then she started to bring out and very unprofessionally threw some small dishes on the table at us, such as kimchi, shredded cabbage, and sweet and sour radish. One of the dishes had hair on it (picture attached). When we mentioned there was a hair on it, she removed the dish and walked away looking upset that we pointed it out. The manager did not ever come out to offer anything, not even an apology. The chicken fried rice we ordered was brought out on the plate and it was so poorly plated that it looked like someone had already eaten half of it. It was very unappetizing (picture attached). The menu showed "Dim Sum 10 pieces. Steam dumplings w/pork, shrimp, egg, cabbage, and chives". The "Dim Sum" dumplings that we actually received were mostly stuffed with chopped inexpensive filler vegetables, a miniscule amount of chopped pork, and it was very difficult to find any bits of shrimp. There were some dishes that we ordered that were just never brought out to us and the wait staff made no mention of it and neither did we. We just wanted to leave as soon as possible. What a disappointing and unsatisfactory dining experience!!! I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Yelp
This tiny, fast casual place in the same strip mall as Guitar Center has some of the very best fried chicken you will ever eat. But you'd better bring at least one other person because the portions are huge!!! Half a chicken feels more like a chicken and a half, and a whole chicken will feed a family of 4-6 people. This is Korean style fried chicken, so the flavor profile is Asian instead of American Southern, and the difference is a pleasant departure. Crispy, lightly battered skin gives way to very juicy, piping hot and tender meat below. It's packed with flavor, which is further enhanced by a number of sauce options. I always get the chicken plain and order the sauces on the side so I can dip as I like and enjoy multiple flavors. It's a great way to go. Now, this place is also known for its dumplings, which are equally stellar. Anything you choose will be satisfying, but I'm partial to the spicy shrimp dumplings, which are indeed very spicy, and very enjoyable. Service is friendly and attentive, but this is a simple place, so don't expect too, too much on that front. If you're looking for great fried chicken on National Fried Chicken Day, and you're wanting something out of the ordinary, then this is the place for you.

Yelp
What a tasty find!! This place is in a larger strip mall and while it doesn't look like a traditional restaurant, it is a sit-down, full service spot. My friend and I shared a large Cass beer and shared the spicy shrimp dumplings and the dim sum dish. Everything was really tasty! They bring you their version of banchan, which is tradition kim chi, pickled radish, and some shredded cabbage with house dressing. I had some leftovers the next day and everything was still good. Great inexpensive dinner!

Yelp
Frankenstein's Culinary Adventure at Myungin Dumplings Frankenstein decided to embark on a new culinary journey by visiting a restaurant he had never tried before. Myungin Dumplings had been on his radar for quite some time, but he had never made the effort to go. Today, however, was different. Frankenstein, accompanied by the Bride of Frankenstein, finally ventured into Myungin Dumplings, and the experience was nothing short of fantastic! Delightful Dining Experience Banchan and Side Dishes The meal began with a delightful array of banchan side dishes. The pickled radish was refreshing, and the kimchi had just the right amount of spice to satisfy their taste buds. Both were declared good by Frankenstein and his bride. Main Courses For the main courses, Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein indulged in several delectable options: Beef Bulgogi: This dish was flavorful and cooked to perfection. It was an instant hit. Pan Fried Dumplings with Pork, Shrimp, and Cabbage: These dumplings were a highlight of the meal, with a perfect balance of flavors and a satisfying texture. Original Fried Chicken: Although tasty, Frankenstein found it to be a bit on the dry side. However, it was still enjoyable. Hidden Gem Revealed Frankenstein was amazed that Myungin Dumplings had been hidden in plain sight all this time, tucked away in a strip mall across the street from California Fish Grill. The discovery of this culinary gem was a revelation, and both Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein realized they had been missing out on a wonderful experience. A Note on Nearby Dining Options While Frankenstein enjoyed Myungin Dumplings immensely, he noted that the soon-to-open Kalaveras restaurant, known for its tacos and loud dance music, might not be to his taste. However, he highly recommends Myungin Dumplings to anyone looking for a delicious meal. In conclusion, Frankenstein's visit to Myungin Dumplings was a triumph. The food was very good, and he encourages everyone to try it. If you're in the area, don't hesitate to explore this hidden treasure. Myungin Dumplings is waiting to delight your taste buds! https://www.yelp.com/user_photos?select=o5KmYmhY41bVLfzF0WD7ag&userid=ivL13L-4XSYepkfoFfB_8g https://www.yelp.com/user_photos?select=TcdCcfo161_0nfhid-xvZA&userid=ivL13L-4XSYepkfoFfB_8g

Yelp
A hidden gem in the northridge area. If you are looking for good korean dumplings and fried chicken, this is the place to go. I've been to a lot of korean fried chicken places, but this place,, this place makes really good korean fried chicken. The crunch is different from what I used to eat. Their garlic soy is so finger licking good! I should say better than bb.q chicken and kyo chon. It's that good! Their beef dumpling soup is also very good. We also ordered the fried rice, this one too is good. My only complain is their fried rice portion is a little small. The next time we visit here again, we'll try their bun/siopao and fried or steam dumplings which is their specialty. The place is very cozy and clean. Staff are nice too. But the service is on the slow side. I guess maybe they want to make sure that their chicken is cooked to perfection. We'll definitey come back here.

Yelp
Really great service. The food was fresh and very tasty. Great flavors. We especially loved the Malatang soup and the KangJung chicken.

Yelp
We always like coming here because it's usually never packed and the service and food is always great. I like to drink the Korean beer the have here, I've never had it served anywhere else that I've noticed. Place is always kept clean, service is fast and friendly and prices are fair and food is always on point. Lots of parking that is shared with multiple businesses. We will def return here again and recommend to all.

Yelp
I haven't tried everything on their menu yet, but so far everything I've tasted has been delicious. The Soy Garlic Fried Chicken is the best!! I'll definitely keep coming back here. Also, the service is excellent. The server was very attentive and kept checking if everything was okay or if we needed anything. It made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Great food and great service -- highly recommended!

Yelp
Stop Tonight for some dinner. Found this place on yelp. Let me tell you it did not disappoint. From food, service everything was good. We really enjoyed a good quite dinner with different options. We will definitely return. Its a nice location with soft music.

Yelp
The portion is really small, I ate the beef soup as lunch and took the chicken to go, after finish the soup I am still hungry. My friend ordered the dumpling soup and it's not a lot of vegetables and just lots of onions. The chicken is not spicy and has bone in it, it's also the same price at what you can get at bb.q chicken but worse quality than bb.q chicken. Service and environment are both good. However I don't go back for the food.
google avatar

Yelp
OMG!!! Hubby & I came across this little gem and instantly loved it! Plenty of seating was available, our hostesses was amazing at recommending food choices and the beer was nice & cold. This has to be some of the tastiest fried chicken I have tried, the flavors are amazing!! The dumplings are just heaven! I really hope to come back soon!

Yelp
I was so craving some bao buns. Especially the ones that have kimchi in it. That made it sound so enticing. And then when I saw red bean fillings that went over the top for me. So I went in and picked up a couple of orders and as you can see, it's not very disappointing. The actual buns themselves are so soft and sweet. The filling is pretty generous and it's the perfect amount of bun and filling. It's not like some places where it takes a few bites just to get to the filling. I hit on the first bite. I think that's why they're not giant size which is OK with me. It's the balance between size and optimization which it does really well. The flavor was also spot on. It was not too salty, not too spicy not to anything, it was just right.
google avatar

Terry P.

Yelp
The service was good, but the food was just okay. Over-hyped food. Everything was just ok, not great, not worth returning, no wow factor. I was really hoping the KFC would be awesome, but as I said, it was just okay. Try as you will, but don't expect what others are saying about how great it is.

Yelp
There's another location of this dumpling house in Koreatown. I wanna say they're equally as good maybe almost as good out here in Chatsworth.

Yelp
Five years later, and I still love coming here for their dumplings. I love the king mandu, but goodness there was a rough day for me when I was doing an onboarding for a remote job that I would later resign from. The man who was training me and others was perfectly friendly, if not a bit passive aggressive. I had not eaten all day and ordered some dumplings to reward myself for starting a new job (and also to nourish myself). I waited an hour throughout the training before I could eat my dumplings, out of politeness. The dumplings' aroma wafted throughout in front of me, and my mouth was salivating, my stomach grumbling, and I was frankly quite hangry. The man's voice started to irritate me, which is no fault of his. When I finally got to eat, the king mandu (which are already delicious) felt like drinking water in a desert. Needless, to say, the dumplings are quality.
google avatar

Segun M.

Yelp
The flavor was good, but the dish lacked substance--very little actual meat. Most of it was chicken backs, which left us disappointed. Even the whole chicken we ordered had barely any white meat, just a small portion of breast. It was underwhelming, especially since we were looking forward to a great Korean fried chicken meal. We really wanted to love this place and were hoping to become regulars, but given the poor value, it's unlikely we'll be back.
google avatar

Trinh N.

Yelp
Delicious food. Service was attentive even though they're really busy and it looks like just a mom and daughter working the room. They're hustling! Will be back!

Yelp
I always have very low expectations for really good Korean food outside of Ktown but continue to be on the search, so I'm always down to give a highly rated spot a try! Myungin was a pleasant surprise near the Northridge mall. The dumplings, especially the king bao (4 to an order). Good ratio of bun to meat filling. The fried chicken (garlic soy) was tasty as well. But, the real surprise was the spicy beef soup. It was plentiful, comforting and completely satisfying. The young lady working the tables was quick, attentive and very sweet. She was the only server but had everything under control with a lovely smile. Cute, clean space so that checks all the boxes. We'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Myung In Dumplings may not be much to look at, its a pretty simple spot, but the food is absolutely bomb! We ordered the fried rice, kimchi dumplings, spicy shrimp dumplings, and a scallion pancake--everything was flavorful and hit the spot. The real MVP, though, was the one guy running all the tables. I have no idea how he managed, but service was smooth, and we had no issues whatsoever. Definitely a hidden gem for dumpling lovers, and we'll be back for more!

Had a good time, waitress was on point and had a dope black sabbath T-shirt. Food was lit. No complaints would come again. Thank you!

Yelp
Tables & a couple booths. Easy to sit and our server was very attentive and kind. The fried chicken was FIRE. We ordered 1/2 soy ginger & 1/2 sweet and sour. It was crispy and cooked to perfection. We ordered the dim sum which was perfect with a splash of vinegar and chili sauce. NEW MENU ITEM: Spicy Pork (or Bulgogi). We tried the spicy pork. It was delicious, not too spicy but great flavor. Grilled onions and chives added to the amazing taste of the sauce. The plate was a little small as we were sharing as an appetizer. Came with sides: salad, kimchi, rice, chili sauce - we got extras of the kimchi because it was so good*

Kyle B.

Yelp
This place was decently good overall. The service was great and the wait time for the food to arrive wasn't too bad. The prices were pretty good for the servings. They do not skimp out on the filling. *No. 12 Korean Style Kimchi Dumpling (4.5 Stars) The best thing I ordered here. Definitely better with chili oil and the dumping soy sauce. *No. 8 Pan Fried Dumplings (3.5 stars) *Ramen Dumpling Soup (2.5 stars) Honestly lacked a lot of flavor. Had to add a lot of things to give more depth into the flavor.

Yelp
Found this spot here on Yelp and have been craving dim sum... so we made the drive down. We arrived around 3pm, an off time apparently, and had the place to ourselves. Very nice young man was manning the cash register and served as our waiter. He was attentive, eager to answer our questions, and very focused on giving us a good experience. When you first get seated, they bring you little plates of Kimchee, marinated radish, and lettuce with a thousand islands like dressing. We ordered the 12 piece dim sum, the doughy dumplings and half an order of the fried chicken. I don't know this food as well as I do other cuisines, but I know when I get food that I enjoy eating... and this was definitely that.

Yelp
This place has been in my neighborhood for few years, can't believe I just found out about it. Though they are known for their dumplings, their Korean fried chicken are amazing. They're situated in huge strip lot next to Guitar Center. Parking is plentiful. The place itself is clean, medium sized with a cozy atmosphere. We ordered chicken fried rice, Korean style pork pan fried dumplings, green onion pancake and half/half soy garlic chicken and original. The fried chicken was so fricking delicious. The soy garlic sauce was perfectly balance and better than bbq chicken version. The chicken was very crispy with medium breading and meat was juicy. The pieces was big with tons of meat on them. Reasonable price too and good value for $27. I thought chicken fried rice and green onion pancake were okay and nothing special. Unfortunately, Korean style pork pan fried dumplings was a miss. Soon as I picked it up with my chopstick, the wrapper and filling fell apart. They still have a nice flavor though. Definitely will come back to try other dishes next time, but for sure I'll be back for the fried chicken. Make sure to check-in on Yelp for free soda.

Ryna C.

Yelp
I guess MaraTang was a new menu for them and our server recommended this dish for us to try. I am glad she recommended it. It was a spicy soup so I ordered the mild one. It was still spicy, but so good and delicious. I believe they are very popular soups in Korea. I think you should try them if you like spicy soup. The steamed dumplings, dim sum, were tasty, too. It took some time for the foods to be served, but I could tell they made dumplings after I placed an order. They were freshly prepared so, I didn't mind.
google avatar

Rey E.

Yelp
Yummy Korean fried chicken here. Savory garlic is the flavor to get. I also tried the dumplings and I would definitely get the pan fried ones. The bao buns need a lil more meat, but that's just my liking. It's still freshly made, so still a plus

Yelp
Omg . This army soup best in LA almost similar lime in young-san ( dragon MT) army base Army soup at Seoul. I can't eat spicy foods even though Kimchi so ask them for not spicy so they put little bit sauce - army soup suppose to have lots of cabbage ( so sweet & digestive enzymes ) they did Instead of Kimchi - so so good !! Thanks Service is of course good . Their korean fried chicken ( soy garlic) also good too I came 3 times per week
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Pros -parking lot Cons -their wings are so dry they are inedible -very limited side dishes Rating 4/10

Kady T.

Yelp
The soy garlic chicken is really good! It's better than other Korean fried chicken places in my opinion. We also got sweet and spicy fried chicken flavor but prefer the soy garlic over that flavor. The fried chicken overall is nicely crispy with flavorful sauce, however I do wish there was more meat on the chicken. The spicy shrimp dumplings we got were also tasty I would definitely come back for the soy garlic chicken! Service was great and the food comes with banchan/small side dishes.

Yelp
On Friday, June 21, 24, a trip down south, we were looking for something different for lunch. We threw around ideas and finally settled on dumplings. I did a Google search of best dumplings and Myungin populated during my search. I then jumped on Yelp for reviews. Yelp had lots of reviews that gave Myungin Dumplings, 5-star reviews. The location is in a strip mall and parking is not that great. Limited parking due to the other businesses in the area. The restaurant itself is your average sized strip mall eatery. We were able to watch the owner prepare the dumplings by hand. This was an added bonus for us. The menu isn't super extensive but what the items available were tasty, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The owner waited on us and explained she was short-handed waitstaff. I appreciate when restaurants advise me of possible waitstaff/cook issues, in advance. We ate there at about 1245 hrs and the restaurant wasn't super busy. The ambiance was quiet, cool and pleasant. We could definitely carry on a conversation. Restaurant was clean, organized with all condiments on the table, including chopsticks. Women restroom was clean and fully stocked. We were served homemade kimchi, which was delicious but not spicy. Shredded cabbage with a sauce and a yellow pickled radish, all were delicious. We ordered King Steamed Dumplings, the owner allowed us to mix dumplings, since we wanted to try them all. The pork and vegetables was my favorite. The Sweet Red Bean was sweet and not my favorite. The Dim Sum was out of this world fantastic and highly recommend this dish. The filling was so flavorful and steamed to perfection. The Pan Fried Dumplings were outstanding and would definitely order this dish in the future. The filling was cooked to perfection and had a generous amount of filling. The best for last, the Soy Garlic Fried Chicken was beyond delicious. The chicken was served piping hot, so crispy and a honey type sauce...OMG! Definitely order this dish. We all agreed, including my 8-yr old niece that Myungin Dumplings was one of the best restaurants by far. It will not disappoint.
google avatar

Leslie Q.

Yelp
The server Jaime (?) is super nice. She deserves 5 stars. The fried chicken is good, but the dim sum is a little dry hence the 4 stars. The place is clean.
google avatar

Isabel B.

Yelp
Took a chance on this spot when looking at food via yelp around northridge and was definitely not disappointed. The 4.5 star ratings are definitely on the dot. The chicken was delicious and crispy.. much better than bbq which I know is also in the area. We loved the dumpling soup as well. The soup was light but very rich in flavor and the banchan was great! Overall we will definitely be coming back again to try out more of their menu. So glad I followed my gut and listened to yelp!!

Yelp
Great Hole In The Wall restaurant! I had not tried authentic fresh Dumplings before and was very pleased. There's a section where you can watch as they prepare the dough and make the dumplings. I really admired the Chef's nimble procedures. The Banchan selection was quite tasty (Kimchi, Onion-Radish, Sprouts, etc). Service was prompt. I'll be back!

Yelp
The fried chicken is amazing. It's worth it and the best thing they have. The dumplings are decent and well made

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp and decided to try it. We ordered 3 items on the menu, fried rice, fried chicken and dumplings. Fried rice was ok it was bland and so was the fried chicken. I think needed more seasonings. Chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Too bad there was no ketchup in sight, would've been much better for my taste buds. Boiled dumplings were my favorite out of the 3 items I ordered. Service was good and the place is kept clean. Plenty of parking and price was decent. I would still come back if in the area.

Yelp
First time here. Only thing enjoyed was the buns. That was decent. Food is mostly on the horrible side. Wanted to like it, really did. Low quality and not consistent on the portions. Also the price does not match the food. It does not. Place was empty. Literally no one was there when arrived and after eating. That says a lot already. The vibe was just not there. It didn't not feel Korean. The fried chicken was literally fried bones. Hardly any meat. Also don't get the pancakes because it's just like nothing. $12 for that is just crazy. Also server messed up on the shrimp and gave us pork. Whatever, just let it go. Won't be coming back.

Yelp
Wow I never gotten scammed like this I paid $20 dollars for chicken fried rice I got the bag felt light but the little I know the container was more than half empty when I got home to eat it wasn't even enough for one person they should be ashamed to charge so much for a quarter of rice

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for some time and so glad we did! It was the perfect blend of dumplings, soup options and KFC (Korean fried chicken)! The hubby ordered the beef short rib soup and steamed buns with red bean paste. He loved the soup- meat was so tender and fell off the bone! Soup came with a bowl of white rice. Steamed dumplings were huge and pillowy & soft. I ordered the 1/2 Soy garlic KFC (with the sauce on the side). So crispy and crunchy on the outside and pretty juicy on the inside. My only complaint was that the chicken pieces (or rather the chicken itself) is the size of a Cornish game hen! Such small pieces that I was given a breast, thigh, drumstick and at least 3 wings. I usually can only eat a thigh or a breast from KFC or Popeyes but since these were micro chicken pieces (like it hardly had any meat on them!), I was able to eat a thigh, breast and a wing! Half chicken is enough to share between 2 people but you probably need to add something else with it to make it a full meal. They give you a banchan of kimchi, shredded cabbage with thousand island dressing and thinly sliced pickled radish to start (you can ask for more for free!). The young woman that served us was friendly and funny! She handled everything (a one woman show) from taking orders (including DoorDash), serving food, cleaning the tables, etc... Prices are ok; standard pricing for KFC but I thought the soup ($18.99) & steamed dumplings ($15.99) were $1-$2 too much. But we will return to try the other dumplings/soups/other KFC sauce flavors!

Yelp
The spicy pork and shrimp dumplings are delicious! They're well seasoned and filled with little shrimps and green onion which I love. Their dipping sauce is spicy and savory and I always ask for an extra side. Additionally, the fried shrimp hasn't failed us once! Always crispy and fresh from our experiences. Thank you!
