Managed to try NaOh’s summer menu and it was a memorable experience. Reservations are hard to secure, likely due to their limited seating, but I really appreciated how the tables are spaced out for privacy. The ambiance is cozy, and service was efficient and friendly throughout.
The Homemade Tofu with Aged Soy Sauce was simple and clean, though rather ordinary. In contrast, the Mugunji and Pork Belly Jeon was packed with flavour and left me wanting more.
The Wild Summer Croaker with fine vegetables, gochujang, sesame leaf, and rock seaweed was beautifully plated and well-balanced.
The highlight was the Gamasot Albap and White Kimchi Jjigae. The Golden Queen rice was out of this world. I’ve never tasted rice with such depth and aroma before. The Spicy Pollack Muchim, Squash Blossom, and Shrimp Jeon were all solid accompaniments.
The Samgyetang was another standout. The chicken was incredibly tender and comforting, though I found the ginseng flavour a little mild. Still, I’m drooling just thinking about that tender chicken.
Unfortunately, the Summer Melon Bingsu was underwhelming. It felt a bit too simple and lacked the creativity of the savoury dishes. A more thought-through dessert would’ve rounded off the meal nicely.
That said, the Hong Ssang Ri Maesil drink (green plums (maesil) by the renowned Korean producer, Hong Ssang Ri Farms) was a delicious, refreshing finish.
Overall, NaOh is definitely worth visiting for anyone who appreciates elevated Korean flavours and thoughtful plating. Just be sure to book early!
