San Francisco Bay Area Restaurant Closings: Manila Bowl, Birch & Rye, and Tofino Wines | Eater SF
"Irving Street's Naan N' Curry closed as of February 1 to make way for Sunset Indian Cuisine; new owners have taken over the space, updated the decor and furniture, expanded the menu, and will continue to stay open until 2 a.m. like its predecessor." - Lauren Saria

"I walked in craving Indian and hit the jackpot: when tables full of Indians are eating somewhere, you know it’s real — the naan was bigger than my face and only $1, and the curries came in large portions, were spicy and full of flavor; some of the best I’ve had in a long time." - Matthew Kepnes
We stumbled upon this place and we are glad we did. The food was really tasty (it’s hard to find good biryani and kabab in the area otherwise). It’s also very reasonably priced, much cheaper than a lot of places we’ve been to
We’re already planning to visit again soon

Just wanted to know what kind of food they served to the customers . Those are burned even the biriyani was not fresh . 100% sure they prepared it with left over rice . Those rice were very hard and foods are all burned . And the service was even gross . Not gonna recommend this place for any kind of food .

I had late lunch here the other day. The food was good, reasonable prices, and the owner was both friendly and helpful during my visit. Interestingly, based on a previous review, it seems their mood can vary—perhaps it's just the nature of working in the retail restaurant business. One thing to note is that the restaurant feels more like a takeout spot, as all food is served in takeout boxes, even for dine-in customers.

Food was amazing and super cheap! They also didn’t ask me to tip. I used to go to the Berkeley location years ago and honestly, the quality hasn’t sunk. I will be coming back all the time!

Yelp
Really yummy food we won't mind driving again just for food there. It's a one man show but the show must go on.

Yelp
DUDE! Naan N Curry is a blast from the past! Same owners as the ones on telegraph at Berkeley.
Man, this place takes me back! Super friendly owners, spoke about the old days.
Still has the Berkeley prices, even though in SF.
Clean friendly location and service. This was wonderful. I am so glad it opened up.
I got my nostalgic chicken tikka masala and rice. Tasted great.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of stopping here twice over the last 24 hours. The first time needed to bring back some food to the hotel after doing some boozing at Norton's Booze Emporium up the street.
I ordered Chicken Curry and rice ($2). The Curry is a thick dark curry. It was so good, dare I say amazing, the rice was long grain Indian rice. The next day I had to go back prior to heading to the airport. We had Chicken Curry again and The Prawn Korma. Both were once again amazing, The Shrimp were nice size.
It's a one man show, he takes the orders and then cooks the food. He's adamant that it's a no tip establishment and that he busses the tables as well. The prices are very reasonable. I strongly recommend this place for great and filling Indian food.
As someone noted the owner is kind of a character, but I can kind of appreciate that. I'm very happy to support his business. I'll back back!

Yelp
Rude service. The owner yelled at us when we asked for water. Started swearing at us uninitiated when asked about the links to other naan n curry. He was definitely self medicating and treated us like he didn't want company. Terrible terrible service.

Yelp
Food isn't too bad. Not the best, sometimes too oily, sometimes bone on the lamb and sometimes not. If there is bone on the lamb , you don't get much meat. Their hours are not consistent so you never know when they're open. Owners nice though but miss the previous Indian place before they took over

Yelp
You might luck out with one solid experience, or you might get the version where the owner treats you like garbage, serves you two-week-old fish,
and treats you like compost due to language barrier, having a lisp, and/or anxiety with that "You're welcome here when I don't have customers" SF segregation energy.
If it's not lunch hour, and you're solo adventuring, roll your dice. Good or bad, you gambled for basic decency.

Yelp
Delicious! Absolutely delicious! We orders the lamb curry and lamb biriyani as well as a garlic naan. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I can affirm that something is wrong with the guy working the counter who says he's the owner. I went in to place an order. He came out of the back and engaged me in the most bizarre conversation about his past - it was seriously disturbing and I left.
Not to mention, the inside of the place looks disgusting. I can only imagine the kitchen.
In case there's any question, stay away.

Yelp
Not only was the food (tandoori chicken leg and tikka masala) phenomenal, but Atiq was also exceptional! You know hospitality when you see it. Recommend this place ten times over!

Yelp
READ. Casually came here to do some work after hours as any Pre-Law/Med student in SF does before eating which I find to be a reward. Asked repetitively if it was alright in which owner even offered to give me a meal on the house for helping him with some legal work which only occurred because I was interrupted several times to do so. He then hit on me hoping I'd cater to his needs. Pre-med work is not for the weak. I had Hijab on owner presumed I was praying rakat when I was reading from my book of miracle affirmations to help me clear my anxiety as I was the only woman in a male filled environment and to steer clear of any and all distractions. When You don't cover yourself you assume it's you, you're covered from head to toe nails and you wonder if it's just who you are. He Interrupted me to help him with legal issues presuming I was in Law. I was evidently not in the speaking mode covered up, and busybody. Later called the next morning to thank him wasn't necessary IM aware and to ask a question in which he instead took as an opportunity to berate me for what he considered was praying at the time saying he was born Muslim to excuse his next lines of crass discriminations and disrespect saying I was lying about my profession when he in fact presumed but evidently very angry and verbally threatening and defaming me for simply reading a book not even a bible nor Quran. Meanwhile he was smiling and egging me on when I was reading to myself. From the owner presuming my religion and hitting on me all during one hw assignment! One! I should have reported him immediately. So weird being outside as a woman in SF! Lustful guilty monstrous people out here, there, everywhere. Protect yall selves for real very uncomfortable people in the ambiance of this chop and go thing. Only Allah knows what was next! Don't give into erratic disingenuous people. You can hit on a child assume their age & actions but they cannot build upon their self esteem when feeling weird vibes? Huhhhhh. Not to mention many people came inside and were assisted with my guidance because the owner ran off elsewhere and no workers were on the floor to help or build engagement. Please save me the stress.
