How ‘Superfood’ Kelp Can Improve the Environment and Build Community | Eater

"A small Tofino storefront and processing facility that hand-harvests and hand-processes kelp into products like dried bull kelp, kelp flakes, and kelp seasoning for locals, visitors, and chefs. The business also buys and distributes seafood caught by local Indigenous fishers—moving large volumes annually and connecting to about 20 fishers from five First Nations through a regional fisheries network—while prioritizing underused species such as rockfish to reduce pressure on salmon. The founder emphasizes kelp’s environmental benefits (carbon sequestration, shoreline protection) and nutritional value (high iodine content), teaches kelp-harvesting skills to other First Nations and youth, hosts visiting groups for training, and positions kelp as a potential economic driver for broader coastal communities through new markets and job creation." - Anna Haines

3 weeks ago James was super patient and informative when he assisted me with our crab bucket order over the phone. Items and quantity were selected, confirmed and paid for over the phone with James (2 large crabs, 2 lbs large spot prawns, 1 lbs scallops, 1/2 lbs mussels, 1/2 lbs clams and the base bucket which James confirmed included onions, corn, potatoes and sausages). However when we arrived at Naas today there was a huge confusion with our order. Zane was not able to find our order in their “order booklet”. After 5 minutes of frantically searching for my order Zane saw that my info and order was taped on the fridge. Zane did his best to quickly put together our bucket and we appreciate his efforts. But at the end of the day I was disappointed with the lack of organization as well as the missing scallops and sausages in our order. We still enjoyed the process of cooking our bucket but the experience with Naas was spoiled because we didn’t get what we ordered and paid for. Also Zane mentioned it was not possible to refund the money for the missing scallops and sausages. I didn’t want to make a fuss so I was co-operative and added a few more clams as a replacement. Unfortunate for the lack or communication and organization between staff members.

Local seafood market has their own Kelp flakes and seasonings. They have their own kelp farm, hand process their kelp to kelp flakes. Good for souvenir.

Freshest of the freshest spot prawns- straight off the boat and great price. Thank you to Stevie and Blake for making birthday spot prawns a reality for me!

Nothing better than fresh crab right from the dock, and having super helpful staff butcher the crab for you. Beyond fresh and affordable, we had the best dinner ever.

Very nice people, definitely worth a stop by. Seems like they often test new recipes for new flavor mixtures. We bought some smoked salmon .. very high quality, super delicious 🤤 thank you!

Amazing experience. Kevin made it super memorable for the kids and the crabs were spectacular. Even stayed later beyond regular hours to accommodate us and took us right down to the docks. Can’t recommend them enough.
