Get To Know Mezcal and Tequila at These Intimate Top Taco Pairing Dinners | Eater New Orleans

"One pairing that surfaced has Nacho Mama’s teaming with Hornitos to serve a chorizo breakfast taco — chorizo, potatoes, cilantro-lime crema, and cracklins — paired alongside a blackberry tequila bramble made with Hornitos, Triple Sec, blackberry puree, basil simple syrup, and jalapeño, garnished with Grand Marnier-soaked blackberries." - Nora McGunnigle

Google
definitely recommend. great portions, the zucchini quesadilla was the best quesadilla i’ve ever had! best food find so far in augusta. compliments to the progressive chefs, yall know how to cook

Brian K.

Google
First time in. Awesome staff. Very clean. Cool looking paintings for sale. Quick service. Even the grand kids loved it. Fabulous choice for dinner. Every thing was better than I expected.

Eric L.

Google
The food is ok and portions are huge. The issue I would have is that the portions are way to large, quality of the food is middle of the road, and the price is high for what your getting. These nachos were $19.49. You order at a counter and pick up your own food yet the checkout is auto set for a large tip included in your purchase. The large auto tip for no services alone would be the reason I will skip this option in the future. Overall they seem fairly quick and the staff were fine.

Christin Hunter (.

Google
Definitely has the hipster vibe which is cool. Nachos were 🔥 got their sunburn nachos, sweet and plenty of toppings. My man got a burrito and he was very satisfied. Only complaint is they have shredded beef not steak, but this is fine. Will definitely return.

Google
Really great Mexican food with a fun atmosphere, highly recommend if your in the area. Casual dinning

Google
Got the fish tacos on corn tortillas for a gluten-free meal on a Sunday afternoon. The staff are easygoing, the place was busy with folks playing pool upstairs or watching sports and drinking beers at the bar with friends. A few were working alone in booths. Chill vibe, light atmosphere, and the window tables are good for people watching. There's a reason this place is a local favorite.

Google
The Daddy Nachos were huge and super tasty especially with the pulled pork and fresh salsa. The Godfather burrito was also perfect. Surprise was how good the top shelf Margaritas were. Excellent quality overall.

Google
Food was delicious. Service was friendly and made you feel at home. Love this place!

Yelp
One of our favorite downtown spots, always great vibes and good music! There was a decent line when we came in for a weekend lunch but didn't take too long to get our food. There is decent seating all throughout with some upstairs as well, but not great if you're in a large group if it's during busy hours (might have to sit separately). I always want to sit in the window like a mannequin but those are usually filled with hungry guests :( The food here is top tier and always great quality leaving you feeling fat and happy, but just enough to give you energy to walk around and see all the things downtown has to offer.

Yelp
This was recommended to use at a quilt shop. It sounded amazing. It was okay. The food was good but I am okay if I never have it again. The service was hit or miss. One guy was rude and another lady was so nice. The ambiance was not my jam but I could see where other people would like it. I would not go out of my way to go here but wouldn't be sad if my friends wanted to meet here.

Yelp
This place was great!! Service was friendly, we got our food pretty quick and with a smile! A variety of uniquely named dishes that everyone can find something to eat. The restaurant was clean with ample seating. Highly recommend checking them out!

Yelp
It's been years since I visited this place. The food was as good if not better than I remembered! Very laid back and groovy type place! Service was prompt and food was HOT! I will def be returning in the near future. Chicken and shrimp quesadillas were on the order.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was great, portions were big and filling. The service was very quick and the cashier was super sweet. The building was nice and clean and the lighting was warm which made the atmosphere feel more cozy.

Yelp
I've never been to Augusta but I was in the area for a baby shower. If you're looking for a Mexican place that will give you A LOT of food for not too much money, this is a good spot to check out. I ordered the chicken and black bean tacos which came out practically overstuffed. I also wanted a classic margarita but the girl at the counter told me that the top shelf margarita had more liquor. It is also closer to a Texas-style margarita. I asked for a very salty rim and they delivered. The price difference in the 2 margaritas is negligible so no complaints there either. All in all, it's definitely spot worth checking out if you're passing through!

Valerie B.

Yelp
The food was Nacho Mama Mexican food. The food had very little flavor. The burrito was definitely missing something. The salad that we ordered was drenched in water. There was a pool of water in the bottom of the dish. Chicken was very dry. The Strawberry Margarita was basically colored water, and liquor. Seemingly Prepared by non-food food, professionals.

Taylor N.

Yelp
I ordered 2 tacos as you can tell on the receipt and I only got one. I will say that they were very quick. I did call in pick up and it was ready within 10 mins. Food was delicious other than missing my taco

Yelp
Gonna put my west coast credentials on the suspect list, go out on a limb and say this place puts me in the "I believe" bucket about Mexican food in the south. They compete with places in San Diego - and place well. Good nachos: Check. Fast service: Check. Good prices: Check. Cool interior: Check. Gonna have to say - it's a west coast contender, but in Georgia of all places. Definitely worth it.

Yelp
Bland food and pricey for what's mostly a restaurant where you serve yourself. Bought fountain drinks with our meal and still had to ask for cups. I liked the playlist, though.

Carolyn S.

Yelp
Their food and atmosphere is awesome! My favorite restaurant downtown Augusta! If you're coming for a laid back experience, and great food and service, come here!

Yelp
First, be careful not to over order. Nacho Mama's knows how to fill a plate. The Bomb burrito filled my 12 year old grandson. He didn't touch the rice & beans that came with it. My son, a big fellow, barely got halfway through his order "simple nachos". Heck, I couldn't finish my backyard salad. Although the guacamole & chips may have influenced my appetite. Nacho Mama's isn't a full scale Mexican/tex-mex restaurant. No fajitas. No chicken mole dinners, or carnitas or carne asada. But what they do serve, they do very well. Everything is freshly made. A decent selection of beer. And here's a first~a "Mexican" restaurant that serves pasta dishes. Like I said, not your typical Tex-mex restaurant. And that's not such a bad thing. And check out the prices. Nacho Mama's serves up a lot of bang for the buck.

Yelp
If you're old enough to remember the show "Cheers" then know this is the kind of place "where everybody knows your name." Yes they have the food (there's a reason the menu takes up an entire wall) and the drinks (including levels of margarita quality-splurge and get the "Top Shelf") and even a pool table (upstairs). But before you learn of or experience all of that, you first encounter the relaxed ambiance of this place. Local art line the walls, there's high tops in the two front windows, and the conversations are always buzzing. The front door warns you "we don't need no stinkin waiters", but the reason for that is the quickness of their service. If you order in, you'll barely put a dent in your queso and chips before they call your name. If you call in, you better be in the car and en route. When they 10-15 minutes, they are usually overestimating the prep time. Personally I am a fan of the Havana (red chili shrimp, black beans, etc.) and Bomb (chicken, jalapenos, etc.) burrito. And I still have yet to try the pasta dishes. One day though, one day. Stop in for lunch or supper soon and experience this downtown mainstay for yourself.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Atmosphere is a tribute to James Brown. It is an order at the counter, and they will call your name when your food is ready. Down stairs can get noisy, depending on the crowd. Upstairs has a pool table and more seating. Portions are large. We ordered the nachos and a taco salad. Two of us could not finish. I would not recommend this location if you want a quiet date night. It is a good spot if you are going to a show. If you want spicy, talk to the server. The basic salsa is really mild.
google avatar

Jordan N.

Yelp
Go big juan or go home! Perfect place to meet with friends, grab a beer & a bite to eat! The service is simple and efficient & the upstairs is the perfect place to hangout and eat! The food fits the environment perfectly!
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
Great customer service, amazing drinks, and very pleased with the food. Portion sizes were pretty large, came with lettuce, sour cream, salsa, and quac. They used a huge amt of cheese so just be prepared. Clean restaurant

Yelp
Sorry every other restaurant in downtown Augusta: Nacho Mamas has the best food, consistently. And service brimming with enthusiasm. And the best margaritas in the CSRA! I always, always have the Seizure Salad. Usually with grilled mahi. Hey that's not only delicious, it's Healthy!
google avatar

Andy V.

Yelp
Fun spot to go out with friends. Friendly staff, and good ambiance. They have a pretty large menu, take some time and read through it to find your likes and dislikes. Worth a try if in the area.

Yelp
Went here for national taco day, and I love this place!!!! They have huge portion sizes for price, and I am especially a fan of their nachos. I always get the Step Daddy nachos, which are made fresh, and the best part by far is the mango habanero salsa. I find that it is the right balance of sweet and salty Zac and definitely filling for price. My boyfriend got the quesadillas and tacos, and he loved them as well! The margarita was reasonably strong, and we had an all around great night. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Gentrified garbage. Among the worst "Mexican" dining experiences I've had, and I've eaten Mexican food in Hawaii, where you aren't sure if your burrito is stuffed with chicken or cat food. Pressed for time before an event and so we ducked in here for a quick bite. Had the pulled pork burrito (soggy and no flavor), rice (microwaved at best, do they own one can of seasoning?), and beans that were somehow worse than the stuff that comes out of a can. Anyone who eats here and claims it is remotely decent is obviously someone who has had their taste demolished by a lifetime of smoking or another unfortunate illness that has left them with impaired tastebuds.

Yelp
Great food, good portions, fast service. Great staff! My go to when nearby. Not a bad choice on the menu.
google avatar

Eppy S.

Yelp
The food was great and flavorful. The portions were delightfully more than expected. They took my order and called me to get it in about 10 minutes. They have a modern bar which serves a variety of beer and other drinks. The price was very reasonable and so I highly recommend this establishment.
google avatar

Wray B.

Yelp
Nacho Mama's came up in the "cheap eats" category. I hadn't eaten much all day, so this massive plate disappeared. And it was a nice price. Noisy, and a bit wild, but totally delicious.
google avatar

Wendy F.

Yelp
Had not been here in several years - not sure why thought! The food was so good! I had the mama salad it was huge with crispy romain lettuce, black beans, corn, and a huge mound of tasty guacamole. I added shredded beef. The meat was tender and delicious! The salsa is fresh with just the right amount of heat. The cheese dip was creamy and the portion of nachos was huge. Everyone was really friendly and seemed to enjoy their job. The place has a funky causal vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
What an absolutely amazing restaurant. The food was delicious. My daughter and I had chicken nachos (steppy daddy). My sister and her husband had burritos I forget the name but it was chicken and pork. Enough food to feed a small army . What a fantastic place to get dinner. So much to offer. Very happy to be there
google avatar

Brandi S.

Yelp
I really do not understand the high reviews. This is not Mexican food, no seasoning, no spices, awful bland rice and beans. I ordered a burrito and it was as if someone read about a burrito in a dictionary and had never had Mexican food. Yes, there was cheese, grilled chicken, lettuce and guacamole. No flavor anywhere. I only gave stars because the staff was kind and the food was fast.

Yelp
Located downtown we lucked out and found street parking Why are most restaurants here closed on Sunday?!?!... Dimly lit and looks small from outside but plenty of seating in back and upstairs Quick ordering at the counter Grab a drink at the fountain Then they yell your name Food was solid House hot sauce was great

Ansley J.

Yelp
Great price for large portions! Very quick service and I like sitting on the second level. The meat and veggies always taste fresh. One of my go-tos when I am in augusta
google avatar

Yelp
THE Downtown Augusta classic. Quick, affordable, and fulfilling. Nacho Mama's is run by good people who make tasty margaritas and always have a smile for you.
google avatar

Yelp
Located in the heart of downtown Augusta, this quaint little Mexican-American restaurant adds a variety of choices to downtown Augusta. On many occasions, I stick the tacos. I highly recommend the Mahi Mahi tacos or the Red Chili Shrimp Tacos. Today I was adventurous and tried an order of 45's Payback and Slow Ride. The lunchtime crowd can be a bit of a wait. I recommend calling in your order. The Payback and Slow Ride never disappoint. I recommend both dishes. The black beans were a bit salty, but the sour cream made up for it. What I love about the 45's dishes, such as the Payback and Slow Ride, is that there are no carbs on the dish. The habanero mango salsa is a plus to the 45's dish, just ask for it on the side because the tangy can distract from the flavorful protein choice. The staff is friendly and quick during the high volume lunchtime crowd.

Yelp
This place and it's menu is about as "Mexican" as a white collar family from the Midwest visiting Cancun and never leaving the all inclusive resort grounds Seating was ample inside and fairly busy for a Sunday night when most places were closed. Got the Havana burrito to go. would say this is place hardly "Mexican" and more "chipotle" but solid option that did not disappoint.
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying this place out and it's kids friendly environment. You walk up to place your order then find a place to sit. The ladies at the front counter were very friendly and accurate with our food. There is a variety selection to order from burritos, nachos, tacos, and even salad. They do serve acholic beverages too. I ordered a hardshell chicken & spinach and a chicken & beans tacos. I liked the chicken & beans tacos the flavor was good but next time with soft taco because the hard got messy. Unfortunately, the chicken & spinach was too salty. Step Dad's nachos were big to share, had enough beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and mango habanero sauce. Overall, my experience was good and the food was flavorful with their unique way of ingredients, not the best Mexican place but I guess I'm a little spoiled with Cali Mexican food. Lol

Yelp
Good food good staff.. I enjoy the window seats as well as the upper deck .. groovy spot

Yelp
This place has been here for years, although we just experienced it. Found several locals as well as tourists dining there. The vibe is casual and hip walk up to the counter and order. They also have a bar where you can watch them prepare food and dine at as well as enjoy a good beer, they have a nice cocktail menu selection. However plan to read the menu for a while as the selections are broad. I had the roasted potatoes added to my black bean jalapeño and caramelized onion tostada wish was delish. They have a habanero mango salsa that is on the spicy side but full of great flavor. My husband had a burrito and it was served with a rice and beans combo more reminiscent of Cuban food which was also very good. I wouldn't call this place Mexican food more of a Mexican fusion but definitely worth a visit when your in downtown Augusta GA.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Service was good. The food is worse than Chili's in my opinion. My nachos were Tostitos with Jack cheese melted on it with canned Tostitos mild salsa. My daughter's meal was bad as well. The beans were whole (charro) and tasteless, the rice was seriously Uncle Ben's packaged rice and it was also super bland. It's a restaurant of canned everything. The only fresh items were the shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes in a taco. We will not return.

Jeffrey H.

Yelp
For our first time ever eating here. My wife and I enjoyed it. You get more than expected. Service was fast. And Great!

Bethany S.

Yelp
We've been going here for years and they never disappoint. Friendly staff and quick service. I love getting their sunburn nachos, and the mango habanero salsa really brings it all together. You can't go wrong with the guacamole or the cheese dip. Best margaritas around!
google avatar

Nick B.

Yelp
This place is always a to go to place to get good food and friendly service! Staff is always cool and the food is fresh and hot! They have good beers and drinks as well. I like the no jacket required beer from the Savannah brewery. I always get the nachos but there other food is great as well.

Yelp
One of the easiest five star reviews I have ever given. A large group of us were in town for the 70.3 Ironman and we loved this place so much we came here twice in three days. I can't remember everything the group had, but I will try to. I had the potato quesadilla and the pasta dish with black beans. They were both amazing. Other people had a burrito, spinach quesadilla and that's all I can remember. You order at the window inside and they bring it to you, so you can seat wherever. I didn't catch anyone's name but our service was very good as well. Thanks Nacho Mama!!
google avatar

Viviana M.

Yelp
Heard great reviews but sadly it wasn't awesome. I ordered the daddy with beef and was disappointed. It was completely bland especially with the amount of toppings you wouldn't think it would be. Also they put a layer of tortilla chips at the bottom then the cheese then more chips beans beef and salsa. Why would you put the cheese all the at the bottom to melt with the paper? My husband got the godfather burrito and his was bland too he asked for salt. His came with mango habanero slasa and no heat no taste. The only good thing was the cheese dip and chips. The cheese was delicious and creamy. Also the ambiance was really nice and welcoming.

Alex N.

Yelp
Best crisp salads in Augusta. Best Pico de Gallo as well. Always consistent with their food and service. I am very picky about my Mexican restaurants I go to in Augusta. I have traveled through Mexico and Central America, so I have skin in the game. Tasty!!!!Quick
google avatar

Vanessa T.

Yelp
I came to Augusta for a business trip and stopped by this place to try it. The atmosphere and the ambience is very interesting but has a hipster vibe to it. I got a chicken quesadilla which was delicious. They filled it with so much chicken! The staff were friendly and quick to cook the food.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
So damn good!! They had a bunch of vegetarian options which I loved. I got black bean and spinach tacos which were so damn good!
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
It's hard not to stop in Nacho Mama's when you walk by and see an ugly couple sitting near the window playing tonsil hockey while their nachos are getting cold and beers getting warm. I mean, what else are you looking for in a restaurant? I was starving as I was out house hunting all day long without eating. I'm a sucker for anything taco related so I stopped in and as they say, the rest was American history class. It's an "order at the window and come get your food" type of place that still would like 30% tips. They don't have ground beef, but it doesn't get much more gringo than this food. Literally have pasta here as well as tacos, burritos and que-sa-dill-ahs. I was starving and thought that I was clever to order a bunch of food at once so I don't have to get back in line, but that back-fired on me as the meals are large. With a few beers and a side of guacamole plus my burritos and nachos, the total was over $60. Ouch. After finishing the Bomb (burrito) and picking at nachos, I wanted to die. There was way too much food and no way I was going to finish it. I stuffed my face, but it was due to the fact I was only getting this time to eat today as I had more house hunting and paperwork to do. The guacamole was decent, the nachos were good, the burritos were meh and the hot marinara they called salsa had less spice than Campbells chicken soup. I'd like to say this is Tex-Mex, but it's more like Dakota-Mex. They don't have carnitas, but they do have pulled pork.
google avatar

Devin T.

Yelp
Great place for a taco or burrito! Walk up service with plenty of room to sit. Has a full bar too.
google avatar

Chelsea K.

Yelp
Huge portion - you will walk out feeling super full here! This place is not an authentic mexican food, but their food tastes good, is cheap (under $10), and comes out fast! If you are hungry and are craving some mexican food, this place is in downtown augusta, so it will be a quick stop to get your food.
google avatar

Amber V.

Yelp
I was very interested for a very long time and finally went in. I was a little disappointed because I thought this would be an authentic Mexican restaurant but it wasn't. The Nacho selections are very nice I do wish they would add nacho cheese sauce not the white. It's a spacious restaurant and I'm sure this place has been here for sometime but it also has potential to be better with an authentic Mexican twist can be added if they know the right Mexican. Like adding AL Pastor as a meat selection or Birria. Overall, I had a great experience the nachos were dry though.
google avatar

Bridget M.

Yelp
Save your time and money by making better nachos at home. If you are at all familiar with Mexican or tex-mex food, do NOT go here. You will be disappointed. The chips are store bought. The "salsa" tastes like Rotel with jalapeños - from a can and not meant to serve as a salsa. The cheese seemed to be microwaved on the chips, not melty whatsoever. Black beans were canned. Jalapeños and olives were canned. The chicken was not of high quality either. The only fresh thing in this dish was the guacamole. Very upsetting to spend money on such low quality food. Their standards are truly on the floor.
google avatar

Shannon X.

Yelp
Came here in lieu of another restraunt with a long wait time as a finals celebration dinner. Portion size was great and pricing was not bad at all. Staff was super friendly and enjoyed the atmosphere a lot.
