The Best Restaurants in Coronado | Eater San Diego

"The traditional Italian restaurant features chef Giorgio Corletti’s family recipes incorporated with the kitchen experience he picked up in Michelin-starred restaurants in Rome. Pasta dishes, like gnocchi asiago truffle, have add-on options like burrata and crispy prosciutto. Cap off the meal with a Nado gelato from next door." - Helen I. Hwang

We have fallen in love with Nado Republic. Amazing food, lovely ownership and staff, they have welcomed us into their family. The authenticity of their Italian cuisine is second to none. When we’re not in Coronado we are talking about how we cannot wait to get back to enjoy another delicious meal and fun evening. A must for all.

Our meals at Nado Republic were so delicious that we thanked everyone as we were leaving. Every single dish was so fresh and flavorful. I wish that we lived in the area so that we could return frequently. The service was excellent as well!

A restaurant with incredible food is nothing without the staff that serves it. The staff here definitely makes this place one of the best and all of Southern California. David is an amazing bartender. He asked me about my preferences before making suggestions on what to order, both drink and food wise. He was on point. Everything was amazing! I'll definitely make a return visit. Already looking forward to it!

Google
Such a cute atmosphere and great service. I had the lobster ravioli which was delicious and the broccolini pizza was also amazing. Really stood out to me for the cocktails— the strawberry mule was the best drink I’ve ever had!

Michael DiDonato

Google
The restaurant is pretty cramped inside and out. The time we went there was no host so the staff was a bit disorganized. Our server did her best under the circumstances. The food was average at best. I had the veal which was tough with a side of brussel sprouts that were heavily salted. My wife had a pizza that was decent. Overall I would rate below average to average. If you want good or even average Italian, there are much better options.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with Nado! This has become my go-to spot to bring friends and family, and it never disappoints. The food is absolutely divine, the atmosphere is cozy yet stylish, and the service is always impeccable. Do yourself a favor and book a reservation—you won’t regret it! Thank you, Sandro and Georgio, for sharing your delicious and authentic Italian cuisine with San Diego. Your food warms not just our bellies but our hearts! Plus, the aesthetic of the place is just stunning. A true gem in Coronado!

Google
We loved the sourdough bread with the truffle butter it was so good! We got ravioli / spaghetti/ rigatoni and the pasta was delicious. Nice handmade pasta cooked perfectly. The sauces were light and not too heavy. Seasoned well. The restaurant is really cute as well. Our server is as soooo nice too.

Google
This is my favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego, better than any little Italy spot. I’ve been here a few times and everything I’ve tried has blown me away. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Me and my family dined here last night. Great atmosphere, the wall designs were very nice. The food was great, especially the pizzas we tried. The crust was good and it came with good amount of toppings. Highly recommend. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 star - we mentioned it was my sons B Day and know one acknowledged it. Nado thank you for the quick reply, I changed the 4 star to 5!

Yelp
We came in last Friday w/ 7 of us for a celebratory work dinner, and had an amazing evening. We had the chance to sample so many items between the 7 of, and countless bottles of amazing wine: the burrata w/ arugula and cherry tomatoes (amazing; got two of these - one of our favorite items, especially w/ an order of their bread w/ olive oil and/or truffle butter)the Brussel Sprouts, some specialty rice balls, the gnocchi, to which we added crispy prosciutto at our waiter Lisa's suggestion - unbelievable; the lobster ravioli (not as good as I hoped). The spaghetti cacio e pepe was incredible, and inspired us to make it at home - wow. This will be added to the short list of great recipes. Shared an order of Caesar salad (excellent), and two orders of the Branzino (filleted, so we didn't have to deal with the bones, which was convenient, but not the best I've had). We had many bottles of the Barolo which was incredible. Service by Lisa was professional, friendly and exceptional. I requested the bill, and we were closing out, when my partner ordered two more bottles of wine. We never wanted to leave, but alas, all good things must come to an end. And then they go to Danny's... We will be back!

Yelp
I love Nado Republic. I always take myself and baby on a date here, then get gelato after next door. It's a cute and cozy restaurant with lovely decor, tall ceilings and nice patio seating. Amazing service every time, and they always make room for my stroller even though the restaurant is small. The food is exceptional. The lobster ravioli is so good, bolognese is hearty, and gnocchi so pillowy soft stuffed with mouth-watering Asiago cheese & truffle. For appetizers , love the fried mashed potato balls, and strawberry salad so very refreshing. FYI it is pricey and no free bread or free water--only the best $3.5 acqua panna water.

Yelp
This is an interesting restaurant shoehorned between the parking lot and the other businesses. You will certainly be seated close to yet-to-be-made friends. Kudos to them for seating us - even though our online reservations became lost. As you can see from my pic of their table service for pepper flakes and salt, there is a bit of "airs" about them. You'll also see this in the dishes from my food pics. The service was okay on this busy holiday. We started with the Strawberry Salad. This was a great mix of flavors and textures, without the salad being overly bearing of strawberries. As you can see in my pic, we had the strawberry dressing on the side. By mixing, this semi-sweet dressing with astringent arugula lettuce, we blended a great compliment of flavors. The goat cheese was a super creamy compliment with the toasted almonds. And when this was eaten with the dressing and lettuce, this became a very good and unique salad. Our salad was followed by the Bosciaola Rigatoni, see my pic. Again, this was another very good dish. The rigatoni was cooked just right, and served with ample red cream sauce. The spices were bright and the sausage was savory and rich. There was the right amount of sausage to pasta, and sauce, such that each bite had ample flavor. The food was quite good, but the seating is very tight. The wine by-the-glass pricing was reasonable. They don't accept any payment methods that require a PIN, and they didn't voluntarily provide us a bill or receipt for our meal.

Yelp
From the moment we sat down, the entire experience was great. The food was very good and the drinks were also very tasty !! Service was good and they do some fun stuff for you if it's your birthday

Yelp
I would have given this place a 2-star but the experience just left me with the biggest ick. I chose this restaurant because it was dog-friendly and near the dog beach, it had a beautiful outdoor patio seating area, and the food looked amazing! What I was not expecting was "nice" passive aggressiveness from our waiter throughout the whole dining experience and how he/the restaurant was not honest. Read further for more info. Waiter took our drink orders and we asked for just water. Towards the end of our meal, he came back to ask if we wanted more water which we thought was nice. Turns out the water cost $7 and no where was it disclosed. We ordered 5 dishes for our party. For appetizer, we ordered tuna tartar, but were notified they ran out. Instead, the waiter tried to upsell us on plain house bread (which most places serve on the house anyways) but we didn't want that because we were going to be inhaling enough carbs. We ended up ordering a pizza to share and four pasta dishes: (2) Pappardelle Bolognese, Bucatini Amtriciana, Boscaiola Rigatoni. Waiter suggested adding a meatball add on in the Bucatini Amtriciana, which I ultimately said yes. It arrived with two meatballs and when the check was delivered at the end of the meal, he had inputted and charged for two ($5/meatball) which was not the quantity that was ordered! The food was not great either - pizza was a large flatbread and the crust was hard and stale (though the toppings were good with a kick). The pappardelle was overcooked and too soft. The biggest peeve was feeling deceived and how the waiter took advantage of our busy group.

Yelp
Me and my girls were in Coronado for a mommy and me trip while I was here for a conference. We like fancy Italian food served with IG worthy aesthetics and Yelp reviews pointed to Nado. The servers, hostess, food runners are all friendly and knowledgeable and making a rezzy thru OpenTable is much appreciated so we had no wait to be seated. The dishes posted here are all drool worthy esp the pink cream rigatoni and brussels. The meatball was kind of flavorless which was surprising. The pizza has a thin crispy crackerlike crust which I loved. Pros: the covered patio and inside bar area are BEAUTIFUL and photo worthy. Staff is friendly. Pasta and Brussels are so good! Cons: you MUST pay for water as they do not serve tap water. So you need to buy bottled water which is not served cold nor with ice so you need up ask for ice. (?!) And if you order bread (which is not free) and you want a topping other than oil and vinegar, you need to buy butter! It is because of these 2 upcharges that they only get a 4 star from us.

Julie H.

Yelp
The worst food I've ever eaten in all of Coronado. The Veal Saltimbocca was unrecognizable. The Tuna Tartare was fishy and I was there on a Saturday night. Yuck!
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
Very cute by the beach atmosphere. The service was nice. The restaurant had a nice upscale touch with indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered calamari, bread ($5 not complimentary), and a Cesar salad (has anchovies) as starters. The rigatoni was our favorite. The had crushed peppers and parm upon request.

Yelp
We have been saying we wanted to give this place a try for a while and tonite we did. SO HAPPY WE DID! I booked an early dinner for my birthday. It was so charming and our waiter was fantastic. He gave us recommendations, was so friendly and patient with my boys. The food was so delicious. We started with calamari. Tender, fresh and the sauce severed with it was yummy. My sons chose pasta.. lobster ravioli and spaghetti and meatballs. They devoured them! My husband and I had the gnocchi and margarita pizza. The gnocchi was soooo light and tender. The sauce was unreal. We had tiramisu and cannoli for dessert. Both were great. We cannot wait to go back! Great end to a very good birthday! Thank you Nado!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Everything was perfect. The food the ambiance, cocktails and the server was ready on the eyes. ;) I will definitely go again!

Yelp
Nado really helped us celebrate my sisters graduation. The servers were attentive and the set up was beautiful. We had a difficult time finding the walkway into this very crowded restaurant. the walkways and table space seemingly overlap, making maneuvering quite difficult especially with a wheelchair. the food was good, and i was able to leave with leftovers. we ordered a few table items and each had a different pasta, pizza, or salad. a vegan member of our table requested no cheese in her salad, a need that was not met unfortunately. the desserts we tried (tiramisu and ice cream) was my favorite part of the meal, aside from my martini. the decor tried to be very aesthetic.

Yelp
Amazing venue or ambiance to held special occasions. Delicious food and wines. The service so good with a nice bar tender
google avatar

Joanne L.

Yelp
Nice place on Coronado island. The pasta sauce were really good. I forgot our server name. She was super friendly. The portion were pretty big. The salad could use a little more dressing. The calamari did not have a whole lot of flavor.
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
Molto bene! Hip restaurant with authentic Italian. Great sauce, freshly made noodles, great service! We made this our final meal on a Coronado vacation and it was amazing! The pasta chef is from Rome!
google avatar

Sanjay S.

Yelp
My family go to for any special occasions- food is simply amazing- my favs are the Brussel sprouts made with a nice crunchy lemony flavor and the gnocchi - service is awesome - Sandro the owner is always moving around talking to guests for that warm welcome - the restaurant is always busy yet you feel the server is readily available - hands down the best Italian restaurant in San Diego!!
google avatar

Rhonda M.

Yelp
The food is delicious, plated beautifully, tastes fresh and hot. Beautifully crafted cocktails as well. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff. Ambiance is one of the most unique and fun in all of Coronado! Sandro makes you feel like family. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Allynne V.

Yelp
We came back here after a month and the food wasn't as good as the first time, especially the gnocchi. This time it was dry and doughy. And we ordered the ravioli which was okay. The burrata was really good. Service was friendly.
google avatar

Betsey G.

Yelp
Tables cramped and close together. Can't get filtered tap water / you have to pay for bottled water. They offered bread - and that was additional charge too. Order was wrong - and they tried to charge us for the added prosciutto that we didn't order. Pasta just ok. They do offer a military discount - and although dogs are welcome on the patio is is so cramped I don't recommend bringing pups.

Yelp
Lisa was very kind & attentive! Came here for date night with my boyfriend and we will definitely be returning!
google avatar

Yelp
We walked over from Coronado to have dinner. Very cute place and quaint. The food was excellent! One of the best bolognese I've had in a long time, and they let me switch out the pasta to spaghetti. The service was on point
google avatar

Rakhi B.

Yelp
Ambiance - love the decor and plenty of outside seating. Inside is small. Not friend for wheelchairs or strollers..hard to move around. Service - good..food took some time. Food- amazing..they gave bread and oil and vinegar. We got Margherita pizza which was good and loved the flavor. A little burnt on bottom though. The.pasta was amazing so fresh.. I got pasta with pesto and tasted so authentic. It was alot of food.

Yelp
What an incredible to me we had at Nado Republic. Food and atmosphere were so lovely Our server was very helpful and attentive too. We ended up stopping next-door where they make homemade gelato and then quickly realize there are the owners of gelato 101 in Encinitas too.
google avatar

Noelle Kristine S.

Yelp
Amazing food in service! Genuinely enjoyed our time dining in at Nado :) went with recommendations from the chefs and rest of staff, and was happy with everything!!

Josh G.

Yelp
We visited Nado Republic and were delighted with our experience! The atmosphere, the character, the wait staff, everything was great! They recommended their lasagna and we could not have been more pleased! Great food, great restaurant, great choice!

Claude A.

Yelp
We have been there twice in a week's time as first time visitors to Coronado for the winter. The owner chef, Giorgio, from Rome and the bartender, David who greeted us on our first night there were very welcoming in a genuine way. The Roman style food is fantastic; the place is quirky and very comfortable to hang out in with music that seems oddly out of place, but it works! It's a wonderful place for an authentic Roman style, Italian meal made by folks who are obviously passionate about what they do and who work very hard to please their customers. Highly recommended.
google avatar

April L.

Yelp
I cannot rant and rave about Nado Republic enough. This place is on point with everything... the food.. the service.. and the ambiance. The owner Sandro as well as Giorgio & Arlo, they go above and beyond for everyone that walks through the door. The servers all are very knowledgeable in both food and beverage and will never steer you wrong. The bartenders are also very knowledgeable in their own ways and will concoct anything to your liking (within reason) but, their craft cocktails are to drool over. I frequent Nado often and I'm never disappointed. Any time I am asked where the place to go in Coronado is, this is my go to.

Yelp
compliments to the chef, our meal was delish. we ordered so much: + gorgonzola salad - not memorable but tasty + bread with truffle butter - yum!! + rosé - sparkling, very nice + lemonade - standard, decent + branzino special - the waiter asked if I wanted the head and my mind went somewhere else... seriously speaking tho, do get with so you can eat the cheek meat. I love a good branzino & this one was up to par; tender and buttery with a fabulous rich risotto. + rigatoni boscaiola - can you go to a Roman restaurant without ordering this? so hearty and homey + ravioli lobster - succulent & saucy. get + gnocchi asiago truffle with crispy prosciutto - more cream than cheese; the truffle flavor was almost too subtle to notice. not bad but would pick another pasta for flavor. food & service were definitely great; the ambiance was very millennial, for lack of a better word. in my book, a solid feast. life-changing? no, but not every dinner needs to be. it was lovely & I'm grateful for the grub

Yelp
We went to this restaurant and I had the lasagna and My Husband had the raviolis. The food was good and the service was very good as well. Atmosphere is quaint and cute. However, I do think they need to improve their Apperal spritz. I think they need to have a better balance as it tasted weak.

Yelp
Visited on a Friday evening with no reservations. We we were immediately seated inside. Server came almost instantly. They had a great selection of wines and cocktails.  We ordered the pizza with spicy salami, the caesar salad and the delicious meatballs.. everything to share and it was super delicious.  The overall vibe is a bit "tacky" / random with lots of lights, and decorations, and pics of Marilyn Monroe and Einstein on the wall. It's a bit all over the place.  Nonetheless...Grazie Nado per la cena delicioza nel  momento Perfetto.

Yelp
Outstanding Italian in Coronado. The pizza, gnocchi, and strawberry salad were top notch. Next door is their gelato shop. Easy family dinner on a Saturday. Small parking area between restaurant and gelato shop. Parking also on the street.

Yelp
We came for lunch on a regular weekday in mid April, not a busy time in Coronado. Our server was very friendly & knowledgeable. We had appetizers, salad and pasta. All delicious and served quickly and kindly. I don't eat much pasta but I really liked this pasta. Happy to have a good pasta option in Coronado I can walk to.

Mark A.

Yelp
Wow! This place is the best in Coronado. The food is 10/10. Service is amazing. And ambiance is out of this world. Love this place!
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
The ambience was beautiful. The table was beautifully done, and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was excellent as well. We will definitely be going back the next time we are in Coronado .
google avatar

Yelp
This place gets a 2 because they had real butter for the weird bread. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Noodles were toothy and meatballs were over worked. I thought I was getting marinara sauce....but it had some strange meat in it reminiscent of old pork socks from the shed..not very good. My daughter had a bad experience here as well...I should have listened to her. I will not be back and the Alka seltzer hopefully will help. Place was empty and parking was difficult on a slow off season Tuesday night.

Gwen H.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 10 stars! The food, the service, and the overall vibe of this place exceeded our expectations. We were just in town for one night for a birthday and chose to have dinner here. Safe to say it was the best decision!! Amazing food & and a special birthday celebration from the staff. Thank you guys so much for making it so special. We will definitely be back!!

Rati K.

Yelp
The pastas were really good. Fresh and authentic in flavor. Good place for people with dogs. The service was really great.

Yelp
Simply delightful! We dined outside and our server, Daniel, was friendly attentive and had great recommendations. Dining Al fresco was amazing. The weather was divine and the scenery incomparable. Nado Republic is located in a groovy, bustling spot near Hotel del Coronado. For food we all settled on pasta dishes that didn't disappoint. The drinks are robust, big and hit the spot.

Yelp
First time here for a surprise engagement party! Such a cute little spot. It is quite small however and there is only one bathroom which makes it challenging so that would probably be my only negative comment. The food however, is delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed the rigatoni! Probably the best I've had here in San Diego. I also really enjoyed the basket of bread they serve before the meal as well as the pizza! Everything seemed very authentic and the staff was very accommodating as well. Will definitely come back to try other dishes
google avatar

Tina H.

Yelp
Perfection!!! Our server, Daniel, was fantastic! Chef delivered our meals! This place is legit - authentic Italian! Pizza is by far best in the area! My husband had spaghetti with shrimp that was clearly made from scratch - pasta and all! I had pumpkin ravioli that was seriously heavenly! Our cocktails were on-point as well! Great place to bring even the pickiest of diners! Highly recommend without hesitation! Very fun place to celebrate a special occasion as well!
google avatar

Shelby H.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The food is seriously great, and the vibe is super fun. It's the perfect spot for a date night or just hanging out with friends. Service was great. Coronado is so beautiful. Grabbing dinner here before walking around just makes the whole night even better.

Jmarc P.

Yelp
Delicious! Really enjoyed the food and service here. Gorgonzola salad, rustic bread, pasta with crispy prosciutto, and the special holiday lasagna with pumpkin cream, bechamel, and sausage. All excellent! Paired with an excellent glass of inexpensive Negroamaro Puglia wine. This was our Thanksgiving dinner and we loved it and great service too. Make sure you understand that you are pay for the bottled water too...that part is a little pushy.

Yelp
I have been going to NADO for a while now. Took my gf there on our first date, birthdays & special occasions! Every time we have been treated like family & fed like one too! My now Fiancé & I had the opportunity to celebrate our proposal dinner at Nado. They accommodated our larger party, but that's not where it ends. The magnificent service & attitude from the staff made me feel at home/treated like family. You don't find that service a lot here in SD, but you will find that at NADO. Big shout out to the owners, the amazing staff, bartenders & the way they went beyond for my & my family to making the night special. From the appetizers to entrees to drinks & desserts were absolutely delicious. You can tell it's all fresh, made in restaurant & authentic good Italian food. Not to mention the drinks/cocktails were great too! If you want amazing Italian food, have a great time & be treated like family, NADO is a must! Don't believe me? See the pictures! All of the extra music, fun decorations, experience came from the NADO team! Appreciate for making my special night one to remember!

Rebecca K.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and ambiance. Will definitely go back on our next trip to Coronado.

Yelp
Late lunch while visiting Coronado Island. Had a lovely server. Surprised it wasn't busier but I think people are missing out on this hidden gem because it is one block in from Orange Ave. Too bad because they don't know what they are missing out. We had fried calamari, a picante pizza and a plate of spaghetti & meatball. Also had a bread bowl (didn't realize they charged for bread- back East it's always included). I would get it again because the bread was delicious but it would be helpful to know we are getting charged for it. Bread is served with some good quality olive oil, balsamic vinegar, grated parmesean cheese and an Italian hot chili oil. Everything we ate was really tasty. We'd come back here again.

Yelp
Came here with family last Saturday night and had a great time, staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Food was fresh and had a good seasoning to it! Great vibes loved it! Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Nado house, your hostess staff needs work. Reservation check in is horrible. Especially when there are literally open tables. Eventually, when we didn't get seated we left. UPDATE. We checked in for a 6:45 pm reservation at 6:38 pm. The hostess seemed very flustered and just clicking buttons on her tablet. She then told us she is not sure when she can seat us as multiple people are awaiting. I informed her we do have plans to be at a show at 7:45 pm. She said she would take that into account. It later became evident that multiple reservations were waiting to be seated. What was ironic, is multiple tables looked ready to seat people. At 7 pm when the "waiting for a table" seemed even worse. Eventually we just left to because the hostess was no longer at the stand and no one seemed to care. Now I am finding out they marked us as a no show on open table and I have to dispute that. Frankly, we have eaten here before, the food was good. But after last night, there is a serious entrance to the restaurant problem. And I am mot sure why a restaurant manager didn't notice a massive crowd at the entrance and multiple open tables and send help.

Yelp
The food, service and the ambience was GREAT!!! It's the best spot to celebrate a birthday.

Yelp
Epitome of what fine dinning should be splendid food and all around amazing vibes would not go anywhere else for Italian food!
