The 10 Best Indian Restaurants In Philadelphia

"Nafi Food Express is a halal food truck in West Philly that serves grilled lamb, veggie biryani, and smashed eggplant, all for under $8. Their light and peppery chicken salad is most certainly an upgrade to whatever you meal-prepped for the week. Plus, it’s a food truck, so you can show up in sweats and be back on the couch with some fluffy naan in under an hour. " - candis mclean

The Best Meals In Philly For Under $15

"The Meal: Lamb Over Rice, $8.99  If anybody needs a budget meal, it’s students who have sad, shi*ty Top Ramen in a steady rotation. Everything at this University City Indian food truck is better than microwaveable noodles, and it’s all under $10. When we’re here, we go for the lamb over rice. The meat is cubed and is supremely juicy thanks to the curry sauce it’s in. And if you spent the last of your cash on an ancient copy of The Principles of Economics, you can pay with almost any payment app. " - candis mclean

Google
Bland! I should’ve known by the price. I’ve never had flavorless butter chicken or chicken tiki masala before.

Google
So far, I’ve tried chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chicken over rice, and fish over rice. All of these were so delicious!! I believe that this is the best food truck in Philly. I love it!!

Google
Not Indian food, but could be a distant cousin. Got the Lamb Biryani, it was extremely oily and had no real flavor. Also, meat tasted funny.

Google
I visited this food truck because of the raving reviews. I got the chicken tikka masala. VERY bland, no flavor, no spices, I asked for it to be spicy no spice to be found. Only gave 2 stars because chicken was cooked nicely just bland and the garlic naan was also good. I do believe in having bad days but I wouldn’t personally go again.

I tried Nafi's over a year ago but I can't believe I forgot to leave a review. The food options are so much more unique compared to the other halal carts near 33rd & market. Chicken biryani and butter chicken are great. The owner is also a very nice guy.

Google
This Indian food cart is everything! If you love Indian food this is the best place to get it! Love it it’s just so fresh, tastes amazing and they make it according to your spice level. I love spicy food and he made it just perfect! I would recommend this place all time and everytime for quick Indian food!

Google
Mohammed the owner is the nicest guy. Always make it a point to stop for his food whenever I'm in the area. The falafel is awesome and so is the chicken and lamb. I really haven't had a bad dish. He went out of his way to make a fresh batch of rice for us. He accepts all payment forms and even venmo. You can even call ahead and he'll have it ready for you. Great food truck and an even better owners

Google
Great food, great prices, great quality. This is very fine Indian cuisine made with high quality ingredients and spices. I’m mostly impressed at how fast the guy cooks, so if you are on your lunch break like I am, it’s great. You can also call ahead and it’s ready when you walk up. Very convenient that they also take credit/debit cards and CashApp and Venmo. I’m a fiend for spice, so I appreciate that the guy doesn’t hold back on the spices for me. Honestly, some of the best Indian food I’ve had since I was in Tamil Nadu.

Yelp
Food: 3/5, Value: 4/5, Service: 3/5 Stopped by this food truck for lunch during a work day. Can get pretty busy so you have to wait quite a bit for food (15ish minutes) which is slow for a food truck. The portion sizes are great for the price (all menu items are $9). The korma did not taste much like korma and the chicken was a little dry. I got their pav bhaji special another day and similarly did not taste much like trafiidonal pav bhaji. Overall great for a large protein, cheap lunch, but not very authentic Indian food.

Yelp
I had biryani. Chicken and lamb. Extra spicy. My nose was running from the spice and that was what I wanted. Lol. This was good. I actually called my order in and picked it up. Everything is made to order.

Yelp
Both dishes were delicious . Saag paneer was a nice kick of spice and the biryani was flavorful. Will definitely order again.

Yelp
This truck always satisfies my craving of chicken biryani and always makes it spicy to my preferred taste! Would highly recommend to anyone to check it when you're raving some Indian food and need to stop by a food truck

Hannibal S.

Yelp
The rice have no taste, no juice arrived with the order, chicken is so dry, bread is so dry, not recommended at all !!!

Yelp
They're a bit slow at this truck, so if you're in a hurry, I would probably go to another halal truck. They sell mostly the same thing anyway, unless you're coming to Nafi to get some Indian food. I was a bit disappointed in my Chicken Tikka Masala, which is only kind of Indian anyway, but the flavors were closer to a Chicken and Rice platter than anything else, just minus the white sauce. It wasn't the creamy sauce you normally find at an Indian buffet or wherever you usually get your Westernized Indian cuisine from. For the price it was decent, it just wasn't really what I was expecting, and for the amount of time I waited, I might have been better off with a lamb gyro over rice platter. Maybe they were having an off day, but I probably won't be back.

Yelp
Tried the paneer and spicy chicken biryani. Both delicious and the owner is a delight as well!

Yelp
Some of the best Indian food I've ever had anywhere, and definitely the best food I've ever gotten from a food cart. The biryani is especially good, and when I order it extra spicy it actually is! The chicken korma and tikka masala are also very good, and for $7 it's a better deal than you'll find anywhere else.

Yelp
Great Chicken Tikka Masala! Quick, inexpensive meal that is tasty(ask for spicy) Halal chicken & lamb)Numerous Vegetarian selections that I have yet to try. $3 gyros are available. The felafel was a let- down, but the chix one was very good. Similar spices and thigh meat as the CTM. The sauces are good, but the side of iceberg is not. Owner is nice and friendly. He puts out a great product for a reasonable price. Truck is named after his son. Located SW corner of 34th & Market near entrance of Septa MFL

Yelp
best Indian food vendor in university city i enjoy buying from nafi food vendor

Victoria D.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat!! Not only is the food always fresh and hot (and halal which is a double plus) the owner is very friendly and professional and I eat here almost every weekday. To me, it's hard to trust the cleanliness of places to eat but I encourage you to try Nafi Food Express, for not only the food but the presentation. Rest assured, you will not be disappointed

Stephon P.

Yelp
I come here once a week and the food is always deliver fast and delicious. They offer payment via Venmo, which is a game changer for the professional on the go who doesn't always carry cash. The owner knows his regulars by name and is always kind and respectful.
