The 38 Best Restaurants in Mumbai, India | Eater

"Mumbai has always lacked restaurants serving food from the northeastern state of Nagaland, home to several Indigenous tribes, famous for foraging for ingredients, smoking meats, and fermenting items to increase their shelf life. At Naga Belly, tribal cooking takes the front seat. The restaurant serves both traditional Naga staples and other dishes with Naga twists. Start with chicken wings cooked with axone (fermented soy bean paste) and gahlo (rice porridge with wild herbs). Once your stomach is decently warmed up, go for pork bhujia (pork first boiled and then fried to a crisp), smoked pork with anishi (taro leaves), and black rice. Clarify your spice tolerance before ordering, and make sure you call to reserve a table in the small space." - Sumedh Natu

A cute little gem tucked away in bustling 4 Bungalows in Andheri. It serves up fresh, flavorful Naga cuisine. The space is small (seats about 10-12 people), so come prepared for a cozy experience and a bit of a wait—everything is made fresh, and it’s worth it. What we tried: Fermented Rice Drink – Fresh, earthy, and gives a nice buzz. Chicken Momos – Simple, fresh, and delicious. Smoked Pork Momos – Our favorite! Smoky, juicy, and packed with flavor. Axone Pork – A must-try for those who enjoy strong, pungent flavors. Perfect with sticky or purple rice. Naga Chicken Curry – A comforting, mildly spiced curry that pairs well with rice. Seasonal Plum Drink – Light, refreshing, and a great palate cleanser. Price for 4: ₹2,900 It’s a little on the pricier side but the quality and authenticity make it worthwhile. Friendly staff, bold flavors and a truly unique culinary experience. Will definitely return to try more!

We called and made a reservation and they had our table ready for us. It’s a small space, the indoor AC section has only 4 tables with benches seating 2 people each. Two tables outside. Quite cramped. There is no valet parking and it’s a main road below the metro so no street parking as well. Luckily, we searched & found a BMC parking some 200 metres away (on our own). When we called the restaurant inquiring about parking, they should’ve suggested this. Also, there’s no washroom. Food was definitely unique and interesting - We mostly went with the servers reco and the house favourites - 1. Naga Pork Bhujiya - French fries but pork with (too) spicy chutney, so be careful 5/5 2. Axone with smoked pork - bold flavours 5/5 3. Purple rice - cross between regular rice and sticky rice. Above average portion 5/5 4. Rice fermented drink 5/5 5. mulberry fruit drink 5/5 To summarise, we were delighted with our experience as we tried a new cuisine. We paid 1800 for 2.

Amazing place!! The only authentic Naga food place in mumbai. The staff are very friendly and even got us seats though there was a birthday party going on. Tried their amazing native fermented drinks, which were amazing. We ate too much of pork though, the appetiser and main course, which we overkill of fat. So ask them in advance if it’s too fatty or oily, because not many people are used it that. But very happy with the place

Highly recommend this place! The Crispy Pork Belly was outstanding - juicy, tender, and crispy. All the dishes we tried were delicious and worth ordering. However, there are a couple of areas for improvement. The restaurant is quite small, and the ordering process could be streamlined. It would be helpful if the staff took written orders to avoid misunderstandings. We had to repeat our order multiple times, and some items were still missing. Implementing this simple step would save time and enhance the overall dining experience."

Pork bhujia was great in taste as well as in quantity. Pork momos was good, 6 big momos in a plate, but it's nothing different in taste compared to chicken momos anywhere else. Service is great Lighting was warm, but should be a bit more bright Only 5-6 tables with 2-4 seating, so always prebook a table. Will visit again for sure for pork ribs😋

This place serves one of the best pork dishes in Mumbai. They have a little constraint in terms of space and also price is on the higher side. But they really serve authentic naga cuisine. Also if you are lucky you can try the rice beer even though it’s not exactly of the same taste as of authentic Assam or Nagaland rice beer.

We had pork curry with bamboo shoot for the first time, trying Naga cuisine, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavours were unique and rich, and the service at the restaurant was excellent. The people from the Northeast were incredibly warm, polite, and welcoming, and I was especially impressed by how clean and well-maintained everything was. Overall, it was a wonderful and memorable experience.

Just ate at this restaurant. Very good place, great food. The pork curry in Naga style was excellent with the purple rice. The waiter recommended to take sticks rice, it would have been better. But wanted to try purple rice. Thank you Naga Belly.
