Love this place. Best Sushi. We come here often. The owner is a top sushi chef. Often crowded at lunch, but go early or late or for dinner. It is a small intimate place. Worth a drive or a wait. I especially like the seared tuna sashimi and any of the rolls. Freshest fish!

Google
I come with friends atleast once a week when I am in town ...it is the best, freshest sushi on the westside and we love the spicy tuna cut roll and the spider roll as well as nagaos special vegetable salad... I do not want Nagao to leave! But, he deserves to take a break and enjoy his life.... thank you Nagao for all the wonderful yummy sushi, my grandson who is almost six was looking forward to it, but not ready yet...sad....

Google
Haven't been in the area in years...it was a must stop on our way to the airport...food was incredible as always. The sushi chef, Shige, was great and attentive , as was the waitresses. Unfortunately, I did not get to see my old friend Nagao... but now I need to get out there again!!!

Google

Google
This is the best sushi in LA. A quiet little restaurant bordering Brentwood and Santa Monica. Nagao (owner/sushi master) is there every night grinding away, telling great stories, and of course making fantastic sushi. Sashimi is top tier. Fish quality 5/5. Owner/Management 5/5.

Google
1/1/2016: This place was recently set as permanently closed by Google, but I'll tell you it's not. I just ate lunch there yesterday and go there at least once a week. It's my favorite Sushi. Absolutely love the Tempura #2, moonlight rolls and lemon box, then again, I haven't had anything I didn't like at Nagao's.

Google
Best Sushi place in LA !!! been going here since forever. I tell everyone I take once you've had Nagao's all other sushi places tastes like Costco's sushi ;) My favorites: Spanish Mackerel, spicy toro roll, tuna box, baked scallops(appetizer), halibut sashimi with crab, and don't forget to ask for Pompano, he will love you for it ;)

I was turned on to this place yesterday by some friends. This was THE best sushi and sashimi I have ever had. The octopus salad was great too!

Yelp
As someone who enjoys high-end cuisine, including high-end and Michelin star restaurants, I decided to give Kiitsu a try based off the location as I have passed it in the past and it's in a very nice location with a lot of foot traffic, especially on the weekends, I assumed it would be good and my oh my was I right! The food is absolutely superb! this place very obviously values quality over everything else, the fish was so smooth, buttery, and fresh. The crispy rice and spicy tuna was the best I've ever had. If you like high end/fresh sushi you have absolutely got to try this place. The owner was there behind the counter, making some of the delicious food, and you can tell that this place has consistency as there were multiple other patrons who were all regulars and were chatting with the owners/Sushi chef like they were old friends. The waitress, Leah, was absolutely amazing and provided us with excellent recommendations while giving extremely attentive and prompt service. All in all this was a 10 out of 10 experience. Will be back.

Dan A.

Yelp
The staff was great. Good neighborhood sushi. A little pricey. The decor was beautiful and the lighting and ambiance were nice.

Angela L.

Yelp
Giving this place ****** six stars! Love this private and sleek restaurant that has the best and freshest sushi. This place is a hidden gem as I have driven by it but never went it and I am so glad I did! Lovely staff, owner and sushi chef the food presentation is beautiful and the sushi is delicious. Highly recommend! Angela

Johanna S.

Yelp
This is a wonderful little restaurant in Brentwood. The food is great, fresh, and served with care. The staff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a great sushi.

Diana C.

Yelp
I had a great meal here today. We ordered the crispy rice, MOONLIGHT ROLL , and lemon albacore roll. Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh. We especially appreciated the service from Leah our waitress who was so friendly and kind. Highly recommend this place

Jess A.

Yelp
Delicious neighborhood sushi spot with a great happy hour (try the hand rolls and sake). Have been multiple times and highly recommend.

Jeremie H.

Yelp
Incredible local spot. Honestly some of the best ingredients you will find- from the rice to the fish, to the seaweed. Clearly every detail and texture ingredient has been carefully chosen and they clearly take pride in the quality and presentation. This is a hidden gem

Courtni S.

Yelp
Came to Kiitsu with my mom and brother for a light lunch. It was AMAZING. Our server was awesome and the crispy rice was our favorite. The beers and sake were served ice cold and everything was fresh!

Andrew C.

Yelp
We are always interested in trying new sushi spots and I stumbled across this place in my research so decided to give it a try. The setting is really nice and we sat at the sushi bar for the best experience. It's always fun to watch the chefs at work. The menu looked great and we jumped right in. My gorgeous date loved the Sea Breem nigiri (so much so that she ordered a second round). I really liked the albacore nigiri. Then we moved on to some rolls. The Lemon Albacore roll was really great, and there were a few others we tried that were very good as well. The only miss was the $28 Tempura. Much too expensive and it didn't match the quality of the rest of the menu. Overall it was good, but our standard is Katsu-Ya (the hyphen is important) and it's at least 30% less expensive, and the quality is good if not better. The service was very good. $4 parking downstairs in the garage.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Another hidden gem in the West LA area! We had a little bit of everything and it was amazing! We were seated quickly and didn't have to wait long for our food, even with them being busy on a Saturday night during dinner time. The staff was polite and made sure we were good the whole time. This is definitely a good place to come to if you're looking for some good sushi!! We can't wait to go back!!

William S.

Yelp
This place has super cute booths! The server was super knowledgeable about the sakes and I was surprised to find a wide variety of Japanese beers to choose from. Considering that I had just stumbled in after a random sushi craving, I was shocked to find that Kiitsu has some of the freshest fish I've ever had in Los Angeles. After looking this place up, I was surprised to see 4 dollar signs on yelp since the price of the fish and sake is definitively nothing out of the ordinary for sushi in California, and the specialty rolls and sashimi starters DEFINITELY fit the bill (try the lemon albacore!) The maki rolls and some appetizers were a little pricey but that is to be expected in the Brentwood area. Ultimately, I will be coming back!

Ronie L.

Yelp
We are looking for a restaurant along Brentwood area and we found kiitsu japanese restaurant, we had a dinner with ny friend and it was really good. The food is fresh and delicious! The service is phenomenal! Friendly staffs specially our server arnold he always make sure that we are ok and keep our table clean. Now i have my new favorite japanese restaurant ! I will comeback soon and bring my friends and family ! I really love the food and the service!

Marjan N.

Yelp
The aroma of rice and soy wraps all your senses like a warm hug immediately when you walk into Kiitsu. On the first page of the menu it has written: "Kitsu means everything begins at one and ends at one". We translate that same motto into all of our dishes. Being able to create approachable items we're all familiar with, in Japanese cuisine and transform them into something delicious without compromising each ingredient. Keeping the old washoku way and technique of every item presented here at Kitsu." Immediately, it is very easy to be impressed with this meaningful description, zen inspried ambiance, and delicious aromas. The quality of fish, cut, and ingredients further support the well deserved stars. I'm not certain if they were short handed, but service could have been more attentive although servers were friendly and polite. The cod was delicate and flaky; the truffle salmon was spectacular, and the lemon albacore roll was satisfying and perfection.

Tay L.

Yelp
Kiitsu in Brentwood is a true gem! The sushi is incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Don't miss their signature crispy rice dish- it's a delight! Hands down, my fav sushi spot in town.

Kimberly H.

Yelp
Just had a delicious meal at Kiitsu. Loved the crispy rice and tuna. Rolls were great! Best of all was the warm and friendly service. We felt so welcome! A real pleasure.

Malek Z.

Yelp
Just wrapped up dinner here with a friend ... the chef tonight was the jam. All of the food was amazing & I'll definitely be returning. Can't wait for another round.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Not good. Bland, boring, and almost...yucky? With so many good sushi restaurants in town, this one certainly isn't worth your time or dollar. Skip the soggy seaweed, flavor-free hand rolls and head elsewhere.

phil b.

Yelp
Been coming weekly since it's been open Great fish and very accommodating staff. Lionel is the best. The support staff is very attentive. Try this you'll be a regular too

Luba K.

Yelp
Amazing crispy rice spicy tuna!! Great service! Nice atmosphere, great location! Recommend!

Mahnaz B.

Yelp
The Best food, a super tasty variety and the service is amazing! Super clean and nice staff everyone is friendly I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys quality.

Daniel L.

Yelp
We love this restaurant! The food and atmosphere are always great and Arnold is a great server- he made the birthday very special!

Esther O.

Yelp
5 stars for authenticity and flavor. Creativity seeps through every dish in this cozy little hidden away spot. So glad I got to try this place after seeing Kate Hudson post drool worthy pics of the food. The chef is Michelin rated and it shows. Love how everything is already sauced for you even the rolls- no guesswork or dipping necessary. All condiments are made in house down to their wasabi and soy sauce. Service was warm, friendly and prompt and the server knew which sake to recommend with the dishes. It was a little busy on a weekday night but it didn't feel understaffed like so many other places feel these days. Def would return!

David S.

Yelp
I want to start this by saying I never write yelp reviews. I am so disappointed that I just had to write this. I live close by so I ordered takeout thinking the sushi would be good as the restaurant is in a nice neighborhood and pricy. First off, the portion size for the cut roll I ordered was a joke. It was around half or less than half of the size of a typical cut roll. I also added avocado to it, and there was barely a sliver in there. I have never had an experience like this even at a more casual and less pricey sushi restaurant. I was also surprised that the restaurant provided prepackaged ginger that tasted very odd and plasticky rather than something more fresh provided in the sushi container. Not what you would expect from an upscale restaurant like this. Unfortunately to make it worse, the taste was not the best. It sounds crazy to say but I have had better sushi from grocery stores. There is obviously a lack of care for the quality of the food and customers experience, even with a hefty price tag attached.

JiHae L.

Yelp
What a nice spot to have dinner or lunch either with friends, on a date, or with family. When I went, they were in the midst of changing out their menu. I will have to go back again when I'm back in town. The service was so nice, and since we had kids with us, they were very accommodating to the kids.

Nasim S.

Yelp
3 letters ... WOW! I just had the most incredible dining experience at a sushi joint! The food was seriously mind-blowing - every dish was a burst of flavors and looked like a piece of art. The best quality fish I've ever had in California and even overseas. It's an exclusive little gem in Brentwood that I am so happy I know about! Everything from the most amazing sashimi, sushi, and even fried chicken to the ambience, the customer service, and vibe are 100%. The scallop Nigiri is my favorite:) I don't think there's a better restaurant I could recommend whether it's lunch, dinner, date, or with friends.

Bandar A.

Yelp
Not recommended, was okay. Food took really long to come out and service was not great.

Linda G.

Yelp
Our favorite Japanese restaurant! The sushi is high grade and delicious,.We love the appetizers like gyoza, tofu, and tempura, and the Bento Boxes and Chirasi are also fantastic ! The staff is warm and friendly. Can't beat it!

Joseph M.

Yelp
Great dragon roll, eel is awesome. Went with my wife and had a great date night. Highly recommend

Ana M.

Yelp
I heard of this place from some friends and I was waiting for a special occasion to go there since it's not really close to home. On my boyfriend's birthday we finally got to try it. Totally worth it! It's a small restaurant but cosy and somehow the majority of the tables get a very good view of the chefs working on the magic. They have a great selection on the sake which is not really common in LA. We got a cold sake bottle recommended by Cailin, our server which was very helpful and super nice. I asked her for food recommendations and she mentioned the Spicy Tuna on crispy rice and the Gyoza so we tried it. Both to die for but if I'll have to choose one it would be Spicy Tuna. Amazing dish, one of the best that I've ever tasted so far. We ordered 3 more specialty rolls and each of them had amazing quality fish. Just mouth melting no matter the type of the fish. At the end they were kind enough to treat us with a birthday mochi ice cream. My favorite was the black sesame. Thank you so much Cailin and Kiitsu. We will be back very soon.

Josh C.

Yelp
Best sushi in town!! Along with amazing customer service from everyone! Will absolutely be back

Jimmy R.

Yelp
I've been trying to find a great sushi spot in Brentwood and this spot delivered! This was the best sushi I've had in Brentwood! Great atmosphere and the service Arnold provider was incredible

Madison O.

Yelp
Soooo good. Attentive service. They've got nice lowkey booths for couples. I will be coming back soon the food surprised me!!

Sean B.

Yelp
I am reluctant to write a negative review of a new place because I want to give them time to find their footing, but this too profoundly disappointing to wait. The prices and marketing are for a premium sushi experience, but the sushi was shockingly mediocre and the portions were scant. You can see from the pictures that the tuna looked so unappetizing that we had to check the menu to see if it was supposed to be cured tuna as opposed to raw. The tuna was the worst, but the salmon was a little fishy, others were so-so, and overall the portions were so small that they weren't satisfying. It was also weird that they included both ponzu and soy sauce but had no instructions on which to use on which fish. Lastly, we got one "Arita" at $36 and one "Imari" for $48 and were shocked to see the only difference between them was adding one serving of uni. Guess we should have looked more closely at the menu because it does say that.

Arnold B.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best Japanese food I've ever had! The ambiance was absolutely beautiful.. The sushi's and sashimi are freshly served without delayed! all the staffs are very friendly and accommodating! the service is excellent! Everything was seamless. Will definitely comeback with friends and family

Brittany S.

Yelp
I was just at kiitsu with my girlfriend and we both throughly enjoyed it! The crispy rice spicy tuna was our fav. The food is so fresh and the service was excellent too. We didn't have to wait long to be seated and the staff was attentive to our needs. The ambiance is a vibe. I highly recommend this sushi restaurant! It's def on the top of our list!

Lily K.

Yelp
Imari is a new restaurant that's been open for only 4 days and are currently offering 3 different bento boxes. The boxes range from $28 to $48 and it's a great chance to try out the fresh fish they offer along with their varieties of pickled veggies such as lotus root, ginger, cucumber, and Daikon radish. I got the Imari box ($48) and it comes with a little bit of everything. While picking up my order I caught a glimpse of the chefs creating their work of art and with the amount of attention to detail that they put into these boxes I already knew the bento was going to be good. The sashimi in my bento included Tamago, big eye tuna marinated in house made soy sauce, salmon, smoked black cod ( my absolute favorite in the box next to the Tamago), sea bream, uni (Hokkaido I believe), shiitake mushroom, and steamed rice topped with river seaweed and sesame. The Tamago was amazing. It was slightly sweet, custardy, and had such a great delicate flavor that I will never forget. It was a great way to end the meal and a reminder that I'll have to go back when they offer the omakase. I saw them already making lots of boxes and they've only been one for a few days. Hurry up and get yours while there is no wait. For now order is online only I believe because they order a certain amount of fish every day.

Jason O.

Yelp
The best sushi in Brentwood California. It is a must try. Highly recommend the crispy rice spicy tuna and wagyu!

Kayhan J.

Yelp
Imari is a great Japanese spot in Brentwood. The staff is super friendly and extremely informative. Everything we ordered was explained to us in great detail, which adds to the experience. The ambiance is nice, and you can even sit by the bar and watch the sushi chef at work. For food I honestly could recommend everything we ordered (in the pictures). My favorites were the wagyu, the gyoza, and the tuna and avocado roll. However, everything was great except for the uni. The uni was $18 per roll, and it was definitely not the best uni I've had. I would definitely recommend giving Imari a try, it's a great vibe and delicious.

L A.

Yelp
Easily one of the best sushi restaurants in LA. I used to go here when it was Ngao many years ago, so I decided to pop in and see what replaced it. I was truly blown away. One of the most upsetting things in LA is how the service industry has just given up on professionalism and hospitality... it was nice to walk in and be greeted by a friendly hostess... this extended beyond just her- the waitress, the chef and the owner were incredibly attentive, warm and welcoming. The food was delectable and the fish was so fresh - nothing tasted fishy, and everything was seasoned to perfection. I'm a total sushi snob, and it's safe to say this is definitely my new go-to spot. Ten out of ten!

Richard R.

Yelp
I ordered Kiitsu's lunch special and was very satisfied! Fish tastes fresh, sides were great, and the price was right.

Ryan B.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service! Came in for lunch and had the omakase. Great selection. Everything tasted fresh.

Martin H.

Yelp
We tried Kiitsu for the first time last night. What a find!! The food was incredible, some of the best sushi I have had in a long time. The service was outstanding, with friendly and attentive waitstaff. Well worth the visit. We can't wait to go again. And again - to what is now our favorite sushi spot in Los Angeles.

Julie P.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent. Order the soft shell crab roll with spicy tuna. ( not on the menu but was recommended). Delicious!!!quality of fish and presentation was amazing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It was excellent.

Baruch T.

Yelp
Wow. What an improvement. Lionel was amazing. Food is delicious and amazingly fresh. Tastes are deep and complex and yet inviting. A neighborhood sushi with a sophisticated twist. A gem.

Miyah K.

Yelp
Absolute perfection! Totally in love with this place. The intimate setting preps you for a moment of dining pleasure. With a noninvasive view of the impeccable chefs, you have a choice to hide away in a booth or get a front row seat to the action. You'll never feel ignored as each server is ready and willing to tend to every guest. From the savory gyoza to the delightfully refreshing milk ice cream with mochi and strawberries, Kiitsu will always leave you completely satisfied.

Lena K.

Yelp
I had such an amazing dinner the other night at Kiitsu. We started with the Plum Wine which was very refreshing and flavorful. My favorite thing was the cherrywood - smoked black cod. The cod was incredibly fresh and silky with just the right amount of char. Every time I visit Kiitsu know I'm guaranteed to have a delicious and fun experience. The chef is clearly not afraid to experiment with unique flavors. The service and ambiance put the cherry on top for a perfect date night or girls night out!

Phattharaporn S.

Yelp
Locating in Brentwood, this newly opened restaurant is delivering yummy happiness under the culinary direction of the world-renowned Chef Derek Wilcox of 3-Michelin-starred restaurants in Kyoto and NYC. Read along to discover the finest and freshest sourced ingredients for their Washoku, traditional dishes that represent Japanese culture but here in LA. SALAD & CRISPY SARDINE OMG This is the awesomest starter!! It did the job of calling all my hungry spirit really well. The veggies are fresh AND freshly mixed. Crispy sardine topping comes in such high quality - perfectly crispy and smells good. KANPACHI SASHIMI Warm up your stomach with this beautiful plate of fresh kanpachi. I'm sure you'll be blessed right away after one chopstick of it!! Feel free to dip a little wasabi or soy sauce to for some more flavor but I absolutely think they're ReaLLy FReSh & PeRFecT even without dipping. GYOZA You'll be amazed with these gyoza because they don't taste the same as typical gyozas sold in most Japanese restaurant, even the smell is different. They have a lot more spice and the filling is mixed really nicely. I extremely love every bite!! Again, they go well with accompanied sauce but also great just on their own. DAILY FISH GRILLED WOW I haven't had this wonderful fish texture for so long!! It's literally MeLT iN ThE MouTH experience if you're looking for one. The fish has subtle seasoning and was perfectly grilled to be as soft as you can imagine. IMO this is really a MUST-TRY!! CHOPPED SHRIMP ROLL Incredible rolls featuring finely chopped cooked shrimps. Rice, seaweed and shrimp filling go together really well. It has mild taste and yummy. AND ALSO, the seaweed is really delicious and crispy!! BIG EYE TUNA ROLL Avocado & tuna roll; but made it even more delicious.. I love the hint of soy sauce in every roll, see #REEL for how sophisticated it's made. This roll has perfect combination of flavor. I LOVE eating it in between pickled ginger LOL (see below) PICKLED GINGER A little complimentary dish - but I want to mention because it's simply amazing and goes well with everything. The ginger is very juicy and a little sweet. The flavor is not extremely strong so I really love it. Try a piece in between eat sushi roll!! MISO SOUP Sourcing out the best tofu from Meiji Tofu and adding aromatic grains of brown rice, Imari has made this cup of miso soup for real SeConD To NonE. Imagine drinking hot miso and smelling wonderful rice scent at the same time MILK ICE CREAM Finish your course with ridiculously good milk ice cream in collaboration with the famous Sweet Rose Creamery located a min walk away THIS IS THE MOST MILK YOU CAN EVER MILK!! It's really thick, yummy, milky, smooth, oh my.. Also a MUST-TRY because it's available only at Imari. Lastly, a little secret ..their Omakase course is launching in like a month - BOOK BEFORE IT'S FULL!!

Zao Z.

Yelp
One of the best meals I had in LA and probably the most authentic Japanese meal I had in LA. Chatting with Chef Wilcox, you get an appreciation of his dedication to sourcing the best and freshest ingredients. He is among the most real and nicest people as well The food was delicious and had a nice progression of flavors. He cooks with a certain precision and everything is very balanced. Service was great The place was very well designed and built. It is great for a business clients or a date. I highly recommend this place.

Suzie S.

Yelp
Best experience at super chic sushi restaurant in Brentwood ! Top notch service , quality of sushi , great ambiance in Brentwood Area . It will be my go to sushi restaurant for sure Thanks for the great hospitality to owner of Kiitsu " Jason" and his amazing staff . Highly recommended
