Cafe Nagomi - Review - Soma - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"SoMa’s latest green tea newcomer is Cafe Nagomi, a takeout counter specializing in matcha drinks and soft serve. On top of a traditional matcha latte, they also have versions with white chocolate, hojicha, and, as with other recent matcha spots, an einspanner—theirs is with strawberry." - Julia Chen

Great if you want a really strong authentic matcha flavor! Soft serve was super lightly and fluffy and latte was really flavorful

Google
Legit matcha place, reasonably priced, and you could taste the earthiness. Owners are very nice, and the ambiance is fancy as well :) Glad it is finally open!

I recently visited Café Nagomi on their opening day, and I have to say it was a delightful experience. This little matcha shop is truly a gem. The kiosk setup was super easy to navigate, and the service was impressively quick. As for the matcha itself, the drink I tried had strawberry whipped cream and made with really high-quality , the matcha bitterness was balanced out by the strawberry fruitiness, with a smooth and rich flavor. The matcha ice cream was also a highlight: creamy, smooth, perfectly flavored

Google
This matcha place is just amazing! Their matcha is smooth, fresh and so yummy. I tried a lots of matcha places in the city but this one beats them all! You can taste the quality in every sip. I heard this place uses 65 grade ceremonial matcha.

Reiman

Google
My new favorite Matcha cafe! Quality is the name of the game! The matcha is imported ceremonial grade (65). Everything, from the jams to the white chocolate ganache and even the simple syrup, is made in-house by a Japanese chef. I love the vibe and service, and I will definitely be a regular.

Tina T.

Yelp
All of the staff were so nice. However, the drink options were very limited, and if I'm being blunt, not innovative. While the drinks were good quality matcha, nothing on the menu sets it apart from other good matcha cafes. I would recommend this if you were in the area but I would not drive/commute very far for it.

Yelp
I tried the strawberry matcha latte and it was chef's kiss!! The matcha flavor comes through really nicely and the strawberry adds the perfect amount of sweetness and fruitiness to the drink. This is a small &convenient takeout spot but it's super aesthetic and really cute inside. Definitely coming back to try more drinks and the matcha soft serve!

Yelp
I'm always so excited (and slightly entertained) when a new matcha spot opens up in SF, especially around FiDi. I came in on a Saturday around noon, and they weren't too busy. I ordered their Strawberry Matcha Latte. The taste was solid, but I do think it was overpriced. The matcha flavor came through which is good, but it was not very smooth. The strawberry flavor was also very artificial. In general, I think it was fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The store has a pretty small interior and no seating, so it's not a place you could really hang out. Ordering is also via kiosk, and there are limited options to adjust sweetness or have alternative milks.

Yelp
Excited to see a new matcha spot downtown! Not too busy post lunch on a weekday. There was a spot to place digital order and was efficient/user friendly. I appreciated that I was able to actually taste the hojicha flavor (vs some other places is more milk heavy). However, on a cold day, wish my latte was a little hotter as it felt luke warm. Just a feedback to make sure the steaming of milk is correct temperature. I'm sure I could've asked for a re-do but I was low on time and needed to head out. Will consider going back.

Yelp
I was walking on New Montgomery Street near the Palace Hotel when I stumbled upon Café Nagomi. It is a small café serving beverages and soft serve. I ordered a hot matcha latte with oat milk to have my first taste be their classic drink. The latte was a gorgeous, vibrant green and at first taste had a strong, bitter matcha flavor. It came unsweetened. Very good! The latte was as requested (extra hot). The service was prompt since I was the only person ordering at the time! There is also Hojicha and coffee available on the menu at Café Nagomi. As a takeaway shop, the ambiance is clean and pretty. I'll be returning to try other beverages out.

Yelp
I tried their strawberry matcha because it looked really promising! I thought this was very okay. Matcha was bitter and clumpy at the bottom. The strawberry jam was more tart and didn't balance out the matcha. I think I'd love an option to add sweetness or I'd try something else... Ordering is via kiosk and there was no option to add or adjust sweetness. No seating inside, but beautiful decor. Service is great, you can see the staff making the drinks behind a glass counter so that was cool!

Anchal A.

Yelp
Unfortunately didn't love this spot :/ I ordered an iced strawberry matcha. The strawberry felt more like jam and wasn't mixing well in the drink. Although the color looked great, matcha itself didn't have a very strong flavor. There were clumps throughout the drink too. My friend ordered hojicha and I preferred that over my matcha. Also fyi -- drinks aren't sweetened, so just ask for sweetener at the start or after your order and they add it in for you.

Yelp
I was in the area and I wanted to get something sweet and this was nearby. I ordered the matcha soft serve. The soft serve was nice and creamy. I will say that the portion size is a little small for $7.50 just sayin. My order came out within 30 secs of me placing my order which I really liked. Note, parking in this area can be lowkey challenging depending on what time you plan to come. Try it out if you like. :)

Yelp
Got the matcha latte and strawberry matcha einspänner - they were ok Service: order at kiosk. Could have a wait time during peak Parking: hard, gotta find a garage
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Such a cute shop! I love all of the new aesthetic cafes popping up! I got the white chocolate raspberry matcha latte, felt like it wasn't a drink offered everywhere, and it def lived up to its name! It wasn't overly sweet but you could still taste the white chocolate and distinctly raspberry undertones. You order at a kiosk which is convenient and the line moves pretty fast. It does have a fresh feel though and ran by a younger generation probably like mid college, I love supporting small business owners even mote when they're young entrepreneurs! But beware, the shop is small with few sitting and you can hear everyyy word, I could hear all the employees conversation behind the glass and practically the person's thoughts next to me.
google avatar

Stephanie Z.

Yelp
The Matcha is so good!!! Definitely get the strawberry one and the lids are also randomly so cute
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good, with room for improvement! Came here at lunch time with a short line (about 5 people in front). Expect a very standard ordering experience -- order at machine, then fetch your drink when your name is called. Barista 1 had good form when observed making the drinks, but barista 2 (presumably in training) did make a minor mistake of overfilling the cup, which led to a small spill. The milks they had were premium -- straus farm cow milk and oatly barista edition. Taste wise, the strawberry matcha einspanner was great and the hojicha latte could have been a tad stronger. I would be willing to come back to try their soft serves!
google avatar

Yelp
The matcha is pretty high quality, definitely in the top 3 of SF matcha spots! The matcha is very fragrant and rich, and is not overly sweet. They don't let you adjust ice and sugar, but their drinks are not really sweet at all. It is pricey for a small cup but it's SF after all. The strawberry puree tastes really fresh. They make their drinks fairly quick, only waited for around 5 minutes after ordering. The store is small and cute, also selling their own matcha containers. I'll try the matcha with heavy cream next time since I did wish their regular matcha was creamier to balance out the richness of the matcha quality.
google avatar

Ivy K.

Yelp
Cute matcha spot in downtown. They use ceremonial grade matcha imported from Japan and the matcha is very strong they do not skimp! The strawberry jam was also very refreshing and I loved the strawberry einspanner cream on top. Only downside is that it is a pretty small cup with a lot of ice and the drink is $8.50 so if you're looking to splurge it's a good place to try out
google avatar

Lianne C.

Yelp
New cafe selling matcha in SF! They open til the evening which I appreciate since a lot of stores in the area close early after office hours. The chubby cups are really cute, but they ran out of cup holders and I had to walk 20 mins home with two cups in my hands which was a little troublesome. They didn't allow sugar adjustments on the kiosk to order but it's not too sweet, only if you order strawberry eispanner thats its just a little sweeter but still perfect. The strawberry flavor isn't artificial and you can taste it well. Not a sit down spot, just a grab n go
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
I daresay it's my top 3 matcha in SF :") I got the strawberry matcha einspanner ($8.50) and for someone who loves strong matcha, their 6g of matcha per cup was evident through the matcha strength even with the strawberry purée, which wasn't too sweet nor artificial. the strawberry cream was also light and yummy. the cup's adorable too. would come back to try other drinks!

Yelp
New matcha spot that opened downtown! We happened to drop by on opening day and it wasn't too busy inside. Not much seating inside, so would just do takeout here. The service was very friendly and our drinks arrived quickly. The white chocolate raspberry matcha drink sounded interesting, but was too sweet for me. There wasn't much of a matcha taste at all and the fruit syrup was strong. The strawberry einspanner drink was a lot better. Loved the strawberry cream on top, and it had more of a creamy matcha flavor. Would recommend this one. Overall a nice matcha spot, I think I just ordered the wrong thing. Would love to come back to try their soft serve or regular matcha lattes.
google avatar

Janny W.

Yelp
Tried their white chocolate raspberry matcha latte. This matcha was so creamy! It's vibrant, bold, earthy and it had the right amount of sweetness from the white chocolate and raspberry.  (just maybe with a little less ice ) The white chocolate and raspberry combo surprisingly worked really well together. Will definitely come back. Cheers.

Yelp
Cafe Nagomi is located on New Montgomery, if you are coming from Market Street it is located on the same side as the Palace Hotel, about block away. The café is small and there is no seating available. I stopped by on a Monday at 2:30pm to check it out and it was packed and the line was out the door! But the line moved quick and the staff moved quicker. I waited less than 5 minutes to get my drink. I ordered the strawberry matcha einspanner and I loved it. The cup quality is pretty good and could be reusable. It did not come with a lid and you have to mix well before drinking. It did cost me $8.50 for one drink but I'd come back to try the others.

Yelp
The hot matcha with oat milk was exactly what I needed on a cold day. The matcha is from award-winning Shizuoka Matcha. It is smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced. The oat milk added a subtle sweetness that complemented the earthy matcha without overpowering it. Definitely a go-to order for anyone who wants a dairy-free option that doesn't compromise on flavor!

Yelp
no line on a sunday morning! i was surprised given all the current hype. order at the kiosk. this is a grab-and-go spot, no seating. limited menu--i got the strawberry einspanner, which was nice and creamy. high quality matcha, but for the price and size, i think i prefer maruwu seicha. glad i tried it, but i'm not itching to go back.

Yelp
My friend and I were craving matcha so we stumbled upon a shop and looked up reviews and saw that they just opened or is in their soft opening. When we came in, there was a self service kiosk that helped you place orders. My feedback for this was that there isn't a way to do less sweet or less ice so you have to tell the barista your order to adjust. With that being said, I originally really enjoyed my hojicha latte in the beginning because it was so rich and nutty. Because of the amount of ice in it, it diluted the drink quickly that I only drank half of my drink and ended up throwing it away. My friends matcha was a really nice color and we saw they store the matcha properly in a tin can so that was nice. When we drank the matcha, not sure what happened but it was very milky than your normal earthy matcha taste so we were a bit disappointed:( Maybe because they are in a soft opening launch they are still working through making things but need to try another spot
google avatar

Yelp
Probably my favorite matcha spot in SF! We ordered two matcha lattes (with oat milk) - the matcha had a deep umami and when mixed with the oat milk, had a perfect amount of sweetness. Friendly, quick service. The cafe is small inside, so unfortunately there isn't space to sit. Because of its location in downtown SF, it's a bit challenging to navigate to the cafe with the car (and there's limited street parking), but there's a tiny private parking garage about 1.5 blocks behind it (expect to pay about $5 for 15-20 min). Definitely worth the visit!

Yelp
I believe today was opening day! The baristas were so friendly and eager to serve their first drinks :) You can watch them make your drinks, I believe the display is set up for that. The strawberry matcha einspanner was so pretty. I loved how the light top, basically whipped cream with goji berries. I thought the mild tartness of the strawberry worked well with the slight sweetness of the cream. The white chocolate raspberry was similar - a nice balance between tart and sweet. The interior is so sleek and calming. As of yet, there aren't any seats, so it's more of a grab and go place. You order on a screen, and though the initial screen says it only accepts card / Apple Pay, the last screen says you get 3% off if you pay in cash. If you've got cash on you, see if you can get that discount :) I think the owners might have a dog? There was a cute little guy dressed in a pumpkin costume hanging around inside. There was also a little water bowl near the door if your dog needs a drink. Pumpkin doggo gets a 15/10.

Yelp
My love for matcha green tea has helped open the door to another set of drink and dessert creations. I have yet to go back and try anything matcha. Today's just a soft opening, and I expect a very long line, which is actually just few people ordering matcha soft serves and lattes. The matcha green tea the barista couples have were from Shizuoka Prefecture, not Uji nor Kagoshima. I say give it a try. After all, my milky matcha soft serve is just as green as ever. I've seen how nifty their hole-in-the-wall looks like, and it's like something we're itching to see straight from the countryside. As for the menu options, they finally revealed two types of Geisha coffee, which one of them originated from Veracruz Mexico. I have yet to try matcha green tea Monte Blanc once they're ready to expand their menu options!

Yelp
Japanese cafe with a variety of matcha & hojicha drinks! They're a pretty small cafe with no seating. You just order and pick up from the counter! They have cute decor with wooden panels along the walls and doors. They have 2 kiosks on the left for you to order and drinks range around $7. My friend and I ordered a Hojicha Latte (3/5 kinda grainy and nothing special) and Strawberry Matcha Einspanner (strawberry was pretty tart and matcha was alright could be stronger). They also said they have no sweetener? Overall, not a strong contender for matcha or hojicha.
google avatar

Pedram B.

Yelp
I've been to this cute place twice now and have mixed reviews. The first time I ordered a matcha latte and the second time I got a soft serve matcha ice-cream in a cone. The matcha latte is a solid 7.5/10 and is fairly priced compared to surrounding areas and the fact that it's in downtown. In my opinion this is the best matcha latte in the immediate FiDi/Downtown area. The ice-cream is wayyy smaller than I thought it would be. At $7.50 I was expecting significantly more substance. My friend who got his ice cream in a cup (that was also priced the same) received significantly more than I have. The ice cream also seemed a bit diluted. Overall though the staff is nice and the service is fast, I'd come back for the matcha latte.
google avatar

Alicia L.

Yelp
Came here for a morning matcha run with coworkers and came around 10am which was the best time because there was a long line after us. They make each matcha to order so it was so fresh and the strawberry pure + cream top was to DIE for. There isn't a sitting outside so it's a drink to pick up and be on your way but I kind of love that especially being in DT SF, you are just always on the go.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
The Classic Matcha Latte has a pleasantly earthy flavor that really highlights the quality of the matcha. It's not too sweet, which I appreciated, and lets the natural bitterness and depth of the tea come through without feeling overpowering. However, I do wish they used less ice, because the drink felt a bit watered down by the time I got halfway through. The flavor is great, but a stronger concentration or lighter ice would make the experience even better!
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
If you like strong matcha, this place is definitely for you! They use a whopping 6g of matcha, haven't even finished my drink yet and I'm WIRED. Here's my complete honest thoughts: I think 6g is very generous for the price point, however... I personally think having that much matcha for an enjoyable drink is a lot and a bit unnecessary unless you're looking for that super caffeinated matcha. I've tried a lot of matcha places, and I'm a little bit biased as I make my own matcha at home from the matcha I got in Japan. This place is GOOD, but sad to say it's not my favorite... I got 2 drinks bc I wanted to try both! I got the strawberry matcha latte & the hojicha latte with oat milk. The best part is they don't charge $$$ to sub oat!! Which I think is a win! Thanks Nagomi for lactose intolerant inclusivity :') I would've loved to try their einspanner but unfortunately not milk subs. The strawberry matcha latte after mixing was flavorful! I do love the strawberry puree they have. The matcha itself I felt wasn't grassy per se, but it definitely leaned towards that flavor profile, slightly bitter, bold, earthy. I fear it's from the 6g they use lol. Green color of the matcha, great! This drink felt like it was trying to mix well together but the strong matcha flavoring and after taste made it a little unbalanced. The hojicha latte is probably something I'd come back for! The roast in the tea was roastin, and I didn't mix it well the first few sips but just the nutty roasty flavoring on its own without the sweetener felt proportioned. Adding in the sweetener after mixing better, wow. The mouthfeel had slight graininess but nothing you can really point out, so I'd say smooth overall. I saw they also had geisha pour over coffee and soft serve, so I do wanna come back to try those out. Small shop in FiDi, standing area only, not really a cafe to sit around and hang out or do work at. I came when they opened on a Thursday, no line, self order kiosk but I think you can order with someone as well. It's in FiDi so parking can be tough if you're driving in.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
Really friendly staff. They stir the matcha in store. The strawberry matcha einspanner was beautiful to look at and had a way more concentrated matcha flavor in comparison to the latte. They did not cheap out on the strawberry syrup at all either. The matcha latte was good and had a good matcha concentration. It comes sweet automatically so make sure to ask for no sugar if you prefer that. This place lets you sub for oat milk with no cost and has a few other items on the menu like soft serve and hojicha. It's a takeout matcha spot, no place to sit.
google avatar

Chau P.

Yelp
If you like grassy matcha, the matcha here is for you. The wait was about 20 minutes. I wasn't a fan of the matcha latte as it was on the grassy and bitter side. The strawberry matcha einspanner was more to my liking, but it still wasn't amazing.
google avatar

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
Another new matcha place just opened up downtown! Stopped by with some friends mid-afternoon on a thursday and it was packed. The store is very small with no seating so most people ordered to go and left afterwards. We ordered from a kiosk, grabbed the receipt and then stepped outside until our order was called. The wait was on the longer side -- there were only 2 people making the drinks and they were hand whisking the matcha. Staff was very friendly though and patient with all the orders. I ordered the iced matcha latte: matcha flavor was noticeable but it was a little more bitter than I was expecting. Not too sweet or diluted. Overall, it was a solid matcha and I'd come back and get it again.
google avatar

Victor C.

Yelp
Visited on day one of soft opening, glad it's finally opened! I got the iced breve matcha latte - really rich and creamy (it's half whole milk half heavy cream) and the matcha flavor still shines strong (sweet and slight umami, didnt taste much astringency) though the drink is definitely on the sweeter side. However it's a hard drink to properly stir with the ice, so the back end of the drink was definitely more bitter and unbalanced but overall it was good, featuring Shizuoka Matcha and a different vibe (and a variety of drink flavors) from Shoji down the block. No seating inside but the owner is friendly, order on the tablets so lines should be relatively streamlined.
google avatar

Janessa M.

Yelp
I tried this new matcha spot with some coworkers and ordered their iced strawberry matcha latte. This drink was a bit too sweet for me and I didn't taste a lot of the matcha, I felt like the sweetness of the strawberry syrup overpowered the matcha. My coworker did like their matcha soft serve and regular iced matcha latte. I'd probably try something different if I come back here.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Tried this new spot today and enjoyed it. I ordered the iced breve matcha latte and was very creamy and tasteful. There were 4 customers in front of me and waited about 20 mins. You can tell they were still trying to figure things out but staff was very nice and eager to serve. You place your order on a self serve kiosk and it was really simple. Definitely going to go back and try the other drinks.

Vanessa O.

Yelp
Loved their hojicha! Overall a very relaxing vibe and kind baristas. As usual, you can expect overpriced drinks in san francisco so that sucks but its no surprise.
google avatar

Tessa L.

Yelp
One of the worst matcha and hojicha I've tried! We ordered hot classic matcha latte, iced classic hojicha latte and strawberry einspanner. All lacks taste, the powder they use is not good! The strawberry einspanner tasted like strawberry with milk and whipped cream on top! Wasted $22.50 here!
google avatar

Alisa G.

Yelp
Drinks are good but there's no place to sit here. The workers are pretty much among themselves and doesn't really engage with the customers. Everything is fine but they need more items on the menu like pastry or food to make me come back. Maybe offer cookies? Cute merch? I feel like this place have a lot of potential that they can make it more pop.

Yelp
A small spot..a very cozy and only Togo Matcha. I am Matcha lover, I try to drink all over the S.F Area. Whenever the place open new location. This place has a high quality matcha and Hojicha. I am so glad to find this place and staff member were very attentive, and a great Service. I will definitely come back to try other drinks . Thank you, Cafe Nagomi. I am highly recommended if you want to get some drink. try to get opening time.. I went to this place.. This place already some people are waiting in the line, That's the proof of their quality of drinks a service.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by because it's around the corner from our office, was surprised by how high quality the matcha was Bright jade color and clean umami taste without any bitterness
google avatar

Yelp
If you love a bold, strong matcha, this is the spot for you! They just opened, and it's such a cute little place for grab-and-go matcha. The staff is super friendly, too.

Yelp
Great if you want a really strong authentic matcha flavor! Soft serve was super lightly and fluffy and latte was really flavorful

Yelp
First time at this new shop in New Montgomery. Clean well designed interior. The menu is simple and easy the understand. The ordering process is easy in a touch screen that's only one page long. Service was quick and efficient. I ordered the iced latch latte. It was excellent and seems to use a high quality matcha, thankfully not a syrup. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu especially the soft serve. Glad to see them in this area.

Yelp
Loved the experience here / very high quality matcha, good value for money, fast and efficient service. My new go-to! Ambience on point.

Yelp
I love how they have my country's coffee (El Salvador ) I finally can taste it again.

Maya K.

Yelp
I came by with my daughter. I had the pour over geisha coffee. It was a delicious treat. I took the advice of the man who prepared it for me and did not add sugar or milk. I'm so glad I followed his advice. I will be back.
