Awesome spot for authentic food in Michigan! Worth the stop! We got the garlic chicken plate, the mango sticky rice, the Tom yum soup and a tea leaf salad. Unfornately the tea leaf salad wasn’t added to our bag but the portions were so generous that we were satisfied anyways (+ with left overs). The chicken was so flavorful and it came with a side of some type of tangy fish sauce. I had heard a lot about the soup before coming and it definitely lived up to the hype- so flavorful and packed with ingredients and noodles on the side. The place has a market attached filled with hard to find ingredients and snacks, awesome to browse while you wait for your take out. There is no customer seating for dining in. Will be back to explore more of the menu.

The food is delicious and it's family owned, which I love. They are take out only but have a small store that has some items I love. I tried lychee aloe juice. It was my first time trying that flavor, but I loved it. They have odds and ends and items that would allow you to embrace more of their culture while getting quality odds and ends. I used my walker and was easy to get around. They have a bathroom inside. If you need to wait in your car, especially if a rough day with disability they are willing and kind enough to walk it to your car. When the young lady did, she was so quiet. We were going to go back in ten minutes but looked up and she right there holding are steaming hot food with a smile. I love seafood, and my dish was delicious. The spring rolls were amazing, and sauce is a must. They have a menu with pictures if needed as well.

Google
Good food, good people. It's a hour long round trip for the family, but we manage to get takeout here once a month. Flavorful South East Asian dishes done right. And their retail/grocer, Only place I can find all the spices and specialty items in the area. Call ahead to skip the wait. ;) thanks

Google
Absolutely delicious! Takeout only. There is a store inside now which makes it a tad bit crowded. Roti bread is only served on Fridays and Saturdays.

Google
One of the most unique experiences. Carry out only but everything is made with care & love. I’ve never had tea leaf salad before but it is absolutely something everyone should try. So many unique ingredients. The food is incredible and the service is so friendly. Absolute gem.

Google
Amazing food. My husband and I like to try new/different food when we come across a place. I am honestly not sure that they would have anything that we wouldn't enjoy on the menu. I love that I don't tolerate spice but my husband loves spicy food and we both were able to choose our level of spiciness. The owners were very kind and helpful.

Kimmy M

Google
The most delicious pad Thai, their garlic chicken is spectacular and their tea leaf salad is out of this world. We had their spring rolls for the first time and they did not disappoint either! Naing Myanmar is a special Lansing staple and we are lucky to have them!

Google
After hearing about this place online, we drove a bit over 2 hours to try it out. Every time I drive through Lansing I’ll be stopping here. My girlfriend and I got 4 meals and some spring rolls. We were very impressed with the spring rolls, and I was blown away by the tom yum. It’s the best I’ve had. I happen to really like Tom yum so I get it at every Asian place that serves it. This is the best! Our other meals more than met expectations and were not only delicious, but presented well. They’ve got themselves another loyal customer in me…and I’ll be telling all of my Lansing friends to give it a try. Huge thumbs up from us!

Yelp
Finally glad I made myself stop into this place! The food was incredible! Please note that this is a takeout only establishment and I would highly recommend ordering ahead as it gets busy with customers and family members inside the establishment. If you are seeking alternative snacks to the everyday convenience store options, this place also has a small grocery area with snacks and treats. Ok back to the food, the flavor was so forward and fresh. The chicken was cooked in the sauce perfectly and the rice was nice and fluffy. I requested the dish to be spicy and was provided seared peppers and a pepper sauce that to turn up the heat. Both add the right amount of heat and tanginess that were well welcomed. I look forward to trying some of there other dishes in the near future!

Yelp
This is actually owned by a family from Burma, making it Burmese food. But they've included Malaysian dishes like Maggi Goreng on their menu. It's a win-win Sadly, it's carry-out only because the food is fabulous. I wasn't in the mood for cabbage so no Goreng for me. Instead I saw the Kong Bong Gyi Kyaw and insisted on it. It's a Korean chicken made Burmese style with medium spice because I'm no hero. You really should try it spicy! Phenomenal. My cousin Jeffery, whom I love, found the Thai menu and ordered their huge Pad See Yew. He and I sat next to each other at his place and swapped forkfulls until the closing bell! Btw, the best option on the Thai menu is easily the Thai Ladna. It's the extra wide rice noodle that does it for me. I can't describe the ambiance and the people seem nice, but I don't really care. What's interesting is when we went outside to wait in the sun, they brought the food out to us! That's great service. 09/24

Yelp
Wow, being new to the area and hearing some good reviews of this place we were more than pleasantly surprised how true they all were! Tiny, take out only, run down mall store but wonderfully authentic fresh cooked food. Having lived in San Francisco for 30 years we were a bit biased hearing their claims but all were very true. Be going at least once a week.

Elaine L.

Yelp
The hand made Samosas had most wonderful tender potatoes and peas inside with extremely delicious seasoning served with amazing tamarind sauce. I would drive back to Lansing for these alone! The Maggi Goreng and Kong Bong Gyi Kyaw were both so superb, great flavors in each dish, would order these again. I'm a spice wimp so ordered everything mild and was pleased everything was indeed "mild". If live in the Lansing area or within a reasonable drive , do check this place out - some great food coming out of this kitchen!

Joanna K.

Yelp
Came here on a whim and so glad I tried this place out! I will definitely be a regular now. I ordered the pad Thai with shrimp and the garlic chicken. I've tried a lot of Thai places and I gotta say, one of the best Thai food I have tried! They give hefty portions with a solid price. Very flavorful and authentic. I will say that the food is on the saltier side. The restaurant is only takeout, but have one table and two chairs outside for hungry customers like my boyfriend and me. They also have Asian snacks and ingredients inside the store as well.

Suzette V.

Yelp
Just excellent food... the flavors are so savory and unique. Best Tom Yum Soup I've ever had. The other dishes we ordered were new to us, but everything was completely delicious. Owners are very pleasant and eager to make your food authentic and the spice level what you need. Ample portions. Take out only, but that is not an issue for me! We ordered 5 dishes which took 30 minutes to make from scratch. Will happily order from here again.

Rose S.

Yelp
I follow a few foodies in the Lansing area and one of gem suggested this place for their Garlic Chicken and Pad Thai. I ordered some takeout for lunch and it smelled so good going back to my office! Wow, just wow. I was so impressed by the garlic chicken. It was SO GOOD. My coworkers were asking what it was and where I ordered it from. They ended up ordering it the next day! I took the pad Thai home for dinner and my fiancé and I enjoyed it too! I got medium spice and he loved it. Everything here was so delicious and I'll definitely be back to order again!

Mee M.

Yelp
Food is always fresh and top notch. Service is quick and the family the always welcoming. Would want to dine in again someday.

Andy I.

Yelp
Good, authentic flavors at competitive prices. It's a takeout place with Asian grocery market.

David S.

Yelp
I had not been to Naing in 5 years and it was as good as I remembered. Great spot a little off the beaten path but well worth your time. Do yourself a favor and order an extra dish that you never had before you will be happy.

Stacey E.

Yelp
We got takeout. It's a small, hole-in-the-wall type restaurant in an international foods shop. The food was DELICIOUS. Amazing depth of flavor, freshness. Highly recommend.

Space Z.

Yelp
Get the pickled tea leaf salad. There is no excuse to deny yourself the medley of textures. Hidden gem.

M C.

Yelp
Great food every time. I absolutely love this place so much! Well worth a visit. I love the Garlic Chicken (both ways) and Samosas. Thai iced tea is great too!

Chris N.

Yelp
As other reviews mention, the building is super sketchy and enough to make most people keep on driving. However, I'm the type of person willing to look beyond the building if the food is legit. Because of COVID, the dining room was closed and they were serving takeout only. Even if the dining room was open, you would probably only want to get take out from here. Taste: Nothing else matters if the food doesn't taste good. Taste is where they earn 5 stars. Value: The menu is extensive with most meals $8-$10. I felt it was a good value considering the ingredients and decent portions. How the food makes you feel after eating: Coconut Noodle with Chicken- fresh cilantro and warm flavorful broth were perfect for a cold winter day Garlic Chicken-flavors warm your tongue and leave you satisfied Overall, I would order from here again. The 5 star review is for the food.

Marji C.

Yelp
Delicious flavorful food! Flavors were unique and vegetables fresh. Meal was made quickly and service was friendly

Skeeter V.

Yelp
OMG the food is amazing. I have tried most of the food on the menu. The service is excellent. The Garlic chicken is the best. The location is not the best, but it is a hidden gem. For years I would not go because of the location, big mistake on my part. Don't judge a book by its cover

Monica A.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this restaurant. My husband used to work on the southside and ate there quite often. He really liked the food, so one day he brought some take out home for me to try. This was several years ago, and the cuisine was unfamiliar to me, so I can't remember what I had. Whatever it was, it made me break out in itchy hives from head to toe. The DH said he could see new hives appear before his very eyes. He called the restaurant, but I don't think he communicated very clearly: "Did you put anything weird in the food?" "No." Perhaps if he would've been more clear, they would've been more helpful. The problem with allergies is that they get worse with repeated exposures. Now I list Burmese food as an allergy and completely avoid the cuisine.

G G.

Yelp
Everything is wonderful, including the hosts of this truly family, hole-in-the-wall take-out joint.

Emma T.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. It is still take out only, but you can't beat it. I recommend the garlic chicken and the magi noodles. Yum!

Espirita S.

Yelp
Unbelievable that Lansing now hosts such a stupendous restaurant! The tea leaf salad was delicious, and so were our other dishes. We stuck to Burmese specialties just to get the full flavor of the place and were not disappointed. Hope this place stays open a very long time!

X B.

Yelp
It was great. Call in the order in advance. It's not as sketchy as it looks on the outside. The market has snacks

Curtis C.

Yelp
Again, this is just my experence. My family tried the garlic chicken and we all came away thinking the meal lacked depth and richness. We'll likely come back to try another dish given the overall good online reviews.

Justine T.

Yelp
Had such a flavorful and authentic meal from this restaurant!! They are doing take out only so call ahead or you can wait while they prepare your meal. Highly recommend the mohinga fish noodles. Each bite is filled with so much flavor and texture. Just like how they make it in Myanmar! I asked today and they can also do catering for small parties -- just to make sure to call at least one week in advance. We'll be making this restaurant one of our regular take out places!

Lynn H.

Yelp
Don't let the exterior of Niang Myanmar Family Restaurant (NMFR) deter you. Yes, the strip mall is run down, but the interior of the restaurant is clean, if basic. The well-cared-for tank of neon tetras is an good indication that the restaurant is well run, which it sure seems to be. I've been meaning to get carry out from NMFR for some time, but I'm not in Lansing very often and the timing never worked out right, so I was thrilled when my meeting got out early and I could stop by. I ordered the tea leaf salad and the Maggi goreng, and both are delicious. The salad is somewhat spicy, with sour and savory flavors. Grated cabbage and dry-roasted soy beans predominate, with additional veggies in a supporting role. Maggi goreng is a fried noodle dish containing chicken, onions, spinach, carrots, and tomatoes. You can choose your spice level for this dish; I chose mild - and it was. This is the first time I've tried tea leaf salad and Maggi goreng, and I haven't ever seen either dish on another menu. I am so glad I got a chance to visit, and I can't wait for the next time.

Christopher G.

Yelp
The menu is extensive, but don't get intimidated, everything is good. When my friend from Thailand is in town, this is where she wants to go. My favorite is the pad ki mos, but there are lots of good options, and it's inexpensive.

H R.

Yelp
Okay it is in a shady looking location and weird to order as you can't go inside. However, the food is delicious! Anyone looking for something outside the norm for food this is a great little spot!

Autumn M.

Yelp
Delish as always! A true gem right here in Lansing MI! Can't get enough of the food and love to support a family owned business. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. The Garlic Chicken and rice and the Maggy Gurang (not sure of spelling) are our go to's. The Maggy is a noodle and chicken dish that even my teens LOVE!

Koko C.

Yelp
So sad to find this is no longer a restaurant. It's been converted to take-out only and a store. You can still get the menu food, but you have to eat it elsewhere. We drove from GR only to find this out, bc it's not posted on their weblink or Facebook page. Unhappy.

Erin G.

Yelp
Wow! I ordered take out bc covid and I was really impressed! They had a whole system down for curbside and it was very smooth. Now onto the food: also wow. This was my first time having Burmese and it was incredible! The flavors remind me of other southeast Asian cuisine but we're still all their own. I tried the Shan noodle soup, which had chicken, veggies, and peanuts in a delicious broth. It's really good but if you want it it's only Friday or Saturday! The tea pickled leaf salad was great. It had crunchy greens and nuts with a good flavor. And lastly the famous garlic chicken. At first I was unimpressed with it and couldn't figure out why everyone recommended it. Then I remembered the sauce that came on the side. Wow! That sauce is important! It was so good. Overall, worth the drive across town to pick it up and as a bonus you get the smells on the way home.

Mary O.

Yelp
Best authentic food in the area. Very friendly and family owned and run. Order the tea leaf salad!

Emily L.

Yelp
I got the pad thai with shrimp and egg. It was incredibly flavorful and authentic. I definitely was not disappointed!

Ryan A.

Yelp
Finding hidden gems like Naing Myanmar Family Restaurant while traveling is my absolute favorite part of using Yelp. I stopped by this mom & pop bistro in Lansing on a road trip across Michigan after seeing all the amazing feedback and the hype did not disappoint. The dishes at Naing Myanmar are fresh, made from scratch, delicious, extremely affordable ($7-$10 for a literal mountain of food) and the service is so friendly it makes you feel like you're eating at home. I opted for the Pad Khing with Chicken, a Chinese/Thai rice dish with fresh mushrooms, peppers and onions and a soy/ginger sauce and it was the perfect combination of sweet and salty. For my drink, I ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee and it was easily one of the best I've had in the U.S. and gave me more energy than I was bargaining for. I can't wait to come back to Naing Myanmar again on my next trip through Lansing to try the Burmese dishes next. Well done and please come bring your cuisine to Columbus!

Kristen S.

Yelp
This place is my favorite restaurant in Lansing. Literally every dish I've eaten from here is delicious. I highly recommend the Tom yum soup and Thai noodle soup-- these tastes cannot be replicated by other restaurants. The perfect combination of salt, acid, fat, and heat in each dish. As a Filipino/SE Asian person I am so happy with the flavor profile. My go to spot for comfort food! Also it's family owned and everyone is incredibly nice.

Dylan R.

Yelp
The quality of the service and food is amazingly consistent and in my experience has not changed at all during the Covid pandemic. I have not had a remotely bad experience after 3+ years of going here. The portion sizes and prices are the best in the Lansing area and I've yet to try something off their menu which has even been less than exceptional. The garlic chicken, tom yum soup, and tea leaf salad definitely deserve the high praise they receive, however I recommend not limiting oneself and exploring more of the menu! The outside of the building isn't the prettiest, due to the strip mall being under constant construction and renovation.... do NOT let this deter you! Great owners, great employees, and great food!!!

Oanh K L.

Yelp
Food is always delicious and quite spicy. A little bit long in waiting time for food to come.

Heather M.

Yelp
Holy cow is this place amazing. I cannot get over the coconut chicken soup I had. Every bite was incredible. Inject this into my veins, please. My husband was very pleased with his garlic chicken, and the papaya salad was out of this world. I know a lot of the other reviews say on Google and otherwise that it's in a "questionable" place, but get past that. You might have a wait to pick up your food but wow, is it worth it.

Cat K.

Yelp
Our family impressions of this restaurant is meh. And although menu entrees are authentic, the outcome was mediocre. Our one pick: the garlic chicken was probably the best dish of what we ordered, but it was quite salty. Even my teen boys agreed. The tea salad was not for us. The two noodle dishes got a few bites from us only. No, no. We would hope to try them again, but we get discouraged when there are so many good reviews and when we give it a try, it's not all that it's made out to be - for us. Sure, others' opinions are theirs and ours is ours.

Sam S.

Yelp
The Tom yum fried rice is the best in town. Family ran business, very nice family and kind service. Call them to order at (517) 574-5211 and pull up in your car. Make sure you call again for pick up (COVID changes). Lovely place!

Allison R.

Yelp
Stopped in to give this place a try due to the many great reviews on here and was extremely underwhelmed. First, the business is in a strip mall that is completely run down and in shambles, so our first impression was not good. Next, the food. The presentation was nice and the rice was pretty good, but I didn't feel that our entrees were anything spectacular. The medium spice was extremely spicy and almost unbearable. Normally medium spice is perfect for me, but I probably should have ordered mild here. The appetizers we ordered (spring rolls and samosas) came out so temperature hot that we both burned our tongues. I don't think we will be back here unless the business moves to a more clean location. **Updated after receiving feedback that the business does serve water by the glass if you request it.**

Madhavi S.

Yelp
The food is very flavorful and distinct. Spring rolls were tasty . The oil used is good and we can feel it in the food. Falooda was ok.

Lauren C.

Yelp
AmaIng food but really unacceptable levels of styrofoam and waste. We had to stop ordering from them. If they just used more responsible clamshells I'd happily order even more than 1x per week.

Carla R.

Yelp
Don't be scared away by the appearance of the exterior. The food is fresh and amazing! Great service. Definitely a must try!

Lisa S.

Yelp
Can't think of a bad thing to say about this place. Sure, the neighborhood isn't the prettiest, but parking is ample and I never felt unsafe. Food is top notch! Great flavors and tasted exceptionally fresh. The garlic chicken that other reviewers have raved about packed a sweet garlic punch. A perfect dish to share and not too bad reheated at home the next day! My roommate was all about the fried spicy noodle dish, which was all kinds of delicious. The heat was nice and lingering, not overpowering at all. Will be back to try the soup and some of those fried apps!

Alysia T.

Yelp
The garlic chicken is life-changing. Also the samosas which I'm not sure are on the official menu

Dolly S.

Yelp
Very good food. The strip mall might look sketchy but the food is worth it! The actual shop is very clean and the staff is so nice. Don't be surprised, though, if you go in and don't get served right away. There is only 3 people working there and only one person on the floor. It is worth the wait!

Victoria L.

Yelp
They really hit the spot for us especially with their garlic chicken! They have a pretty diverse menu--something for everyone in your party and their respective preferences! Such fast, reliable service too!

Cindy A.

Yelp
My friends were not kidding when they said this was restaurant was a hole in the wall. But don't let the exterior scare you off. The inside is clean and sanitary. There was a line in the parking lot before the restaurant opened, so plan accordingly! If you were not the first ones to be seated (you seat yourself), then bring a snack.. because I wouldn't be surprised if the wait is 45 minutes to an hour if you are part of the second wave. When you go in, there is a tiny dining area and each of the seats filled up very quickly. There is a very young server, probably the owners son who is taking orders and he does his best to manage a crowded and hungry waiting room. Our group of six came in and ordered a few items like: -Tea Pickled Leaves with Bean Salad -Thai fried rice with chicken -Thai Larb Salad - Thai Tom Yum Soup -Fried Rice with Basil - Coconut Noodle Soup with Chicken To be honest, I was very surprised when I read through their menu. These food options aren't easy to make. They take time and love. And the two cooks behind the curtained kitchen work extremely hard to appease a large menu that all needs to be made to order. Even if the wait to make the food takes longer than your average restaurant, the family is doing their best to the menu motto "making the best choice" without compromising their authenticity. ---now two stars got docked because I've been back to this location since my initial check in to pick up some carry out when I was in the area. I called an hour in advance, and still had to wait 20 minutes despite giving them my exact arrival time. That was a bit frustrating seeing that I took their wait time into consideration and still had to wait! They also had forgotten my rice for my order that I paid for. I left a message and still haven't heard back from them. I like their food. I understand the wait, but the customer service could improve with some follow up.

Scott M.

Yelp
Amazing food!!! Great local family owned business. Take out only for now. Looking forward to dining in again. Hopefully there are still plans to reopen dining room soon?

Stephen G.

Yelp
I recommended this place to a colleague in Metro Detroit and they frequently make the trip to eat here. I think that summarizes this place quite well. The owners are among the best human beings ever and the food is next level. It's no longer a best kept secret, but I'm incredibly happy for their success.
