Hmm, well, I have mixed feelings about this place. They seem to be a health-focused joint, but there is no nutritional info listed anywhere (and we all know those salad dressing calories can add up). As a first-timer, I thought I was ordering a "set" bowl with brown rice, a choice of protein and predetermined supplementary ingredients, but when I got to the counter, the guy kept asking what else I wanted on the brown rice, and I was confronted with so many choices! It would help if everything was labeled.
It didn't turn out too badly, since I have a somewhat adventurous palate (chicken broth poured over parmesan cheese with brown rice and pulled pork mixed with kale, asaparagus and red onions sounds yummy to me). However, it would be nice if the people behind the counter would offer some guidance to newcomers.
Also, they didn't mix my bowl ingredients together (like it shows in the website video explaining the restaurant's concept). I suppose it's because I ordered my bowl as takeout. I mixed it up when I got home and it tasted better.
Whatever you do, DON'T order black olives and black beans in the same dish. There was an olive pit in my first bite and I thought it was a black bean and bit down on it -- ouch! The black olives were sliced and pitted, so I really wasn't expecting any pits. Overall, not a great first impression for Nalley Fresh, but I may give it a second try if I'm in the area and Jason's Deli or Qdoba are too crowded.
