Have not visited this restaurant for many many years. Glad to find that nothing has changed (some people might disagree with me but I love the familiarity of the old school vibes). Even tho the place has not changed it is still well kept and very clean. Best of all the taste is still great. I must admit I am not a big fan of their chicken but I love their zichar dishes paired with the chicken rice. Staff is friendly and service is fast. Prices are very competitive.

Service was very fast. Very responsive. The chicken is excellent. Very tender and tasty. The bowl of soup that came with the chicken is very flavourful. I think there are some herbs in it. The Sambal kangkong is done well, and we also ordered the prawn omelette, the youtiao with squid fillings. The char siu is well loved by my kids too. All were good in their own right. Will come back here again if I am in the area.

Old school chicken rice place at Upper Thomson Road. The chicken is tender and flavourful, while rice is fragrant. I'm a bit disappointed with their Hainanese Pork Chop as its quite tough. Maybe they fried it too long. Location: Nam Kee Chicken Rice Restaurant, 201 Upper Thomson Rd, Singapore 574343

Took a packet of hainanese chicken rice away for lunch, added a braised hard boiled egg, and some chicken gizzards. For SGD 7.63 (awkward number due to GST), it's alright, felt like I got a packet of chicken rice from the school canteen. I had hoped that they'd add some vegetables or cucumber into the packet of rice. I'd have wished that they'd innovate slightly though, after being in business for quite some many years now. Everything still feels like they're still from the 80s, from the moment you walked in. Whether that's in terms of the interior decorations, improving the taste of their hainanese chicken, or even simply piecing up a set meal box that has a little bit of everything.

Our first visit, recommended by a friend. Staff were quite friendly and prompt. My family didn't like their recommended sweet and sour pork but we loved their chicken rice and steam chicken and dragon chives veg! It is air-conditioned, a little cold and the seats along the wall are a little cramp. Will definitely come back again, but probably public transport cuz parking is a challenge.

I’ve been noticing the shuttering of quite a few old school eateries so I decided to have a taste of old Singapore before it’s too late. Known for its chicken rice, the shop started in 1968 at the present location. It’s since been revitalised by the present generation of three brothers. The ambience is very nostalgic and great for tourists looking for a slice of old Singapore. I had a roast/white mix quarter chicken. The taste is as I remembered from when I was a young kid. The chicken sauce is savory with a sweet aftertaste. The white or steamed chicken is not the most succulent nor is it the greasiest. It’s quite middle-of-the-road. I had an extra portion of roast pork which I regretted. Maybe it’s due to the late hour that I’d arrived but the usually crispy skin is rubbery and lacks flavour. The whole pork is a wash out. But the most disappointing of the meal is the chicken rice. It lacks even the perfunctory fragrance of basic chicken rice. It felt like eating white rice boiled with ginger. I rejected the offer of a second helping to finish my meal because it just left a sad taste in my mouth. The restaurant has added zichar dishes which I saw other patrons ordered. Perhaps the brothers decided to focus on these other offerings instead of its flagship chicken rice. Only go for the atmosphere and to show your kids old school restaurant vibes in Singapore. If you’re going, I recommend the roast chicken. The chilli is perhaps the most authentic experience of my meal. It is also not the most budget friendly dining option for families but it’s one of the cheaper fares along this side of the Upper Thomson foodie stop.

Good chicken rice, both chicken and rice were flavorful. Char siew was pretty average more on the lean side and soaked with gravy. Overall decently priced for the location and able to dine in w aircon.

Came here on recommendation from a friend for authentic traditional food. Really friendly and helpful staff. Amazing food, everything was so tasty, definitely worth trying both the steamed and roasted chicken and the homemade drinks like the lime juice. Would come back again next time I'm in Singapore.
