namino is an experience in and of itself.
if you're here, you've got to get the seven color ikura don. the reasoning is: why get fewer if you're not gonna regularly visit here? i've been here twice (last time nearly a year before this review), and i kinda regret not getting the seven color don during my second visit.
the ikura was great, and to have the opportunity to try seven different types is likely hard to come by elsewhere. no, it's not mind-blowing and it probably won't earn three Michelin stars any time, but it's a wonderful dining experience that's bound to satisfy your curiosity.
did i mention you'll get to taste an 8th egg? you get a free raw egg, and you have two choices. personally, i prefer the egg from chickens fed yuzu peel (obvious hints of yuzu flavour), though the other paler one is rich and very nice too.
rice is a little mushy for my taste, though the soup was detectable. free refills for both.
the person working there was very kind too: happy to serve us and very accommodating with kids.
the store has a welcoming, cozy vibe.
4 stars out of 5: exceptional.
food is good, but it's the experience that's the main thing here: it's fun, and there's something whimsical about eating 8 kinds of eggs in one sitting. definitely worth visiting at least once.
edit: strong 4 (top notch) → 4 star (exceptional) — re-evaluated my opinion
