Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings - Westfield Montgomery

Great value spot that’s perfect if you put your name on the waitlist and do some shopping around Montgomery Mall while you wait. Despite how busy it was, the customer service was excellent. A special shoutout to the Korean server, he was incredibly kind, took the time to explain the menu in detail, and checked on us attentively throughout the meal. The food came out quickly, portions were satisfying for the price, and overall it was an easy, pleasant place to stop for a casual meal while shopping. Would definitely come back.

I was thrilled to discover that Nan Xiang, a brand famous in China for its soup dumplings, had opened a location at Montgomery Mall. It is also a Michelin star restaurant. On our first visit, we tried several dishes, and everything was freshly made and delicious. We'd read reviews warning of long lines, so we went for a Monday lunch. Even then, a line had formed before the 11 am opening. However, the restaurant is well-organized, and once the doors opened, service was smooth. A large kitchen staff was busy making dumplings, and waitstaff-occasionally assisted by robots-efficiently served the tables. The menu is clear and prices are reasonable, with portion sizes similar to tapas. All the dishes we tried were terrific, but we especially loved their famous Nan Xiang soup dumplings, truffle & pork soup dumplings, and durian puffs. It was a fantastic dining experience, and we look forward to returning to try more of the menu.

The place had been open for just three months and we heard about it from a friend and decided to try it when passing by. It was 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon and was packed and the wait was 30 min. After roaming around the mall where the restaurant is for a little over half an hour we were seated, service was quick and friendly. We liked particularly enjoyed the soupy buns, we tried the six lucky samplers and signature ones. The truffle ones and the gourd and shrimp ones are unusual and both nice. The scallion pancake with beef slices are tasty and so is salty soy milk. The interior is newly renovated and clean, we will sure come back.

I do like the ambiance and upscale feel to this new restaurant located in Montgomery mall. You have to enter the restaurant from their outdoor entrance and scan a QR code to be placed on the waiting list. When we went on a Thursday evening around 6:15 PM, there were 16 parties ahead of us. We did get seated around 6:45 PM, so the wait wasn't too terrible. Now for the food, it was just okay. We ordered the Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings and Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings. I did enjoy the flavors, but the wrapper kept on breaking when picking them up from the steamer basket. That was a bummer. We also tried their Cucumber Salad w. Garlic, Beef Tendon & Tripe in Spicy Sauce, Fried Pork Chops and Nan Xiang Fried Rice. The cucumber salad was good, but I would take a pass on their fried pork chops- there was zero flavor on them. I did like the Beef Tendon & Tripe in Spicy Sauce - that was one of their better dishes. My daughter enjoyed the Fried rice. Glad I was able to try this place. They will be busy since they are in the mall. But I will stick with Bob's Shanghai or Shanghai Taste whenever I have a craving for soup dumplings.

Food - Excellent. Soup dumplings were perfect. Filled with soup, with thin and tender wrappers. They might look similar to the ones from other places like Dumpling District and Ugly Dumpling but are in an entirely different league. Each dumpling flavor was very distinctive, which I liked. I wish I could have swapped the vegetable soup dumpling from the variety set out for the abalone, though - I know the abalone is more premium but I would have been willing to pay an upcharge for that. We instead ordered a full basket separately for the table (on top of our own personal variety sets) - no regrets there, they were delicious. Of the four baskets of dumplings we ordered (so, 24 dumplings total), we had two break, both from the center dumpling from two different baskets. So not perfect but pretty darn good. I MUST call out the pan fried buns as being fantastic. This is the first time I’ve had them in the USA with actual liquid inside (like they’re supposed to) - most other places have them with a slightly moist interior, but these actually had soup. This dish has suddenly gone from a never-order menu item to a must-order menu item for me. The chili oil they have is a bit oily (I prefer a crisp, with lots of flakes). I anticipated that though so I snuck in a jar from home. It was so good to drizzle that all over the buns. Atmosphere - Very good. I was surprised because I have been to a Nanxiang Express before but this was something else entirely. It feels like the Din Tai Fung restaurants on the West Coast, and that is a good thing. Pricing - Very competitive. The prices are in line with similar places, which is a bit surprising because the food is better and the atmosphere is more upscale. Food (various soup dumplings, buns, green beans) plus drinks, with tax and tip, came out to about $40/pp and I walked away very satisfied. Lines - This is the downside. There is constantly a long line and my party needed to wait 45 mins to get seated. Join the waitlist asap! Overall, I had a great experience here. Definitely one of my new go-to spots when I’m up in Bethesda. Easy strong recommend.

Soup dumplings are 10/10. Everything else on menu feels like it's missing the essence of Chinese cooking. To be more specific, wok hay (breath of the wok). I'm sure the ingredients are high quality and recipe is very authentic, but as a Chinese American foodie, the food tastes like it came out of a festival/carnival/street food. Everything was made with the right ingredients but it's missing the right proportions of said ingredients. Not enough oil, not enough salt, too much oil in appetizers, etc. Overall, worth taking friends over here, just not my Chinese mom/aunt Unless they want to go shopping at this mall.

I was excited to try this new dumpling spot since I heard it just opened. I tried to make a reservation ahead of time since it was the weekend, but there seemed to be an issue with their system and it wouldn’t go through. So I had to just show up and ended up waiting a long time to get seated. However, once we got in, the food was actually really good and everything came out pretty quickly, which I appreciated. The reservation issue and the wait weren’t great, but the dumplings were tasty enough that I’d go back again.

Ordered a number of dishes from the top recommendations. I found everything to be good and worth the price. I appreciated how the dishes tasted good without being overly oily or salty. The soup dumplings were very good and among my favorites in the area. We tried the Lucky Six assortment but in our opinion the signature pork flavor was the best by a decent margin. I would consider getting the truffle or gourd ones next time but would not get the other protein options over the signature pork. The only dish I probably would not get again was the scallion pancake. I prefer them to have more scallion flavor which this one lacked. Other than that, the wait time was long due to the popularity of the recent soft opening. We went on a Saturday during non peak hours (3:30) but the wait was still about 45 minutes. I would think this would go down over time. It wasn't so bad as we just browsed the mall until our time was up. Despite how busy they were, the dishes came out extremely fast and the service was overall pretty good.

The waitlist went by quickly and the food arrived just as quickly. Despite how busy the restaurant was, Carmen and Henry were very attentive with helping us make our experience all the better, in addition to providing us with forks and spoons when asked. The boba isn't too sweet, def an OG bubble tea taste with a harmonious mix of tea to fruit. I got the peach lychee bubble tea and it was refreshing without being too tart. Their crispy flounder was thoroughly coated in sauce while still having that crisp. The soup dumplings also had a perfectly thin wrapper while also being filled with so much soup. Tip: get the truffle & pork soup dumplings! If you're into that signature pork flavor with a hint of truffle, I'd recommend that. It has a bit more depth to the flavor imo. I definitely hope I can come back here for the breakfast options!

The food was amazing and the service was a 10/10. Will recommend and will come again.

The xiaolongbao were flavorful with rich broth, the steamed dumplings were soft and fresh, and the shizitou were tender and delicious. The service was also very good--everyone was kind and attentive. Great meal overall, and I'd definitely come back

Went on a Monday evening to avoid a wait and were seated right away. Their specialty is soup dumplings, started out in Flushing but now have various outposts around the East. They also have Chinese style breakfast dishes (served all day), cold and hot starters, noodles and classic homestyle entrees. Prices are reasonable. Service was very accommodating and friendly. Food was delivered to the table quickly (both by staff and by automated cart). We shared fried dough (yu tiao), vegetable soup dumplings, pork soup dumplings, cream shrimp, crispy flounder filet on sweet and sour sauce, and noodle in scallion sauce. The dough was crispy on the outside and more dense (less air pockets( in the inside . The scallion sauce noodles were perfectly cooked with fried scallions and a savory soy sauce. The shrimp was plump, creamy sauce was not too heavy. The fish filets were piping hot and in a crispy batter, coated with an orange sauce that wasn't too sweet, with a hint of tanginess. The star was the soup dumplings. The skins were firm but not too thick. The filling was dense and generous, with lots of soup in each bite. It was hard to pick a favorite among the 3 types of xiao long bao we tried. Will be back again to try other types of dumplings/dim sum and entrees.

Nan Xiang Express at Montgomery Mall is a great spot for catching up with friends. It offers a lively atmosphere and solid food, though perhaps not groundbreaking. The Good * Excellent Venue for Meeting friends: The restaurant layout and ambiance make it ideal for gathering with friends. * Excellent Soup Dumplings: The soul dumplings (presumably referring to the famous Xiao Long Bao or XLB) are a definite highlight. * Great Vibes: The atmosphere is enjoyable and adds to the experience. The Food Takeaway * Mainstream/Familiar: The overall menu caters to a broader audience, and relatively mainstream. Glad this restaurant is near by but it isn't Din Tai Fung.

Wow this place is paaaaaaacked! I went on a Saturday evening and the place had waits for over an hour. I noticed that the bar was totally empty though. So I went past the crowd and got seated there. I noticed it took a while to get noticed because the staff were running around -- understable, honestly. It also didn't look like there was a consistent bartender there, though. When someone finally came though, I was informed that I couldn't eat there and could only order drinks because of how crowded it was. The food court was right around the corner, so I didn't really mind, though I was going to miss my bamboo steamer presentation. I ordered a drink and was prepared to wait 45 minutes for my order, which I am thankful they gave a heads up about. I got the rainbow dumplings, hot & sour soup, and pumpkin cakes. My food surprisingly came in a half hour, so i was excited for that and made my way out. I found a table in the food court and started with the dumplings... they were very soupy indeed! Now, the soup did spill out of some before I could even bite, but wow wow was it delicious. I had never had hot & sour soup before, but it was spicy as I had hoped and I enjoyed it overall. Now, I've had pumpkin cakes before, so I knew I was in for a treat... and they didn't disappoint. I am glad I got to have this spot everyone has been talking about -- but I need to try and return at a time when they aren't crowded. It sounds like the hype isn't dying down anytime soon though, haha. We'll see!

There is one other pretty well known soup dumpling spot in the area aside from this place. I would say that this one seems to have more soup and is slightly thicker in the dumpling wrap, if we are just comparing soup dumplings. I also feel that the pork is not pink here Vs the other spot. So I would pick this place over the "other" for soup dumplings. However, I do feel that both places do get chaotic for wait time to be seated. I waited a little longer for my food here. I haven't tried the soup or other appetizers and main dishes, but willing to come back when there's no rush, or when it's a work day. I have tried the pork and vege dumplings in the spicy peanut sauce, and it was very nutty! The garlic cucumbers were pretty good too. We also got the Lucky 6 which is like a sampler. I would say try this if you don't know what exact dumplings to get. Otherwise, it was pretty good! I would give it a try if you haven't already.

Checked out the new Nan Xiang in Bethesda, and I can see why it's so popular. Even with a 1-hour wait on a Sunday evening, the food made up for it completely. What we ate: XLB Soup Dumplings Garlic Green Beans Shanghai Sweet & Sour Ribs Shanghai Udon Noodles Everything came out hot and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and will definitely be back to conquer more of the menu. Highly recommended!

Ironically, we loved everything we ordered except the soup dumplings. The Scallion Oil Noodles were subtle and delicious, and the Crispy Flounder Fish Filet with Sweet & Sour Sauce was full of flavor with perfectly cooked fish. We'd never tried Turnip Ham Puffs before, but they ended up being our favorite dish. However, the soup dumplings were a miss for us. The skin was too thick, and each dumpling was quite large, making them awkward to eat, especially with the small spoons provided. We'd rather stick with Din Tai Fung for xiao long bao. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and you can scan a QR code at the entrance to join the waitlist. Service was friendly and attentive, though they seemed a bit backlogged on soup dumplings. Ours (and those at nearby tables) came out way later than the other dishes.

Even though we'd heard about the long lines, Nan Xiang Soup Dumpling House was well worth the visit. We went for a Monday lunch and still found a pre-opening line, but the well-organized staff and efficient service-including robotic helpers-got us seated quickly. The menu is straightforward with reasonable, tapas-style portions. Every dish we tried was fantastic, particularly the truffle & pork soup dumplings, shredded pig ear with chili sauce, and durian puffs. As a brand famous in China, it lives up to the hype. We had a great experience and will definitely be back to explore more of the menu.

Alright, so LPT: get there 20 min before opening and line up in order to be the first seating group on the weekend. If you do not, and you think you can just show up right at opening, the line has already wrapped to the Macy's and you'll be left waiting for over an hour. We showed up at 10:40a and were the second group in line. I had a party of 8, and they WILL seat you without your group. Service: you will need to flag down someone for anything. There's no particular server for your table. If you need your check, you'll need to let them know. They come by to fill waters, and that's it. Food: we ordered a bit of everything. Scallion noodles, scallion pancakes, beef udon, chicken soup dumplings, pork soup dumplings, spring rolls, chive pancakes, veg dumplings, mango passion fruit drink, etc. Everything is under seasoned by a large pinchful of salt. Everything was underwhelming. Scallion pancakes weren't your typical doughy pancakes, they were puffy and crunchy. Most soup dumplings broke when you picked them up by the tongs on the top of the pleat. Plates come out one by one. They forgot one of our drinks. Some plates take a while to come out. It was highly disorganized. We were glad to have tried this place, but for somewhere that had such high ratings, so many locations and a Michelin rating, I was unimpressed.

Nanjing Soup Dumplings recently opened up at Montgomery Mall by the food courts. They have one of the best soup dumplings in the area. They have a variety of flavors: pork, pork and crab, chicken broth, black truffle, abalone, etc. So far, I've had the pork and also the pork and crab. Both were so good and had plenty of soup inside. The dumpling skin was thin, but didn't break easily. The fried dumplings were great too. The fried rice, stir fried rice cakes, and Shanghai style stir fried udon noodles were also really good. The stir fried noodles were my favorite of the three. The hot and sour soup is the best out of all the Chinese restaurants in the area. This one is actually spicy and sour, and not just soy sauce like the other restaurants. Service was great. My server Henry was attentive and helpful with picking dishes. I cant wait to return to try their other dishes.

Wait was ~2h on a Saturday night. Definitely busy but service is quick. Cucumbers & bok choy: cucumbers are crunchy. Both are lightly salted. These are good side additions to the main entrees. Tofu and celery: the tofu is very firm. This side wasn't for me but it may be because I've never had this before so I'm not use to it. Spicy wontons in peanut sauce: very peanut-y. I really liked these but if you're not a fan of peanut flavor, I would skip this. Pork soup dumplings were the best. Scallop ones were a close second with a very seafood-y broth. The crab ones were ok.

There was no wait at all, and we were seated right away! We ordered a nice variety to sample the menu: Lucky Six Soup Dumplings ($14.50) Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings ($12) Shanghai Siu Mai ($6) Cucumber Salad with Garlic ($8.95) Hot Soy Bean Milk ($3.95) The Lucky Six was fun to try, offering a mix of flavors in one steamer basket. But the standout dumpling--and the one we'd return for--was definitely the Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings. They were rich, flavorful, and easily our favorite. The cucumber salad, however, was a bit underwhelming. It lacked seasoning, and we ended up adding our own chili oil and vinegar from the table to give it more flavor. The Shanghai siu mai was also on the disappointing side; we could barely taste the shrimp and pork, so it's not something we would order again. If you're curious to try this new spot, a weekday afternoon is definitely the way to go.

I had seen numerous positive reviews and eye-catching social media promotions for this restaurant, so I was genuinely looking forward to finally trying their soup dumplings. With that build-up, I was hoping for a standout experience. While there were some highlights, the overall visit did not quite match the level of excitement or reputation. People began lining up about 15 to 20 minutes before opening on Sunday, and the line grew quickly. There were many servers working, but only one host was seating guests, which made the initial process slow. The staff were warm and attentive once we were seated, but overall the service felt disorganized. For example, the tap water with lemon did not taste good, so we asked for hot jasmine tea, only to be told that the hot water would not be ready for another 30 minutes. My chicken soup appetizer arrived over 30 minutes after ordering and was lukewarm and lacking flavor. Considering the restaurant has been open for over a month, I expected a smoother flow. The dining room also felt cold enough that we kept our jackets on. The soup dumplings were certainly the strongest part of the meal. They were freshly made, generously filled, and had plenty of soup inside. The seasoning was bold enough that I did not need any additional sauce. The dumplings were on the larger side and did not fit easily on the spoon, which made them a bit more difficult to eat. The wrapper was also thicker than at Din Tai Fung. We ordered the Lucky Six Soup Dumplings (six flavors), but the dominant pork/meat flavor made it hard to distinguish the individual variations like scallop or crab. On the positive side, the portion and pricing were reasonable and more affordable than Din Tai Fung for sure. Overall, it is nice to have a solid xiaolongbao option in the DMV area since there is no Din Tai Fung here. The restaurant is bright, clean, and spacious. For me, the dumplings were enjoyable but not worth a two-hour wait, particularly with the current service inconsistencies. Our experience did not fully meet the hype, which makes sense considering this is a "Michelin recommended" spot rather than a starred restaurant.

I think 4.75 is an accurate rating, and happy to round up to five! First, it definitely is all the buzz right now and the Michelin recommendation helps create a line, so prepare yourself; at lunch it took 34 minutes to get a seat, but it's not too bad, as you can wander the mall. We ordered the lucky six soup dumplings, the chicken noodle soup dumplings, and the regular dumplings, as well as the pork rice cake dish, shrimp rolls, bok choy, and meatballs. To say that each of these dishes were not five or above would be folly. My order of preference for the lucky six was pink, orange, black, white with the orange top, white plain and green. And all of the dumplings held until we poked them with our chopsticks to get at the amazing broth. Outstanding. The vibe in the restaurant felt extremely modern, very elevated, very hip, and the music complimented it, except for the one time there was a birthday and a raucous happy birthday song came loudly over the speakers, which was kind of hilarious. The .25 point removal, was for cleanliness, it felt like tables seemed a bit dirty, perhaps in the rush to turn them over, and simply doing a more tree thorough job of wiping things down would be great. We did have to move twice. Other than that, the service team was all phenomenal, Henry was so nice, and the food, the food, the FOOD. Outstanding! We will be back!

We have been to this restaurant four times but only managed to get a table twice. The first time, we decided not to wait. So we tried again on a Friday. There was still a long line. You scan a code and get on the waiting list. We waited... It took one hour. The restaurant changed the opening time to 11 am after the grand opening on 10/28/25. Okay, so we decided to show up early at 11 am on a Sunday. There was a long line already. We barely made it to the first seating; just one party got in after us. Despite how busy it was, the servers were always friendly and efficient. The soup dumplings are outstanding, definitely the star of the menu. I've tried various dumplings from different places over the years. The last time I was impressed was years ago in New Jersey. I can't even remember how long ago it was. We also tried several other dishes. The scallion pancake was excellent, and the red bean puffs were very good too. The seafood fried noodles were good, though I have to admit I've had an even better version at a place in Rockville that was a wow. I tried to order the sweet soybean pudding twice. But they were out both times, probably just too busy. I am a little disappointed. Soybean pudding is my favorite. Overall, this is a great place and definitely worth a visit. The wait really isn't that bad if you plan for it. Just make sure to scan the QR code to join the wait list. The restaurant is inside the mall, and you can easily keep an eye on your spot in line while doing a bit of shopping.

EXCELLENT. Everything we ordered are delicious. It was worth over an hour wait. I wondered if they take reservation in the future. Finally I found the ONLY Xiao long bao in the area that I truly love. I've never seen Xiao long bao w that much soup in it. Honestly, the truffle one is really special over here. pan fried one is fluffy nice bun. Shanghai shiumai is tasty glutunuous rice. Soup tastes great, didn't expect huge bowl. This will be my main reason to go to the mall from now on.

The restaurant was very busy when we came in on a Friday night. It is new so everyone is clamoring to get in. We lined up and waited our turn to see if we can get in quick there was only two of us. Luckily we only waited around 15 minutes to get seated. The waiting area was very tight. No seating are to wait on just standing. We got seated and we were given menus. We got what we liked and we were given just one dipping dish with ginger on it. I asked our server for one more so we can have one each but he never gave us one we waited and waited and he never gave us one more dipping dish. I was so confused why they couldn't give us one extra small dish so we ca ln each dip our own dumplings and not share one dipping dish. That was a bit of a head scratcher. Then the food came. It was good. We had the classic soup dumplings, pan fried noodles with seafood and spicy wonton dumplings. Everything was great, it was just very busy and we kinda felt rushed but because there was not a lot of tables and the servers are continuously looking at our table to see if we were done. We got our bill and i asked for a bag because we couldn't finish the food and the lady just left the bag and as i was saying thank you she just walked away. Not acknowledging anything. It was off putting but i guess that's how they do it.

Given this is popular and recently opened, be prepared to wait, especially at peak dinner times. We went at around 6:30pm on a Saturday, and the wait list had about 100 parties ahead of us. All in all it took us about 2 hours to get seated. Luckily we were not hungry yet and spent a nice time at the mall. In terms of food, the natural comparison for NX would be DTF. The skin on the XLB and dumplings are thinker, more doughy, and more chewy in texture than standard DTF. I don't mind it actually, but some might prefer a thinner wrap. They give you 6 dumplings per tray here, vs (maybe???) 8 at DTF but the size of each dumpling here is massive. Given that we don't have a DTF in the DMV area, I can see how this place would be popular. It's nice decor, nicely renovated, and clean. The classic pork XLB is nice, we tried the abalone one also. Couldn't taste the different in meat but the soup was rich. Because they're bigger, they do have a lot of soup and it is so good. Lastly, my ultimate fav is the pumpkin cake, chewy with a filling of red bean paste. One of my fav Chinese desserts and not many places have it!

Their dumplings bring all the aunties to the yard! And let's be honest -- no one is more brutally honest than an Asian auntie. So when I saw them showing up in their Sunday best, I knew I was in for a proper meal. Naturally, I had to try the pork soup dumplings -- they're labeled as a signature item, and honestly, if they didn't deliver, I'd have lost all faith. But fear not, friends -- they absolutely nailed it. PRO TIP: Use the tweezers to pinch the top of the dumpling and keep a spoon ready for a swift transfer -- because that soup inside? Pure liquid gold. One wrong move and it's gone forever, and honestly, that's a tragedy I'm not emotionally equipped for. The complimentary thinly sliced ginger are the chef's kiss to round out the perfect bite We also ordered the soybean milk with fried dough sticks, scallion noodles, and chicken in wine sauce -- all excellent, but the dumplings were the undisputed monarch of the meal. I left with a happy heart, a fuller belly, and a newfound respect for those aunties' impeccable taste.

There was a lot of hype leading to the opening of the new Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings at Montgomery Mall and I've now been there twice now - it's definitely a lot of hype and VERY LONG wait times! Stopped by late afternoon the first time and was told 20 mins wait for party of 8 (with 4 kids!) so didn't sound bad and 40 mins later was told we're "next", well we didn't get seated until 1.5 hrs! Second time, we joined the online wait ahead of time, otherwise the wait was similar for dinner. Wait time aside, the space is sleek and bright. Service was friendly and efficient, and the soup dumplings arrived piping hot but does take a while to come out. Flavors were good (tried all 8 kinds and got the Lucky 6 for the photo ops!), but the wrappers were a bit thick and the broth didn't quite have that richness I expected from all the hype - but still very solid. My favorites were the Truffle & Pork and the Crab Meat & Pork, very nice flavors! Pass on the Abalone & Pork, which tastes just like the classic but more expensive - can't taste the abalone or any seafood flavor. Spicy wontons were also good with some peanut butter in the sauce that was a nice addition to the flavor profile. The Kaofu cold appetizer was also very flavorful and a hit with the kids! The Chicken Stir-Fried Udon was a bit rustic and noodles weren't smooth, just ok. We also tried a handful of other appetizers and all were just ok. Their fruity green teas have a strong Jasmine green tea taste, maybe steeped a bit too long that gave it a sharp cooling sensation, and not enough fruity flavor. Overall, a nice option for a soup dumpling fix, but not quite destination-worthy yet.

Exciting to have a nan xiang here in the DMV! Restaurant is located in the westfields mall with its own separate entrance. We went around 12:30 on a Sunday, placed ourselves on the waitlist, and the host told us it would be 40min to an hour wait (57 parties ahead of us). The host way underestimated, as our wait time was closer to 2 hours. The kitchen may not have been able to service tables quickly enough, as when we sat down, we noticed many tables were vacant but not being seated. Food delivered fairly quickly after ordering And was overall pretty good. The pan fried bao was too thick on the dough though flavor good. The noodle soup came out soggy (restaurant graciously addressed). Our server James was attentive and nice. Still in soft opening so surely some of these opportunities will be addressed. Worth a visit, though probably not with a 2 hour wait.

The food here was so good--definitely Michelin star approved for a reason. So glad to finally have a Nan Xiang XLB in the DMV area. Interior is super clean, aesthetic, and minimalist. While the food was good the service was even BETTER! From the two female hostesses to our servers.... HENRY and JUSTIN were the BESTTT! So knowledgeable about the menu and always checked up on us despite being busy. All the staff provided top service even amidst a grand opening event that was going on. They even help you pack up the food. Highly recommend.. for family, friends, and dates!

Came here for lunch during the week with a girlfriend. Luckily, there was no wait so we were seated right away. We ordered: Nan Xiang Soup and Gourd Luffa, Shrimp, Pork Soup Dumplings, Chicken in Wine Sauce, Cucumber Salad w. Garlic, Shredded Pig Ear w. Spicy Sauce, Crispy Flounder Fish Filet, and Durian Puff. All the dishes were made to order so everything came out fresh. The soup dumplings were good - comparable to Bob Shanghai's soup dumplings. The rest of the dishes were mediocre. The flounder was mostly batter. I barely saw any fish in it. Comparing these dishes to Peter Chang - Peter Chang is definitely the better choice. I would recommend the soup dumplings and come back for these only.

4.5! 5/5 service - the waiters were attentive and helpful and everything came out fast 4/5 food - their nyc location sets a very high bar that this didnt reach but it was still good. my beef noodle soup broth was very yummy. not a huge fan of the noodles, they were a little soft for me. 5/5 value - the soup dumplings are $10 which is relatively cheap and the portions are big, noodles were about $10-14

Waited a looong time to get in prior to opening and in the rain. However they did have a QR code that you can check in to keep your place in line, go browse the mall and come back when your table is ready. This makes it uber convenient. I'd say the soup dumplings were pretty good and maybe worth the hype. Unfortunately their vegetarian options were gone in a flash so I didn't get to try it. I tried the other non-dimpling dishes on the menu and not too shabby. I always do like that they showcase them behind the scene making the dumplings. Will come back with other folks to try some more of the other sold out dumplings.

Went today and it was great! I have been to the flushing location and was super excited to see that this one opened near me. The food was great. The wait was about 40min at opening but we walked around the mall to waste some time. The service was fairly slow. Not sure if this is a case by case basis but we rarely saw our waiter. This was slightly frustrating because we wanted to order more. I would rate service a 3.5/10. It seemed like some people had better service than us. Food was 5/5!

Was excited for this place to open up after knowing how good the other one was. I enjoyed my experience here. I particularly enjoyed the truffle soup dumpling from the lucky 6 option! Service was pretty good and kind. As it is opening week, there was a long waitlist but people come in and out kind of quickly. The space is really clean and I like the interior of it with the light wood and dim lighting. Wouldn't expect a place like this at the mall but it's a good addition I think. Excited to try other foods later. I will say though I think the spoons are too small for the soup dumplings...all my soup be spilling off! The scallion pancake and the flounder were just all right but I liked the meatballs. I also had the Shanghai udon which I thought was just all right as well. Nevertheless, it was still good and I'll come again to try other options!

Henry and Quincy helped out us today and the food was amazing. We finally stopped by and enjoyed everything.

enry, I loved the Nanxiang - Henry! The skin was thin but didn't break, the broth inside was super rich and flavorful, and the pork filling was really tender and juicy. I also liked that they weren't too greasy, so you can eat a lot without feeling too heavy. Honestly, these are some of the best xiaolongbao I've ever had - totally worth the wait!

The presentation of the food was good. The skins of the dumplings as not too thick or not too thin. Their pork soup dumplings was very good. Their crab and pork dumplings had an overly fishy taste. like the crab meat wasnt very fresh. Their ribs are very good. The beef soup was ok. It lacked the flavored of certain spices like star anise. We went at the end part of lunch so the wait time wasnt long. Service was mediocre. The space was very spacious. The decor casual. They have a glass divider where you can see the staff making the dumplings. This is good for those who doesn't know how dumplings are made, even though the persons who were making the dumplings are not Chinese.

Came to Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings on a Sunday morning and it did not disappoint. We showed up right at 11, and there was already a long line waiting for them to open. Even so, we were seated in about 20 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad given how busy it was. I'm guessing anything after 11:30 comes with a real wait. I ordered their crab and pork soup dumplings and they were fantastic -- rich broth, perfectly thin skin, and piping hot. We also got the cucumber salad with garlic as a starter, which was super refreshing and a nice contrast to the dumplings. Our waiter, Henry, was attentive and checked in on us throughout the meal, which made the experience even better. Overall, great food and worth the line. I'd come back, but definitely plan to arrive right at opening if you want to avoid a long wait.

Ive been here 2 times and I can say that the quality has changed from the first time to the second time. I went during opening week and the food wasn't bad but the second time was not as good. If youre looking for a nice chinese spot to eat this place is great but if youre looking for something that will bring you to China this is far from it. The xiaolongbao was amazing. They were packed with flavor and a lot of soup. The shengjianbao on the other hand were not that good. They weren't wrapped in house and it just seemed like the frozen ones you can get at the chinese grocery store. The shumai, I can say, were authentic Shanghainese shumai, but they are worth skipping because they weren't anything special. The scallion pancake lacked flavor but paired with the dipping sauce was good. The fried pork chops had great flavor but some of them had a huge portion of fat still on it, which isnt appetizing. The fried dough sticks were the saddest thing there. They were tiny and not worth it. The noodles flavor was great but the noodles themself were just a touch overcooked. The only thing that was amazing and super worth it was the rice cakes. These blew me away with how good they were. My biggest complaint about this place was how long it took for the food to come out and the order of ehich it came out. We order 4 side dishes, which should have come out first but 2 of them were served afyer we finished our main dishes. The fried dough was supposed to be served with the soy milk but came out after the main dishes. And by that time the soy milk was already finished. This really annoyed me because I expect the small side dishes to come out first and after we finish it the main dishes. But everything came out so slowly and so spaced out that it just didnt seem right. I came here again to see if the quality stayed the same from opening week and I can definitively say that it has. I wont come here again because I dont think the service is good and with the food not coming out in order it really bothers me.

I loved my lunch experience here! The wait was about an hour on Sunday. My favorites were the soy milk, truffle XLB, and spicy beef cold dish! The dou hua (tofu pudding) was too soft and fell apart. Definitely recommend and cannot wait to come again.

We added our name and waited about 15 minutes. Service was prompt and friendly. The cucumber salad was fresh with garlic, crisp cucumbers, and thin carrot slivers. The beef and pepper noodles had great flavor and perfectly cooked noodles. The spare ribs were sweet but delicious, and the signature soup dumplings were fresh, hot, and tasty.

Went to Nan Xiang Soup Dumpling this past weekend with my family and let me just say that we greatly enjoyed our time there. Yes it is busy, i highly recommend if you come here make sometime for things to do at the mall because that wait will be a while. Service was great and speedy and they were able to accomodate my eleven month old. We ordered the lucky six soup dumplings as a variety pack of all their soup dumplings. (Crab meat & pork, truffle and pork, their clasic pork dumplings, scallop, chicken, and gourd luffa which is a vegetable that is quite similar to cucumber.) On top of that we got the Shrimp / Pork & Veg Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce, chicken & shrimp shiu mai, and pig ears. Kitchen ran out of alot fo the soup dumplings for the day sadly do we didnt order more. But from the lucky six, we really enjoyed the black truffle soup dumplings. The wontons were also a great appetizer and the peanut sauce really makes the dish. (Highly recommend!). The chicken shiu mai was okay, probably because the wontons and soup dumplings outclassed them. The pig ears were a nice little dish with a good amount fo spice, the texture of the pgi ears was great especially if you like chewy foods. Our time here was enjoyable, if you are ever heading to montgomery mall this place is definitely worth a visit!

New sit-down restaurant in the food court section at the mall. Weird they don't have an entrance inside the food court, but outside the building. Don't know who decided to do that. There is zero waiting area and everyone is by the entrance. Anyways, our server wasn't the greatest. He didn't help or guide us through the menu or offered any recommendations. When we received their soup dumplings, got one pork and one crab/pork, we weren't even offered the dipping sauce with ginger. What the heck! The dumplings itself were nice and plump and would eat these again and again. I did like the pan fried soup dumpling with a bao like bun and nice soupy dumpling. Skip the less sweet ribs, we barely ate it. The udon fried noodle with beef was good. Also why offer us a cocktail menu if they don't have a liquor license? I'll give this place couple more tries but still prefer Bob's or even Lanzhou Hand Pull Noodle soup dumplings.

Tried a handful of soup dumplings and all were juicy and tender. My favorite was the truffle followed by the chicken soup dumpling. Next we really liked the beef fried dumplings, great crispy outer wrapping. Will come back! Was busy but only waited 30min on a Friday dinner time to be sat.

This was our first visit, and overall the experience was okay. We waited about two hours and spent the time walking around the mall, which has a great selection of stores. They don't take reservations, only a waitlist, and even after receiving the "table ready" text, we still waited another 15-20 minutes before being seated. The staff didn't ask if it was our first time or about any allergies, and while most of the food came out quickly, the soup dumplings took around 30 minutes. We did really enjoy the noodles and the pork dumplings, though--they were flavorful and well-prepared. After we finished, a team member began clearing the table right away while we were still gathering our things, which felt a bit rushed. The ambiance was fine. I'd say it's worth trying at least once, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return.

Excellent food and service in a beautiful space adjacent to the Montgomery Mall food court. My friend and I stopped in for lunch and had the pork and pork/crabmeat soup dumplings. Both were flavorful and expertly prepared. Lots of other interesting items on the menu that I'm looking forward to trying. FYI, while delicious, the soup dumplings were not especially large or filling, so if you're a big eater, like myself, plan on ordering several dishes.

I think I may have just found my new favorite soup dumpling place! The xiao long bao here are soupy and very delicious! It's reasonably priced here too, and there are plenty of other items on the menu to try as well!

Nan Xiang is finally, officially open! I'm still rotating through their menu trying different dishes but my favorites already include the black pepper beef, the four happiness kaofu, the spare ribs (both Taiwanese and Shanghai), the Shanghai shumai and the chicken & corn dumplings. Always pick up so far but will try coming during the week sometime to dine in. Love the interior design (even though the layout is a bit awkward, especially the outside entrance). There's an adorable robot that delivers dishes which brings a smile to the kids.

We have been here twice, once during the soft opening and once after the grand opening, and to our surprise, the first time service was better but I'll talk about the food quality first. Pan-fried pork buns: the buns are fluffy, the fillings are juicy and there are lots of juice inside. The first time was a bit more salty, the second time was less salty but slightly sweeter, not a big deal to me. I think I enjoyed the latter more. 8/10 Fried rice: We only tried it once during the soft opening. My husband and I prefer the other chain's fried rice actually simply because to us, good fried rice is supposed to be a little drier (good dry), slightly crispier. The one at Nan Xiang I think they don't use the regular medium/long grain jasmine rice type but the short-grain type and the rice was wetter. The taste was fine but we prefer a drier texture. Chicken in wine sauce: First time was ok but the second time the wine taste was def stronger, which we like, so that is a plus. Ube red bean bun: both times were good. Both my toddler and I enjoyed them very much. Nothing to complain. Lucky six soup dumplings: I save the star for last. We ordered both time but unfortunately we only got to enjoy them the first time. The first time it impressed me with how thin the skin was but it was still strong enough to not break when I picked them up. The size was big and there was lots of juice inside as well. As for the 2nd time, after almost finishing 90% of the other dishes (20 mins), our lucky six set was still nowhere to be found. We checked with server 1 to make sure they didn't forget, he confirmed it was on the way. 10 mins later, we checked with server 2 and asked if we could just change it to To Go. She said yes. Then came another 10 mins, she got back and asked if we were ok to change our Lucky Six set to all Crab and Pork. Ermm, we were confused and she admitted the kitchen made a mistake. Well at this point we already lost our appetite so we just had to cancel the order. 45 mins of waiting to be seated + another 40 mins just to be told you needed to change your order because they made a mistake. I hope if we come back next time, the communication will be improved and they can just inform us what's going earlier to save everyone's time. We certainly got disappointed not getting to enjoy the soup dumplings. On a nice note, the staff made it up by giving us a free soy drink, which we appreciated.

Amazing!!! The restaurant itself is so spacious (plenty of seating, high ceilings, beautiful furniture and decor). The food was delicious and hit the spot. I think it's exactly what Montgomery mall was missing! All of the servers were very kind and helpful. Great spot!

This is my second time here and the restaurant is bustling. I was surprised by the consistency. Our server, Henry, was really nice and service was amazing.
