America’s Must-Try Regional Dishes

"The original 'stuffed' pie pioneer that doubles down on decadence with a second layer of dough beneath the sauce for an extra-rich, hearty pie." - Stephanie Gravalese

A Guide to Chicago-Style Pizza

"Rocco Palese and his wife Annunziata (“Nancy”) introduced stuffed pizza in 1971 after immigrating to Chicago from Italy. The style quickly grew in popularity, and Nancy’s remains king, with locations throughout Illinois and now across the country. Despite its growth, Nancy’s stays true to its roots, using the same family-owned farms today that it used 50 years ago." - Tori Allen

The place is now under new management. We ordered a deep dish (stuffed) pepperoni pizza and an antipasto salad (both were generous in size and good in quality). The restaurant appears to have been recently renovated, and the service was excellent. The only downside was that the restrooms could use a bit more attention in terms of cleanliness

We stopped by Nancy’s tonight for friends union and had amazing time. We all try pastas, my favorite was vegetarian pesto sauce fettuccine. We didn’t know they have full bar in the place. All cocktails and Italian beers were amazing.

Samir Katta

Google
This was really bad. The crust was still raw on the bottom, the cheese was the lowest quality, light amount of sauce, unseasoned sausage, and not a single piece of fresh garlic that we ordered. Plus this felt like it took a lot longer than your typical wait time even though there were no orders ahead of us.

Dieter Unrath

Google
I get that deep dish isn’t the best not fresh, but this just wasn’t good. Served lukewarm warm borderline cold right from the glass case.

Google
First time in Chicago, and I needed to try deep dish pizza. This place did not disappoint. Amazing apps, great drinks, wonderful deep dish, and lovely staff. My friends and I got the waffle fries with pesto sauce on top and the onion rings. If I were to pick a favorite, the pesto fries would win. I was trying so hard not to hog them 😂 Now I’m gonna be honest, I have no other deep dish pizza to compare this one to, but I was so happy with it. Full after one big slice.

Google
The owner always goes out of his way to make sure we’re happy. The slices are HUGE and under $7! The tomato sauce is sweet and tangy, definitely hits the spot. Please support this great neighborhood gem!

Google
Amazing place for good food! Love their new remodeling and friendly staff, especially the bar! Their chicken tetrazzini is hands down, like homemade from nana's kitchen and the portions are huge which you don't see that in restaurants, we had an amazing dinner there, definitely will come back

Google
Old school tavern athmosphere. We got the Lots of Meats stuff crust ("deep dish"), Party pizza ("supreme"), and a Hawaiian pizza. Super friendly staff, generous toppings. All of the pizzas have a cracker-style crust which can be polarizing. Otherwise, a positive experience.

Yelp
I already wrote a review. It was a while ago now. But I picked up a pizza and it was just coming out of the oven on time. I enjoyed it very much. Good price. Very good service. I'll be back without question.

Yelp
Thin crust done right! I love a good thin crust!!! Tonight I ordered a thin crust cheese and it was delicious and cooked to perfection. The crust was crispy and just melted in my mouth. I grew up on Nancy's stuffed pizza and their thin crust is just as delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
We had delivery from Nancy's twice. The pizza was consistently delicious! I loved how it was cut it squares. Reminded me a lot of my favorite pizza growing up in Cincinnati. The cheese was perfectly melted and browned. The crust was beautiful. It wasn't soft and gross and it wasn't hard and crusty. It was perfect. In fact, the entire pizza was perfect, which is why we ordered it twice in one week. When staying in a hotel for a week, sometimes it's nice to order in. We come to Chicago often and we'll order from Nancy's again!

Yelp
Not bad. Solid, neighborhood pizza joint. It seems like a mom and pop shop. I put in a pickup order. The folks who work here are super nice -- they offered to keep our box above the pizza oven so it stayed warm. There is a lot of space and chairs at Nancy's so I imagine it would be a good place for groups, but I am not sure if they are doing dine in at the moment. Worth checking before you go. The reason I put three stars is because the pizza is just alright. Pizza is pizza and I will pretty much always scarf it down, but I'm not sure this would rank in the top spots I have had in Chicago. That being said, I am glad Nancy's is around, and now I know of a neighborhood spot I can go support if I need to fill my pizza fix and am in the area.

Yelp
Ah Nancy's, bless you for existing and satisfying my late night deep dish pizza craving. I ordered a small a lot'a meat deep dish pizza and a meatball sandwich through UBEREATS. The order came in hot and packaged well. The pizza was flavorful and packed with a lot of meat! The crust was buttery and flaky, and the sauce was great! I love their meatball, but I wish there was a bit more sauce with it. The bread was soft nonetheless! I recommend this place if you're craving for deep dish around the area!

Yelp
One of the absolute best pizza places in the city! I was coming off a horrible week where my apartment caught fire and all i wanted was something comforting, like the perfect Chicago thin crust. And I was completely delighted to stumble upon Nancy's. Crust 8/10 - Nice and thin, crispy all the way through and it held its shape. Cheese 10/10 - THEY BROWN THE CHEESE. No undercooked globby mozzarella at this spot. Just absolutely textbook perfect. Sauce 8/10 - The perfect amount of salty, sweet and tangy. Definitely has a good black pepper ting. Toppings 9/10 - Every bite had an equal balance of fresh toppings and the Sausage was very well seasoned and it was the perfect crumbled size, bravo. I will be ordering from here for years to come!

Yelp
The best Chicago-style deep dish in town. The owners and staff are great people. I love this place.

Charlie C.

Yelp
Not the same as the chain. The chain version is actually good. The thin crust was generic and bland and $30 for an XL cheese pizza. It felt as if they gave me a pizza that was sitting in the single slice container. Will not be returning.

Yelp
NANCY..... I was headed here from the club. It was a great time, thanks for asking. I spent at least 20 minutes choosing my exact order... sausage, onions, bell peppers, and pepperoni... that sounds SO good. And I knew you would make it right. We called the Uber at 1:41 to arrive at 1:45 - .6 miles but it's freezing Nancy! To our dismay.... CLOSED.... Please update your hours for us out of towners. I hate to rate you poorly here so take my stars and fix your hours please

Shirley V.

Yelp
It's not "bad" pizza, but it's not as good as it used to be. They don't get your order right and sometimes skimp on toppings. Do yourself a favor, get a basic frozen pizza and add the toppings you like just the way you want them, top with more mozz cheese, and bake your own. It cost less and you'll always get what you want.

Mack J.

Yelp
The experience was soul raping. I couldn't imagine how anyone could ruin pizza, but now I don't need to. Any supermarket frozen pizza would have gotten 5 stars in comparison. We ordered 3 different thin crust pizzas, and they all managed to be tasteless and bland, including the 4 cheese pizza. The caesar salad portion was underwhelming, topped with stale bread croutons that were soggy instead of crisp. One server was passive-aggressive and repeatedly threw napkins on our table. The other personnel was very attentive: refilled our drinks, cleared our table, etc. Thank Chicago for another Nancy's pizzeria that gets it right! It was a mistake to come to Niles, thinking the establishment was related.

Yelp
We were visiting and we're wanting thin crust nearby . We had a long day at the ND football game and Nancy's hit it out of the park. 3 16 inch pizzas, two big salads and 6 sodas. Around $120. Was ready within 20 minutes. Everyone in our group enjoyed the food and we had leftovers for 7 hungry males We picked up the pizzas and believe we met the owners when we went in. They were super nice and helpful . Would love to have it again when we visit.

Yelp
What a VERY VERY VERY expensive waste of money. I was soooooooooo disappointed. I live on Belmont and Broadway and was hoping I can make this my new local pizza place.. NOT GOOD. A little Caesars hot and ready would actually be better. Sooooooo upset and let down. $59 between me and a friend to try to get a slice down and some breaded mushrooms. Two stars though for the amount of cheese. Even though it tasted like a very low quality cheese it was a great amount.

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because I wanted stuffed pizza and this hit the spot. --- --- --- My Dad lives a pretty sheltered life. Until our recent trip to Chicago, he'd never had a stuffed pizza, so I knew that I had to put an end to that. While doing research on where to go, I'll admit that there were a couple of options that had better reviews, but Nancy's was about .2 miles from our hotel, so we opted for that. I even called them ahead of time to let them know that we'd be dining in, but that we'd be eating a stuffed pizza. These things take about an hour to cook, so it was nice when we arrived and about 5 minutes later, the pizza was on our table. I've had better stuffed pizza, but this certainly was no slouch. I enjoyed every bite of it, as we watched Impractical Jokers on a small TV up in the corner of the restaurant. Outside of a customer coming in for a pick-up order, we were the only people in the restaurant throughout the duration of our time in here. Next time I'm in Chicago I might opt for another pizza spot, but this was not a bad choice!

Aaron P.

Yelp
Ordered two pizzas for take out. The worker was very friendly and our pizza was ready on time. Once I got home, i opened up the box and immediately knew this was going to be a good one. I got a sausage pepperoni thin crust and a sausage pepperoni mushroom pepper and onion thin crust. Note: I did not order the extra thin crust pizza but can't wait to go back and try! But the thin crust was perfectly crisp and airy. I would definitely recommend for a relatively well priced, quick and delicious pizza! Side note: When I went to pick up the pizza, the dining room was closed. It was a Saturday night at 6:30 so not sure if that is just temporary or not.

Yelp
If you think this is the same as Nancy's in West Loop, you're sorely mistaken. We live near Andersonville and wanted that amazing thin crust Nancy's offers but wanted something a little closer to where we live. This was definitely NOT it. The pizza was pie cut, which I've never had from a Nancy's before. The crust was chalky and gross. The pizza was just not good at all. Did not taste fresh. And we PICKED IT UP. Wasted $50 (and the time it took to drive and pick it up) on pizza that was basically inedible. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT GO HERE. Take the extra 10-20 min drive to the Nancy's in West Loop. BELIEVE ME.

Oscar E.

Yelp
Ordered a medium pan pizza. Pizza wasn't bad, but overpriced and small for what you get.

Yelp
We have been going to Nancy's for 40 years and the pizza is fantastic. The pasta is excellent and the salad was very good but we miss the great salad bar.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm normally not too picky about a simple cheese pizza with pepperoni, which is what my husband and I ordered for dinner (my attitude is normally: pizza is pizza), but man did this pizza miss the mark. Our pizza arrived on time, but cold and hard. It was rubbery in texture and tasted akin to a frozen grocery store pizza. Half of it was also burnt. The side salad was also somewhat of a joke. It contained yellowing iceberg lettuce, two tomato slices, a single pepper, and a few croutons. I've been to Nancy's before in pre-Covid times for a late-night slice of pizza and I remember it being edible then, however the key difference is that I was not sober at that time. My conclusion about Nancy's: maybe okay for a late night slice of pizza if you're drunk. Otherwise I would not recommend.

Yelp
We ordered a deep dish pizza stuffed with onion - best pizza I've probably ever had. It took a bit longer to make, but they warned us beforehand of cooking times and we were in no hurry. All the ingredients tasted fresh the staff was friendly and informative! I'll surely be stopping in here again
google avatar

Minal G.

Yelp
This is my potential to go pizza place. The staff is so so attentive, kind and respectful. I ordered the Bbq chicken extra thin crust pizza. The pizza was super fresh and the medium size is good enough portion for 2. The hiccup I faced was in the taste of the pizza. There was no marinara and bbq sauce instead. So, it got too tangy for my taste. Looking forward to trying a different pizza.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night for pick up wanting to try a new deep dish place in Lakeview and this did not disappoint! First off, there was only one person working and he was working his butt off answering calls and making the food- props to that guy! We ordered a deep dish pizza and he said the wait would be 25-35 min and since it was a little longer( maybe 5 min over expected time) he threw in a free liter of soda! He did not need to do that but we were thankful! The pizza was mouth watering and soooo cheesy! Will 100% be going back!

Yelp
This place hits the spot. I'm always satisfied when I go. Pizza is an 7/10. Never disappointed with the results and a solid thin crust pizza. I'm also very pleased with the pasta we got , linguini with shrimp and broccoli. The staff, which is always friendly and patient, recommended it and said it was of his favorite dishes. I added giardinera, and it was a really great idea. There was so much fresh garlic in the right and appropriate way. The entree also comes with garlic bread, decent, and a side salad or soup, unless you want to upgrade to something else. The fried zucchini is good as well. I prefer sliced, but Nancy's comes as sticks. You won't be blown away, but this place is a solid choice. Give them some love and attention!

Yelp
Love the stuffed sausage and mushroom. Honestly so much better than those chain competitors. Also, Thin is fast and legit! Fresh toppings. Next will be to try some pastas.

Yelp
The other night at 10 pm, I had a random craving for deep dish pizza. Obviously, I checked Yelp! Nancy's delivers, is reasonably priced, and has a good menu. I ordered the stuffed party pizza (sausage, green pepper, mushrooms, pepperoni, onion) with added pineapple. Total for the order was about $26 for the small pizza. The food arrived in a little over an hour, which was pretty impressive considering that it's deep dish, and it was a snowy night. The pizza totally hit the spot. The sauce was delicious - the perfect mix of salt, acidity, and sweetness. The crust was buttery, firm on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside. It also had the perfect amount of cheese in the crust. The fillings tasted fresh and the blend of all the different ingredients was perfectly divided. I had a taste of everything in each bite. The cheese was plentiful but not overbearing. Honestly, I'm not a big deep dish fan usually, but this pizza was really good and probably my favorite so far. It had an elegance that's often lacking in some of the larger chains, but it wasn't too foofoo. Of course, technically this is stuffed vs. deep dish, but they're similar enough where I think it's okay to compare. If you're into a new york style, they have that too. I can't wait to try that myself. Tasty pizza - what more can you ask for?

Michael H.

Yelp
Not really a fan, try to support the local businesses but there are so many pizza options and maybe it was just that pizza, but I've found other options I like more, within walking distance. For context, I tried the thin crust and it was pretty dry, can't speak for anything else

Brendan F.

Yelp
Nancy's pizza holds it's own with the best of the best pizza places in Chicago. I'm always searching for the best pizza in the city, and Nancy's is tied at the top with my other favorites. Both the thin crust and deep dish are spectacular. If you're wanting deep dish and haven't had Nancy's before, definitely give it a shot. Perfect amount of cheese and crust with a great tasing sauce. When I want thin crust, I'll alternate between the regular and extra thin. I've never gotten a pizza that wasn't great from here. Give it a shot next time you're wanting pizza.
google avatar

Chloe C.

Yelp
I was on the hunt for a good thin crust pizza. So glad I found this gem. It's affordable and great option if you're looking for a casual spot. I ordered a plain cheese pizza and I was pretty impressed. You know a pizza place is good when their cheese option is delicious!

Yelp
Only giving 1 star because I had to leave a review.. smh first off the pizza is over priced, arrive cold and with frozen vegetables not fresh, wings were salty asl, if you want your blood pressure threw roof then go right ahead.. the pizza arrived 2 hours after ordering & when called to let them know no one answered my call I think they had caller ID & wouldn't pick up smdh.. will NEVER ORDER FROM NANCYS PIZZA AGAIN!!

Caroline M.

Yelp
If you get a pizza with hardly no CHEESE on it to hold the sausage in place they don't want to happily refund you .I have been going here 10 year's. I called about the missing CHEESE on the pizza. They want you to give order number's if you don't have it no refunds for even half price even if you called within one hour of getting the pizza. Poor customer service. You bet I'm dropping off that just sausage pizza tomorrow ......

Yelp
Best spinach and mushroom stuffed pizza in Chicago. The whole menu rocks. So flavorful. Love this place. A real gem

Yelp
Hands down - our new favorite Chicago Pizza. We had my family in from Ohio this weekend and did a Chicago pizza "taste off". While most were sure that Lou Malnatti's would be the crowd fav, we were so pleasantly surprised with our newly crowned King of Chicago style pizza. Comments were that the sauce was incredible (well seasoned and thick), the cheese was more flavorful, and the crust wasn't just there to keep stuff in, it was also more complex that all 3 of the others (we did LM, My Pi & Nancy's). All in attendance were in agreement that Nancy's must be ordered again on their next visit. So thrilled that The Food Guy featured them in his news spot on Thursday night/Friday afternoon.

Yelp
I've lived in the neighborhood for quite some time and have never payed any mind to Nancy's Pizza on Broadway. That was a mistake! Recently, we had a stuffed party pizza from Nancy's delivered. Having tried other pizza joints in the neighborhood and typically being underwhelmed, our expectations weren't high. Surprise, surprise, the pizza was absolutely delicious! The crust was amazing (I typically dislike crust) and the marinara was outstanding. So delicious! Lesson learned. Don't judge a book by its cover. Highly recommended for stuffed pizza!

Elena Y.

Yelp
Got a small cheese pizza for takeout and it was solid! The women who answered the phone was nice and it was ready is sub 30 minutes.
google avatar

Nicola P.

Yelp
Grabbed two quick slices and enjoyed them both. One was cheese and the other sausage. Both were hot, fresh, delicious, and nicely priced at $3.60 each. I will be back to try the deep dish.....

Christine H.

Yelp
Ordered online at Lawrenceville location and received confirmation that order was in process. Order was to be delivered in 50 minutes. When order was not received after 70 min, called location to find out order had been canceled d/t delivery time greater than 30 minutes. Phone number they called was incorrect but no attempt was made to send an email notifying order canceled (email was correct) There was no indication of time/distance restriction when my order was placed. Extremely poor communication and lack of proper online order criteria. VERY DISAPPPOINTED!!!!!

Yelp
Surprisingly tasty stuffed pizza! I wouldn't recommend eating in the restaurant. Clearly, it's seen better days. When I visited, there was a corner table with a "Reserved" sign on it. No one ever came. We were the only two eating in the restaurant. Get delivery or carry-out. I ordered a stuffed pepperoni pizza and really liked it. The star was a zesty sauce. It was a combination of sweetness and herbs that made every bite awesome. My girl ordered an extra thin crust spinach pizza. I should have broken up with her right then. Predictably, it was just adequate. Nothing amazing. She looked forlornly at me and admitted my pizza was better. I like Nancy's better than Giordano's. Comparing it to Lou Malnati's/Pequod's/etc. should be disallowed since those aren't stuffed. * Bonus: Stuffed pizza leftovers tasted excellent after being reheated.

Yelp
Nancy's is great fare when it comes to Chicago style pizza. The atmosphere is that of a mom and pop Italian joint (and I wouldn't be shocked if it was authentically just that). We popped in for dinner and ordered a medium pie with pepperoni and garlic on half. The Half with the garlic had way too much garlic (it was overpowering) so that half of the pizza wasn't so great for me. The other half was delicious! It looks like they also sell by the slice, which is great for customers not needing an entire pie. Not the best pie I've had in Chicago, but definitely not bad, either. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what I've liked better in other pies... maybe not enough cheese? maybe too much marinara? Maybe the crust was different? Though, Nancy's was still delightful and the great service doesn't hurt either. Our waitress was very polite and never let our cups sit empty. Definitely a spot to check out if you find yourself nearby!

Yelp
This is by far the best spot to get pizza in Lakeview east. The sauce is one of the best I've tried in Chicago, they really do a great job with the spices. The place has a very comfortable atmosphere, you feel like you're at home every time. You can't go wrong with the thin crust, but the deep dish is surprisingly good, better than most. Plus, if you're not feeling like eating a whole pizza you can get a slice, they're always warm. Bonus points for being open late almost every day.

Jeff G.

Yelp
ordered carry out last night, a large, deep dish 'party pizza' with sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, delicious fresh red sauce. $38+ tax. very delicious; couldn't stop eating it.

Yelp
Nice service but I wish he warm up my pizza slices great flavor though will go back again

Yelp
This place is right by my apartment and I Really wanted to give it a shot. Ordered it at 630 pm on a Wednesday and Waited an hour to find out the were closed. Like why post hours if you are just gonna close anytime you want. I assume you need my business in times like these so that's too bad for you. Hope everything works out but it's Digiorno time baby! #ripjuice
google avatar

Jules D.

Yelp
Overpriced...good drunk food! I probably wouldn't get it again because of how heavy it was but it tasted great while I ate it. It will fill you up immediately. We went really late at night as well. It was just one of the few places open that night. Out of all of the deep dishes I've had from my time in Chicago this place rates in the middle I would say. I would definitely recommend to others to try though overall. The customer service was a positive experience. The pizza took longer than we were told t would take but the guy was friendly. Be careful not to eat too much but I think that goes for most deep dish pizzas!
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Love Nancy's! Best local pizza and best bang for your buck! The staff is super friendly as well!

Judy W.

Yelp
Ordered a family size pizza on Nancys website. Received a message my pizza would be delivered in 20mins. 10 mins later received another message my pizza would be delivered in 50mins. Pizza was delivered 90mins later cold and hard like a frozen pizza. I called Nancy's and the manager told me i shouldnt order online. I shouldve called Nancys directly.  Manager blamed the srvice for the late pizza. Worst experience ever and poor management. Wont order from here again. There are so many other pizza places much more worthy of my business. *Unsatisfied

Patrick R.

Yelp
The chicken tenders are so gross. Looks like calamari...and low quality, rubber chicken. Canned jalapeños. Tomato sauce is super sweet and odd. Hate to say it, but just disgusting food
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
I have ordered delivery from Nancy's multiple times in the past year. Their pizza is consistently delivered faster than the predicted time and tastes great. My fave pizza spot in the West Loop.
google avatar

Jesse S.

Yelp
Nancy's was delicious- whether it's at 6pm or 12am - even if theyre about to close, theyre happy to make a carry out for you (within reason - we were very friendly and would even have been cool with it if they couldn't. I wouldnt count on it. Be nice!!) Wonderful family business. Happy to give them my money any day

Yelp
We stepped in on a Wednesday night maybe an hour or two before table service was closed. We were greeted by the owner and were seated fairly quickly. We ordered our two usual dishes when we go out to spots like this: calamari and pizza. Note to future patrons, there are two types of calamari. We chose the calamari marinara. It was fine for what it was but we'll try the other calamari option next time. I assume that is the breaded and fried version. The one we chose was in a marinara broth. Once again, it's okay, but it wasn't to our taste. We chose thin crust and supreme style or "party" style as the menu described it (sausage, pepperoni and the typical veggies on top). It came out maybe 15 minutes after we made the order. Crispy, hot and tasty are the main descriptions I can share here. Come here for neighborhood pizza and enjoy a glass or two of wine. Great spot.
