I recently visited Peri Peri in Lakeview for lunch with my two young sons. A few days prior, we had won a coupon for a free sandwich, and the boys were very excited to redeem it. The food, as always, was tasty, and the rest of the staff was warm and welcoming. However, our experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the behavior of the manager on duty.
While we were waiting for our order, my boys each grabbed a packet of ketchup. The manager gave them a strange look, and when I politely asked if he wanted them to put the ketchup back, his dismissive response was, “They already took them.” I found this incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful, especially in front of two five-year-olds. It felt as though his issue was not with the ketchup, but with the fact that we were using a coupon.
As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I know how important it is to treat every customer with kindness and respect—especially when children are involved. When I’m teaching my kids manners and how to behave in public, I expect the adults around them to set a positive example. Unfortunately, that was not the case here.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as one person’s poor attitude can taint an otherwise great experience. We love the food at Peri Peri, but behavior like this makes me think twice about returning.
