The Independent Group Ate at Nando’s Before Fixing Brexit and Politics | Eater London

"A lunchtime visit by the newly formed Independent Group MPs turned into a source of amused scrutiny: attendees included Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger and Heidi Allen, and observers dissected what each ordered — Anna Soubry reportedly had chips and bottled water, Berger revealed a medium-hot pitta with pineapple plus corn on the cob and peri‑peri chips on the side, and Mike Gapes appeared to have had no dinner. There was also an entertaining mix-up when Umunna’s and Gapes’s 'sunset burgers' were swapped, and much of the chatter centered on which peri‑peri spice rating the group chose." - Guy Pewsey

Food was nice but our taste was more on the crisp side. You were crammed in, despite ending up with a good table on the balance of probability, the beers on draught are not full to the top nor is there sauces and sundries easily available compared to others. The food arrived quick and hot so fresh was nice. Good for a bite to eat. On a date or something special then go else where.

Great experience at Nando’s! The food was absolutely delicious (10/10 on taste) and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. Service was excellent, staff were attentive and friendly! The ladies' restroom was surprisingly clean for a fast casual restaurant. All in all, 10/10.

Google
Really good food but perfect service! They won my 5star review with their welcome. You feel a warm hospitality that you don't meet around London. I know few things as I m a Greek owner of a restaurant in Crete. Thank you team of Nando's in Victoria!

Good place that’s walkable from Buckingham Palace. Has quite some options for vegetarians. Food was healthy and light.

Great experience dinning here for a cheeky Nando’s lunch. Staff are all super friendly and the food came out quick and freshly cooked. No qualms at all, the location is nice as it’s quietly tucked away from the main road.

This was my first time eating at Nando's. We were a group of 4 people. We ordered the 2 whole chicken with 5 sides. One chicken was Lemon & Oregano and the other one was Peri Peri flavor. The fries were very good, the coleslaw was ok, the fried rice was ok, the Garlic bread was also good. The atmosphere was casual fast food but inviting space for customers to sit, talk, and eat. We were there for almost 2hrs. We had a great time!

Great with food allergies! The manager of this restaurant had a peanut allergy herself, so it was very reassuring to eat here! The food was delicious and we’ll definitely be returning.

Google
The food is good but all sauces are so sour I guess it’s kinda Nando vibe?, first time try Nando. I think here it’s a good place for first try! Cos it’s better than any other fast food place. But I have to say the price seems a little higher than usual store

Yelp
This casual dining restaurant offered a laid back ambiance and a variety of sauces to tickle your palette. My friend and I stopped in for a quick bite, and had out food at the table within ten minutes of arriving. Nandos had various vegetarian options, which I'm always very pleased by - if not a bit overwhelmed because it is soooo rare! I chose the chicken wrap upon a recommendation from staff between two items that had caught my eye. The texture was great, meaty and crispy, but it did need some sauce - good thing they are prepared haha! I preferred the Peri Peri Sauce, the Garlic, and the Hot! My friend had French fries with her meal, and they were thick and crunchy - perfect for dipping in some sauce as well. While I had initially visited due to the reputation the Niall Horan had gained this restaurant (and it'd proximity to me when I was hungry) I would return for the great vegetarian options and sauces!

Yelp
Nandos is such a treat when we're visiting. The staff is very friendly and the food is hot, fresh, and delicious. We enjoyed the chicken and all the sauces you can choose. The vibe of Nandos is a cute and casual restaurant with yummy food for a quick bite.

Yelp
Tried this for the first time and it did not disappoint! Ordered the four thigh meal with broccoli and fries and a side of corn as well. It was fantastic!

Yelp
I'm from the U.S. and finding good Peri Peri chicken joints is a little rare (the one place near me sadly closed)... so my opinion is biased based on that fact alone. Still, the food here was amazing. AMBIANCE Pretty casual place in the middle of downtown with booths, self serve soda, plates, utensils, etc. I enjoyed the warm color scheme. First they seat you, then you order at the counter. If you're a large group expect to wait especially at lunch hour. They warn you that food takes a bit to prepare because it's all made fresh (25 min), but all good things take time. FOOD Our party of 8 got 2 jumbo platters with mild spiced chicken, PERI-salted chips, regular chips, and spicy rice. The chips (fries as we call them in the U.S.) were probably some of the best chips I had during my visit... especially with the PERI salt. Rice was also good, although not really spicy... very mild with no kick, but still flavorful. The main star here was the chicken - juicy, tender, and flavorful. I LOVED my piece of thing... it's so tasty and perfectly grilled. It had a slight kick, but it was flavorful... musical is the best way to put it. It's not spicy for the sake of being spicy, it just tastes good. Even the white meat wasn't too dry. In addition to the marinade already in the chicken, they have sauces in bottles that you can add to your meal. I kept adding their garlic Peri-Peri on my chicken and chips, which gave it a great flavorful kick. I also tried the chicken livers & Portuguese roll... while the texture bothers me, the flavor is actually quite good! It's a charred/smokey flavor like the regular chicken but it lingers longer. I think it goes better with the spicy rice than the bread they give you. SERVICE Props to the host for trying to find seating for our group of 8 - not an easy feat during lunch hour. He kept us informed and even seated half our group so that we could start ordering, since he anticipated a family being done. However, they tried to squeeze us on one half of a long booth by the time our food arrived. But once a family behind us left and freed up the entire booth... the staff helped us move our plates, food, etc. Seriously, great service! Overall, great place to eat while in the U.K. (they have locations all over)... I'll definitely try to hit up a location next time I'm in London. This one is conveniently within reasonable walking distance to Westminster Abbey, and there's a lovely (free to visit) cathedral across the street as well while you're in the area.

Yelp
09/10/17 This is a chain restaurant which originated in South Africa. Their specialty is Portuguese chicken made with various Peri-Peri marinades or sauces. Nando's operates in over 30 countries now. There signature dish is the all natural Peri Peri chicken. Marinated for 24 hours flame grilled to perfection and basted to your liking. They serve chicken in quarters, halves, whole and butterfly breasts. They also serve burgers, wraps, salads, pitas, and wings. A couple of other items that vary. Their sides include spicy rice, coleslaw, garlic bread, chips (fries), creamy mashed, corn on the cob, macho peas and salads. Peri-Peri is a chili found in Mozambique. The are varying heats to the different sauces from mild to super spicy. They also have a variety of desserts. Nando's logo is the Barcelos Cockerel and symbolize faith, justice and good fortune! All of which each restaurant wishes upon their patrons in abundance. The Barcelos Cockerel is one of the most common emblems of Portugal. So now you know what the Barcelos Cockrel looks like. It took awhile to figure out how to order. You walk in, the hostess seats you at a table and places a number on it. We had to watch several others ordering to see what we were supposed to do. Our waiter did not ask us if we had been to Nando's before or if we had any questions. That would be a great thing if they asked is this your first time? That way if it is they can explain it. Then you are suppose to go to the counter and place your order. They will ask what your table number is. You pick up your plates and silverware. When your order is ready they will bring it to your table. Don't forget to get your sauces and the check the heat of your sauces and dressings. My son wanted to come here as he had heard about it in the USA. So we decided to go with a family platter. We got a two different flavors of chicken, garlic bread, mashed potatoes, chips (fries), and coleslaw with drinks. We tried the lemon and herb and medium. This was by far the cheapest meal we had in London. We got a lot of food. The chicken was juicy and tender. The sauces were like nothing I could describe. The chicken was tasty, the chips flavorful, the coleslaw and garlic bread were good. All in all a great bang for you buck or pound (As American's say). We don't have a Nando's in Reno, NV. USA where I am from. I did however, find the sauces in a local grocery store called Raley's. Tonight I made a yummy Kale soup with Garlic Peri-Peri sauce. If you don't have a Nando's see if a local store carries the sauces. If you do have a Nando's and eat there frequently you may want to sign up for their Nando's reward card. You get a rewards chili every time you spend 7 Pounds. You do need to use your rewards chili's within a years time. For more information go https://www.nandosperiperi.com/card/how-it-works There Peri-Peri sauces include Lemon and Herb, Garlic, Medium, Hot and Extra Hot according to Nando's it's like eating a fiery dragon. Don't forget to checkout their website for recipes!! Awesome. All of the employee's at this restaurant were kind and professional. Restaurant was clean and loud as it was crowded at lunch time.

Yelp
It was my first time in London and everyone was telling me I had to check out this place! I'm so happy I did.. it did not disappoint at all. We were a large party of 7 and sat right away, which was awesome. They were extremely busy too so we were all so thankful to be sat so quickly. Everything that was ordered was so good! I can't even tell you, so flavorful, all the sauces on the table are a MUSTTTTT TRY! I'm super impressed with how delicious this chicken was, I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
This was a big surprise hit with my husband and I on our frist trip to London (and now I'm sour because there aren't any restaurants in California!). I had heard this was a popular chain for locals so I thought we should hit it up. The first night we went here it was packed and there was a seating issue. The guy at the door would write some names on a waitlist and tells others, like my husband and I, that we didn't need to put our names down. But then of course we never got put at a table and people who arrived after us were higher on the waitlist once we actually got our names on it. Some other people waiting even agreed that we should have been called and that the whole waitlist thing was a mess which finally got everything sorted. Another waiter came and apologized excessively to us and got us seated right away because the other issue was there were open tables and the first guy wasn't filling them! Once that was fixed we had a great dinner here and another perfect dinner on a second night because we couldn't get enough of the food. A key thing to note is you get your table number, figure out what you want to order and then go up to the register to place the order yourself. Then the food is delivered to you. I knew this from hearing about the place beforehand on Youtube but it's not advertised anywhere or explained by the staff when you are seated so I saw a lot of people wait at their tables for a longgggg time in confusion. What I loved most here were the sauces that you can take to your table. The chicken dishes are flavorful on their own but the sauces really add a great kick. My husband said if we lived in London we'd probably eat here once a week at least and he's right.

Yelp
If someone asks me what was my most favorite place in London, I would say Nando's! Even though this is a chain restaurant and they serve Portuguese food, I love it all! I didn't spend a lot of time in London and of course fish and chips are delicious, but a way to my heart is good chicken wings and of course wine! This restaurant is half self-served. (I figured that out by observing around and seeing what others were doing.) Once you step foot in the restaurant, the hostess will take you to a table and you look over the menu before ordering your food. You then walk up the front counter and place your order. Make sure you know your table number because that is how they know where to deliver your food to your table. You also pick up your own plates and utensils. If you order drinks, you can refill your drinks yourself as much as you want! I ordered the wings platter which comes with 4 small sides or 2 large sides. The price is reasonable and the portion is huge. I like variety so I chose 4 small sides. I got the spicy rice, cole slaw, chips, and salad. I love the grilled flavors and spices on the wings. Make sure you get different sauces to dip your wings in. I like the lemon herb, mild, and hot sauces. It was so delicious and I was totally stuffed. They also serve beer, wine and soda. I got a bottle of wine to share and the wine was a good price and tasted very good.

Yelp
British food is not very good! This was a great option! I luvd the grilled chicken and the assorted vegetable options so it felt a bit less like a fast food chain.

Yelp
After a late tour of the Houses of Parliament, I decided to come to this Nando's which is located fairly close to Victoria Station in Cardinal Walk, after struggling to find here I was eventually directed here by a local. This Nando's branch is really small and can get packed easily, and it might take slightly longer to get your food even later on in the evening, one thing I found to be interesting was the fact I ordered my food to table 17 at 7:17pm and it took 17 minutes, and this place is located at number 17 Cardinal Walk, and my birthday is the 17th of the month. I ordered my usual Nando's order, it was priced at the same level as Manchester stores and others I have visited with a Chicken Butterfly and two sides costing £11.30. The store did seem very busy and the amount of tables and size of the store just felt cramped, and with it being in such a central, busy location it really should be busier with the ability to be able to maintain quality when it does get busy, which being in Central London is quite often. My food quality was poor, the rice tasted quite hard, perhaps like it has been frozen, the chicken was barely satisfactory and the same could be said for my chips. They did have the large cool pepper grinder which I liked, however like many branches they didn'r have many of these. The staff didn't seem too friendy which was a shame, and the store was tightly packed into such a small space when it really should be bigger, to the point where if I wasn't as hungry as I was, having not ate since Breakfast, I would have walked out but had no choice. Issues with the staff, overall feel and quality of food simply can't be redeemed by pricing which is matched by Manchester, hence sadly warrants a single one-star rating.

Yelp
Cheeky! First trip to London and first trip to Nando's. This place was amazing! Fairly easy set up. First you must wait to be seated and then you go up to the counter to order/pay for your meal. Plenty of sauces to choose from. My favorite one was wild herb peri peri sauce. They also have them available for purchase. (Yay) I ordered the butterfly boneless chicken, wings, and three sides. Everything was juicy and flavorful. The sauce is the highlight of this place; don't be shy to mix and match them. This place was so good that we ended up coming back during our week-long trip. We also brought home a box of sauces.

Yelp
Nice chain restaurant that serves portuguese chicken. They seat you, give you a menu, and then you go to the cashier and order and pay for your meal. They'll bring it out to your table. I ordered a medium chicken wrap over here with spicy rice as a side. I'll remember to order a larger size as the portions anywhere outside of the US tend to be smaller. The chicken was juicy and tender. Whatever seasoning/marinade they use really flavors the chicken pretty well.

Yelp
I had never heard of Nando's. While visiting London on a business trip some of the people at the company I was visiting were calling in a Nando's order. I decided to join in and pulled up the website to order my own. The website wouldn't let me use my US phone number, which was annoying, so I just put down someones number I was visiting...now that I think about that, I didn't ask them and I wonder if they get texts from Nando's. I decided to go big on my order. I was hungry, the menu looked good, and the cost was reimbursable, so why not? The price was good, certainly less than some of the other places I had gone. Nando's has chicken and a variety of sauces, I like spicy food but everyone there told me that Extra Hot was unbelievably hot, that only a spicy food God could eat it...their menu says it's like fighting a fiery dragon...so I wimped out and went with Hot. I did get a bottle of Extra Hot on the side though. Overall my order was Hot Butterfly Chicken, some hummus, some Peri-Salted Chips, some spicy rice and a peri-peri chocolate brownie. It came out to around 18 pounds. I walked over, waited in line a bit, and then picked it up and walked back to the office. The food was good and there was a lot of it. Starting with the hummus, it was only okay. I won't order that again. The chicken and fries though were fantastic. The peri-peri seasoning was really good. The chicken wasn't spicy. This is when I realized that people in the UK don't seem to have much of a spice tolerance. Up to this point I hadn't had anything spicy that I could think of. So I poured the extra hot sauce all over the chicken and went to town. Everyone in the office was amazed. People walked by me just to verify that I was actually eating Extra Hot. Hours later I could hear people talking about it. People were amazed. It really wasn't that hot. The spice was unique though and it was definitely very flavorful and good. Good enough that I'm now ordering a set of Nando's sauces for myself. It wasn't even close to some of the salsas and sauces I'm used to though. No where near anything with a habanero in it, even in small amounts. One of the best things I overheard was, "And he took a bite and said it wasn't very hot!!", another good one was, "His first time having Nando's and he went straight for extra hot!!" Sadly I only had a carry-on with me and couldn't take my hot sauce home with me due to liquid restrictions. I left it in their fridge to remember me by. I would not be surprised if they still talk about it to this day. Overall it was an excellent meal, I even went to another Nando's for dinner that same day. Yes, it's a chain, but once you're sick of the excellent Fish and Chips you should try this out.

Yelp
Love this branch. I was queued for maybe 5 minutes and the food was with me 10 minutes after.. This is what I call service! Food wise.. Nandos is the place for chicken and damn they didn't disappoint. I ordered the quinoa salad because I was off to the gym after work and it was delicious. The sweet potato was in cubes, mushy and melted in my mouth! The salad was super fresh, and I definitely didn't regret my choice. If I had to criticise - must I - the chicken could have been slightly hotter, so it's was piping hot when I got it! Aside from that tho, damn that was one hella of a nice gym prep meal! Yummy!

Yelp
Nando's is always quick, cheap, and reliable. If you haven't been, you go up to the counter to order and then take a seat. They'll bring you the food once it's ready. Nando's is a chain, but I still love it! I've been to this location the most, and it's always good! I tend to order the quarter or half chicken, with 2 sides (either the peri-peri fries, garlic bread, or corn). Make sure to grab some of the sauces by the utensils and enjoy! If you'll stop by any of the tons of Nando's all around the city, make sure you get a loyalty card. If you spend over £6, you get a stamp. Earn enough stamps and you can get free chicken!
google avatar

Prisca H.

Yelp
Ordered a meal platter, which included a whole grilled chicken, 2 sides(peas and fries), 4 pieces of garlic bread, and 2 drinks for about £20, which feed the 4 of us. The chicken is marinated for 24 hours in periperi (hot) sauce, and that's what makes it good! There was mild to extra hot, lemon herb, and mango lime to choose from. We got the medium and it wasn't "weak sauce", pun intended. Additionally they also had side sauces to dip your chicken and those were flavorful too! Decor is modern rustic and warm. Food is served on light weight rustic ceramic dishware, which added more to its charm. However, the restaurant is loud and busy during lunch hour. I'd highly recommend the chicken!

Yelp
With Nandos, what you see is what you get. In this particular Nandos, I went as a group of five and we were promptly shown to our seats. As I had some points on my Nandos card, I got my half a chicken with spicy rice and the sweet potato wedges. All were very good, the chicken was cooked particularly well and it was the first time I had had the sweet potato wedges and I thought that they were pretty tasty. But at the end of the day its Nandos. You know what you're in for really!

Yelp
Nando's is everywhere in London. It's fast casual, family-friendly and serves up pretty tasty and healthy food with grilled chicken being the main item for about 10USD. The chicken here is moist and juicy, but kind of bland. The skin isn't particularly flavorful, so you're relying a lot on the sauce. The many peri peri sauces (lemon, garlic, herb, hot) are good, but all were pretty spicy. The chicken plate entrees come with sides. The coleslaw was very heavily dressed, and the spicy rice was not that spicy (just yellow rice). This was when adding the peri peri sauce was pretty good. The restaurant setup is super confusing. When you walk in, you are greeted by a staff member, and they seat you at the table and provide you with menus. But then they never come back, because you are supposed to remember your table number and then go order at the counter.

Amil H.

Yelp
Great chain. It is a must try if you are in London especially when there isn't much more to try besides pizza and Indian food. Very clean restaurant with great family options. Their chicken was cooked perfectly and the sides options they have are a great addition to delicious chicken.
google avatar

Yelp
I tried one of the locations in London and was impressed by the quality and service. I had a double breast meal with medium sauce (added the garlic sauce, good choice), sweet potatoes and super food salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly and I really liked the salad (an upgrade, not part of the two sides that come with the meal.) The salad was composed of grains, beans and feta cheese with a light lemon dressing. I think my meal and drink came in around £15, but I had enough left over for another meal and it reheated well. That's a good deal in my book.

Toan N.

Yelp
Nando's chicken was probably one of the better place for food in London. The chicken taste very good, and the sauce selection is awesome. The spicy level is off the chart. The only reason I give it 4 star instead of 5 star is the food portion. I had to order a whole chicken to even be satisfy. I don't know if this is a England, or only London thing, but the food portion is quite small. Anyways, Nando's chicken is a must try if you are in London. Beware of the spicy sauce cause its quite hot. The other food that is a must try if you can find it is the Meat Pot Pie with Bone Marrow (my favorite food to eat in London trip).
google avatar

Bethany S.

Yelp
I'm impressed with how many veggie options Nando's has considering that it's a chicken wing place. It would probably get 3 or 3.5 stars if it weren't for that. I got the Beanie Wrap with Macho Peas. I liked the Beanie Wrap, but wasn't a fan of the peas with mint and parsley - it was one of those rare occasions when I took two bites and couldn't eat any more of the side. Our table (a group of coworkers) got the Altogether Now appetizer platter, which includes houmous, pitta, olives, and red pepper dip. It was a delicious selection, and probably my favorite part! I couldn't stop snacking on what was left throughout the meal. The main drawback to Nando's, for me, is that there's not much service. You order your food and drinks at a counter, and then someone only comes to your table to deliver the food. If you want anything, you have to get up and get it. Not a huge thing, but the kind of food they serve and the style of the restaurant isn't just take-away/fast food, and it was a bit of an annoyance to me. But I enjoyed my lunch here overall.

Mcguy 1.

Yelp
Everything is good it's a really unique experience and I think you should go because Anand is one of the best places in the world. It is super fast easy to order and sauces are really getting intellect any that you want. The whole experience something that is very enjoyable and I would deathly recommend to a lot of people. This is one of the best places

Yelp
If you've already had fish&chips and Indian, try Nandos. Their chicken is flame-grilled, and the chicken thighs I ordered were juicy and perfectly cooked with the peri peri sauce at medium level of spicy. This place is casual with friendly service and reasonably priced at around $10usd for a plate with chicken and 2 sides.

Mark C.

Yelp
Grilled chicken is a healthy and tasty choice so there really isn't much that could go wrong here! Seasoning and flavorings are pretty good, and the sides are decent.
google avatar

Hannah R.

Yelp
Great place to go if you need something fast for lunch or dinner. I tried both the chicken wrap and chicken Caesar salad. This was the best service we had on our entire UK trip as well.

Christopher A.

Yelp
First time visiting Nando's, while I travel through London for the second time, and I'd love to say for it being a Franchise and a popular choice to eat for many of then people who live in London, it lived up to the hype tho it wasn't perfect I can say it was close to it. One thing I must compliment about it was he medium peri peri sauce that I was able to add on my chicken the chicken breast butterfly where it comes with two small whole breast, along with garlic bread and spicy rice (which wasn't spicy at all) which was. A part of the two side meal was an excellent first choice that will make me want to come back in the future during my future travels to London

Yelp
My 17 year old son wanted our family to eat here during our stay in London. Honestly, I had low expectations of this "chicken place". As it turns out it is very, very good! The wait staff was friendly and helped explain all the food options as well as the ordering procedure. My husband ordered the hummus appetizer- yum!My daughter and I got the chicken thigh burgers (comes on a nice roll with cole slaw too) and chips. Really enjoyed the flavor of their signature Peri sauce and tried some of the other sauces on the side. Each unique and flavorful. Chips were warm and crisp and stayed that way throughout the meal. My husband and son got the 1/2 chicken extra (spicy) hot and they enjoyed every bite! We hope to come back. I want to try the chicken wrap!

Overcrowded. A run-down place frequented by over 50% of disgustingly drunk people. At 7 PM. On a weekday. Staff unable to cope with the amount of people/orders or keeping standards and cleanliness at an acceptable level. Avoid.

Yelp
First time at a Nando's and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Quick service an polite staff made it a good experience for our group. Would highly recommend, and just found out we have these back in Calgary!
