The D.C.-Area Restaurant Openings You Should Know About This September | Eater DC

"A new H Street arrival serves Indian and Nepalese comfort foods from sizzling tandoori meats and rich curries to momo dumplings and a bone-in goat biryani. Owner Nabin Paudel’s opening lineup leans classic and hearty." - Tierney Plumb

With the goal of supporting newest local businesses along H Street NE, a friend and I did a lunch crawl on a Thursday afternoon. Out of the four spots we visited, Nanglo was one of our favorites. Here's why. 1) Food: The menu focuses on Nepali and Indian food with many options. To feed two of us, we ordered the Nanglo Set for Two for $48, which was a great price for the amount of food you get. (It can feed three people.) It comes out on a platter is the best representation of food from Nepal according to our server. It's chicken heavy with chicken wings, chicken on the bone, biryani with chicken, etc. However, there are a few other dishes like potatoes with an incredible sauce and more. Everything had incredible spice and flavor and was well prepared. 2) Space: It's large with many tables, booths, and a bar. 3) Drinks: The Nanglo Set for Two comes with two mango lassis that were delicious! I'd go back just for that! Overall, we LOVED Nanglo!

The most authentic Nepalese food in DMV area! Momo was juicy, perfectly cooked, and so delicious that it didn’t even need achar. I also loved how they cooked C momo in home made tomato sauce instead of ketchup! Everything was so perfect! Will definitely be back even tho I live in a different state hehe PS everyone should try their mula ko achar i can bet on the taste and authenticity of it

Great spot with Nepalese and Indian food on H Street! Well managed with extremely friendly and courteous staff. Food was excellent and as someone well versed in Nepalese cuisine - this was spot on! We tried the buff suketi, goat sekuwa, mustang aloo, and both chicken and buff Momos! Our only request was a bit more spice/heat on the sauces. But the owner brought us green chiles and a spicier sauce to supplement to our taste! Getting their liquor license soon which will make this place an even better night time spot for a bite and drinks!

We had such a great experience at Nanglo Restaurant! We ordered the Nanglo Set for Two (Non-Veg) that includes two mango lassis, which was perfect for trying a little bit of everything at such a reasonable price. The cheese naan was stuffed with melty cheese and so delicious, the masala tea was excellent, and the complimentary dessert was a sweet and yummy bonus. Tika and Kamal gave us outstanding service—friendly, attentive, and very kind. They really made the meal extra special. Highly recommend this restaurant!!

We went during the soft opening. Tried a bunch of dishes including buffalo momo (the version we had was in a soup, but there were multiple options), chicken 65, chow min noodles, and goat sukuti. Everything was great, especially the momos, and prices were reasonable. I want to try the goat curry next time.

My first time eating Nepalese and it won't be my last! I am so grateful for the staff who helped us decide what to order on our Saturday lunch date. Although I'd had palak chat before, this was by far the best I've ever had. I'll go back to Nanglo even if it's just to eat more of that! Knowing we were noobies, the kind server recommended a Thakali Thali, a popular, complete Nepali meal, so we chose the "Nanglo Set for Two Non-Veg" because we'd just finished a workout and needed protein. The entire dish was delicious, but the momos stood out as it was our first time having them. If you don't get the Thakali Thali, you must try the chicken momo and veg chilly momo. It was more than enough for two people, so we took the chicken biryani and veggie chow-min to go!

Such a gem! Authentic Nepali flavors and the thali is the star for a sampler of great flavors —fresh, balanced, and endlessly satisfying. The biryani and house-made pickles are amazing, the kuruani as dessert is a must-try! The staff make you feel right at home. Cozy spot you’ll want to come back to!

I’ve eaten here three times in the past two weeks and can’t stop telling everyone about it. This is the neighborhood restaurant I’ve been dreaming about for years: no-frills, downright delicious food; generous portions and great prices; and kind and friendly staff. Favorites so far: chicken pista korma, crispy palak chat, the spicy potatoes in the non-veg/veg Nanglo platter, the pistachio kulfi, and kesari kheer (saffron-infused rice pudding) The mango lassi and desserts aren’t too sweet, savory dishes are well-balanced (not too salty), and all the meat is tender.
