The food here was great. We had a five different items and debated what was the best: hot & sour soup, chubby noodles, crispy, sesame chicken, fried chicken wings. All were great. Chicken was nice and tender. The service here is a bit different. No table service but you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Simple staff but everything worked great and they are very pleasant. I loved the soup bowls and the bamboo tableware. The space was half empty with plenty of seating and fairly quiet.

Really tasty food! Tried the pan fried pork buns, eggplant with beef, and chubby chow mein with tofu. Wish the prices were a little cheaper and they offered lunch specials.

It was delicious and a lot of food, portions are huge, hot and sour soup was awesome,

We came here on a Sunday early evening after a day spent at the museum in Golden Gate Park. The staff was extremely friendly and the place had a very cool vibe. The menu was simple and straightforward, offering the usual Chinese staples like their sesame chicken, mongolian beef, and a wide array of dim sum dumplings. We were impressed and look forward to our next visit

Google
Wow, surprisingly good for takeout. The steamed veggie pork buns were solid, the pan-fried pork buns had the perfect crisp, and the chicken was lightly battered and not too sweet. Even the sautéed veggies tasted fresh. Super solid all around. Def adding this to the regular rotation.

I’ve always ordered to-go from Nanking Road China Bistro and it never disappoints! The portions are generous, the food is consistently ok, and everything is packed with care. Favorites include the Mongolian Beef—delicious every time!

Google
We liked most of the food we tried here, including the General Tso's Orange Chicken and the green bean Wok'd Greens. The latter, in particular, had a nice char and crunch. The 'XLB' Soup Dumplings, on the other hand, left something to be desired - the xiaolongbao did not have great flavor or texture. It seemed like they had been sitting around for a while. The service was efficient, and the prices were fair. Atmosphere was okay.

Google
Do you have family members who only want to eat AMERICANIZED Chinese food but you still want authentic Chinese dumplings? This place has you covered with a lot of the Americanized classics (eg sesame chicken, chow mein) while also having xiao long baos and other great dumplings. Also, the prices are high but the portions are equally large so just set aside room for leftovers.

Yelp
Delivery came within the timeframe promised. However, the driver still apologized for the "late" arrival. Food was just okay. My husband and I were HUGE fans of the previous incarnation of Nanking Road and this was the first time trying the spot since its return. Not sure if the current owner is the same as the old, but the menu is lackluster. Far fewer number of items than previously. Ordered the walnut prawns, broccoli beef, sautéed eggplant with chicken and wonton soup. Unfortunately these dishes didn't have the pizazz of the Nanking Road of yore. The prawns didn't even have a sauce nor were the walnuts sweetened. The soup was the only item that was decent and it came with over a dozen meaty wontons. I really wanted to love Nanking Road again, but this version isn't worth the repeat business.

Yelp
Had a lovely meal with 2 good friends. We dined in. The first visit here left a good impression. The foods was very good. We had Mongolian beef (tender), wok greens and a pawn dish. The flavor and wok taste was memorable. We had a wonderful time talking and enjoying the food. The staff were very friendly. Thanks!

Yelp
I've been to Dumpling Baby China Bistro in the Richmond before and ordered the same exact items so figured this might be a sister location (?) and decided to give this place a chance. Didn't go to the physical restaurant and ordered on ubereats. I've never seen such big to-go containers before so I was definitely pleasantly surprised when I saw the huge portion. Noodles were solid, perfectly seasoned and had a good bounce. Will say they were on the oily side but not too bad. The chicken was good initially but the later pieces I had were really hard. The sauce was good but the actual meat was pretty dry. Overall still a good spot.

Yelp
YA'LLL! I would come again! This place is sooo goooooood!!! its so cozy inside! It's self order. My brother and I ordered fried Rice, orange chicken and the steamed pork buns. When the food came out it was so warm and very flavor full ! 100% recommend if you are in the bay

Yelp
Quite possibly the best sesame chicken I've ever had. More tender shaped with thing crunchy breading, no gloopy sauce here! The shrimp fried rice is absolutely excellent with good flavor and amazing portion. Will be back to try more of the menu.

Yelp
It's a self-serve setup. When you walk in, there's no one to greet you, but you'll find tables, a self-serve station, and an iPad station for placing your order, whether for takeout or dining in. The lady who served us was very nice, polite, and attentive. The food was delicious, with the sweet glazed chicken being our favorite. Overall, everything was great!

Yelp
On rainy Saturday night after I did my eyebrow done, I wanted to nibble anything around the area and found this place. Ordered at their Kiosk, there was even 9% tip option, so I did not expect that much. The food portion was huge and it was great quality. Also the young guy who brought the food to me was very attentive. He brought a bowl of rice and told that the rice is on the house, and later provided a bottle of cold tea for the digestion. Not only the service was great, the food will also make me want to back to this place. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Ecstatic they've reopened and their Crispy Sesame Chicken is the same, the bomb!! Yum yum. I thought they raised the prices until I saw the size of the container (5"H x 6"L x 4.5"W) and weight of my bag. Out of curiosity, I weighed the Crispy Sesame Chicken container = 1 lb & 13 3/8 oz's. Also love their chicken fried rice. Since the reopening, it seems there's less options to chose from for delivery and you must order deliveries thru the web (seems via Doordash somehow which I'm not a fan of, don't like these 3rd party apps taking business from restaurant profits). I wanted to order steamed broccoli or asparagus but it wasn't on the menu and didn't want the multi-veg mix when I don't like certain veggies. Either way, Nanking is still the only place I order from and they're very friendly!

Yelp
We ordered the Crispy Honey Sesame Chicken and Sauteed Eggplant. The portion for both dishes were very generous. We had enough for 3 meals (with rice). We really enjoyed both dishes the first meal. The chicken was super crispy and almost addictive. The eggplant dish was tasty and also included red bell peppers, onions and green beans. Then later that night, we learned the downside to the crispiness of the crispy chicken dish. It just felt really heavy in our stomaches. The next morning, my husband didn't feel very good. He didn't get sick, but just felt bloated and gross. When I scooped out a bit more to eat the next day, the sauce that came with the chicken had solidified like hard candy, which certainly helped with the crispiness of the crust. We may try Nanking Bistro again, but skip the Crispy Honey Sesame Chicken.

Yelp
This place is great! We've walked by this restaurant a couple times and finally decided to give it a try. I'm glad we finally did! We ordered for to-go. The lady who helped us out was really friendly. Portions are great and the food is tasty/flavor-full. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
The sesame chicken was very good. Just a tad different from the past ones that I have ordered. Maybe there is a new cook or it's a modification of the recipe.

Yelp
So happy this place is back! It's been a few years since we have been in SF and are huge fans. The sesame chicken, wontons and dumplings are simply fantastic.

Yelp
Leaving a 5 star review because of how much my family and I used to come here. However, it leads us on to constantly check this app for a potential reopen and it always updates a month in advance. Are you actually reopening at any time or have an estimated date? We always get our hopes up and get disappointed.

Yelp
so glad to have these guys back. so good to have an accessible family option back in the Inner Sunset. loving the new look and the self service. food still rocks! please bring back the walnut prawns too!!! my wife loves them!

Yelp
Nan King is back!! I'm so excited to have their incredible Sesame Chicken again. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Thank you for having so many gluten free options and clearly stating what is GF, it's hard to find GF Chinese food. Our go to is General's chicken. Tasty food, great portions, fast service!

Nathan K.

Yelp
I love their food! I get the sesame chicken, salt and pepper chicken and the pan fried buns! Large portions!

M M.

Yelp
This was my family's favorite place to get Chinese food for many years, so excited they are back!! Everything we"ve ever gotten here has been delicious, with our favorite dish being the Sesame Chicken. The current menu has more dumplings than I remember but the recently tried SJB pan-fried pork dumplings and chicken teriyaki bao were very yummy. I how they bring back the sweet and sour raspberry chicken, our other past favorite!

Amy B.

Yelp
We were so excited to learn that this once great restaurant reopened, so we tried it last week. Excellent! Fresh and yummy.

Yelp
So happy this place is finally open again!! Got the Mongolian beef today. It is still incredible and tender. Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
When the wait for San Tung is insane, you start exploring around for backups. This place does a very good takeout business, but usually doesn't have too many diners in the restaurant so it's easy to get a seat. Most of the items were very tasty, though there were a couple of misses. Fried Garlic Calamari: Some of the best calamari I've ever had. The coating was light and crispy, but managed to cover every bit of squid. What really made this was the drizzle of garlic sauce plus all the veggies and herbs. Way more flavorful than a boring marinara dip. Glazed Pork Short Ribs: Lots of sweet and sticky sauce for these little riblets to swim in. It wasn't quite fall off the bone tender, but it wasn't rubbery either. Had a decent chew to it. Dragon Wings: The sauce was nice, but the wings were just ok. I'm spoiled by the twice-fried bonchon wings, so once-fried wings feels soggy in parts. Also, there were only wingettes and no drumettes (my favorite half of the wing). Crispy Sesame Chicken: Probably my favorite dish here. Gives San Tung a run for the money. Such crispy chicken tenders in a sweet and sticky sauce. No pretense about throwing in some random broccoli, just the chicken and that's fine with me. Wok-Seared Mongolian Lamb: The most disappointing dish here. The lamb was too thick and the texture was too slimy. They do this dish much better at Old Mandarin Islamic where the lamb is razor thin and seared quite nicely. Hong Kong Crispy Noodles: This is always a fun dish. Crispy noodles (i.e. regular noodles that are cooked then deep fried) which get soft when you add the veggie and pork stir fry. Love that every bite has a little bit of chewy noodles and a little bit of crispy noodles.

Yelp
I really liked this place! I was craving Americanized Chinese food, and Nan King Road Bistro did not disappoint. Interior is clean. Very few people were here when I came, but I could tell from pictures of the food that I would love any dish I ordered. My brother and I both ordered from the lunch specials menu: broccoli and beef for him, and chicken with eggplant and basil for me. The food is fresh, flavorful, and not too oily or salty at all. Portions are also VERY generous, considering that we were only paying about $10-11 each. After coming here for the first time, I think I've officially made this my go-to for Chinese American food!

Yelp
Nan King Road Bistro is BACK!! There are only a handful of good restaurants for Chinese food in the sunset but this place is exceptionally amazing. Probably one the best in the neighborhood! I decided to order dinner for my family via eatnankingroad.com and the ordering process was seamlessly easy. I ordered the famous honey sesame chicken, mongolian beef, eggplant with fresh basil, four seasons chow mein, walnut prawns, and the millennia veggies. Everything was so delicious and I couldn't stop eating. My personal favorites were the honey sesame chicken and the walnut prawns...10/10! Overall, I would definitely recommend to anyone craving some delicious Chinese food. Friendly people working there and price was quite reasonable. Can't wait to order my next meal!

Yelp
Nan King is my favorite Chinese restaurant of all time! The food is so healthy and delicious! Food is fresh and prices are the best in town! My favorites are the raspberry pineapple chicken and the black bean salmon. The flavors are out of this world and the food is guilt free! No msg or other crap! I will come here time after time for the nostalgia, good service and deliciousness.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Chinese food thats a reasonable price. They were also able to seat 12 of us which really helped. Recommend for a cheap, but good place for lunch on a work day. Service was quick and our waitress was very friendly. Ambiance: 3/5 Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Overall Experience: 4/5

Yelp
I think I've finally found my favorite restaurant in this part of town! I came here feeling under the weather and was in search of some good food. I ordered the wonton soup, egg drop soup, and crispy sesame chicken and was not disappointed. Though the wonton soup and egg flower soup were not traditional, it was fresh and healthy as they did add many additional veggies. As for the crispy sesame chicken, that was the star of the meal! A light a crispy coat with a sweet glaze and chicken that was cooked just right pleased everyone! I was surprised to find that they weren't super busy on a Thursday night, but I was likewise delighted with their great customer service!

Alan M.

Yelp
I AM SO HAPPY THEY RE-OPENED!! Nan King has the Best Chinese Food in town, and the owners are such nice people. Save some money and help out a small business by ordering for pick-up if you can. They are really fast too. Recommendations: Egg Plant Bistro Chow Mien Sweet Chili Shrimp Cucumber Salad

Yelp
THRILLED that Nan King Road is back! This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Sunset. I picked up from the restaurant which was hassle free and safe (no need to enter the restaurant, they have a pick up window). HIGHLY recommend the Crab Cheese Puffs, General Tso's Orange Chicken, and Mongolian Beef. You can't go wrong!!

Yelp
3.5 STARS Ordered lunch from here in February of this year via Eat24. Each lunch special comes with rice and a side. For the rice, you can choose between white or brown. You can also substitute fried rice or chow mein at an additional cost. For the side, the only included item is hot and sour soup. For an additional cost, you can substitute wonton soup or a salad. The roommate and I got the following lunch specials. Chicken breast with green beans ($6.99) sub Chow mein (+$1.25): with grilled onion, chili, garlic, sweet peppers, jalapeno, and soy I decided to substitute the side with wonton soup for an additional $1.25. Kung-pao chicken with White rice ($6.99): with chili pepper, garlic, asparagus, and zucchini This normally comes with peanuts, but we asked for no peanuts cuz I'm not a fan. Wok seared mongolian beef ($7.99) sub Fried rice (+$1.25): with grilled onion, jalapeno, red sweet pepper, garlic chili, and soy Got this and the Kung-pao with the hot and sour soup. Since I'm not a huge fan of plain white rice, I'm always looking for Chinese places that will let you sub fried rice or chow mein in their lunch specials. I don't mind paying an additional fee since I normally like a small portion of a lot of different dishes. I'm so glad Nan King Road Bistro let's you do that!

Yelp
I went here for lunch because, honestly, San Tung was closed and my roommate and I were still craving Asian cuisine. We made it here on time before closing time. I ordered the lemon chicken off the lunch menu. The chicken took awhile, but I thought it was good. It wasn't deep fried, and they used white meat. I could have used more rice, but that's a minor issue. The meal also came with hot and sour soup, which had a lot of tofu. My meal cost around $8, and I was quite full. So I think it's a good deal, especially in the Inner Sunset.

Yelp
I find them to be an improvement over their prior incarnation (before Shabu-Shabu). The Chicken with Green String Beans is excellent. My favorite is the Xiao Long Bao, dumplings with broth inside. I prefer the red vinegar & ginger sauce I'm used to, but I use a ponzu-rice vinegar mixture for my take out. They also have a chow mien with Hong Kong style crispy noodles that I prefer. They have good standard dishes like General's Chicken and Mongolian Beef, too.

Yelp
Situation - Lunch with a friend (January 2015) - I ordered the Kung-Pao Chicken with Peanuts ($6.99) Pros - Cozy decor with music playing at a low volume - The food was delicious and had a good amount of spice - Friendly service - They let you split your bill on multiple credit cards Cons - None

Yelp
This has become a go-to for my boyfriend and me; the service is prompt and friendly, it's never too crowded, and the food is really good. We've been able to come with a big group without much notice, and they always accommodate us happily. Portions are generous, and when we split two dishes, we always have some left over to take home. Our favorites are the crispy honey chicken and black bean chow fun!

Yelp
Oh. My. God. I love my Asian food and I'm pretty picky when it comes to finding good places that have vegetarian food that stands out, plus a really awesome hot and sour soup. My friend introduced me to Nan King a few weekends ago and I can truly and honestly say it's one of the best stir fries I've ever had. I ordered a fried tofu and veggie dish lunch entree that included rice and a bowl of soup. The soup came out very fast and I was extremely impressed with it. Flavoured just right, a good measure of hot and sour, some thickness, bits of tofu, it was a perfect appetizer and I'd rate it with some of the best, tastiest hot and sours I've had. Entrees came out pretty quick as well. I was extremely happy with the variation of veggies, the amount of food, and the overall flavour. There was also more than enough to fill me up. The price here is also flat out amazing. $7 for a lunch dish, including soup and rice? Yes please! I've gone to some other great Asian places for lunch that had food as comparable but the price was definitely much higher. Given the quality and amount of food, I was surprised at the final bill price for two of us. My only complaint? Why are they way out in the Inner Sunset!? This isn't an area of SF that I go to often so I can't see myself getting their delicious tasty food more often! That being said, I'd happily go out of my way once in awhile to pick up lunch here. Or see if they'll deliver? Oh please yes, send some of that awesome food out to my place!

Yelp
I love the food here. It is one of my top spots for American Chinese food in the city. Things taste fresh and not super greasy, and the ingredients/dishes are creative and make sense. Y'all probably know bout dat crack chicken so I won't explain you, but try their lunch specials before 2pm! Totally worth it and you get to sample their staples! Here is my mango chicken thing. Peace out Nan King Road Bistro, till next time.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Loved the lunch special with shrimp, scallops & white fish. Tons of fish and meat and very fresh! Also came with soup. Loved the large portion for $9! My party enjoyed their meal, and we recommend the lunch specials. I was thinking about ordering wine, but when I asked for the wine menu, the server pointed to the menu which only said wine is available, but that gave me no clue to what they had (??????)

Yelp
This place is delicious and affordable. I ordered the cup of egg drop soup, and I got this giant bowl. I could've sworn that she misheard me and brought a bowl, but sure enough, it was actually a cup. I can't even imagine the bowl size. For dinner, I had the raspberry pineapple chicken. Words cannot do this dish justice. Right after sushi, this is probably my favorite dish ever. Amazing.

Yelp
Amazing fresh healthy Chinese food. Served by a wonderful family owned business. Picked up at their convenient pick up window. Line moved efficiently fast, was thanked for my business. Food is outstandingly delicious. Thanks for coming back NanKing! Same as San Tung's dry fried chicken! All white meat chicken, perfect!

Yelp
Mourning the closing of Nanking Road : ( Great fresh veggies and tasty fried meaty things in always savory-sticky-sweet sauces. Not going to miss the outsider-style artwork, but expect the creator has since blossomed. Maybe they'll re-open? Yes please? I promise to order more often or whatever it takes.
google avatar

Yelp
Words cannot explain how thrilled I am to see Nan King return!!! I ordered on their website and the food was ready for pickup at the window in 20 minutes. I missed their Sesame Chicken so much and had to get it-- It's still to die for. I also ordered Millenia Veggies and a vegetarian Bistro Fried Rice, both which the fam really enjoyed. Friendly folks working there cooking up some bomb food. Welcome back, Nan King!

Yelp
I dined here twice in the last two weeks, just to make sure the first visit wasn't a fluke. On my first visit I had the potstickers, Mongolian Beef, and hot sake. The potstickers were crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, without any greasy spots that I occasionally experience. I'm not sure whether they were made there, but they were obviously treated well before making the journey to my plate. The Mongolian Beef I had on both visits, the first as my only dish, and the second as a share with the other table members. The Beef was tender - in that it came from a good cut of meat and was cooked appropriately. The vegetables in the dish were piping hot on the outside, warm and crisp on the inside. I had the dish twice, and it was exactly the same both times. On my second visit I sampled several dishes with other people. The walnut prawns are excellent. Tempura with a walnut glaze... I can't do it justice. The other dishes I tried were also excellent, but the one thing that stuck out to me was the number of take out orders and deliveries. As I enjoyed my meal, the number of takeout orders I noticed was staggering. That said, I can't imagine why someone would have these incredible dishes delivered. (On second thought, I can, but I'm on a soapbox at the moment) Be good to yourself and dine in. Your food will taste much better and you will have a much more enjoyable experience. Take out only works for mediocre food, and this food is not mediocre by a long shot.

Yelp
It seems like they are temporarily closed for renovation. I went there last night with two friends visiting from Texas because I really wanted to let them try Nan King since I've been here couple times with my sister. Unfortunately, there was a sign saying they are closed for renovation but was not stated on Yelp.

Sarah W.

Yelp
I saw a few Facebook posts about this restaurant reopening and decided to try it out. This is now my new go-to for Chinese food! Everything was A+. We ordered veggie spring rolls, moo shu wraps, orange tofu, and chow mein. Huge portions, quality ingredients, and delicious! I've never received so many wraps in a moo shu order. The total was $48 before tax/tip, which I thought was very reasonable for the amount of food. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't super busy. Everything came out one by one nice and hot inside and out! Definitely made to order! There's construction happening on the building, but they're still open. Thought they were closed for a hot minute because it looked dark inside from outside and the sign said they were closed.. but we saw some some diners inside. Came in and turned out they just forgot to flip the sign. Ordered: -green onion pancake: definitely liked this! Came with hoisin sauce. If you like green onion pancakes, it's good here. Came out hot and crispy. -pot stickers: Came with a soy vinegar sauce. Another good appetizer. -shanghai noodles: we came here after looking at yelp photos and knew we wanted this and ordered it. I think they made a mistake because they brought out chow mein noodles instead. I was quite disappointed but didn't want to say anything. It was the same price on the menu anywho. More reason to come back and get the right item next time. -crispy sesame chicken: like many other said, this is a must! Came in a decent portion size. This can surely be shared between 4 people with rice/noodles.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place and give it 5 stars really good tasty Chinese food! Ordered Kung Pao Prawn/Tofu and Broccoli Tofu dish- along with crispy veggie rolls... everything so fresh!

Yelp
Give me all that crispy sesame chicken! Nan King Road Bistro is a tradition for my San Fransisco visits. My sister-in-law introduced me to this restaurant three years ago, and it's only gotten better since my last visit. The restaurant looks a little hole-in-the-wallie from the outside, but it's brightly lit with natural lighting, bright colors and beautiful wooden tables inside. Service is friendly and fast and the food is simply delicious. You can't miss the crispy sesame chicken ($11.50): perfect as an appetizer for the table or an sharing plate for two. This dish will kick your tastebuds up a notch and give you the urge to return again and again. We also enjoyed the Shanghai Pork Dumplings ($8.25) during our last visit: steamed juicy pork dumplings with ginger, soy, and dark vinegar dip. The were delicious as well and there were at least 8-10 small dumplings in an order. Nan King Road Bistro offers delivery or order ahead options, but I would recommend a visit to the physical location: spacious and inviting only begin to describe this gem of an environment with tastebud kicking food.
