I needed a bulb for my dome light, and couldn't find the right one on the shelf. I went to the counter, and the salesperson acted like he didn't have time for me. Gruffly, he said someone would be with me in a minute, but in the meantime, two or three people got helped before me. Finally, a nice young man asked if I needed help, and I said "Yes please." It seemed like such a bother for him to go upstairs to get my little tiny light bulb which I paid $2.50 for one. When I put it in, it came on briefly, but seemed crooked, so I tried to adjust it. It wouldn't come on again, so I thought I needed a better angle from the back seat, and when I went to use my automatic door unlock, it wouldn't work. I figured that a fuse had blown, and looked at the fuse box map. I couldn't find anything that said door unlock or dome light (the print is really small). I didn't even know how to check if a fuse is bad, so I went back in the store and told the guy what happened. He didn't even have the courtesy to come and try to help me, but instead said it must be a wiring problem and that I should go to one of his customers who specializes in electronic issues. It didn't make sense to me. I thought for sure it must be a simple fuse, I just didn't know how to fix it. So, I got the address of the auto shop, and thought I would stop by my house first to use the bathroom and maybe see if one of my neighbors could help. I wanted something to drink, so stopped on the way at my local corner store. I got some juice, and asked Johnny, the owner, if he knew anything about cars. I told him what happened, and he offered to help. He came outside, left his store, and as he was looking at my fuse box, I watched his front door in case any customers came. He couldn't find a bad fuse on the inside, and I learned what that little plastic thing is for (the thing that takes the fuse out). Amazing what a college degree doesn't teach you! Then he told me there is another fuse box under the hood, so we looked there, and sure enough there was a fuse that said dome light. Cool thing is that Johnny sells fuses at his store, so I didn't have to go anywhere else. I got 2 fuses for $1.29 so now I have a spare. Popped it in, and walla!!! I have a dome light and auto door lock! Simple fix, and the simple solution is to simply care about your neighbors. Simply help when asked and it will come around ten fold! It's pretty simple.
