Google
Best sushi around hands down. Poke nachos, a must-have. The staff make you feel at home, the atmosphere inside is great, and the food is on an epic level. No matter what I say, words will not do the Nara staff or the food justice. Every time I have been in Nara, the friendly professionalism has been beyond amazing. If you're eating anywhere else, simply put your missing out. Come on....just look how amazing this plating looks.

This is the best restaurant in town and only Place to get quality sushi! I have always had a great experience. Staff is refreshing and always great!

Nara Restaurant is an absolute treasure in Billings! Regarded as the best sushi in the area, their authentic sushi is a must-try. Each roll is fresh and beautifully presented, showcasing the incredible skill of the chefs. The service is exceptional; the staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. Despite being a small building with limited seating, this “hole in the wall” has a cozy charm that makes it feel special. It’s the kind of place you want to keep returning to, whether for a casual meal or a special occasion. Don’t miss out on this local gem!

This is a hard review because I think NaRa can have five stars across the board. We went on a Saturday night and were immediately seated. The staff was really friendly, but there was only one server for the restaurant. It was a little slow, but not too bad. We ordered two entries which also came with miso soup and ginger salad. The soup was amazing. We easily could have had a second portion. The salad though, it was drowned in a soy dressing. There wasn't anything ginger about it. When I say drowned, there was easily a quarter cup left in the bowl when I was finishing. It was just too much. I ordered the Korean chicken fried rice and my wife ordered the bulgogi. The Korean chicken was just one flavor, salt. It was so incredibly salty. It was hard to eat without lots of water to wash it down. The bulgogi was delicious and less salty. In all, I'd try it again, but with different dinners. I'm not sure if that is normal or an off night.

We wanted sushi from somewhere new to us before getting on the road. NaRa was the BEST choice we could have ever made! Friendliest and knowledgeable staff, peaceful atmosphere, and OUTSTANDING food! When we return, it's going to be tough to not order the same things. Poké Nachos are the greatest thing ever, Coconut Shrimp Roll could be a dessert, and the Nacho Roll broke my brain

Google
Nara exceeded our high expectations, by a lot. My boyfriend is a head chef at a well known establishment in Billings, and it’s nearly impossible to get any excitement or interest out of him (about the food) when we go out to eat — he was over the moon about our meal at Nara. Our waitress was super friendly, knowledgable with wonderful recommendations, and personable — all while training a new staff member. She took the time to make us feel welcomed and informed, never rushed, and genuinely comfortable! The food was spectacular. If you’re able to try the poke nachos, you will not be disappointed. My boyfriend’s roll had lobster tempura on top — buttery, crispy, fried, I didn’t even know this stuff existed. And my roll has hot cheeto crumbs?!? Spectacular! It blows all other sushi spots in town out of the water. We’re lucky to have this hidden gem here in Billings! I can’t wait to go back! Thank you to the staff for an incredible experience! We’ll be coming in again very soon!

Yelp
I love every but of my visit here. Service was awesome. They were busy, but that didn't stop the staff from giving it great service. The food was so good that I was doing my happy food dance. And I enjoyed the ambiance. Comfy and welcoming. Nice place for family or for a date.

Lori K.

Yelp
The food is amazing. The only bad thing about this place is the close the doors when they run out of food. They are turning away people regularly at 7:30-8:00. So go early and hungry because you'll want to try everything!!

J M.

Yelp
This is authentic Korean food and solid sushi with larger portions than other places. The Korean chicken wings were excellent and very much like the best gampoongi you would expect in a great Korean restaurant. We had the tuna sushi roll and the tuna was both fresh and ample. I didn't go for additional sushi because the prices were higher than I would expect, but it could be due to the cost of keeping fresh fish in Montana. The quality was great. Service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant is clean and parking is ample. Overall, we had a very nice meal and would return.

Daphne C.

Yelp
This place is never a disappointment and sadly for the loyal locals, the secret seems to have gotten out cause this place has been packed lately. Congrats to the business for being Billings best "hole in the wall."

Jean A.

Yelp
Food wasn't that great, and it's definitely overpriced. Service was good. I won't go back again.

Yelp
I used to go to this restaurant many years ago and I found the food to be delicious and fairly priced. I would not recommend this place to anyone now unless they want to eat overpriced food in a noisy garage. Atmosphere is poor, service is borderline and food portions are tiny for the price. Not a value!

Yelp
The best sushi I have had since moving back to Montana from California. The jalapeño hamachi is delicious.

Darrell R.

Yelp
Amazing food , amazing service , Beautiful inside. The 80's music was a lil odd to be played. It just felt a lil out of place for such a nice place

Yelp
Best sushi in Billings. I'm new to the state, and I'm struggling to find good ethnic food. Where I'm from is a melting pot of culture. After a lot of failed visits at other big sushi places in town that had amazing reviews (I don't know why), I stopped into NaRa. Amazing isn't even the right word to express how amazing their sushi rolls were. It was so good, I came back the next day. Lol Dustin, the owner, chuckled when he saw me again. That time, I sat at the sushi bar and asked him if he could make a roll I got back home. He did, and again, I was blown away and beyond happy. He checked in to see how it was, and all I could say was, amazing! If you want a spot that knows how to throw down, NaRa is the spot.

Yelp
Best Ramen I ever had. Great spice level and delivery to my hotel was a huge plus. Also order some dumplings which were perfect

Yelp
It's been a few months since I have been able to go here. As usual the service was very helpful and friendly. Did not disappoint with a fresh taste of sashimi and the incredible taste of a Red Dragon roll. A non formal cozy place with a friendly fire burning in a corner stove. Still one of my favorite places.

Yelp
We are visiting Billings on vacation and had a hankering for sushi. Everything was delicious. The service was outstanding, she made awesome suggestions and was great with the kids.

John R.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi in Billings, if not the the state. The service is top-notch, the prices are competitive, and the food is prepared by true sushi chefs who know what they're doing. I come here for lunch maybe once a week -- they always have good lunch specials, try the Jackie Chan, or Enter the Bacon. For a bigger roll, or for special occasions, give the Girth Brooks a shot. Not into sushi? They have other great options. I've never had anything short of an excellent meal here and I've brought sushi-skeptical family who like their order. If you're in Billings and want sush, this is the first and last place to look. I've tried the other options, they don't hold a candle to NaRa.

Yelp
Great food, great service!!!! Ciera was absolutely amazing!!!!! Best waitress I've We're coming back!!!!had in years!!!!!

Yelp
This place is soendy for sure, but it has massive portions, fantastic quality, great atmosphere, and a great staff. We love Nara!

Sue E.

Yelp
absolutely thee best asian dining in town.. or anywhere I've been! Great beer from Neptune brewery too. it's a five star place but 4 star for lack of staff. I felt ignored for a while, but I'll keep going back. staff is friendly
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
Best sushi in Billings great service. The Yellowtail was fantastic I had the "Girth Brooks" lol great roll awesome name.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Yikes! WAYYYY overpriced for less than average sushi. I definitely wouldn't come here again. Scroll the menu before choosing to dine here. It was over $35 for a rainbow roll. A RAINBOW ROLL! Most rolls are between $22-27 each with absolutely nothing special about them at all. The miso soup didn't have any tofu and was just slightly flavored water...so gross. If you want sushi, I suggest finding another spot.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Skeptical about Sushi in Billings?! The waitress was amazing...but it felt cold in spirit...like the sushi chefs are so redundantly bored of turning out "off menu" sushi that it's no longer a creative Asian dining experience. I requested an omakase yellow tail and the chef just made me a roll from the menu . Food was decent considering it's Montana.

Yelp
Amazing sushi! Amazing Chef!! Amazing Staff!! I've been a customer fir over twenty years!!!!

Yelp
We were on a month long trip to Montana. We were dying for sushi & found this spot on Yelp in Billings. We were hesitant due to some of the sub par reviews, but were desperate for decent sushi so decided to try it to say we had sushi in Montana! We are so glad we came in. The miso soup was tasty, and is the simple barometer in which we judge all sushi establishments. We slurped all 4 cups, which were complimentary with dinner! My two picky kids loved it. On to the sushi. We ordered the salmon sashimi which was pricey at $27, but we found out it comes with 20-25 pieces of sashimi. Say what?! That's very reasonable. And to boot....it was sashimi grade & melted in our mouths. We were overall impressed with the food. The two servers were busy but made time for us once we flagged them down. All in all, we would definitely come back & give them 5 stars for scratching a serious sushi itch!!!KUDOS

Yelp
Went for dinner on a Friday night , it was packed, service was a little slow due to the amount of customers , but the employees were very friendly . We got the Phat Boys appetizer, the Jackie Chan roll and the Fire In The Hole along with an order of Bulgoki on the side . Food was excellent. Would definitely eat there again

Yelp
Nara is a great place for sushi take-out if you live in the Billings area! They have creative rolls, unlike any other I've tried, that are bursting with flavor. Both the Red Dragon and the Karate Kid had enough sweet, spicy, and umami to satisfy all of my tastebuds. Another thing to love about Nara-- the rolls are jam packed fatties. One or two rolls with an appetizer is enough for a hungry trio! I can't rave enough about this place, and make sure to check out their weekly specials on Facebook, you won't want to miss them!
google avatar

Yelp
Good sushi spot in Billings. They have a variety of rolls, but it's kind of a pan Asian place, they also have bulgogi, kimchi, and other Asian dishes beyond sushi rolls. On the sushi side, they had sashimi, nigiri and maki rolls. A person at our table was gluten free and they have gluten free tamari as an alternative to soy sauce. There was only one server during a busy weekday lunch, and the sushi chef wasn't sure what a chirashi bowl was (also not on the menu); despite having rice bowls as a side and sashimi as a sushi option. The rolls are great though, and big. The maki rolls are pricey, but you get what you pay for. Their kimchi seemed to be local or made in house, it was real good kimchi. Check them out.

Yelp
I went in for the first time last night (9/19) and I'm so sad I've been living in Billings for 13 years and haven't been. It is pretty disgraceful considering how amazing the food was. I've been all over the US and NaRa is in my top 3. The server was so welcoming and kind even with it being pretty filled. You can tell they cared about what they served because the presentation was exactly that. The quality was top notch and so fresh! It'll be my monthly tradition now.

John K.

Yelp
I love coming here anytime I can. It's one of the few places where you can walk in anytime, quickly be seated and have a plate in front of me within 15 minutes of walking in. 10/10 recommend and the staff are amazing as well. Especially Cierra And Dustin.

Yelp
Amazing sushi! Service was good, came during lunch. They accommodated everyone with efficiency. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
The sushi here was very pricey and not good... too much rice and the quality was that of grocery store sushi.

Yelp
Okay so I think Montana folk done chased out the Asians to create every roll with cream cheese, and add bacon. Add that Montana heart attack spin on Asian food. My roll had really salty crispy bacony stuff on top, way too much sodium. Could not use my soy sauce or I needed to scrape it off. The miso soup is just broth and a few green onions, no seaweed or soy cubes. $12 for a large hot sake..$4 in Denver. $12-15 for great sushi in Denver, over $20 here...and not as good. Far too overpriced for American Montana-ized sushi. Really disappointing. I don't make it a habit to complain about food while I'm involved in my dining experience. Complaining to me is not effective in my experience with restaurants. It was not the sauce that was making it salty, it was the crunchy crispy things on top so yes I guess they were onions... Salty ones though lol. The sauce was good. I order specialty rolls all the time... I love sushi. I guess it just wasn't what I expected and when I looked at the menu it seems like every roll had cream cheese or bacon or both and I thought that was really odd for a sushi restaurant. Also, I do not recall saying it was "delicious" I recall saying "thank you" as I got up and left. I'm sorry for the honesty. I might try it again, thank you.

Staci G.

Yelp
This little hole in the wall is absolutely amazing. Had the appetizer combo which was phenomenal. Their variety of sushi is awesome. Beautifully presented and so tasty. A little higher priced but worth it a couple times a year as a treat. Stop in...you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
A total gem and a huge surprise that there is top quality sushi in Billings. Not cheap but on par with typical sushi restaurant prices. Also extremely nice staff!

Yelp
Rediscovered the Na Ra after being a steady customer when they first opened. My favorite is the Jackie Chan roll and the Mongolian Chicken.

Randy R.

Yelp
Went to NaRa on Thursday 10/7/22. I hadn't been there lately however it did not disappoint! The service was fast and food amazing! The only thing is it is a bit spendy but it could be due to prices increasing just like every thing else.

Orissa S.

Yelp
Tuesday, 7:34pm (they close at 9) i wanted to order some sushi. Nothing too crazy. Was told the kitchen was closed but depending on what I wanted they would consider reopening the kitchen. I work in a restaurant. We allow people in until closing time and only close the kitchen after everyone has ordered. This place is overpriced, but I get it, everything costs more now. This scenario was nothing but unprofessional and made me question what other procedures they might fudge on.

Yelp
I've always driven by this place and dismissed it. The outside doesn't look that great. I went in on a recommendation and was blown away. We only got two simple rolls but they were wonderful. I've only had better sushi by the ocean. Very clean inside and an expansive menu.

Ani M.

Yelp
Every time we have visited the service has been great and the food has been fantastic (sushi, noodle dishes and tofu). The bathroom is always clean; you can tell the quality of the establishment by the cleanliness of the bathroom. The prices are decent. Love coming here to eat! I recommend this restaurant whole heartedly!

Yelp
We sat at the sushi bar last night. The fish was spectacular. Everything was beautiful to look at and even better to taste.

Bea J.

Yelp
We are so happy we finally tried this restaurant we had dinner there last night and the Sushi was amazing the sushi chefs did a great job! We missed good sushi and we can't be happier we have a place to go. The staff is very nice so we didn't mind waiting for our food because it was definitely worth the wait! We will definitely be back!! Everything we ate was so good!!!

Jami L.

Yelp
Went there last night, at first we were seated at the bar, which is tiny and uncomfortable, where we were forgotten about. No one asked us about drinks or anything. And The chefs are literally right in front of your face but they didn't greet us which was super awkward. We asked to be moved to a table and were then helped right away. We ordered literally only 2 sushi rolls and didn't get them for over an hour! We almost walked out at one point. The waitress was very apologetic and I know it's not her fault but that was just ridiculous. The rolls were good but I can't believe the sushi prices here-over $20 for each roll! Will not be coming back, the wait-time was atrocious, for any order let alone our very small one. Maybe don't take as many online orders when your restaurant is full or make room for more chefs to work?
google avatar

Yelp
My :( updated review (hadn't been here in about a year), summarized in a few sentences. New waitress is super unfriendly... like inconvenienced she had to help us. Menu now does not include any appetizers, rice bowls, noodle bowls, etc... it's all sushi. Sushi was not as delicious as it once was.

Nate W.

Yelp
Best sushi in Billings, owners are 1 of a kind, they've been killing it since 1996 so you don't have to hear it from me, highly recommend if your in Billings, if sushi is not your go t00 ,there kitchen brings that fire kudos to the whole staff !!

Yelp
This was a nice experience for me. When Nara first opened many years ago, I lived in Billings. The food was good then and is still good today. I had two decent rolls, more than plenty of food. The waitress was efficient, pleasant and involved. I will say, the team making my rolls seemed inexperienced. Both rolls were a little loose in construction and one needed a sharper knife to make the cuts cleaner. Stuff was stuck together. Good job everyone and thank you for the memories.
google avatar

D T.

Yelp
Went there for dinner. I was shocked with prices of each sushi. Rainbow Roll for $35!!!!!! Who pays for that? The sushi menu had crazy ingredients....bacon, cheddar cheese....odd to us. We've enjoyed sushi in many cities across the US and never experienced sushi this bad. We actually had the "whatever roll" and asked them to leave out the cheddar cheese which was supposed to be melted on the sushi. So at least it was edible. This was not the case for the spicy tuna roll...the ground tuna was more mush and no taste with zero spicy. There was one waitress for the whole restaurant. Clearly she was overwhelmed but can't blame her. She treated us well. At some point owners son (under 10) in boy scout clothes was cleaning the tables. Is that even legal? Just because they are one of 2 sushi places in Billings does not mean we have to pay excessive prices. I will never go back.
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
I had some good sushi here, but was concerned about all of the jalapeños and creme cheese. I had some with and some without the jalapeños. My favorite was the fire in the hole. I did enjoy my meal and discovered dirt church IPA. The menu was heavy on specialty rolls and not a lot of the regular go to rolls. It was good but was it worth $115?

Elah W.

Yelp
We really enjoyed eating here! We were really impressed with how fresh everything tasted. The rolls and gyoza we got were delicious and the service was great. I so wish I could remember the name of our server because she was so kind and very attentive. The food is well worth the price and we will certainly be back!
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
Love how intimate this place is. The sushi is always fresh and you get an actual person sized roll. The rollin red is my favorite but I've tried almost everything in the menu and my husband and I are fans.
google avatar

MK L.

Yelp
I can't believe how expensive of their food are. I ate in many different J restaurants in many different States. The food here are way too much than the other area. The food is not that great. I can go to a high end, fresh J restaurant in CA. The quality is much much better and cost pretty much the same or even less. It just blow my mind after I order to go of about 15 rolls. It cost over $300 before tips.

Nicole P.

Yelp
We have ordered twice from this place. Sushi is fresh, tasty, and reasonable price. Their Korean fried rice is amazing. Great flavor, huge portions, and good price. NaRa is by far our favorite sushi place here in Billings.
google avatar

Yelp
First time ever in Billings and found this place for dinner as I got into the city. I was able to sample their salmon Nigiri, spicy tuna maki roll, and their Tonkatsu with rice. I must say for Montana their fish had a delicious umami and they don't skimp on the slices of fish as well. The Tonkatsu was also fried very well and in general food was on point. Also I would recommend their sake as well if you're into it as a way to end the meal with it.
