We will give this place another chance, but I will tell you about our two experiences so far. I try to only reviews if I have something good to say, but I have been thinking about this for a couple of days and it is bothering me a little bit.
The place is beautiful. We made a reservation for six of us for 7:30 PM specifying indoors. They could only seat us outdoors, but since there were outdoor heaters, we agreed and it was fine and enjoyable. All of us enjoyed our meals. This is really not about the food, but about the política del restorán.
The first thing was the waiter gave my wife a hard time about the temperature of her steak she was ordering. She said she would like it medium pink or "medium plus" but no dripping blood. He said medium would be "bloody". Then he shocked our group by saying if it's not medium with blood, it will be cooked all the way through medium well. As it turned out, it came out fine, but we didn't really appreciate getting an argument right off the bat.
One of us got milanesa. We asked for a fried egg on top (as is the option everywhere) and were refused. He said flatly that the chef has no eggs. One of the items on the dinner menu is the chivito which carries a fried egg! The reason we eat milanesa with fried egg is because it moistens the plate because milanesa alone can be dry, which this was, but still tasty. As I said, our problem was with the service, which was a very regimented and unyielding with no effort at all in the interest of the customer.
This is a good little restaurant, but not a world class chuchi Michelín restaurant of 5 stars in Paris, France where one knows ahead of time the Cordon Bleu chefs (and waiters) could be expected to be a little snobby.
Here, I don't know why they cannot accommodate a customer's request especially where it is such a simple request for exactly one egg. It does no good to get into it with a customer about meat temperature either. It was embarrassing.
Having said that, our $640 dinner was overall enjoyable, and we had a pleasant evening (other than the lacking service). Given that it was our first time there and that perhaps it was just an off night for the server, we tipped 25%.
We noticed that they do breakfast which looked very delicious online so we made plans to meet there the next morning for breakfast. We all got ready and showed up at 10:30 as their website says they do breakfast until 11:30. We were seated and handed lunch menus, and stated that we hadn't had our coffee yet and we were looking to get the breakfast. The answer came. No. We were told they do not serve breakfast --only on the weekend they have brunch. I have no idea what this was all about, perhaps their website needs to be updated, but they very firmly refused us breakfast (by the way, we were the only patrons in the restaurant). We left very confused, because we are not really sure if it is true they do not serve breakfast during the week.
