How I Travel: Taylor Jenkins Reid Uses Road Trips to Combat Writer’s Block | Condé Nast Traveler

"On a research trip for Atmosphere, I spent the majority of my Houston visit on a very long VIP tour of the Johnson Space Center, which was incredible. If you're interested in NASA or space exploration—or specifically mission control—I highly recommend the tour I did into the Apollo-era mission control, where we saw not just the telemetry but the desks and the theater behind it; we also stood in the theater of the current ISS mission control and looked out onto that floor. The visit included going inside a decommissioned Space Shuttle to explore the mid-deck and the payload bay, and even the short walk from the motel across the street taught me about how Houston's humid air and daily rhythms feel different from Los Angeles, notes I wrote down to capture the atmosphere." - Kaitlin Menza

"Space Center Houston Who hasn’t daydreamed about being an astronaut at least once?Thankfully, Space Center Houston makes it easy to learn about the great beyond. It’s the area’s No. 1 attraction for international visitors and the first Smithsonian Affiliate in the greater Houston area. The center features more than 400 space artifacts and several exhibitsrelated to the past, present, and future of America’s human spaceflight program. It’s also home to the world’s largest collection of moon rocks and lunar samples for public view, and offers guests the opportunity to go behind the scenes to see NASA's Johnson Space Center."

Definitely worth buying the membership if your planning on going more then once, great place to bring your favorite person, kids, spouse, friend. Really informative and just overall awesome. You really get the scale and scope of how large the rockets and capsules are, very friendly staff.

I'm giving it a neutral rating because I only went to the small park at the entrance across from the sign. Nice little spot. You can see a space capsule and a couple of jets. I tried to walk across the entrance road to get a picture of the shuttle and booster in the complex, and a loudspeaker activated telling me to "remove myself from the premises." Then a security guard came out on a golf cart to check the area. I can appreciate good security. Thank you, guys. Still got my pictures from the park side.

If you're a fan of space exploration, this is a destination you absolutely must visit. The center offers a fascinating and educational experience for visitors of all ages. It's especially enjoyable for families with children, as the exhibits are interactive and designed to spark curiosity and excitement about space science. One of the highlights of the visit is the buggy ride that takes you into the exhibit warehouse. Along the way, we were pleasantly surprised to spot some longhorns grazing nearby—an unexpected and delightful bonus that added a touch of local charm to the experience. Inside the warehouse, you'll find a variety of exhibits showcasing real spacecraft, astronaut gear, and informative displays about past and future space missions. The layout is well-organized, making it easy to navigate and absorb the information at your own pace. Before you leave, make sure to stop by the souvenir shop. It offers a wide selection of space-themed merchandise, from educational toys and books to apparel and collectibles. It's a great place to pick up a memorable keepsake or a gift for someone who shares your passion for space. Overall, this center is a perfect blend of education and entertainment, making it a worthwhile stop for anyone interested in the wonders of the universe.

The NASA Johnson Space Center is a fascinating and enjoyable place to visit! It’s full of detailed information about space exploration, history, and technology, making it both educational and exciting. They offer tours that take you deeper into the experience, explaining everything clearly and even giving you the chance to see some of the work areas where real space missions are prepared. A must-visit for anyone interested in space, science, or simply learning something new!

What a place! The ‘Moonwalker’ show narrated by Tom Hanks was extremely well done and really hit the spot. The displays and tram tours are well thought out. Fairly priced (they do have a military discount) and a good value for money overall. Definitely a must visit and also a re-visit in the future.

I had put off visiting NASA until I had someone visiting from out of town. I have been to Soace Center for other events like NASA Lights, but I'd never done the full interactive museum experience I will say that there is something here for everyone, but the majority of the experience would appeal more to children than adults... which is wild because some of the jargon and concepts are very mature There are presentations/skits that are informative. There are interactive computers with game-like experiences. There are stations for creating your own paper rocket, or places where you can write down and post what you would bring to space. You can even board a parked NASA plane/shuttle A couple of the interactive games/experiences were broken, but the rest were really neat. Most of the museum is in what looks like a big convention center. There are cool displays, moon landers, astronaut, and all sorts of other NASA decor. I do wish that there was a bit more to the museum. While it's a big space, it still felt sort of small in terms of museum attractions If you're hungry you can stop by the food court which is clean and offers a variety of foods and drinks to choose from. You can also peruse two gift shops for the perfect NASA souvenir Some tips: Be aware, the parking spaces are pay to park. I think this is ridiculous, but they charge your account on the way out. I also think this experience is somewhat over priced for what it is. Try to find a promo code and buy your tickets online Cheers!!

Out of This World Experience at Johnson Space Center! If you’re anywhere near Houston, this is an absolute must. The Johnson Space Center is more than just a museum—it’s the beating heart of NASA’s human spaceflight program. From the legendary Mission Control to astronaut training facilities, every corner pulses with history and innovation.

Booked our tickets via Klook for fast track but we actually arrived without needing to get a fast track entry anyway. Come early so that you could plan your itinerary there with the scheduled tram tour for NASA campus, Rocket Park and The Astronaut Training Facility. We unable to get the ticket for access to the Mission Control Room as it was sold out. It can be super hot outdoor so best to come early to kickstart the tram tour. We were lucky to see some deers roaming freely on the campus too. We went on Sunday so we've missed out the opportunity of witnessing real people doing their work and training in the Astronaut Training Facility area, so it was super quiet on Sunday. Recommended to purchase some NASA souvenirs at their main gift shop as they do have great selection of items.
