The Best Fried Chicken in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Nashville Coop specializes in Nashville-style hot chicken, served in strips, sandwich, or Texas toast form. Heat is densely packed into this chicken’s breading, but the level of spice is customizable: The MN Nice chicken accommodates those with a low capsaicin tolerance while the Cluckin’ Hot guarantees “24 hour pain.”" - Joy Summers

Minari, a New Korean Restaurant, Is Coming to Northeast Minneapolis - Eater Twin Cities

"Fans of Nashville hot chicken have been clamoring for Nashville Coop to expand to the south side of the Twin Cities metro (current locations are in St. Paul and Minneapolis’s Stadium Village neighborhood). That wish is finally coming true: The restaurant teased a new south metro location on Instagram, soliciting guesses from commenters before the exact address is announced this Friday, January 19. So far, Eagan has racked up the most votes." - Justine Jones

If you're craving something truly delicious, try the Nashville-style chicken — it's bursting with flavor! The chickens are fiery hot, 🔥 which makes it even more exciting. The taste is fantastic, and the service is quick and friendly. Just a small tip: paying a bit more attention to the cleanliness of the serving tables would make the experience perfect!

So far the best fried chicken (specifically nashville style) in the area. Around $15 for a meal that will will definitely fill you up. Love this place.

Think of Nashville Coop as a slightly higher end, local version of a fast-food chicken restaurant with an ethnic spice twist. The restaurant offers a simple menu served out of an immaculate fast casual chicken shop front. Generally, chicken tenders with the customer’s choice of rub (from mild to extremely spicy) served with Texas Toast, Coleslaw, and French Fries based on the meal, alongside a signature sauce. My mini coop (mild) Texas toast chicken tender meal came with all the fixings mentioned above, stacked tightly in a small basket. The Coleslaw tasted a little old but had a nice and springy crunch. The Texas Toast on the other hand was soft, scrumptious, and slathered in a rich layer of butter. The chicken itself was delicious, but a little dry. I also felt as if the rub was a bit too thick, grainy, and salty. The bed of French Fries provided a tasteful base to the meal alongside its tangy signature sauce. Taken altogether, the large portion was more than filling and provides enough for two meals. Though slightly more expensive than an ordinary fast food chicken shop, the large portion, quality food, and twist on a classic, provided by Nashville Coop make it a good option for those looking for a bit of a treat. A word to the wise: Its busier than you think. A large portion of this restaurant’s orders are pickups, and the line is longer than empty shop suggests.

Nashville Coop has great chicken with amazing seasoning. The chicken is always very juicy and has not overwhelming breading. The size of each piece of chicken is very satisfactory and offers a filling meal. The french fries are some of my favorites. Each meal comes with two sauce containers that are incredible. It is a creamy sauce that adds to the chicken or fries instead of taking away from the flavor. There is a variety of spice levels to select. You can purchase tenders, a sandwich, or a Texas toast meal. They also have sides of coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. In a separate occasion, I had the macaroni and cheese and didn't enjoy it much. It was very thick and bready and did not have a strong cheesy flavor.

MANAGEMENT, DO SOMETHING. We arrived at 8:34pm and got our order in at 8:37pm, 23 minutes before closing; and now we are still here at 9:18pm, 41 minute later, writing this review as the management has only allocated 2 workers during this shift. This is completely not on the staff at all, in fact I applaud them for working tirelessly and so diligently; but instead on the management’s inability of common sense to foresight that having 2 staff during a night shift in one of the biggest schools in the United States is absurd.

My favorite chicken sandwich place in campus, chicken was excellently cooked and seasoned, the sauce was great. However the buns were alright and maybe a different one would be good. Overall pretty solid and it’s halal!

Stopped by Nashville Coop before a Gophers game. The Texas Toast meal, at coop heat level, is my go to, with toast, chicken tenders, pickles, slaw, fries, and dipping sauce. Good heat on the chicken and the slaw helps cleanse your palate if you need it. I also ordered the mac and cheese. A very creamy mac and it was delicious! Great food, fast service, and a convenient location for all Gophers events!

Actually spicy chicken! I have continually been disappointed by the inaccurate spice level ratings in the twin cities but I'd say that the scale here is pretty accurate. I got the second from the hottest and it actually had a pretty good kick of spice. The chicken was cooked well- crispy coating on the outside, juicy meat on the inside. The fries were seasoned and the sauce that came with it was pretty good, zesty and creamy. Fries portions are generous. The combo is a little on the pricey side but does come with a drink, so I guess that puts it on par with other dining options around campus.

Yelp
Not sure what's going on with the reviews here but this place is bombbb. IT'S A MUST VISIT! This place actually follows the heat level so if you pick hot or painful, it's going to be spicy! The heat & spices just work together, I love it when you can still taste the spices through the heat. Theres a nice smokey taste to it. They also give you coop sauce on the side which makes it 100x BETTER. I always order the sandwiches with some Mac and cheese on the side. It's the perfect duo omg. The service is always great but the place is pretty small. They are working with what they have but that shouldn't stop you from visiting! :)

Yelp
We came here while in town for a few days and i needed something spicy to eat. I got the chicken sandwich that came with two big tenders seasoned in the hot heat level and boy it was hot. It's a dry rub seasoning not wet btw and comes with a side of coop sauce, coleslaw and pickles. We also tried the Mac n cheese which also had a mild spice to it. Food came quick and the portion size is big for two people to share. Wish they had more menu options beside tenders and a chicken sandwich but other than that it was good.

Yelp
I had Nashville Coop on my bucket list for a while now and living nearby meant that I would constantly pass by but never found the time to see what's up. Fast forward to now, what I really appreciate about this place is that their spices are dried and it's shaken on the chicken strips after having been fried! That's what makes it so unique and enjoyable. The Nashville prepared protein reminded me of Canes but with a spicy dehydrated chili seasoning that sets it apart. The fries reminded me that of Popeyes in the sense that the potatoes were seasoned/battered before fried and allowed for a crunchy but tasty bite. One item that cannot be divorced from this meal is the spicy Mayo concoction that is included in the strip basket. Spice ratings -- I ordered the top two heat levels and for me, the clicking hot is very much spicy, but with a very distinct kick to it. Its bearable but most definitely will kick your butt! The growlin' heat level would be the more popular order because its slightly milder, but still very hot! Nonetheless, the sliced pickles as seen in the photos serve a true purpose in this meal and pairs so well with the earthy Nashville spice. I'm old-fashion at heart, so a pickle spear would've been the optimal option. This place is a small nook near the UofM's campus next to Noodles and Company. I honestly have no idea whether the franchise itself offers parking but you can find street parking a block before. A good place to grab some food on the go! Above all, I love the variety in having a spicy chicken strip option to Canes & they will be seeing me again! Food: 5 Unique Spice: 5 Service: Normal Space: Tight Overall 4.5/5

Yelp
Two things that will be interesting about this review: 1) when I like chicken stripes they are typically thinner/crispier and 2) I very rarely eat something that I find to be too hot or spicy. I sought out Nashville Coop after a trip to Nashville where I had Nashville Hot Chicken for the first time. I fell in love. So after some research - I tracked down the Nashville Coop food truck. It was fantastic! So close to how I remember my experience in Nashville! The chicken is a little thicker than my "favorite" types of stripes, but still very good. I ordered mine "clucking hot" and it didn't disappoint. I ate there before a Gopher hockey game and my mouth/lips remained on fire during the game. It was VERY hot and the seasoning coated the inside of my mouth and my lips. They should serve milk... Also - the sauce that they serve with the chicken is dynamite. Super tasty meal overall but I might even tone down the heat next time!

Yelp
I had high hopes, but overall this place was "okay." Ultimately I was disappointed you are required to order the combo with drink, so it gets a little pricy quickly. I also didn't like how the sandwich was just chicken strips, a bun, and the sauces & pickles I had to assemble myself. The chicken tenders were hard to keep into the bun. The sandwich itself was pretty good once I got the sauce ratio correctly. Fries were okay - good texture but could use more seasoning. Staff didn't seem very friendly. The place was quiet with no music. Honestly felt bad for the staff. Maybe I'll be back, but I'll certainly keep looking for a better chicken sandwich.

Yelp
This is very, very good chicken. The restaurant is clean and the decor a bit... spartan. Not welcoming and comfy, but crisp and contemporary. When ordering, pay careful attention to the "heat" descriptions. They're pretty truthful. Once you've chosen your desired burn level, you will receive a boiling hot, freshly made order of chicken. No heat lamps here. The chicken inside is that hot, crispy coating is tender and juicy. The fries are of the seasoned/spicy variety as well. I'm going to caution you that if you dig into the fries first, you may not stop and end up filling up before you get to your chicken. Great restaurant, great chicken.

Yelp
Pretty decent find! I liked the chicken and breading. The ordering process is incredibly efficient. You pick a form factor and a heat level. Very simple. Wait time for food wasn't the fastest. It was definitely hot and fresh when the food arrived. I liked that you got seasoned fries, a little cup of pickles, and a portion of coleslaw. I enjoyed the coleslaw since it was creamy. The sauce was not exactly the shining star of the meal. It lacked...something. Price was a little more than I would have wanted to pay for chicken but the portion size is considerably generous.

Yelp
I LOOOOVE this place! My son is a big chicken tender fan and this is so far his fave tender spot. We had a friendly competition to see if Dave's Hot Chicken was better and they failed miserably! Nashville Coop blows them out the water! NC has great flavor, spice, cooked just right, with a nice crunch. Can't say the same for that Dave guy! Nashville Coop for the win!! The guy behind the counter does speak much or smile so if you're lookin for a vibe, you won't find that here but you will find some juicy beautifully seasoned chicken at a decent price! 10/10 highly recommend!

Yelp
Best hot chicken out there! The sauce is top notch and the fries are great as well. I recommend this spot to people at least once a week. It's that good. **ask for their recommendation on spice level the first time you go**

Yelp
Wish I could leave a review on the food but they weren't open even though it said they were online. Would be nice to update it to prevent a wasted drive.

Yelp
This place isn't terrible but I was expecting it to be really good. The portion sizes are plenty and for this area it's probably reasonable priced. The chicken was very heavy breaded which I don't like and did not really have balance of flavor. Fry's are good but the cold slaw was not good. The staff is really nice and welcoming is the reason for 2 stars. 9 out of 10 I won't go back mainly because of the chicken batter and flavor.

Yelp
Fries and chicken are alright (hot and cooked to order). Coop Sauce is a worse version of canes sauce and needs other sauce options to make the experience better. It was dead during dinner rush and there were many fruit flys. Probably would not come back, for there are better chicoption around
