The 17 Best Restaurants in George Town, Malaysia | Eater

"Buffets usually emphasize quantity over quality, but that isn’t the case with this self-serve Indonesian restaurant. Load your plate with beef rendang, soups, spicy dips, coconut milk curries, stir-frys, and vegetable dishes, and flash it at the staff who will calculate your bill. All the options are vibrant and fresh. Lunch only. [$]" - Austin Bush

Came here at 1:30pm and worry that some dishes may already gone. Saw the queue and the environment inside, there may not be a table even if I could get the food. So I took it to go. The food was delicious and some are still warm. The fried fish with the fried onions is excellent. Other dishes are also very good when combined with the fried onions for flavor. Truly a special place. Friendly people and at a great price too.

We arrived early, before 11.00 am and there was already a long queue. Some of the dishes was not ready yet. I find the food was acceptable but not like the typical nasi padang dishes you find in Jakarta. Price is very reasonable and boss are friendly too.

Highly recommend Malay food. Tried their signature fried fish, very fresh and flavourful.

First of all, the GRILLRD FISH! OH MA GAD! SO FREAKING TASTY. When it comes to overall food, you will not be disaapointed. It is made to perfection. Almost every dish is delicious. So many selections of food you wont get bored! Oh and the drinks here AMAZING! Kopi Peng and Milo Peng up there with the greats! The only problem is probably the fact that its always crowded. You prolly need to wait in a long line before you get a place to sit but despite the chaos, they have a well implemented system that makes sure tables are cleaned and ready for the next customers. Its definitely not a place to chill, but damn its worth the food alone!

(Halal) We reached this non-airconditional restaurant on weekday at about 1pm. All tables were occupied. First, we needed to follow the queue. 5 persons ahead of us and queue time about 5 minutes. Next, we told the server whether we wanted to dine in or take out, then collected the rice from the server. Third, we needed to take the dishes. Finally, we took our dish to a server at the counter table. The server would tell me how much to pay. Then, we needed to find a vacant table ourselves. We took 4 types of vegetables and 1 piece of chicken breast. Total RM10 was valued for money. Taste wise, it was slightly above average. The sambal for the ulam (raw vegetables) was great. We rated it was not too great to be masterpiece but good a laymen as economical lunch. 4 stars

Food is amazing, one of the best on the island, price is cheap, restaurant also has a remarkable & unpretentiously cool vibe (maybe it lies in the mix of old-school price boards, posters & fonts, the old kopitiam-like tables/chairs, the fade sizzling of cencaru being deep-fried, the bustling chatter from locals) - it is definitely the IT spot. Top recommendation would be their Ikan Cencaru Goreng Bawang, available 11.45am onwards (youll need to order it as it’s the only item cooked upon order) & Iced Cham. Parking can be a hassle but ive been here a couple of times, just pray, you’ll get a parking.
