"This affable spot is just outside of downtown San Luis Obispo. It's no surprise that Nate's on Marsh feels very welcoming—it's set within a converted residence. Inside is just as darling with palm-printed wallpaper and a Western/equestrian theme. Nate Long is the consummate host and the service is exceptionally warm, though it certainly doesn't hurt that the menu is loaded with classics and riffs on favorites that will have you coming back for more. Try the La Scala salad, a blend of shredded iceberg, salami, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, and crispy chickpeas, all tossed in a red wine vinaigrette, before tucking into hearty mains. Hand-cut pappardelle with Tablas Creek lamb ragu and walnut gremolata isn't fussy but it's fantastic." - Michelin Inspector

Another lovely meal from Nate’s on Marsh! The food is consistently delicious; the service is great; and the ambiance is unique and interesting. We usually get the Pork Chop as it by far one of my favorite places to enjoy this dish. We happened to come in on a Thursday evening and it was their 50% off any bottle of wine under $100. DANGEROUS! We had a lovely evening of delicious fine dining food and a little too much wine.

A really cool downtown place near the older part of SLO. Service and ambiance was great. Shrimp cocktail with large fresh shrimp was the best I’ve had in a long time. Mixed drinks are well done with excellent choices. Main courses are ok but nothing special, the menu is getting old and hasn’t really changed in over two years - basic beef, chicken, farmed salmon and average pasta choices. It’s time to mix things up a bit, make your entrees as exciting as your drinks.

This is one of our favorite places to eat when visiting our daughter in SLO. I recommend starting your meal with the rosemary focaccia muffins. I have never had better! We also had the soup of the day (I can't remember the name). It was creamy and full of flavor. It was so tasty. For cocktails, I ordered a White Lotus, and my daughter had the Porn Star (it's wasn't on the menu anymore, but you should ask for it). They were both top-notch drinks. I loved mine, but the Porn Star was just perfection. There was something incredible about the smell of it, There's an aroma of Tahitian vanilla when you lift it to your nose, and the melding of flavors was just right. For entrees, I had the spicy vodka rigatoni (it's not lightly spicy), and she had the mushroom carbonara, both delicious! We ordered dessert, too. The tiramisu was great. The spumoni pie was a show-stopper. It's beautiful and so yummy. We also ordered the "Secret Scoop" because we were intrigued. You have to guess the flavor. The server shared that the ice cream is always a new flavor and they're always unique and delicious. The decor is beautiful and the service is wonderful.

Very close to 5 stars. Let me start by saying the highlight of the evening was our waitress, Nadia. Not only was she efficient, but her wit/humor added to the fun of the group. The food and ambiance were good, just not 5 star worthy because of a few minor things. That said, I would recommend Nate's and will likely go back on my next visit.

Delicious lunch. We did not have a reservation, so despite the open tables, it took about 20 minutes to be seated. Our food took longer than usual to arrive, but when it did, it was fresh, and all the temperatures were spot-on. Looking forward to returning!

Google
Review for lunch. First and foremost the food and atmosphere are fantastic. It's a gorgeous cozy space with great lighting on a rainy day. The porchetta sandwich was rich, bright, and satisfying and all the pasta dishes were superb. My guess is they are training dinner wait staff at lunch because the server was kind of all over the place, maybe a bad day. Didn't mention items were out until we tried to order them, some drinks were wildly late, seemed to forget a few requests, and the flow of things was choppy and off kilter for a rather small number of guests dining. If he was training, great! He's getting there. He was friendly and passionate and will find his rhythm with experience. But a restaurant at this level can do better even during training. I look forward to coming for the dinner menu one day soon and I would be shocked if it wasn't 5 out of 5 as across the board. PS. Please please put the carbonara on the lunch menu T_T

We went in for a few drinks while we waited for friends to finish dinner. We didn’t want a crowded bar and got exactly what we wanted. A local friend recommended we go here and I am glad we did. The old house where the restaurant is at is quaint and the bar is small. It was exactly what we were looking for. We didn’t need a bunch of 20 year old teenagers jockeying for the bar tender’s attention. Kaley mixed up a great old fashioned and margarita. She was fun to chat with and quite the host.

Google
We were so excited to try this place, but it was just a little underwhelming. The decor, ambiance, and vibe is AMAZING. The food was all just alright. Our favorite thing was the Caesar salad, so cheesy and good dressing amount. We got 2 cocktails that were both good, but nothing special. For food we got the: pappardelle ragu and mushroom carbonara. The pappardelle was a 4/5 the pasta and lamb was great but the sauce was a bit too tomatoy (just not a lot more flavor than tomato) but the meat was so good and again the pasta was so fresh we loved it. The mushroom carbonara though, was not our favorite, probably a 2.5/5. It was unfortunately the texture you never want carbonara to be it wasn’t creamy and the sauce didn’t stick to the noodle, it was that chalky almost scrambled egg like texture. The pancetta was amazing in it, but the mushrooms didn’t really add anything and maybe took away from the flavor a bit, and we love mushrooms so we were so excited. Additionally we got the spumoni cake and it was pretty good! I loved the pistachio and chocolate portions, but the cherry was sorbet rather than a creamy cherry which was not what I totally wanted. It also had the regular maraschino cherries rather than the amarena which was disappointing. Overall our evening and food was good, not great. Probably won’t come back as we are not locals, but it was a super cute and romantic spot especially around the holidays! Oh and service was pretty good just sometimes slow.

Yelp
Fantastic food and great service. We were there over the winter holidays for dinner. The outside seating was still nice and comfortable with the heat lamp, and the food was terrific!

Yelp
Incredibly disappointing. My boyfriend and I came for dinner on a Saturday evening to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated on the outdoor patio to the right side of the restaurant, where a party of 15 women were celebrating a birthday. The group was loud and rowdy (which is not surprising, but the restaurant should avoid seating small groups near them -- especially if they know they are celebrating a special dinner like we were.) There were 4 other couples or small groups seated in the patio, and 2 of them eventually requested to be moved away to another location part way through their meals given how disruptive the room was. What was particularly disappointing was the lack of solid service. The first item on the menu, the Rosemary Garlic Focaccia Muffins, were apparently sold out before 8pm. Our appetizers (the chopped salad and broccolini) arrived quickly and were both quite good. But it was nearly an hour between the appetizers and our entrees (the Spicy Vodka Rigatoni and the Mushroom Carbonara pastas.) Our reservation was 7:45pm and our pastas did not reach the table until after 9:15pm. Our server extended a brief apology telling us the kitchen backed up about 15 minutes before our food arrived, leaving my boyfriend to wonder if they had forgotten to fire our order in the first place. Meanwhile we watched the party of 15 near us receive their entrees (including both pastas we had ordered) well before us, despite the fact they had ordered after we had. No manager came to speak to us. No one offered us a complementary drink or item during the extended delay. No one acknowledged the disruptive atmosphere for anyone in that patio area that wasn't part of the birthday party. By the time our pastas made it to the table we just finished quickly so we could ask for the bill, pay, and leave. If you're celebrating a nice occasion, I recommend skipping Nate's -- consider Ox + Anchor which was an infinitely better experience for us the previous night. Unless you are a 15 guest women's birthday party (or a cowgirl themed bachelorette party, as was happening at one of the interior rooms the same evening.) The staff clearly provided good service to the large party near us (taking multiple rounds of photos for them, offering a free birthday shooter to the guest of honor, and ensuring they were served in a timely manner) which is great for those women. But if you're not in a large group, you run a serious risk of being crowded out and ignored -- even if the staff knows you're celebrating something special.

Yelp
Cuisine was spectacular, service was outstanding, and the ambiance was embracing! Looking forward to returning often!

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! I planned a birthday trip to SLO with my partner and decided on Nate's for my birthday dinner, and I'm so happy that I did! The food was everything I wanted and more, plus it not only ended up being my birthday dinner but engagement as well! It was all happy vibes for us, they set up a little birthday sign on the table and welcomed us with complimentary champagne. For food, we ordered the polpette (meatball) and shrimp cocktail as appetizers. The polpette is a must and the shrimp was meaty and big so I was a fan. We shared the chopped la scala salad, spicy vodka rigatoni and ribeye as our entrees and this was filling for the two us. They were all really good, I would order each thing again. Plus they have complimentary bread and butter that went perfectly with the polpette. This place exceeded expectations for me and now it'll always be special since it was our first dinner as an engaged couple. Thanks Nate's on Marsh for helping make the night so memorable!

Yelp
Nate's was a wonderful dining experience for our party of four. First, the warm, ranch house ambiance with green flowery wallpaper, fireplace, cool bar, and western art makes for an elegantly enjoyable place to eat. The entrees all were good-- the rich and creamy pappardelle ragu, the thick, decadent pork chop lathered in parmesan polenta and bacony greens, and the popular lemon mafalde. We also had a tasty asparagus side. They have classic and imaginative, yet not over the top cocktails, plus an ample, impressive list of wines both local and foreign. Definitely worth checking out if you're visiting SLO.

Yelp
The food was great, ambience was nice and the waiters were kind! I think I got a mocktail or some other non alc drink and that was great as well. Def recommend for a girls night out or even a date night; the ambiance is perfect for it.

Yelp
Nate's is simply the best , from the charming ambiance to the exceptional food everything is perfect. Too few places in SLO do a proper brunch. There's a reason why this place oils always packed. I got the biscuit Bennie, it is not a traditional Benedict --it's better! The biscuit is so flaky and crunchy, the mortadella adds texture and savoryness. The soft boiled egg on top is decadent and the greens on the side cut through the richness. YUM!

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - After a FULL day at the wineries, we tried to come here for a light meal. But ended up leaving so SO full! We finished everything except the complimentary bread. Butter Leaf Salad - Home run with my wife. She really enjoyed this salad. Pappardelle Ragu - My dish. It was good, but it did not taste like the pasta was made in house. Mushroom Carbonara - My daughter's dish. She is a huge mushroom fan and enjoyed her meal. No room for dessert. Atmosphere - A house converted to a restaurant. Maze like. Clean, organized, cool decor. Indoor and outdoor dining available, but tonight was just indoor. Clean and good size bathrooms in the rear of the building. Small full bar. Open 5 days a week from 11:30am to 9pm, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Plenty of free street parking. I believe they have a small parking lot in the back of the building. Service - We walked in today, no reservations. The hostess said it would be a half an hour wait until we would be able to get a table. But within 10 minutes, she called us in. Travis did a good job. Professional. There was a very small issue with the check (different price charged versus the price on the menu) and he corrected it without hesitation. Price - $75 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success in SLO since 2021.

Yelp
A swanky & aesthetically pleasing spot that's great for drinks and dinner! The restaurant's interior and decor is curated perfectly, creating a fun atmosphere for a date or group outing. Two of us walked in on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and were seated immediately. Our host and server were welcoming and polite, but service wasn't anything extraordinary. I ordered the Chopped La Scala salad with chicken. The ingredients tasted fresh and I really enjoyed the artichoke hearts and chickpeas. My friend ordered a cup of soup and spicy vodka rigatoni, and also really enjoyed it. My friend had ordered the pasta with chicken, but the kitchen forgot it. It took a little while for them to bring it out, however our server offered a free scoop of gelato for the mess up which was nice! Overall, Nate's is a great option if you're looking for a good menu and a good vibe. I would definitely come back to try their cocktails and dinner menu, as i feel it would be more of a hit if we went in the evening.

Yelp
I don't get why this place is so popular. Service was poor and food was just okay. With so many other places around, I'm sad I wasted a meal here. -Complimentary Bread: Disgusting. How can they serve such disgusting bread? -Burrata: Lazy. Just a ball of mozzarella, very little cream/richness in the middle, topped with a compote. -Potato Leek Soup: Always delicious, of course. -Lemon Mafalde: The waiter described this dish as being different than what you would find elsewhere. Not the case, was unimpressive. I added salmon to it and I will say, they know how to cook a piece of salmon here. I'm glad it wasn't overcooked and the skin was perfectly crisp.

Yelp
Nate's on Marsh is a stand alone bungalow right outside of the downtown area. Both the facade and interior are very cute. We started with the skillet sausage ($25). It is an alle pia pork sausage coil on a bed of polenta topped with veal bordelaise and mild peppers. Of all the things we ordered, this was my least favorite only because the flavors tasted very muted. I didn't love the soft texture of the sausage and peppers were also mild if that is indicative of the dish. The entrees, on the other hand, were stellar. At the suggestion of our waiter, I ordered the lemon mafalde ($24) with chicken (+$8.00) which is something I normally wouldn't have gravitated toward, but no regrets here. Mafalde are wide flat pasta ribbons with scalloped edges. These are dressed in lemon beurre fondue and topped with English peas, ricotta, croutons crumble + fresh mint. The lemon beurre sauce tasted bright and delicately coated the pasta ribbons. This dish was unexpectedly so good. We also ordered the house lasagna ($22) for good measure. The version here deviates from the traditional way of lasagna layering and instead piles hand cut sheet pasta into a tightly woven stack. It's cooked in a beef, pork, and veal bolognese, Gorgonzola béchamel, mozzarella, and lemon-basil pesto. Absolutely delish. The hand cut sheet pasta are thinly cut and stacked to make a little lasagna slice. The space, ambiance, food - a 10 out of 10. And the service? Perfection. Bookmark this place for your next SLO trip.

Yelp
Nate's has been on the Michelin Guide, so I obviously had to give it a try. I thought my experience was just ok, but I'm willing to try again. We went for Brunch and had reservations beforehand. Our server recommended the Bacon, Egg, & Cheese, so we ordered that. It didn't come with bacon, kind of confused how they forgot because it's in the name. The calamari was fried to perfection and the aioli complimented it really well. The seasonal soup was Crab Bisque, boy let me tell you. I keep thinking about that soup and want to go back just for it. One of the reasons I wanted to try this place was because of how fabulous their tiramisu looked...but they didn't have any. So to fulfill my sweet treat we got gelato and it hit the spot but I think the tiramisu would've been better. Next time, I want to go back for dinner and see if it's better. ig: @cravingswithcat

Yelp
In the last month, I've had the pleasure of eating at Nate's twice. One dinner, and then this past weekend, a lunch. Both times were absolutely excellent. I made a reservation both times. When we went for dinner (a Thursday night), it was definitely necessary. I think Cal Poly had some graduation festivities going on. I had the salmon piccata and we shared the charcuterie. For this past lunch I had the bolognese. Everything was delicious. Service is great and I thought the prices were bang on for the type of establishment. It's fancy without being pretentious and very cozy. The patio (where we had lunch) was really nice. Since we're in SLO twice a month or so, I'll add Nate's into our rotation. I look forward to trying a bunch of their other dishes.

Yelp
I bought e gift cart for $150. and they didn't have any record of it when my son went to the restaurant.

Yelp
Consistently outstanding! We've visited Nate's several times, and it just keeps getting better. The food is exceptional--my favorites are the pork chop, the fresh and flavorful arugula salad, and the incredible tiramisu to finish. The service is always attentive and friendly, and the ambiance is the perfect mix of cozy and elegant. Highly recommend!

Yelp
From the outside, Nate's on Marsh doesn't look to be the most elegant restaurant you'll dine at. But we were surprised to walk in and see how much bigger the place is + its beautiful decor! Especially loved how the color green was the main decor color theoughout the restaurant. They have both inside and outside dining. We chose inside! We were in awe and agreed that Nate's on Marsh has the best interior compared to other restaurants in SLO. We ordered the Lemon Malfade pasta to share. It was really good and especially loved the peas! Definitely coming back for dinner time to try their cocktails and food :)

Yelp
Great service. Lovely menu. Good wine list and interesting cocktails. Wish they had air conditioning. Delicious butter lettuce salad. I love anything with pistachios. The salmon was crisp. You can't miss with butter. The asparagus was overcooked. My friends had a beautiful pork chop and lemon ricotta pasta. I always wonder why they serve four pieces of bread for three people. Restaurants never take the number of people in the party into consideration. Charcuterie platter was meh.

Yelp
I made a reservation for 4 a week ahead of time. I called the day of the reservation and added 2 more for inside seating. It was very accommodating, nice and we appreciated it. We arrived early and they had a table waiting for us. We sat by the fireplace in a dimly lit room. The Christmas decorations were already up and the fireplace was turned up to make it nice and warm. We Above the fireplace there are paintings of cowboys and a horse. I'm not sure if it is on purpose or it's just the old house but there is a very subtle smell of old rustic farm house in the room. If you've ever spent any time on a farm you'll understand what I mean. It wasn't unpleasant or bad, it transported me back to the Midwest. The server came by and explained the specials and took our drink orders. I had a blended margarita and it was ok. We also ordered the meatball which is gigantic and delicious. For an entree I had the mushroom pasta and I added chicken. The mixture of ingredients was everything I expected it to be. Our server was knowledgeable, prompt, and friendly. It was a great night and this restaurant lived up to everything I imagined it to be. We had a great night. Thanks Nate's!

Yelp
A group of 6 of us had dinner on the patio on Friday night and had a wonderful time! We had the burger, the salmon piccata, the lemon pasta, the rigatoni, the butter salad, and the giant meatball--everything was flavorful and delicious! service was prompt and friendly. The only slight issue is the noise level--it can be difficult to hear at times. Definitely make a reservation, because this is a popular place!

Yelp
Got a last minute reservation on Labor Day weekend and were so happy to experience Nate's on Marsh. It's a converted old home with dining tables scattered throughout--a funky interior and an amazing selection of cocktails and specialty liquor. Loved the Black Manhattan and our waiter was able to easily explain the difference between it and a regular Manhattan...had something to do with artichoke but can't remember the details. Service was a little erratic but the food more than made up for it. The octopus was perfectly cooked and delicious, we all enjoyed our salads but the highlight of the menu is the pasta. They use Etto pasta which is an artisan pasta maker in Paso Robles and it was perfect! Best dish of the night was the Pasta Malfade--a delicious lemon and riccotta, green peas pasta. I'd drive back over the hill just to order it again.

Yelp
Probably the best pasta dish I had all year!! Cacio e Pepe - that is the one to get!!!

Yelp
Visiting SLO for a pre anniversary trip and had dinner at Nate's. When you arrive, the place is literally a house with the cutest pumpkin porch decor (I'm sure it's for the fall). The inside is super nice too, elegant simple. We checked in and they took us to our table where they had a cute postcard telling us happy anniversary. We were seated inside but they also have a patio section and a bar. They gave us complimentary champagne. Our server was attentive and nice. They give you bread with butter. We ordered the polpette (a big meatball) and it was so good, we loved it! Our drinks were good. I got one of the house favs (lemon freeze), it was an actual freeze! I ordered the rigatoni and it's a good size portion, I didn't even finish it. I loved that it had broccolini. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop and it was so tender. It came with sautéed greens and mash potatoes. We were so full for dessert, but it seemed like people love their dessert because they were out of 2 of their desserts. If I'm ever in SLO, I will be back!

Yelp
Very busy on a saturday night- thankfully we booked a reservation in advance which we highly recommend doing. Great for a special occasion or date night ambiance. As it was very busy and bustling it does get a little loud, but it's not something we had an issue with. Very cute place- looks like an old townhouse/ cottage exterior and interior brightly decorated with funky tropical pattern wallpaper and quirky decor. Service was very friendly and upbeat- puts you at ease, we had a few cocktails and three courses- i accidentally ordered a french 75 instead of a french martini and the waiter was kind enough to switch out for me even though it was not their fault- very much appreciated. We shared the starter of burrata and polpette between us, the meatball in the sauce was divine, perfectly cooked and a perfect amount of sauce, good accompaniment to the bread and burrata. For the mains we chose pork chop and the cacio de pepe, both very delicious meals, even after all this food and cocktails we managed to fit in room for a dessert to share to satisfy the sweet tooth- a delightful spumoni ice cream cake (one of us had never had ice cream cake before! And it won't be the last time either) very well presented and a perfect end to a date night out.

Yelp
Every item we ordered was so good! Our server Blair did a great job. We sat in a back room of this super cute house.

Yelp
I came back with family after raving about my last visit to Nate's on Marsh. Unfortunately, I think we came on an off night. The house was extremely hot and uncomfortable and there were a few mistakes that put me off. First, half of us were given lunch menus and others dinner menus. It took a bit of time to get it sorted. Blair was our server and wasn't too friendly. My cousin was given the wrong soda but was too shy to say anything. Lastly, the table next to us also had little kids and a staff member came and gave them stickers. This left my daughters feeling sad they didn't get offered stickers- it made for a little awkward situation but we didn't say anything. All together, the food was great but the experience was lacking.

Yelp
Old school steakhouse with an extensive wine selection and all the classics. Not much of an adventure but generally well executed. Except that was the toughest steak I've ever had.

Yelp
What an amazing establishment. We made reservations to ensure we got a seat right when we showed up. The server was awesome and very informative on the menu. He even shared with us that the portion sizes are pretty generous and he was spot on. We split the beet salad and had our own main course. I went with the salmon and it was cooked perfectly. It also came out of the kitchen HOT, which I appreciated. My wife had the pesto spaghetti and the plate was spotless. The wine is served chilled and the ambiance is something special. Cannot wait to go back!

Great atmosphere, italian food that really just gives you a hug. Drinks were amazing and service was great. The lasagna was delicious it was like biting into butter! Pastas that are made in-house are noted. The Cesar salad is massive! Nothing less than perfection, try it, you will not regret it.

Yelp
This is my first go at Nate's. I will go again and order different. Right now we are at a 3.5 out of 5. 1. Ambiance - 5/5. The holiday decor just made this place off the charts festive. It's a cool niche decor in general. 2. Host- 5/5 I called to update my reservation- he was so accommodating. When we arrived she was lovely. 3. Service/ 4/5 Solid. 4. Martinis. 5/5. The bartender knows how to make a killer martini. 5. Food. We went For martinis and wanted a few dishes to share . 4 adults, one 15 year old. I think we just ordered wrong. Burger (for the 15 year old) - he said good. Bacon was thick and underdone. Polpo. We shared the octopus. The octopus was cooked perfect-tender. But everything else was underwhelming with it- the fingerling potatoes paired with it were, meh. Lemon in the side with a more Mediterranean flair would have given it ellevation. Along with grilled crusty bread. The polpete was our fave. So good! The antipasto platter was very underwhelming. Mortadella, and cappicola were low quality. Not much else, and when we asked for bread we thought we would be getting the same rustic bread the antipasto came with. We received these rolls that were not at all what we expected- very low quality bread that didn't seem to fit with the feeling Nate's projects. So, we will have to go back at some point in 2026 to experience different fare . Thanks for making your restaurant so festive, and inviting!

Yelp
This place came highly recommended. They weren't open until today - Thursday. First the ambience- I sat in the bar area it was incredibly comfortable and the locals are super friendly both sides of my table wanted to chat and swap stories with the out of towner - and I loved it. Second let's discuss the service- I happened to have the Westways (AAA travel guide) bartender/waitress and she was fantastic because of offering recommendations on the two plates I was between. The whole staff from the host accommodating my lack of reservations to everyone was ready and present for any request. Lastly food - the house specialty is great and I could see on a beautiful summer day how that would be cool and refreshing. Potato Leek soup is my absolute favorite soup (remember when CPK had it? They don't anymore so here's the place!) and theirs is awesome! I even took a container home! I chose the spaghetti pasta for my dinner because I've ate so much all week. It had so much flavor. I really thought it would be dull, just from other experiences but this is lively with flavor in each bite. I really wanted to try the Salmon Piccata but I had no room! Next time - it's on my list and I can't wait to try it! Enjoy this cozy comfortable and delicious place - I'll definitely see you soon!

Yelp
First time visit. Thursday afternoon happy hour. The decor! The vibe! Love love love it. I had the Aviation cocktail from the happy hour menu. Not many bars offer this cocktail. Nate's on Marsh's version is the best one I've had. Would definitely order again. We also had two apps from the happy hour menu which were good. The zucchini fries and a mozzarella app I can't remember the name of. Will 100% be back for dinner!!

Yelp
My introduction to Nate's was on a film shoot. Nate was so kind and generous to let the filmmakers use his gorgeous restaurant to shoot a top-quality short film. I felt privileged to be able to act in such a beautiful building and as I waited for set changes, I discovered the menus! Ohhh, I immediately sent photos to my husband. Yes, we went to Nate's on Marsh the very next day. The cocktails were superb, as well as the food, including an amazing Tiramisu. We have returned many more times, as there are many more Spritzes and many more meals to try!

Yelp
The food here was delicious, but I wouldn't say it's exceptional or a great value given the price. The issue with being in the Michelin guide is it sets expectations high, and higher prices follow, and you really have to be quite exceptional to meet those expectations. The service was fine to start, but then there were long periods where our server went missing. It worked out fine because we were celebrating our daughter's birthday and wanted to talk and spend time without feeling rushed, but the service wasn't on the level of a nicer restaurant. The burrata was very good, though a couple/few slices of bread would have improved it (we had to eat burrata by itself after the bread was gone), the polpo (octopus legs) were cooked well, but very lightly seasoned. So you could on one hand argue that it allowed the natural taste of the octopus to come through, or on the flip side argue that it was borderline bland. The pasta was very good - with the lamb ragu quite delicious with the right amount of meat. The torte was good too - nicely sized and not too sweet. So we were generally happy with the experience and food. Considering the price which puts it more in the special occasion category, I'd be equally fine coming here again or trying another higher tier restaurant to compare.

Yelp
Service was great. My chicken was tender. The spaghetti was just okay. The flourless cake was devine

Yelp
Our first time at Nate's, we noticed a guy going around to the tables chatting with the dinner guests. When we left, he came up to us and greeted us also. It turned out that this guy is Nate himself! Born and bred local guy, Nate's passion for Farm to Table is contagious. We have since come here several times. Tonight we had out must have Octopus appetizer. It's amazingly tender, perfectly crisp on the outside, and oh so soft on the inside. The sauce is so good, that it cannot be left on the plate! We had tonight's special was fresh made local Reginette pasta with a lemon cream sauce with Salmon, which was dreamy. This has become my favorite restaurant in San Luis Obispo

Yelp
Nate's on Marsh is a cozy little restaurant in the heart of San Louis Obispo. The home has been converted to a smartly decorated country club theme with a touch of southern hospitality. I love that they went for the theme not only in the decor, but also in the cocktail options. After a long hot day our waitress recommended the frozen Limoncello. The cold cocktail was a refreshing hit that I would do again. We ordered the burrata and bread. The peaches with the burrata were sweat and a good complement to the burrata. The plums that were served alongside the peaches needed to be a bit riper. My daughter and I have been eating the whole trip so we decided to share the Caesar salad and the pappardelle ragu. The Cesar was delicious and that one went down real easy but the pappardelle didn't quite hit the mark. I have been lucky to try some excellent Ragu and this one did not come close. It was lacking flavor and the pasta itself was a bit heavy. I'm yet to write off Nates for one dish. I'm planning on going back to try some of the other dishes that looked inviting and some of those cocktails that I wasn't able to enjoy. I see more Nate's in my future.

Yelp
It was our first time at Nate's on Marsh. The food was exquisite, the cocktails were well-balanced and the staff is super inviting and some of the fastest service around! Literally I was in awe of how quickly everything came out! Did I mention the ambiance is absolutely stunning!!! We had the Petite Filet Minon, the Bone In Pork Chops with Polenta, Antipasto Charcuterie and some of the delicious cocktails off the menu such as the White Lotus, the Penicillin & the Lemon Freeze .. to finish our dinner we had a delicious Spumoni Icecream Cake! We were blown away by this gem that is well known with the locals! This gorgeous restaurant in the downtown SLO in a must visit!! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Everything was perfect from start to finish. The cocktails were almost as good as the amazing service. The burrata nectarine appetizer started us off, butter leaf salad with pistachios, grapefruit and gorgonzola and pasta dishes made with fresh pasta. Finish with port and tiramisu made an anniversary dinner to remember. Thank you Nate and Ethan for a wonderful evening. We will be back soon so we can have the Mighty Cap Mushroom Carbonara.

Yelp
Nate's on Marsh is a beautiful venue in what originally must have been a home, giving you the cozy vibes as soon as you step into the dining area. Although it has only been around for a few years (2021, I believe), the way they've decorated with vintage feeling wall paper and dark wood throughout the dining spaces makes you feel like this restaurant could have been around for decades upon decades. The service is excellent, what can be considered "white tablecloth service". (Word is they made the Michelin guide.) Although not SUPER formal (i.e. no jacket required), check out the FAQ's on their website for apparel guidance. (Essentially, avoid being super informal with things like athletic apparel, flip flops, and such.) I wore jeans with a nice top and shoes that dressed up the 'fit, and felt perfectly comfortable in the space. I saw people wearing outfits similar to mine, and others a little more dressed up, as this can be considered a special occasion restaurant. Noticed as we were seated that some tables had the restaurant's post card with hand written notes wishing people happy anniversary and happy birthday. A nice touch and definitely the type of place to celebrate a special milestone! The food ordered was delicious, including a Caesar salad...the real deal style, so prepare for anchovies, a yum at our table. It also had giant house made croutons that added a delicious touch to the salad. I enjoyed a very tasty crab bisque, which I believe was one their specials for that night. Had a touch of spicy, which I personally loved but thought the server might have warned about since some people don't enjoy it and it's not necessarily expected for a traditional bisque. My group and I each enjoyed our pasta dishes one more delicious than the next. The menu also includes non-pasta entrees like steak and seafood dishes. The website says they have a patio. Not sure if they meant just the front or if there's more outdoor seating in the back, but I recommend the beautiful indoor or you'll miss half the experience. The outdoor seating I saw was just two tables with patio umbrellas in what can be considered the "front yard". (Fine for those who need outdoor dining but not particularly cozy or picturesque.) No dogs even if you choose to dine outside, per their website. (Except for service animals.) Nate's on Marsh is at the edge of downtown, far enough away that it's less crowded but close enough to still take a stroll in downtown to walk off that delicious dinner. My only regret, I was too full to try dessert. A reservation is probably best, as the restaurant became quite full quite quick from the time we arrived for our early (5pm) reservation to the time we left. I can see why it's so popular: A beautiful venue and a beautiful menu...highly recommend and can't wait to make my return!

Yelp
I love this charming restaurant in SLO! I have had lunch and also weekend brunch at Nate's and have elected the patio twice and inside once. Both inside and outside dining locations are impeccably decorated and feel intimate as well as being warm and comfortable! But, the amazing food keeps me craving a return visit! The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful too. I adore the Cacio e Pepe pasta, bolognese, burger and spicy chicken sandwich!

Yelp
You do not want to miss out Nate's! It was worth the wait! We had a little graduation dinner with family. Our party ordered different foods from the menu. I tried the Chopped La Scalia salad and the Pappardelle Raghu pasta paired with their house white wine. It was perfection. The chef had transformed the dishes to perfection. The burger, grilled octopus, steak and foods our group ordered were perfection. What was nice about this restaurant is that it's elegant yet relaxed and does not feel pretentious for a Michelin rated restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive. The menu is simple to navigate and food descriptions are easy to understand. Overall, we had a memorable and fantastic dinner .

Yelp
A night of celebration thwarted by the horrible service, dismal food, and unsettling ambiance. We were all excited to get together for a multi family dinner to celebrate a graduation, Father's Day, and a child's accomplishment at Nate's. We've had such a wonderful experience at this specific location when it was previously Gennaro's Grill and Garden. Much to our dismay, Nate's was the total opposite. When we first walked up to the building, there was an off putting odor by the sidewalk. I initially thought that it might just be some kind of pungent plant outside. However, the odor only became more overwhelming when we walked inside. After about 20 minutes, the smell did go away as we eventually got acclimated to the odor. The hostess was prompt when we arrived and jovial. She seated us in one of the back rooms and jokingly asked us to get a hold of her if our waiter didn't "take care of us". We should have read the premonition when presented as he sure did "take care of us". I believe our waiter name was Michael. He did greet us and gave us our menus then fled off to the table behind us. He gave us ample time to review the menu and he definitely kept his interactions at a minimum. When we inquired about two specific wines, he claimed that everything was good. So, we ordered our wine and asked if we can start with some appetizers and the kids meals as they were hungry. He takes our order and then returns to the table behind us to cater to their needs. About 5 minutes later he comes back with our wine and glasses. Another 10 minutes pass and he serves us our appetizers and kids meal. He literally drops it off and says he'll be back to take our order. We goes back to the back to get a birthday treat for the table behind us. We all cheer for the birthday celebrant and watch Michael disappear. Mind you that by now it's been about 25 minutes since we've been seated and our order still hasn't been taken. Michael literally forgot about us as we had to flag him down another 5 minutes later to take our order. When we do he looks a little perturbed as if we were bothering him. (I just realized that I never posted this review. Our visit here was on 5/1/21. I stopped writing because it frustrated me so much.). I hope that things have changed since our visit.
