Fourth of July Foods, Ranked by How Much They Make Me Love America | Eater

"The annual hot‑dog eating spectacle is depicted as the ultimate expression of nostalgic, stadium‑tinged Americana — a ritual that invites extreme consumption (including tips like soaking buns in lemonade or beer to make cramming easier) while simultaneously invoking fond memories of summer outings and the darker health anxieties associated with processed meats." - Jenny G. Zhang

Google
What a waste of money. $20 for a ”jumbo hotdog” I saw the menu it was like 12 or $14 but my meal ended up $20. They overcharge me/upgrading me for a bigger hot dog that wasn’t even bigger. It tasted like it was boiled. The cheese and chili had me burping and farting all day. So smelly they need to update their products. I will never go back here again. Like this is not good food. This is so processed poop and gut bearing food. I can’t believe how bad this was. I expected something way better than this. Now the guy who gave me my food was very nice. But the cashier knew exactly what he was doing with upselling me without telling me.

Michael Schindler

Google
well, the foods were not temping out for a few people that were sitting down in the dining area-myself included. turn times are slower for a fast food place but it is a big varied menu. philly cheesesteak was fine, airport pricing… overall not a bad choice, the guyvnext to me said his chili dog was hot and was good. The tables were typically not very clean (rapid turnover)

Rick Pendergrass

Google
I expected more from the Hot Dog chain. We got a weiner that had been reheated a couple times. The egg, cheese, sausage breakfast sandwich was great. Also perfectly cooked hash browns.

Joshua L. Gann

Google
Garbage…Terrible…I regret stopping in. Double Bacon Cheeseburger…Gross‼️‼️Not even sure it was ground beef‼️‼️ Fries…Gross‼️‼️ Soggy clumps of something???? First time, Never again

Google
So I watched the staff as I was waiting for my food...I could tell the person working the cash register was tracking but the person actually making the food was not. I knew there was going to be an issue, so I sat that and watched her bag our food and noticed she forgot one of our fries. She spent a lot of time going to the back. I do not know if she was on her phone or what, but her attention to detail was lacking, and I just had a feeling our order would be off, and it was. The person at the register corrected it for us.

Google
The fries were soggy and gross, they charge $1.67 if you want to add lettuce and a single tomato slice, and they gave my wife food poisoning. They also upgraded food items without telling you, so they put large fries on the order when we said regular, and they never mentioned that original charge for the lettuce and tomato.

Rafael Boersma

Google
When you have been traveling for a long day and you want to grab a bite. This is the perfect place. The people are friendly and my burger contained real lettuce and tomatoes. Lovely

Rana Zakerzadeh

Google
If you HAVE to eat here (to be honest there are not many other dining options), I recommend the hot dog 🌭 but not the burger. Burger meat had a very low quality. A little pricey for what you get but it’s expected for the airport. Two combo ( hotdog and burger) was $30 including tip. Fries were good and portions are large.

Yelp
Was at airport for lay over. Had a hot dog and fries. I most enjoyed the fries and the little fork that comes with it.
google avatar

Vaughn M.

Yelp
What could improve? Everything! Make better hotdogs. Drop the crinkle cut fries. The hotdogs was too small and kinda tasteless. 3 bites and it was gone. Not that I enjoyed it. When you get the chilli and cheese...I think you have to take solid bits to avoid the mess. Never again though and I am a true hotdog guy.

Yelp
Big disappointment. We don't have Nathans around us so we were are the airport and decided to give it a try. The cashier, Marc Eli was as sweet as he could be. Definitely great customer service human. Asked us how we were doing. Kudos to him for being great while others in his crew were below average. It was all down hill from there. Waited way too long while others who ordered after us received their food. One server filled the empty napkin containers. Good for her. Thanks. Then she proceeded to smash down the "counter trash" can with her gloved hands and then went back to bagging food - like she didn't just touch TRASH!!! Gross. One person, not sure if she was a supervisor or not, yelled at an older lady who prepared a hamburger "WRONG." Really inappropriate. Just ask her to redo it admonish her later maybe during her review? None of the people behind the counter were in any hurry to get the orders out. It's called "fast food" for a reason. And we're at the airport-we have someplace to go! We were #83 and they took well into the 90s before we got our food (this may have been because I ordered the Impossible Burger). My problem with Nathan's isn't the food - I loved my burger - but the service - besides the cashier as mentioned - was the worst I've experienced in recent memory. These servers just don't care. Getting to my burger though, it was terrific! It had BBQ sauce that was so perfect. Also Dave loved his hot dogs. So what I'm saying is, if you are fine with crappy service and possibly trash on your food, try Nathan's at Miami airport. There are so many other choices that I'll try one of those next trip. Do you

Jason T.

Yelp
One star for the fries and one for polite staff. But, the LOUSY, BURNT, CRUNCHY, NASTY burger we got is -5 stars; leaving you one for your rating. Typical, quick serve airport restaurant, but we must have been too close to closing time. Crunchy LTO on my burger, YES! Crunchy burger on my LTO, not so much. $30.59 WASTED!!!

Yelp
I was in a pinch for a quick bite to eat and settled on a hot dog. There nothing special to write home about. It a hot dog and they provide all the toppings.
google avatar

Tim A.

Yelp
First time at Nathan's Famous. Didn't have the courage to try their New York hotdogs at the Miami airport : ( I went with the safe bet--chicken strips. They were flatter than normal strips, but hot and tasty. The fries were classic crinkle cut, but a little soggy. Also advertised that they've been making lemonade for 100 years. I can confirm, it tastes just like mom used to make!
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
Slowest service I've seen at any fast food establishment. I stood in line for 10 minutes watching workers mindlessly rolling hot dogs and staring at receipts with incorrect orders. At the pace they were going it was going to take about 30 minutes for me to get one hot dog. I walked out of line. I'm going to assume this a result of being underpaid and poor management. I was unimpressed by Nathan's.

Madison P.

Yelp
6 people working but no one cooking, 1 register open, and only 2 things on the menu available. Menu is a lie and no condiments. Bad service is killing this place out of business.

Yelp
Best part about this location is that, for me at least, it was fast. Just ordered the two dogs, fries and a drink it it was ready before I self-filled my fountain drink. Other nice thing about this location is that it is right across the hall from the American Airlines' Admirals Club (which is a pretty nice one for them). The hot dogs were good, not great. Don't have the same snap that the ones in Coney Island have but good enough for a quick bite if you are about to be stuck on a long flight home. The fries were a bit mushy but did taste okay. Ketchup helped on those. They have the 100-in-1 fountain machine so pick your poison. Mine is usually Diet Coke which I know I should quit. But, when you are traveling and running between flights, the caffeine is greatly appreciated. If you are in a hurry and need a dog, here's your place. They also have other options that I think would take longer to prepare so plan your trip accordingly. Enjoy!!!

Yelp
Slow slow slow and they forgetting orders. Dont bother ordering online because they wont start making it until you ask where it is. Update: Food was meh
google avatar

Phil P.

Yelp
Over Priced Garbage Food. Yeah. That pretty much sums it up. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
google avatar

Kurt S.

Yelp
I understand it's in an airport but it just wasn't that good. I had time, so I didn't mind the line of people waiting to put in their order. when it was my turn, I ordered a hotdog and fries. The hot dog was mediocre, definitely not worth the $6, (or whatever the price was). It was small and honestly a normal hotdog, nothing special about it. I was hoping for a mind-blowing hotdog from the infamous Nathan's, but this was not the case. If I'm back at any airport that has a Nathan's, I'm going to stay clear of it and go somewhere else for food.

Russell D.

Yelp
SLOW, SLOW, SLOW! Worst EVER! Been in line for over 45 minutes! Employees have ZERO sense of urgency at all! I didn't even get to order. The employees seem put out that there is customers! They kept asking "is that it?" So annoying!
google avatar

Tiffany B.

Yelp
My husband bought 2 hotdogs with fries. He loved it! He mentioned that the hotdog has a crisp to it when bitten. I tasted the fries and they were so good. They tasted like home cut fries, which are my favourite. The service was good. I recommend.
google avatar

Cheryl N.

Yelp
The hot dog was chewy, I don't remember them tasting like this elsewhere n at home when I bbq what I bought in supermarkets. The fries were ok my husband said, I don't eat fries. Plenty of eateries are near by to try.
google avatar

Atul S.

Yelp
Food - 4.5/5 Price - 2/5 Tried chilly cheese dog and wings. Both tasted pretty awesome. Wings are crispy and worth trying. Hot dog for $5. Overall not so economical when pizza hut on same concourse is giving you complete pizza for $8-9.
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
Not a terrible place to eat from and show ain't the best joint to eat from either. Food was fresh and made rather quickly, I was surprised they even served burger and wings there I'm just used to Nathan's Hot Doggs should I say. -1 star for the tip machine and -1 star for no napkins
google avatar

David V.

Yelp
Best place to get an overcook hamburger that taste burned, chili cheese fries that taste right of a can. So if enjoy this type of food this is the place for you. I have to say the staff is friendly and service was quick as i had to go from one gate to another in a short time.

Yelp
Soda Fountainnnnnn! SITREP When stuck inside Miami International Airport (MIA), Nathan's will do the trick for a quick meal while waiting for your connecting flight. THE SETUP I had just got in from Georgetown, Bahamas and was staring a six-hour layover before my flight to Phoenix took off. I was gonna need SOMETHING to fill the hold so it wouldn't growl. Props to Nathan's for having a variety of items - that I like to call "consumable goods" - to enjoy while waiting. I settled on the crispy chicken sandwich and the loaded fries are both well above average (using places such as Burger King and Carls Jr. as comparable metrics). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nathans-famous-miami?select=VsYwHCzlyky7l-FfFw_IFQ&reviewid=8UN7-gKaJVNpuN8Cgt7pHQ They ARE on the pricey side, but on par with the inflation that tend to see at any other place with a "captured audience" with no place else to go (Arenas, Festivals, Airports, etc.). BONUS - FOUNTAIN DRINKS! Now I probably don't appreciate this situation as much as I do if not for the fact that I was stuck in MIA for 6-hours. On my way through to the Bahamas, I only had 40 minutes between my connecting flight and had NO TIME whatsoever to dilly-dally around any eatery or store - I just barreled through. However, this go-around I DID have plenty of time to sit around. TOO MUCH time really, but luckily I only had to pay for my soda cup once and you bet I availed myself of all the soda fountains I ran into inside the different terminals at MIA. Probably had near 5 full drinks over the space of 6 hours, with the bathroom trips to prove it. THE LOWDOWN The soda fountain is the best deal you'll find inside the airport.
google avatar

Clarissa S.

Yelp
The food is good but what I truly find exceptional is the staff. The airport is definitely not my favorite, but it was a lovely and uplifting experience to hear them sing to amazing R&B and laugh together while they worked. It was such a pleasant surprise to encounter on a grueling travel day and genuinely put a smile on my face.
google avatar

Ziv B.

Yelp
No hotdogs at Nathan's. Seriously. I can not believe Nathan's ran out of hotdogs. If you are a company famous for your dogs, try to keep a few on hand.
google avatar

April P.

Yelp
In going to the DR & Miami I wasn't impressed Nathan's wasn't the same as I was used to , the fish was deep fried and extremely greasy , it even has a greasy aftertaste, it wasn't the thick nice pieces, the fries were cooked waaay too hard . the Buffalo chicken sandwich my best Friiiieennnd got was Extremely Old and Overcooked needless to say on our next trip this place is being skipped!! My Friiiieennnd said it wasn't the real Nathan's because they didn't even have corn dogs!! The soda machine had all flat flavors , the fresh lemonade was gone and nobody was going to refill it and it just was an overall disappointment to us both and we were super hungry due to the flight smfh.
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
What a useless place to even try to get something to carry you over. It's Nathan's hotdogs and they can't and they don't have anything to make a Chicago dog?. Are they just too lazy to cut up a tomato throw on a pickle and a few spices? What an awful place for people who are stuck in a terrible airport I will avoid Miami from now on
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
I just don't want cheese on my impossible burger. That's all. It's not on the menu amd for $32 for my 2 meals, I should be able to say no cheese. Super attitude-y and not good.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
All I can say is I was feeling EXTRA cheesy with this delicious meal! Fresh out of the fryer fries, drowned in cheese and bacon with a side of ranch. What more could you ask for?! I could eat this all day, everyday.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
FOOD: 1 SERVICE: 1 AMBIANCE: 1 VALUE: 1 Airport food has generally been improving over the years and I was hoping that Nathan's would live up to it's name. But this store here in Miami airport concourse H was a huge disappointment. First of all, the employees did not seemed to enjoy working there. We tried to order a hot dog, wings and onion rings. At first the cashier just said they were out of onion rings. But a cook walked by, overheard her and said that they did have onion rings. The hot dog came out like a skinny sausage, except it did tasted decent. The order of wings, 8 pieces, was only 7 pieces. When I inquired why, they counted the number I had on the tray and couldn't understand why there were only 7 pieces. The cook went back to the frier and looked into the basket but found nothing. He then proceeded to fry another wing for me, but then he noticed a wing had fallen out of the frying basket and into the oil. He then just dug up that wing, which was so fried that the meat was coming off, and just gave that to me! The onion rings were also so well done that they were brown and not golden any more! I will never eat at a Nathan's in an airport again even if there is nothing else around. I'd rather starve.
google avatar

Georgey Z.

Yelp
Hotdog was good, but it took over 20 min to receive it, each condiment was an extra $0.50, not to mention it was pretty pricey.
google avatar

Cary R.

Yelp
What on earth is this? Horrible! What kind of meat is this? What a waste of money! Do not get chicken tenders here. Dry, burnt, and the chicken pieces don't even look the same. So disappointed.
google avatar

Lakeisha W.

Yelp
I can't show you guys a picture because I'm pretty sure what I did was INHALE all my food. Nathan's who told you guys to perfect that Philly steak & cheese like that!!!! The staff was warming & funny as well. good
google avatar

Amber J.

Yelp
I know at a hotdog place I should get a hotdog, right? Thought I would give their new chicken sandwich a whirl. That turned out to be a poor decision. There was barely any chicken in the CHICKEN sandwich. I ordered the buffalo chicken and it had little sauce on it. It wasn't prepared as picture with blue cheese sauce. While the vegetables were fresh, everything else was off. I didn't order fries but I got them. They were horrible! I ate one and that was it. They tasted like yesterday's oil! Not only was the food horrible, we had to wait for the computers to boot up which took some time. It was noon! They weren't prepared to start with their lunch crew. We were the first in line so we waited it out but others in line left. Never again.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Hello. It's 11PM and I walked all the way here from 2 terminals over and on the map it says 24 hours and I come here and it's closed and I'm just so sad because I'm starving. I don't understand. It says "Open 24 hours everyday" and I'm here on a day during an hour and it's closed and I'm hungry. I'm sad.
google avatar

Karina F.

Yelp
okay don't get me wrong. the food is good, i just didn't have a good experience i guess. i got the chesse fries and crispy chicken sandwich, my fries barely had any cheese on it, and i payed $2 more for the cheese fries than the regular ones. and not to mention they were cold. the chicken sandwich was good at first, but towards the middle of it, the entire rest of the sandwich tasted fake, it was so chewy and just disgusting i had to throw it away before i even got a picture. overall not worth it and wouldn't come again
google avatar

Isaac S.

Yelp
Unorganized and lazy! I waited 10 minutes for a chili cheese dog because they had o idea I ordered. I was the only one in line
google avatar

Shahrouz H.

Yelp
Worst tasting, flavorless utterly crap burger and fries I've ever had in my life!!! Nothing had even a drop of salt or any flavor, really stunned at how crappy the food quality was!
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
I are at this establishment while waiting during a layover flight. The place is inside the airport and it is not very big. Definitely a fast food place. The service was good and quick. The food was basic. Not much flavor to the chicken sandwich meal I purchased. The tables were not cleaned between customers but it's an airport. That's not necessarily expected. The food was simply okay.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Nathan's was conveniently located next to my departure gate. The fish sandwich and fries were okay. I'm glad there was no one in line in front of me since speed doesn't seem to factor in to them preparing your order. There were several people in line behind me. A few left due to the long wait.
google avatar

Jonique M.

Yelp
Omg don't do it. Don't go here. I know this airport is huge but keep walking. SAVE YOURSELF. I was craving some lemonade and stopped here for a watery lemonade imposter.Ordered a chicken sandwich and as soon as my hands touched that sandwich I knew it wasn't going to be good. The filet was so thin and dry. The bun, especially the bottom piece, was hard maybe it was "toasted" maybe it was stale who knows. What I do know is that it wasn't good. McChickens are better than this and they cost like $6 less. The fries were dark and soggy with no flavor.Phew child, never again.
google avatar

Carolin A.

Yelp
I wouldn't give them any star if I could. Dry chicken pink inside bread soggy horrible service! Will never come back.
google avatar

Mplsguy U.

Yelp
Airport food is rarely ever good, but it usually fits the bill between layovers, or waiting to board. This cheeseburger made me rethink that sentiment, and may singlehandedly have just made me the most ashamed of eating something, I've ever been.
google avatar

Xzavier C.

Yelp
Yeah, way over rated. Though of comfort food probably gets new customers coming, but, i doubt any return. Overcooked dog, over cooked fries, and just nothing noteworthy. Famously over rated!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Best place to order on postmates from fast and great food always still warm when i get it

Jennifer W.

Yelp
I was so excited to see Nathan's at MIA. We don't have them where I live. I ordered a Nathan's famous hot dog and a corn dog - remembering how delicious they are. These at this MIA outpost were not treated with much respect. The hot dog had been on the grill for a long time losing any moisture it might have had. The bun was dry and crusty. Nathan's dogs when prepared as I've had them in their home town, are juicy, not dry, and the bun is soft and warm. This poor bun must have been sitting outside of its wrapper for hours. When the corn dog was handed to me in less than 15 seconds I suspected this was not going to be a good Nathan's experience. A corn dog made with fresh batter, fresh from the fryer, is one reason why many of us occasionally take our chances with full blown heart disease. I'm happy to wait for the dog to cook. I think it takes 3 minutes? That is pretty fast I think for good hot food. This corn dog was old and sad and greasy and dry. Corn dog heartbreak. Nathan's everything, when cooked fresh, is something to remember and get excited about. So many fast food restaurants, in my opinion, have lost their way and have lost what made them delicious in the first place; a great combination of freshly cooked, greasy goodness, in a soft bun with something hot and fresh out of the fryer right along side - all with a nice sprinkling of salt. Nathan - could you do something about this please?
google avatar

Ida S.

Yelp
You can't beat a Nathan's hot dog. So i had a plain dog with crinkle fries. Excellent! The mustard at the counter is stone ground and is delicious without being too dIjon-y. Unfortunately the service was lack luster. I honestly wondered if the folks behind the counter disliked me as much as they disliked their jobs -- or at least it seemed like it; they were all very serious and sleepy looking and appeared very in interested in their task at hand. No matter; my hot dog was delicious!
google avatar

Thomas C.

Yelp
I know fast food is fast food, but I had to take time out of my day to review this, my experience was so poor. 4 people in front of me, took 25 minutes to get my food. Totally out of ketchup - none in the pump, none behind the counter. The two hot dogs they served me were the ones sitting there when I got in line. Buns were stale. Honestly I am questioning the intelligence of the person running this place. There were FOUR people behind he counter, they were not understaffed. Shame on you, Nathan's franchisee - you've got a garbage product

Simona R.

Yelp
Food was good customers service was outstanding I won't mind coming back here when I go back to Miami fl

Karen M.

Yelp
I just had the worst hot dog I have ever had. I had never eaten at a Nathan's, so I decided to try the one at the Miami Airport. The bun was stale and the meat tasted like it had freezer burn. Only the condiments made it edible. The size was smaller than one from a 7/11. I will not comment on the ridiculous cost because it was at an airport. One thing is for sure, I will never visit one again!
google avatar

Olga Z.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised. It's about 6:15 am and I was hungry. Inside the airport. Inside a concourse. Airport concession time! I walked up and down concourse H. Everything was overpriced, no surprise, and there were plenty of options. I decided on Nathan's because I've never tasted their breakfast sandwiches. The cashier, Jepheline, was patient with me as I took forever to decide. She welcomed me with a warm greeting and answered my questions. I decided on the sausage, egg and cheese muffin. She asked if I wanted the combo, which comes with coffee and a hash brown, but I was in the mood for just a sandwich. There were about 3 people in front of me. The grill was in sight so I saw my sandwich made to order and was ready in less than 5 minutes. The lady who handed me the sandwich, Marie, said with a smile "Thank you for coming. Come again. " I'm pleasantly surprised because I expected much less after reading a couple of the other reviews. But, this customer service was A+. For me, customer service is important. The sandwich itself was delicious. The muffin was toasted, the cheese melted, the sausage patty flavorful and all at the right temperature. More than half of travelers at airports are exhausted, bothered or crabby. Naturally, their reviews are going to have a negative slant. I, on the other hand, am a morning person who loves the feel of airports. It was a good breakfast experience. Yes, Marie, next time I'm inside Concourse H, I'll come again.
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
What a lot o shit they call food the chips were undercooked the hot dog was 3 inches long and tasteless if I could give them zero I would my dick is longer then the hot dog And the two women working there didn't want to be there no smiles no connection with customer I think airport management should get rid of them and place a good quality food outlet there
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
I got some "food" here for breakfast. Sausage, egg, and cheese muffin combo was 6 bucks. Sandwich was edible, hash browns still frozen in the middle...my drink tasted fine though.
