Best Restaurants for Soup in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Indian cuisine is famed for its curries, biryanis, and desserts, but it also boasts aromatic soups worth exploring. At Nathu’s Sweets, a vegetarian spot in Decatur, two Indo-Chinese favorites shine: the sweet corn soup and a tangy hot and sour soup. Pair them with crispy spring rolls, spicy chili paneer, or Indian-style dumplings called momos for a satisfying meal." - Eater Staff

The Best Indian Restaurants in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Another old guard of Indian cuisine from 1939, New Delhi, Nathus Sweets is the Atlanta branch of a North Indian eatery with a bright and airy casual vibe offering a wide selection of classic north Indian and south Indian cuisine. The favorite, Choley Bhatura, is an Amritsari style choley, where chickpeas are soaked in tea and come swimming in rich and flavorful mahogany-colored sauce paired with two soft, slightly sweeter-than-usual bhature or fried bread. The red onion slivers tossed in cayenne pepper and a homestyle Punjabi lemon-carrot preserve is the perfect condiment. Their south Indian dishes are equally nuanced and sumptuous. Loaded thali’s are only available on the weekdays. Contrary to its name, they have a rather small selection of sweet confections. Head over to Gokul Sweets in the Patel Plaza to fix that craving." - Nandita Godbole

We tried their momos, dahi puri, chole bhature, pao bhaaji and chai. It’s the best place to have street food with great food quality. The taste was up to the mark. Definitely try Chole bhature. They serve chai with parle-g which gives Indian feel. We’ve tried other items from the menu as well and the quality of food has never disappointed us. I would consider it better than Honest. The only drawback is parking. Although they have parking available on the back side but it’s hard to find spots on weekends. Overall I would recommend this place 👍🏻

You guys are missing out if you haven’t tried this place! Take my word and go here. Absolutely loved everything! We had such a great experience, Ms. Siri and Mr. Raghuveer helped us & they are THE BEST! 🌟 So cheerful, friendly, willing to help and did go above and beyond. My fiancée & I dined at this Indian establishment, allowing us to explore their best items on the menu! The food itself was undeniably good; each dish was well-prepared and flavorful. You get what you pay for! Quality. Freshness. Quantity. Above all, the delicious taste! & the place is so clean and smells amazing!!!!! Give this place a try (take my word for it); my recommendations would be Pav Bhaji, Fried Rice, Chole Bhature and the chai. One of my new favorites restaurants here in Atlanta!

Google
This place is so amazing! I cannot believe I haven’t been here earlier! If you are deciding on where to get delicious Indian food and wanna try a variety of things and have a wonderful time, this is the spot. We tried a lot of different things, and I was not disappointed in any way.

Google

We were visiting Atlanta and comes across this place. What a treat. All the people are nice. Food is excellent. I think (owner) lady let us try their house signature special dish and we are delighted. My 11 years old daughter gives 2 thumbs up. Atmosphere was alive, you can tell all the customers are happy to dine in there. We tell our friends from Florida about this place, if they ever get to Atlanta.

Google
We are really satisfied with their top-notch service! The staff were friendly and attentive. Loved the Chat Papdi, Chole Bhature, and Soya Chaap, but the Sizzlers were the real highlight! And the chocolate brownie topped with ice cream was a great ending. Highly recommend Nathu Sweets!

Google
Absolutely loved the ambiance, food, music, and service at this place! At first, I was surprised by the dahi puri chaat not being drenched in dahi, but after the first bite, it was clear—this was a deliberate choice by the chef to ensure perfectly balanced flavors and a crunchy bite. The pakoras were served in a generous portion, fresh, crispy, and so addictive that we couldn’t stop eating. The chai was flavorful and came with two Parle-G biscuits, a nostalgic touch I appreciated. On a previous takeout visit, I really enjoyed the papdi chaat and samosas. The chole in the chole bhature wasn’t exactly to my taste, but it wasn’t bad either. One thing that stands out is the owner’s dedication—she’s always moving around, making sure everything runs smoothly and that customers are enjoying their meals. That personal touch makes a difference! Definitely coming back.

Google
Went for brunch with recommendation from friends. Food was okay..reason for star deduction was due to wait time too long (20mins) and dint like the taste of masala tea ( I might skip from next time). Asked my friends over coming again and they are fine to. I will try different food may be dosa next time. In general, worth try for chhole bhature, better than other place.

Yelp
My friends and I had an amazing experience here! The food was vibrant, unique, and a really fun way to try something new. The manager was incredibly helpful! She checked in on our food and made sure I was able to order something that fit my dietary restrictions. Since we were new to this type of cuisine, she took the time to explain the dishes to us before we dug in, which made the experience even better. She also surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert, which was such a kind gesture as we were celebrating my friend's birthday. I'd definitely recommend this spot--there's a wide variety of options on the menu, the overall vibe is welcoming and positive, and the artwork throughout the restaurant is beautiful.

Yelp
I had been waiting for Delhi's favorite place to open and I had been wanting to visit this place for long. I finally visited this place last Saturday and here is a summary of my experience there: 1) Ambiance 5/5: I loved the vibrant and inviting ambiance with inviting bright colors. There is not a lot of parking in front but if you move a little behind the store, you will find more parking. 2) Service 4/5: The service was quick and prompt but I was a little disappointed since they served warm water(which I requested) in plastic glass and there was an instance where the server served us papadi chaat which looked very different and when I asked them there were not sure what it was. Also, there was a mixup where they served matar paneer to my friend who ordered kadai paneer and vice versa. I know this is a small mistake but this gave my friends who were trying Indian food for the first time, a wrong perception. 3) Food 4/5: Here is the summary of the food that we ordered: a) Mango Lassi: This was delicious and thick. b) Chana Bhatura: This is served with 2 bhaturas and chole. I asked them to make it a little spicy. It was spicy but it lacked taste for me. c) Papadi chaat looked a little different and it was spicier than expected for my wife. She had a mild tolerance for spices but she felt it was too spicy. d) Matar paneer: This was a little on the sweeter side and good in taste. e) Kadai paneer: This was a little spicy as expected and rich is gravy and taste f) Gobi Manchurian: This was a little let down :(. I know we have different names here but I was expecting crispy gobhi with Indo-Chinese sauce but this was more like the gravy version. PS: I have not tried the raj kachori yet as I had a cough and cold but this is the first place in Atlanta to serve raj kachori as far as I know so I am definitely going to try it the next time. 5) Value for Money 4/5: The food items as averagely priced with some great in taste and some not so good so I will say its a mixed bag for me but I am definitely going to come back as I want to try the Raj Kachori. Overall definitely worth a visit but I missed the Delhi taste here. The Good: 1) Ambiance 2) Raj Kachori (Not yet tasted but eager to) Not so Good: 1) Chana Bhatura 2) The nostalgia of Nathus is missing

Yelp
authentic, well spiced food and quick service! Our group was starving when we arrived and received all 3 of our dishes within 15 minutes of ordering. If you're like us and can't decide what to get, try their sampler platter (Nanthu's Special Thali)! Another must try is the Manchurian platters- they come out sizzling hot that creates the best saucy yet crisp texture FYI: Limited parking spots

Yelp
New indian vegetarian place in Decatur. Lots to offer from the menu (chaat, thali - weekdays, indo chinese, dosa etc.). The menu online isnt accurate. We tried Chole/Bature, Pav Bhaji, Gobi Manchuria, Tandoori Momo's. All of them tasted delicious. Fast and great service. The seating area is maintained well. A bit pricey but quality is reflective. Limited parking in front of the restaurant. Parking maybe tedious when they are busy.

Yelp
it's a new restaurant that open. The parking lot is rather small kind of a bummer. It's very well decorated with spacious areas. Lots of variety of food and everyone there is very nice. You walk in go to the counter order food pick up a number and sit down. They bring most of the food and dinner plates to you. It's a good place like I said, but some of the flavors weren't my favorite. The desserts were delicious, the dosa was delicious, some of the other foods were good. The Samosa wasn't my favorite. I don't know what it's called, but we got something else which was kind of meh. I got the noodles which I did not enjoy. Overall, I would say it's all right food wise and ambience throws it up to a four star along with the service, but I think it's fairly average Indian food for the area.

Yelp
After being in Atlanta for so long and searching for chole bhature everywhere, I can say this is the closest best Delhi chole bhature you get here. Being from Delhi I loved each bite of it. We also ordered Bombay sandwich which was totally good, and idli was very nice too. Sweet corn soup was a bit thick than I would like but overall food was deliciousssss. Ambiance is relaxing. Like the feel and vibe. By no means it's fine dine and they are not even selling it that way Service was AMAZING!! They were around all the time and checking if anything needed. Super good. And in end faluda kulfi- oh my it took me back to Delhi completely.. amazing place.

Yelp
We tried many different items and everything was very delicious and well presented, sitting arrangement is relaxed and comfortable, this place is our new favorite in Atlanta area now.

Yelp
Chole bature and thali hands down. Best in town I drive almost 50 mile round trip to have their delicacy and never felt disappointed

Yelp
We went with a family and friends. The food and service were excellent. We had a few chats, bombay sandwich ( must), and Shahi paneer. It was delicious and everything was good. They kept checking on us and kids to make sure we were having fun. I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys authentic Indian chats and food.

Yelp
We went to this new Indian restaurant to relive nostalgia from growing up days in Delhi. The restaurant claims to use the same recipes and has cooks come in from India for the authentic taste. My husband and I both ordered chhole bhature and they were amazing. The bhature were fresh, soft and well made and the chhole were very authentic. The pickle was amazing. We also tried gulab jamun (3 in an order) and it was good, not great. The place was filling up as we left with small and large groups. Our service was good, though we had to ask for water. The woman at the counter was very friendly and courteous!

Yelp
Amazing food Totally delhi style chhole bhature One of the best I am their regular Service is a bit slow because of over demand Ambience has a vibe
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good especially Raj Kachori. They have good paneer sizzler but the wait is long for that to come out. Parking is scarce there so expect to park little further. Owner is very nice and she tries her best to give you a good experience. Seating is limited depends on what time you go.

Yelp
This place is in a slightly separate area from the famous Patel Plaza conglomeration of restaurants; it's kind of hard to get into due to construction on the road, so I actually parked at the plaza and walked over. It seems like everyone that posted pictures of this place got the chana bhatura. And when I walked in, the place was crowded despite the off hour, and there were a lot of chana bhatura tables. Indeed, one couple just got two orders of this. So I'm not being overly creative by saying I ordered the chana bhatura. But it is every bit as good as it looked. The freshly puffed bread and the complex and slightly spicy chickpeas would be a meal by themselves, but this place really does it right with accompaniments. I got a fried chili pepper and a fresh one on the side with some pickled vegetables that add a wonderful contrast of flavors and textures. One of the best renditions of this dish I've ever had, and I've had, and I've had lots. Ordering a chai wasn't a bad decision either; it came with some little cookies for dipping and while there was sugar on the side, it was flavorful enough without. This place was bustling despite ample competition. The rest of the menu looks full of delicious vegetarian specials. The name on the door speaks of sweets, but if I'm being honest, I've never really gotten into Indian desserts despite having tried several. But come for the savories for sure.

Yelp
Leta talk about THE BESSSSST dining experience of Indian dishes everrrr!!!! felt like I was royalty eating over here every dish just kept getting better and better. The hospitality is GRADE A & the Owner gifted is free desert that literally melted in my mouth! I'm mad everything was so good I didn't get a chance to get the pics of when food first came but this here pretty much shows the aftermath! 10 for 10 EASY HANDS DOWN If you're in the in the Decatur area I recommend trying his establishment
google avatar

Tamanna G.

Yelp
Absolutely love their food, the quality is consistent and exceptional. They're a good chain originating from New Delhi the capital of India. That being said all North Indian dishes are recommended here especially chats like Dahi Bhalla, Raj Kachori and one must try their Chole Bhature. The service is great, staff is friendly, fast and courteous. They offer dine in, to go and deliver through all major apps. There is parking on store front and ample more behind the building. It is quiet on weekdays but gets really crowded on weekends. It is a self serve restaurant but they're fast paced so you'll be able to seat even if it's busy. If you want o eat any type of chat this is the place to go, highly recommend them.

Yelp
SO good!! This is honestly the best Indian spot we've tried in Atlanta . My bf and I saw people raving about this place on Instagram and came to try it out......every single thing we ordered had so much flavor (shoutout to the shani paneer, mango lassi, chole bhature, and cheese naan). A+ service too as multiple servers and the owner all came by to check on us.

Nidhi S.

Yelp
Hands down, the best Raj Kachori I've had in Atlanta! It was perfectly crunchy on the outside, with a burst of flavor inside. The Chole Bhature was also amazing--crispy, fluffy bhaturas paired with flavorful chole. Definitely a must-try for anyone craving authentic Indian street food. Highly recommend!

Asim R.

Yelp
This restaurant has taken the no 1 Indian food restaurant spot for us. The 45 min drive to get there was fully worth it. We tried veg manchurian sizzler, chilli paneer sizzler, raj kachori and chole bathure. The sizzler was best of . If i could give it 10 out of 5 stars, i would. Highly highly recommend..

Yelp
Nathus sweets is a restaurant and sweet shop with vegetarian food. The Indo-Chinese food scene in Atlanta is not vast and I love that Nathus has and Indo-Chinese section of their menu. We tried the gobi Manchurian, chili paneer, vegetable noodles, and the Singapore fried rice and everything was delicious. The Singapore fried rice is spicy but I didn't think it was too hot. If you are sensitive to spice then the Indo-Chinese section might be hard to maneuver. The woman at the counter was very nice and helpful when I ordered. She answered all of my questions and helped me at the sweets counter when I ordered a few items. The servers at the table were also very attentive. The location is cutely decorated and is clean and bright. It is a mix of counter service and table service so it is a little more elevated than a fast casual restaurant without being too stuffy. I had every intention of getting dosa when I arrived but I had to pivot when I saw the Indo-Chinese part of the menu. I am excited to go back to try the sweet corn soup and the dosa in the future.

Gopi M.

Yelp
Great Food and excellent Service My favorites were Chana Bathura and Tandori Momos Atmaramudu Samtrupthi chendadu

Yelp
Visited Nathu Sweets today, not sure I can describe my experience and justify it in words. You have to go personally and try it It is like I am eating in India at a Delhi Dhabba. Top notch service, high quality food, and amazing dishes. Must try suffed pani puri, gobi Manchurian, chole Bhature, Bombay sandwich, mango lassi and much much more. Cannot say enough about the taste, service ambience and cleanliness of the place. Yelp
It's quite a distance from where we live but I had to go visit this place .... And I was Not disappointed.... The paneer tikka was 10* if there is such a thing it was so good it's to die for, we also tried the chana bhatura a 5* and which was so delicious.... We knew it was a real deal when we tasted it Was not very happy with the Pav bhaji but I still think it was a good 3.5 out of 5 The people were nice and friendly and the restaurant was clean and well maintained

Clayton P.

Yelp
Punjabi thali was great fun. They adjusted the platter to make it gluten free. Delicious.
google avatar

Parnika B.

Yelp
Been here a couple times now. Clean and hygienic with great service. The wait times can be long and they need to do better on that definitely. The food is authentic but some dishes are unnecessarily hot - like uttapam!! My favorite is channa bhatura, paneer tikka and chilli garlic noodles. They also need to do a better job on listing Gluten free on their menu.

Ketan M.

Yelp
Best Chole Bhature hands down. Must get there a little early to avoid rush (rush means they know what they are doing and so people are always flocking this place ). Owner is always around greeting people! She offered brownie ice cream to our kids. The brownie (which is eggless) was awesome! Always good atmosphere.
google avatar

Natalia S.

Yelp
Went with friends on a Friday night. The seating area is modest, but there are fun decorations like the orange tree wall. Our favorites were the masala dosa, momos, and the kadai paneer! Portions were good for the price and the service was very friendly. Parking was easy too. I'll be back!

Savannah W.

Yelp
Bright and welcoming atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff (customer service was over the top), and the food was delicious. Fresh, bright, flavorful, and comforting. We can't wait to eat more of the sweets that we brought home and will definitely be back!

Today first time we visited to Nathus. Should definitely try,Very much impressed with the cleanliness. The Quality of food is phenomenal. The customer service is Ausum specially the owner Alkaji Takes care personally if anything is not perfect. They really understands the values of customers taste. Good to have one new location which definitely feels that u get the same taste like Mumbai & Delhi.

Yelp
Great spot , food quality and taste are very good. Clean nice vibe with friendly staff. Overall good place quick bite or relaxed meal.

Shav L.

Yelp
This place is great! The flavor, the spice level, the customer service everything. They did get really busy after I got there so the service got a little slow but understandable. The cashier was nice of explaning the menu since I wanted to try something new.

Yelp
Wonderful food, great service, and even helped us out with our school event. All around, fantastic addition to the community!

Yelp
Loved this restaurant! Great find. My daughter and I stopped by for a late Saturday lunch. The restaurant was busy, but we didn't feel crowded. You order at the counter get and they bring your food to the table. My daughter had Shahi Paneer, and I had Kadai Paneer. Both were out of this world. The paneer had a great texture and was full of flavor. The restaurant had fun graphic art on the walls and fun decor. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We'll be back!

Yelp
LOOK NO FURTHER PEOPLE.... Delhi flavors are right here in Atlanta.... Nathu's Sweets Decatur!!! The best Chhole Bhature... and omg the Aloo Kulcha was super yummilicious .. and did I mention the Chaat Papdi.... the menu is too long.......! just get there NOW!!! Seriously !!! Not kidding! So yummy! And the ambience is nice and casual. Tables were clean. Service was very pleasant and quick! #NathusSweetsDecatur #Yummiest #DelhiCravingsNoMore

Yelp
I went in there with a friend and was very excited as we wanted to try Nathu's since it opened but was disappointed with the food they served old food .. we ordered hakka noodles and manchurian both tasted stale the noodles were reheated in the microwave ...the chaat items were ok but nothing special .. overall experience was bad and the lady with the glasses going in n out of the kitchen maybe she was the owner or the manager had a nasty attitude too like their food ..would not recommend this place to anyone there are much better Places in the Plaza across from them.. and there attitude towards their customers is way better than this restaurant..

Axel N.

Yelp
Excellent Chana Batura, great chaat and other dishes. Good service & clean restaurant.

Yelp
This place is a 10/10! I pulled in mid day for some samosas because I was starving and was running errands and didn't have time to sit down and eat. They were delicious. After running my errands I decided to go back and try a entree off the menu. I was recommended Chana masala. It was very tasty, fresh and spicy ! I also got the naan and they gave me another bread to try (it was fluffy and delicious, I wish I remembered the name of it.) and a kind gesture. The lady who help me was also sweet and assured me the food was being made fresh . I definitely am planning on going back soon and trying more things on the menu . And the best thing about this place is it's all vegetarian menu. The inside is also hella cute and clean. The art on the walls are inviting . I plan on dining in next visit . So happy i discovered this spot in north decatur.

Veena R.

Yelp
Do not come to eat here. They do not respect customers at all. They operate entirely without informing customers about their "rules." They decided to shut down in the middle of the afternoon. No timing posted anywhere. We drove over 35 mins to get here and we are told that the staff are all on break and we cannot get food. They said the restaurant is closed from 4-5 pm on weekends but they closed the kitchen 30 minutes before. There are much nicer places in Patel Plaza which have seating and want to serve customers. This is the second time we have come here and gone out without food. The last time we came we did not get served because of some other stupid set of rules they didn't post for customers to see. Their website does not say they are closed in the middle of the afternoon at all.

Yelp
amazing food, service, AND ambiance. it's becoming rarer to find a spot that has all three lately so this was quite a refreshing find. would highly recommend for indian vegetarians!!

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to have all the Indian comfort fast food and snacks .. we ordered Chole bhature , which were one of the best I have had in the US and would highly recommend .

Sarthak S.

Yelp
As someone who grew up in Delhi, the taste of their chole bhature, chaats and sizzlers took me back to my childhood. As a kid, I used to love going to Nathu's sweets back in India. There are plenty of chaat places in Atlanta but none match the authentic North Indian flavors until now. Place was super busy and took a long time to get our order but they were very apologetic. I hope they can maintain their flavor profile and quality.

Raaj L.

Yelp
Just tried Nathu's sweets today and what an experience. All I can say is everything was exceptional. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We were 6 people in our group and we could try a variety of dishes. From the chaat to the sizzlers. Everything was fresh and tasty. The bhatura was light and fluffy even though it was fried. The Bombay sandwich reminded me of home. If you haven't tried this place you should.

Pharoah's P.

Yelp
The place started off well but has quickly resorted to cutting corners. Prices are unreliable and fluctuate depending on a day. Guess it's easy to manipulate when you have electronic menus. Surprised how quickly they have started cutting corners. Ordered Falooda and it came with Rose ice cream and vermicelli from Grocery store. Falooda Kulfi is Kulfi and Glass noodles chilled in Rose water. It's still early correct course otherwise they will become one of the many pseudo Indian places in Decatur. The prices have already gone up by about 40% on some items. This is for vegetarian street food, not a sit-down fine dining. Once, the hype is over, it will be hard to pull folks in just by its name unless quality and value for money is maintained.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
The very best food from Delhi you can get anywhere!! Absolutely authentic bathure chole along with papdi chat. The food and taste is just perfect- please don't change! This is a highly recommended Indian food spot!!
google avatar

Ganapathy P.

Yelp
If you are nostalgic about your time in Delhi... this is the place. The chaats, channa bhature, tikki, even the bombay sandwich is finger licking delicious ! Must visit if you are in Atlanta area !
google avatar

Ashish S.

Yelp
Great food, Awesome service, nice atmosphere! Took me back in time to childhood, growing up in Delhi when we used to religiously visit Nathus there. The owners have done a great job in delivering the authentic flavors. It's just simply tasty! Will surely come back next time time when visiting Atlanta, or maybe make a trip specially to visit this restaurant when craving these flavors.

Alex H.

Yelp
Food and service is simply amazing. Interior is very comfortable and fun. We drive from O4W to get our vegetarian Indian cravings satisfied. Vidwaan is so welcoming like the other staff as well

J J.

Yelp
Tasty food. Tried Cholle bhature, pakora kadhi, bombay sandwich, dahi puri & pani puri. Except for Pani puri, all dishes were really good. The panipuri water was bland. Bisy place & wait is long especially on the weekends. Very hands on owner . Very impressive young lady.

Tracy N.

Yelp
Gives Zyka a run for their money. Some of the best samosas and Chana masala I have had. And the service was stellar.

Laura S.

Yelp
THE BEST Indian vegetarian spot in town. My partner and I went two days in a row because we could not get over how incredible the paneer was. Amazing service and people AND atmosphere! 10/10 keep it up guys!!!
