National Coney Island

Our waitress was kind and quick! Food was wonderful. I ate before pics. I had the coney dog and baby Greek salad. Dessert the pie!

Had never been to one before so we had to check it out. They had a sign posted on the door that they were short staffed and to be patient. We sat at the bar and the girl that waited on us was buried in orders. I think there was only one server on the floor at the time as well. The manager came out and helped with the to go orders. They handled business! Our food was hot, fresh, and DELICIOUS. I definitely enjoyed my meal and I felt for the staff. I worked in food service for 15 years and it's tough when you're busy and don't have enough help. So PROPS to the staff! I hope you get some extra hands soon. But keep up the good work!

Waitress was very nice but my hash brows....not so good, they had a bery "weird" taste to them . My sister bought breakfast so I didn't want to complain, unfortunately it took me til I was about 3/4 of the way done with them before I realized that the weird taste was from old oil they were fried in! If you ever spelled old oil you'll probably agree that it kinda smells like PAINT! That's what the hash browns tasted like!

Always on our hit list when we are in town! Great local chain for one of a kind offerings!

I love National but will never go to this location again. 2 of the mozzarella sticks came without cheese in them. My Hani was pitifully half full. Barely any lettuce or the feta cheese I paid extra for. Take out girl was great though!

I don't believe this place will ever be what it once was. It's a typical "coney" restaurant with the usual menu. Can't go wrong with a Hani.

I haven't done a review in a while, but I think this warranted one. I typically get the same thing when I go to Coney., and that's a veggie pita. To me the seven dollar price is already a little steep, considering what is on the wrap. Feta and cheddar cheeses, lettuce; tomato, and Greek dressing. One would think that they would pile those ingredients on considering there are only a few, and they are essentially toppers to what is on other wraps. My last two visits and it's getting a little disappointing. This looks like a taco without any meat. Disappointed is an understatement.

I moved to the west side of Michigan 5+ years ago and National Coney is one of the chains that I miss the most. I wish they would expand west! I came to this location on a Saturday night with a couple people and it was your standard coney! I had a late lunch that day and I didn't plan to get a meal so I went with my go to dessert at National -- a hot fudge sundae! Literally so good and it hit the spot. The people I was with got the original hani, the southwest hani, fries, and a bowl of chili. The original hani still stands at the top of my list for a quick, cheap, and tasty meal. All the food looked and smelled great and honestly everything about a national coney is super nostalgic for me. We sat around for a little longer than we'd like waiting for them to come collect our bill/payment and the busser started bussing our table super early so it made us laugh a little bit bc it felt like we were getting rushed out but no worries about it honestly.

Great carry out experience! My kids were sick and they needed National Coney Island Chicken Lemon Soup to make them feel better! we also got the classic coney dogs, cheeseburger and fries, great food and great experience !

Always great service in the restaurant or carryout. The food is always good and our carryout orders are always correct.

I ordered a doordash order and when my food came they had the food ON ITS SIDE. I ordered eggs and the yolk dripped ALL OVER THE BAG AND THE CONTAINER. I'm extremely disappointed for the negligence of a customers food.

Ordered online, I was greeted nicely as I walked in, my food was ready hot and order was correct! That service is hard to get these days!

I was impressed with their speedy quick service because I only had an hour lunch break. I got seated immediately and ordered a drink. The waitress brought our drinks and then we ordered our food. It did not take long for my friend's large greek salad and chilli fries to come, along with my chilli cheese fries and hot dog. The hot dog was fresh and delicious. The chilli cheese fries were fresh as well with a lot of cheese and chilli. They did not cheap out! The best part was my coke was not watered down and it tasted amazing. I even asked for one to go. The waitress was super fast and our meal was cheap. I left with a full stomach and a happy face. Looking forward to coming again. P.S. bathrooms were surprisingly clean! They smelled nice as well. This is a huge plus for me.

I have always been a fan of National Coney Island's Breakfast! And that's usually all that I ever order when I go. Last weekend, I was on the move, and ended up ordering National back to back, one time on Saturday morning, and another on Sunday afternoon! First, I've been to several locations, but this was my first time ordering from this location. I automatically liked that there is a drive-thru at this location. So that was definitely a plus! I ordered my usual: Mushroom and Swiss Omelette add/Sausage, and Hashbrowns extra crispy. The next day, I ordered a Crispy Chicken Salad. The portions for both meals were huge! Could not eat either meal in one setting. And the the salad was really good! I also like the prices at National. I'm sure I will be back soon for breakfast again!

This was the first time eating at the National Coney Island. The interior looks like a 50s diner. We went during the lunch hour. It was pretty busy and the service was slow. We both ordered the Coney Dog combo, which comes with your choice of a salad, soup or French fries. I ordered the seasoned waffles fries with chili. I thought the food was overall good. We ordered various pies to go for our dessert. The prices are reasonable and it looks you can order carry out or Door Dash. This location has a private lot. Looking forward to trying other menu options.

The surface is always good. My husband and I've been going here for years and we've never had a meal disappointment. We normally go for breakfast and they're awesome. The pancakes are like a dessert waffles awesome with fresh fruit and fresh whipped cream! We love going there for lunch hot turkey or hot beef sandwiches so good. Oh yeah we're regulars. I ordered food from her on a whim because I didn't feel like cooking. The woman who took my order was not only friendly, but very helpful, and took the time to answer my questions, even though I could hear that they were super busy. The food was good, and as described. The custom orders were completed as requested. I'd definitely go back!

The food is always good but the service is not, hit and miss with that. I would recommend getting the rewards app.

Order the "Hani"! It is a pita that is wrapped and grilled. There are many options, buffalo style, spicy, etc. It typically comes with chicken, cheese, lettuce and tomato. They even have their own special Hani Sauce (I asked the server, its basically mayonnaise). I had a good experience, the service could have been more efficient. I overheard a few tables complaining that they were waiting to long, but it was at lunch time on a Sunday, so I expected it to be busy. They also have waffle fries that were deliciously crispy. The Detroit Lions were playing while we were there, and their restroom had speakers so you wouldn't miss the game.

Friendly service, placed a carry out order, food was correct as ordered. Woman who brought out the food was pleasant and attentive. Will be back. 4 stars due to slightly extended wait over what was quoted.

When you give substandard service, yet expect a minimum of 18% for a tip... Something is wrong. Standard tip is 15%... Not 18. To have that type of expectation, when people who are seated after you get served before you... should give you a good idea of what service is like in this place. I believe in tipping good for good service... And tipping accordingly for not so stellar service.

Never open the hours stated. You show up and they yell out the door we are closed at 2:30 in the afternoon. Don't waste your time!

Coneys and chili fries are always good. I've been back dozens of times. Downtown good? No but best around here.

Hands down the worse Coney Island around. Service is horrible. We've ordered carry out for years and each time the service has gotten worse. I understand with Covid things are different. I get that, but it's not that hard to check in the bag to make sure the whole order is there before you give it to the customer. This place will never get another penny of my money. I'll eat a PB&J or starve before I go back here.

Absolutely great service. We've been coming here since we moved to the area and have never had bad service but tonight it was exceptionally GREAT. The staff ran like a well oiled machine and everyone was super nice and on top of their game. This is why we continue to come here- the workers. Don't get me wrong the food is great too but the workers keep us at this location. Keep up the amazing work

Slowest service I've ever experienced in my life. Stopped in to grab a quick bite, took 10 minutes for waitress to initially greet me, ordered soup and baby Greek salad right away. That took forever to come out, which is some what understandable if the kitchen is busy, but i didn't see waitress for another 20 minutes, was just sitting and waiting to get the bill. Should not be 1 hour experience to get a soup and salad.

Tried the new location the other day, service was ok. Our waitress was very friendly. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable. The food was the issue. My sister ordered the chicken lemon rice, for those who frequent nationals know this is a consistent favorite. It's was under cooked and the rice was crunchy. The traditional hani, was not the usual. The bread was different and it tasted strange. I think the cooks are not trained or very new. We grew up eating hanis and they are normally very consistent and at any coney found in metro detroit. I will stay away from this location and visit other locations. Don't change the hani.....it's a Detroit tradition!

Wow! This is a sharp looking National! Very bright and open! A far cry from most of their outdated, dirty looking locations! Food is coney food. Not 5 star but killer when you have a hankering for a hani or a coney dog! Took a star off due to service. Seemed very unorganized and service was slow.

Great customer service, quick cook times, food is always cooked per requested, no issues ever! Polite staff, take out is well timed, our family enjoys weekend dine in & now since Covid takeout from here. Great place

Busboy dropped the dry towel he was wiping the table with on the floor, picked it up and continued to clean the table. Told my bf while I was watching, manager overheard me and did nothing. Waitress was great. Food was fine. Manager sat at a table the entire time talking to someone. Then said manager walks up to the register so we got up to pay and manager walked away from us as we put the money on the counter. Laziest manager ever. Rude, disrespectful and lazy. Won't be back

OOMG!!! I wish we had places like this in Illinois. Places in the Chicago burbs were good when we first moved here... But I'm sorry... Detroit has taught me something new about one very simple American classic... The hot dog... Or more specifically, the Coney Island. Which is definitely one of the premiere food staples of Detroit... Let's get down to it... While I'm sure there are literally dozens of better Coney Island providers in the state of Michigan. This is unfortunately the only Coney Dog establishment I was able to visit during my short work weekend in Grosse Point Woods... And this place did not disappoint... So about this thing called a Coney Island... The Chicago dog is a more complicated dog with an assortment of toppings. While the Coney Island is pretty simple... Chili, onions, and mustard.... It was the dog itself that set this one apart... There was so much snap in this natural casing that you could actually hear it... I savored every bite of this delicious Coney, that I actually considered driving back for more... But how sad would THAT have made me look? Lmao... I just sat there and ate it as slow as I could, wanting to buy more of them and take them home in my suitcase for my entire family to enjoy... I know the Chicago dog is a precious item when properly made. But I have yet to taste an actual natural casing dog of this quality from any local establishment in Illinois... Vienna Beef, Nathan's, Hebrew National??? Eat your heart out!!! The Coney toppings and the Chicago dog toppings are a matter of opinion in regards to which one you prefer... You need quality toppings and a quality dog to make a Chicago dog work... This Coney Island had very bland chill (which I think is what your looking for in a Coney), crisp chopped onion, and mustard. A very simple dog... It's all about preference... It was the dog that put this Michigan establishment over the top... Now let's talk about the burger... Do we really wanna go there??? I don't think we do... I'll just say it was the best burger I've had in years! Made to order with your choice of the freshest toppings... Again, very simple... In-N-Out Burger SUCKS!!! I'm from California and I grew up with the Double Double. So for those of you in Cali that claim In-N-Out is the best burger in the world (National fast food reviews claim the same)? I say this, "Try a National Coney Island burger!" And In-N-Out SUCKS!!! End of story... Lastly... The service... A brand new girl. Handling the takeout door. And they were very busy. (As I'm quite sure they ALWAYS are)... But plenty of backup servers, more than willing to lend her an assist... Normally, this would give a place a bad service rating... But the ball was never dropped... Plenty of staff, with plenty of smiles, made this place one of best places I've ever eaten at... And I've eaten at hundreds all over North America... National Coney Island??? You only get 2 thumbs up. Cuz I only have 2 thumbs. If I had more, you'd definitely get em...

Stopped in for brunch with the kids. It was a blast. Service was great and the place was wonderful as usual. Kids had chocolate chip pancakes and sausage. I had 2 coney dogs without the bun. Hubs had a breakfast sandwich. All was cooked perfect and fresh. Great place to take the kids and great value for the price!

Very disappointed. Uninterested server, small (and I mean small) portions and pricey for what you get. Sure is not what it used to be and we will not be back.

I am here now for lunch and our server Carol is absolutely amazing. What a pleasure it is to have such a joyful person when you're having a rough day. Food came out hot and refills were here before I even realized I needed one. She's a gem here as I've had a few visits that service wasn't so great. Thank you Carol!!!

This is my second time ordering the original Hani Special and the seasoned waffle fries. My Goodness!! I LOVE IT! First time was carry out, second time we dined in and the service was great! And fast! I am completely satisfied with this place. I love it.

Always love the National Coney chain. Came in on a Thursday about 3pm and the place was empty. Ample service and the food was great, as it should be when there's only a handful of customers.

The Patty melt is excellence it tastes super good compared to Steak N Shake, less greasy and more flavor! It comes with a nice portion of fries also! The sauces that you can choose from taste good, especially the thousand island and ranch. Two of us ordered the patty melt and were so glad we did. Now the other members in our party ordered breakfast items like: Omelette, pancakes, eggs, hash-browns etc. The omelettes were so good compared to other Coney Island restaurants we been too. Another time we carried out and order the same items and it still tasted great!! Definitely will be back!

Service was fast, no wait for a table. Our waitress was really friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. This is our favorite location to go to because it's always clean.

The food is very good and consistent. You know what you're going to get every time. I eat breakfast here every Sunday morning. The Waitresses are very friendly.

Please do not waste your money. They are rude, cheap and charge for everything. The bathrooms were nasty and had no soap. My daughters and I had an early dinner there. I ordered their chili with beans, it should be a simple order right? They charge for cheese, onion and sour cream 50 cents each. I ordered my chili with beans and they forgot those and my onions, which I paid for. By the time the waitress checked back, my chili was cold and my daughters were done eating.The waitress checked back 15 min later after my daughters were done eating. She gave me the correct chili to go however they refused to give me any sides without charging me again. We will never go back.

Hours on the door start at 6:00am. Doors at 6am were locked; I looked in the wondow and the waitress was on her smartphone and the cook had had ear phone in looking down...waited 6 minutes and left.

Oh how has National fallen from grace. The place was clean which I expected in a brand new place. Food service was slow. Waitress brought wrong sauce for my cheese sticks. Memorabilia on walls is crammed in some spots and sparse in others. Then when I was leaving one of the cooks decided to "mean mug" me all the way to my car. I doubt I will be back to this location again. I know see why Leo's are popping up at light speed. Tommy get back to basics brother.

This was hands down the best experience I've had at a restaurant. I was out with my friends and our waitress was super cool, and even chatted with us a little when we talked to her. Triple thumbs up for this, and definitely five stars out of five.

The Food was good but the service has been declining as of lately. I've been a regular since I live around the corner, every time I come home from school this is the usual go to stop. The past couple times I have been there, it has been a lot of screw ups in receiving the correct order. The staff is pretty friendly, I just wish they would pay more attention to detail.

Ok it's a coney joint right, it's a issues of price because it's cheap but it's not good. well at least not the new location at 13 mile and Gratiot in Roseville. I think they add mayo in the yogurt sauce for their gyro's, who does that.? Poor Sevice , bad food.

I picked up a carryout from this location. It's a little bit closer than the one on goesbeck. I ordered and picked it up through the drove thru then looked at my order and left. My mistake for not opening each individual package. I work in the industry sometimes mistakes happen but when the M.O.D. I believe his name is Chris comes on the phone and never once apologizes for the mistake and instead gets an attitude persisting I ordered something that I didn't and then proceeds to put me on hold once again and gets back on the phone stating, "you can pick it up here or I can give you a credit" I was angry still so I hung up without even an almost sorry. My advice is drive the extra mile or so for good customer service and maybe this location will teach their managers how to speak to a customer.

I like the look of this new location, but the service was horrible! The greeter were rude to us as soon as we walked in. The servers needs to be re-trained on customer services! Never been to a national Coney Island that was so rude! They make you feel so unwelcome. I been here multiple times and every time end the same! Mine And my boyfriend hani where the saddest looking hani I ever had from coney. we couldn't even finish our food. We Will never go back and tell everyone I come in contact with to not go there, it's not worth my time and money.

Having no actual mom and pop coney islands around macomb county, I settle for national. this location is better than most and theyre the only one open 24 hours.

We had a soccer tournament nearby. So the extra traffic had this place hopping. We had to grab lunch between games. Our group of 18 was handled pretty well. They did forget my family's order so the kids got in an uproar for the extra three minutes. This is one of the newer locations so the space is brighter and more open.

Food was good service very fast. Liked the coney memorabilia on the walls. Clean. Wait staff very personable. Definite I will return.
