Hotel National (Moscow, Russia) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The National is in the perfect location — deep in the heart of Moscow, directly opposite Red Square and the Kremlin, with the Bolshoi Theater close by. This is the grand dame of Moscow hotels, dating back to Czarist times, and it still has the Art Deco facade to prove it. Long the home to statesmen and dignitaries, it was in fact Lenin’s favorite, and his home for a brief stretch in 1918. In recent years the hotel has undergone extensive renovations, and while quite a bit of historical color remains — such as the marble lobby and the ceiling paintings in certain guest rooms — today’s National is a more contemporary affair. Among the features are such modern business-hotel amenities as a fitness center, a beauty salon and an indoor pool. The restaurant, Piazza Rossa, is a fine one, with views of the Kremlin; the Alexandrovsky Bar has a private-lounge ambience, and is open seemingly all hours. Nearby attractions are almost too numerous to name — but this is the place to stay for that authentic old-world Moscow experience." - Tablet Hotels

My experience at National Hotel was great. I liked the ambience of the place and I felt like I was taken back in time. It does reflect a 5 star hotel in some aspects but I have stayed in more authentic 5 star hotels that really went all out. The location was perfect. The metro is very close and you can easily coordinate from the hotel. Some of the staff were friendly and some were cold. The temperature of the rooms was very hot at first but it became better toward the end of my stay. The breakfast was modest and I would not say that it was extensive. The price was very good for the overall experience I got. The street is very noisy at night if you have your windows slightly open and this was an inconvenience. The only issue I faced was that some of the furniture was either too old or low quality so it would have been easy to damage if you were not careful.

I absolutely loved it. the hotel was built in 1903. it was fascinating to stay there. The antique furniture was breathtaking! I do pray they keep this original atmosphere. there's no hotel in the world that keeps such great original antique Russian style. The hotel is very close to Alexander Park, and all the great museums, the staff were kind, and they speak English. I haven't tried the food, so I can't comment on it. But I am definitely staying there again! -

Overall an amazing experience. Receptionists (special gratitude to Valery) are attentive and very professional. Doormen are great, extremely helpful and welcoming. We definitely will chose to stay again here for the next trip to Moscow.

Despite the earlier and moderate reviews I read about National Hotel, I went a had and reserved a junior sweet. I must say, I was amazed with the hotel and the service. The hotel location is unbeatable just a cross the street is red square and all amazing historical sites. I never needed a taxi as everything was close. There this an underground mall with three floors which had everything including food court. The reception staffs were very kind speak english and had a great personality. Special thanks to Stepan for his welcome, he also took his own time to show me around and took me to the second floor where the hotel has its own gallery with well know figures who stayed at the same hotel such as presidents and actresses. The room was very classy and maintained well except of the wood floor which has some scratches which was fine.. the room service and cleaning was excellent. The buffet had many varieties and I loved everything. Specail thanks to the whole team who worked on there. They were very active and making sure everyone is served well. On Sunday morning only I had to wait for 10-15 minutes as it was crowded. Not to forget, the restaurant is right in front the red square so you have an excellent view. It is a 5 star hotel and deserve it. I would stay in the same hotel again. Thanks to all.

Location is perfect. Hotel himself is good if you like historical place. Room cleaning was not best but still ok. Breakfast was very good. Housekeeping workers are always greets you, that’s good level. Waiters were ok, could be much better they need more education. Front office ( reception ) was not helpful and real friendly but with languages they are ok. Lifts are not enough if you are living top floors. If I would come next time to same place? Hmmm I don’t know. Best thing in here is location.

location everything else - breakfast is terrible and extremely limited, it smells AWFUL inside and your clothes get soaked with bad smell every time you enter breakfast area. Also one time it was so full they asked to WAIT for you to sit for breakfast or join another table haha, absolutely atrocious. Rooms ARE OLD, VERY OLD, ULTRA OLD, you can even smell it - it's bad. Bathroom is awful and looks like its still Soviet Union, very dirty tiles, even the bath mat is yellow instead of transparent. Everything creaks, A/C is not working (they had to come fix it, and the temperature gauge still doesnt work, the worker said it didnt work since 20 years ago).

Unfortunately the room was not cleaned and not arranged with a bad smell, the receptionist were very very very slow, we reach the hotel at 12:00 afternoons and he told us to come at 15:00 for check in, we came at the time and she took more than ONE Hrs to let us enter the room. FYI , the reservation was made more than one month through the internet. Our reservation was three rooms for 6 people, unfortunately all the stuff was put together in one room. For me was not a good experience in this hotel.

The room was big and the location was great and the water and coffee was free in the room overall the clean I think we was in the new hotel which from the reception you need to go to second flooor and walk to the back side left and continue to 7th floor which you need to walk like 10 mint to reach your room and also no bidet water
