Art and Culture in Amsterdam

"Holland’s leading force for keeping opera and ballet alive in the Netherlands presents nearly a dozen annual productions, most to sold-out audiences. With its own choir and visiting orchestras, the company is renowned for both traditional and innovative productions. Free lunch concerts are presented most Tuesdays at 12:30 PM from September to May, except during the year-end and public holidays." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"Seeing an opera or a ballet in Amsterdam is—in a word—magical. Housed in the canal-side Stopera building, which is also home to Amsterdam's City Hall, the Dutch National Opera and Ballet took on its current name in early 2014 to reflect the official partnership of the Dutch National Ballet, The Amsterdam Music Theatre, and De Nederlandse Opera (also renamed to the Dutch National Opera). In 2016, the Dutch National Opera and the Dutch National Ballet will share the stage for the first time in a production of Hector Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette, directed by Sasha Waltz. The rest of the programming for 2016 and 2017 looks just as wonderful."

A great building that had bricks. It has a very peculiar vibe. I used it to see where i was headed. My love for brick is very particular. I like art of dancing and ballet is a very elegant dance.

A noticeable waypoint to help me understand where I was on the canal tour. A very easily distinguishable building due to its size and coloration.

Worth every cent and every minute! You can't buy feelings this place gives you. Building itself is neat and well done, well organised even despite momentary little partial renovation - it's still very easy to navigate. Staff is simply amazing. Very kind and nice people all around, approaching guests with respect and smile. Me and my wife, we went to see The Nutcracker and the Mouse King at 01.01.26. It was simply mesmerizing. A lot of great talent of all ages on the stage. Never in my life I saw scenography like this. Don't want to spoil too much in my review so let's just say that smooth transitions from bulidings to forests were simply magical. Effects are amazing. I have enormous respect for people from behind the spotlight, the ones who make it all work, who operate the lights, moving objects and scenery, who create beautiful costumes that tell the story on their own as well. Orchestra was grand, it was led brilliantly, building and adding emotion and feel to the spectacle and story unfolding in front of our eyes (and ears). I am totally in ave of this experience. It's not the first time I see ballet but I highly recommend for everyone to just come and see it. Go and spectate National Opera & Ballet yourself, it's a treat for a mind and for a soul, it makes world seem more beautiful and visit reminds you that there are still pure and perfect things in this world. I've cried tears of joy when Pas De Deux took place. I love this part and it was executed masterfully, music was emotional, dance was perfect, all the impossible figures and choreography transitions made incredibly beautiful and smooth. I wanted to cast my thanks for this magic event for amazing Mouse King, for brilliant Clara, for talented Nutcracker but if I would write it like this, name by name, role by role, my review would be incredibly long. So let me just say this: I'm incredibly impressed by what you present to your audience. Thank you to EVERYONE involved, literally EVERYONE. You provide spectacle for the senses, medicine for the soul, and beauty for humanity. Thank you, and see you soon. With respect and love, Christopher.

Google
Modern architecture. It has an amazing sound quality, and the stage is not far away from any seat. Not comparable with old designed ones, but still really competitive in terms of acoustic and visibility. Really recommended.

Every visit to the Amsterdam Opera and Ballet Theatre is a great holiday for us. We especially love the ballet with the participation of the Russian prima Anna Tsygankova. Bright, talented, charismatic, she turns every performance into a wonderful fairy tale.

A nice and modern building., attached to the townhouse…the production of Romeo&Juliet was good, with excels acoustic.

Google
A beautiful modern opera house was the amazing setting for Boris Godonov, a story of Russian Zsar and a thirst for power. With about a hundred in the chorus and then all the title roles and a full orchestra and the children's chorus this was a pleasure of both sight and sound.

I’ve been a patron for years - the shows are great but this one star is solely for the sore state of the facilities and logistics for f&b that I experienced today. It was disappointing and I wonder where the money is going to. The lift from the car park is so poorly maintained and dirty - not to mention vandalised. They didn’t have a closed walk to the entrance because of some works outside but no signs to tell you where to go. Parking is nine euros an hour. Then comes the kicker - not enough seats to have a drink and bites. Then they run out of cake during the interval and of course, not enough seats. Mind you - it was not full house. I really hope they make things better for patrons in the future.

Yelp
Nice opera & ballet in Amsterdam. I would recommend to visit it if you are in the city. Awesome live orchestra music and ballet performance will make an indelible impression on you about Amsterdam and Holland culture in a common. We've attended on Tristan and Isolda and it was awesome! In addition this house places near by Amstel river and you can see it from terrace

Yelp
What a nice opera house. Pretty much you can't get a bad seat anywhere. Giving them 5 stars for their coat check system. This is the fastest and most efficient coat check system ever. They served like 1000 people in 3 minutes.

Yelp
We attended the Ballet's schools final performance and were absolutely blown away with the caliber of dancers that performed. Amsterdam is so lucky to have such a great ballet company and school! The facility is wonderful and great view from every seat!!
