First positive: they have a nice collection of Hawaiian artisan crafts, from clothing to jewelery, art, crafts and home goods. The TRUTH NOW regarding the people: No Aloha in this store from employees or the owner. I spent over $350 in gifts and received ZERO welcome walking in the store, knowone offered any sales assistance, even though there were four employees, including the owner there. Upon checkout i asked about the return policy: they DONT1 have one. You can only receive a store credit IF YOU KEEP THE ITEM IN 100% INTACT AS PURCHASED with tag on AND your receipt. So upon coming back to exchange an i item that didn't work out, again, received absolution zero welcome from the owner or the two employees behind the counter. I was RUDELY told by the owner I could exchange if the tags were in place and that "I HAVE TO INSPECT" to ensure the item meets those conditions. I purchased additional items and ONLY THEN did i receive an Aloha on my psyment and as the owner stated, " you payed more than you originally purchased." I like to support local small business but this owner needs to go to an etiquette and customer service college course. She is A HORRIBLE sales person.

I absolutely love this store. It is more of a boutique in my mind. I highly recommend it to anyone living on or visiting the island. The curated collection of high quality Hawaiian designs and locally produced products is second to none for the island. We are blessed to have this store on Maui. The selection of lei is exquisite and the woodwork, jewelry, hula implements and clothing lines are gorgeous! I am happy to support this highly respected small business on Maui.

What a great store and the customer service was top-notch! We bought a couple of beautiful bracelets while shopping there and when one of them broke they did everything they could to make it right. There was excellent communication and follow up throughout the process. I love supporting small business and was so happy that we heard about this place and got to visit while we were in Maui! I was excited when I found this store online. The staff was friendly and most of the merchandise was of good quality. However, in looking for something authentic and not your normal tourist souvenirs there was nothing in a reasonable price range for teenagers and children. I wanted to take home something rooted culture and support the native community but I was very disappointed. I settled on a tee shirt for my nephew that was about $27 but when I picked it up the material was so thin I could see through it. Sadly I am taking home stuff I could find in any beach vacation community in the world.

What a great local store full of authentic hand crafted goodness. They have some impressive ties, local art and woodcraft! Their shirt designs are some of the most unique on Maui.

Just amazing. They had a copy of a book I've been looking for and just awesome inspiring wears created with love by local craftspeople. Definitely getting my shirts from there from now on.

This shop has the best selection of locally made products I’ve found in 10 trips to Maui. From candy and caps to incredible Koa wood surfboards and exceptional furniture pieces, Native Intelligence just rules.

This is another Wailuku gem, along with Paradise Now. Definitely a go-to shop for locally made apparel, Hawaiian accessories, jewelry, fresh lei and so much more! Most locals love shopping here because of the quality selection. So, if you're visiting Maui and looking for a legit, Polynesian made souvenir (for yourself or to take home), look no further! My boyfriend loves their shirts and hats. He probably has every Native Intelligence brand shirt because they have such great designs and are super soft material (size up as they are slim fitting). Go check them out, they have outfits for any occasion! They are so helpful if you are looking for something specific or just have random questions! I especially love how nicely they package everything for you!

Native intelligence is a cool little gift shop in Wailuku that features an array of items from clothing, to accessories, to instruments, beauty products, and so much more. They are a champion for Native Hawaiian culture, traditions, craftsmanship, and beautiful designs and it's evident in all the products that they carry within their walls. Their gift shop showcases local Hawai'i artisans and creatives which provides the two fold opportunity to find unique gifts while also supporting local businesses. The items that caught my eye include men's ties, bags, baby items, and jewelry pieces that featured shells (my favorite). We also prefer to get our leis here for special occasions and events. We've bought all kinds of different varieties at my work and the leis are fresh, vibrant, and smell oh so wonderful! They are well made and the prices are pretty reasonable as well compared to the big box shops. Highly recommend ordering ahead, but they do have some in store that is first come, first served. You can find free parking up on Main Street and it's just a short walk away.

This is a great place to pick up leis at reasonable prices in comparison to Safeway and local stores. During certain times of the year, it is first come first served. There are many beautiful Hawaiian jewelry pieces, artwork and clothing. There is free street parking on Main, in the rear or on the side streets. It is a popular place for those planning to head off to college.

What lovely happenstance, This lovely boutique sells clothing, jewelry, and art from Maui artists. The staff were so helpful and kind. We purchased a dress and a Hawaiian shirt and we are very pleased with the quality, mahalo!

Arrogant and nativist staff. How about making customers feel valued instead of making us feel you are doing us a favor. They won't do refunds so from now on I surf online to purchase. Last time today they again don't care to try to be accommodating to customers. I have a special event to attend and could not decide between two shirts so asked if I could bring one back after checking with spouse, but nope. The don't do refunds just store credit!! Do you know how inconvenience that is? Do you realize it's the 21st Century and there is NOTHING you have in stock that can't be purchased from a number of online vendors? So yes never again will I darken your door - so yes here is my photo to help you recognize this white not. As a local in Maui I want to support little shops. but not with rigid policies or let's just say a racist attitude. Bye

Native intelligence is a favorite stop each time time a visit Maui. For me this is the best shop for leis, jewelry, and textiles. You will find quality items with a real tie to the islands, support local makers, and leave with a wonderful new souvenir. Did you know that in French souvenir means memory? Visit Native Intelligence and leave with a souvenir.

It's a great place to shop for Hawaiiana gifts. I thought the prices were very reasonable given the products they sold. Some things are expensive but the quality is top shelf. This store is much more than a souvenir store. There are things you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. I especially liked their wood products, clothes and jewelry. They also sell fresh leis.

Personalized service, unique selection of artisan made products. Would go back in my next Maui vacation.

Souvenirs are physical memories of the places you have visited. Keychains, magnets, and little knickknacks are among the traditional items. However, those items do not necessarily support the local economy since they are mass-produced overseas. Also, you oftentimes might buy an item that seems locally made only to find out that it is not. At Native Intelligence, you will only find products that are made in Hawaii so rest assured that you are supporting the local economy. Of course a premium comes with locally made items, but you get what you pay for. The store carries a selection of items such as leis, clothing, jewelry, soap, books, stationary, and household products. There are also a lot of koa wood products as well. The stuff here make for souvenirs that are treasured rather than tucked away and forgotten. This is a great place to get a unique and thoughtful gift for someone or for yourself.

i went in with my toddler to find a gift and i was followed around the store. i am Kanaka. i noticed the tourists were not receiving the same level of attention. it made me so upset to be racially profiled in a Hawaiian store. Maybe i fit the profile for someone who had stolen from them before but i'll never go back. ever.

Amazing customer service! Everyone was extremely friendly and kind. The store has an array of items. Books, clothing, home decor, jewelry etc. Highly recommend shopping at this local treasure.

This is a great store that is dedicated to Hawaiian culture. A very interesting shop with beautiful jewelry, clothing and artwork. They even have a book section with cozy chairs set up to sit and look at the books available for purchase. This is worth the stop. Lots to see.

This is a beautiful store with quality items. I purchased two items and asked about shipping the items. It was obvious that the clerk was annoyed by this request. After she measured a box behind the counter, she quoted $95. Long story short, UPS charged me $22.32.

What a cool store. The concept is genius, the owners make it all the more special. Their inventory is eclectic, so you're sure to find something you can't live without. They also happen to sell custom leis that are GORGEOUS. Make the trek into town to check out this store.

A special place with excellent customer service! We showed up just before closing and the owners stayed an extra 45 mins helping us with our selections. Our daughter just took up hula and we were I search of an ipu gourd drum. We received a tip from someone to check out Native Intelligence and we were pleasantly surprised. I wanted to buy some of their uniquely, in-house designed t-shirts, but I have too many shirts at home... Will be back!

What a beautiful store! I go every time I am at the 1st Friday celebration, and whenever I want to buy pearls or something MADE in Hawaii. This last trip (I spend about 1/3 of the year on Maui) I was able to get one of the beautiful winter wreaths...usually by the time I get there, I can only look..they are all sold! And I was able to find a lovely pair of Ni'ihau shell earrings, something I have been wanting for a long long time.

I just loaded up on some great Christmas presents at NI. Such great people there, they make you feel at home and answer all your questions. (but if you no like talk story, they leave you alone, which is fine by me, too... unlike the other reviewer.) They have a fantasitic selection of Hawai'ian art work and handicrafts. The Ni'ihau jewelry is wonderful, authentic and makes a wonderful Christmas present (or so claims my wife). The shop supports the local community by working with local radio stations and with the Hula Halau's. We went to them for a Christmas wreath of indigenous plants, too. Mahalo nui to you guys. Aloha.

Support Native Hawaiian culture and community with a visit to this wonderful store! We enjoyed browsing all the local crafts and walked out with bookmarks, salts, a candle, a wood barette - all locally made. The two employees were super friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit to Wailuku, along with stops at local spots Paradise Now and Wailuku Coffee Company!

This is a great little store that carries pretty unique and nice items. Pretty nondescript storefront, in a not-very-touristy part of town, close by the Bailey House Museum. There are pieces at a number of price points, from low-medium to quite high. This is not a bargain souvenir shop carrying the usual mass-produced t-shirts and tikis (in fact, I can't remember if they even had any tikis on display). Nor is it a pricey boutique that sells high-end Western stuff like Swarovskis, or even local oil paintings, which you could buy anywhere else in the world. Except probably cheaper. These are island sourced items, inspired by local culture - lots of really nice wooden pieces, mostly elegant and simple designs, which you probably wouldn't find elsewhere. Got 2 really nice t shirts and a cow-bone & koa wood spiral pendant, very simple and sparse, where the bone looks like ivory. About $80, so by no means cheap, but looks quite stylish. And, yes, by taste I could have spent quite a bit more, had I had the budget. By far one of the more interesting shops I saw on Maui. p.s. one of the other reviewers was all bummed that the staff ignored her. I got a slightly different take - the saleslady initially pretty much left me to browse on my own, which I actually prefer, rather than bugging me to buy stuff. However, as soon as I asked for information, she was very helpful and quite available to explain details about the pieces I was looking at.

This is the place to shop on Maui if you're looking for something special and reflecting the true native culture. You won't find mass-produced junk here but you will find unique t-shirts, jewelry, hand-printed linens, and much more. Upon checking out the employee told me about the cultural significance behind the items I was purchasing.

Native Intelligence is a great little specialty store dedicated to the Hawaiian culture - they sell books, gifts, implements, (LOTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS) and everything is either locally handcrafted here on Maui or on some of the other islands using locally sourced materials. A true cultural gem. **they also have fresh lei - pakalana!!**

Really lovely shop that has a nice selection of island-designed and made items. We learned about the shop on the plane from Hilo to Maui - when I met a Maui local who I told I would be making the first stop at Fabric Mart, she laughed and said I really needed to go to Native Intelligence too. So I did! They do have some fabric and it's quite beautiful - but that's not the business they're in specifically. There are t-shirts with lovely prints and other clothing items, implements and implement accessories for all your hula needs (we got a pu'ili bag since I had made one but daughter has two pair and I was tired LOL). Lovely cards and lotions and soaps and art and jewelry. There was finally a pair of black pearl earrings that I LOVED that were absolutely gorgeous that I would have loved to have - but I couldn't quite afford them. They weren't overpriced....just not in my budget at this time. Lovely shop - be sure to stop in!

Love this shop! The owners are so nice, and they have beautiful jewelry that's rare to find anywhere else. They also carry clothing, artwork, native Hawaiian. books and instruments, and 'awa. Be sure to stop in if you're ever in Wailuku.
