"Formerly known as the Malibu Riviera, and built back in 1947, a recent revamp has brought new life to this charming beach hideaway. Just steps from both Zuma Beach and Point Dume, thirteen rooms, all with king-sized beds (Casper mattresses, obviously), are sparse and resemble a fancy sleepaway camp; bathrooms are simple, but comfortable and outfitted with subway tiles and brass fixtures. (Don't miss the Dutch doors and private patios for unplugging amid the greenery-filled outdoors.) There's a beautiful collection of artwork, much of which was created by local artists especially for the hotel. Since the Native just quietly opened its doors in Spring 2017, more amenities, including a chef for their dining concept, will be announced soon.

This is a beautiful little spot along the PCH. You should note that this is now called THE NATIVE HOTEL and is under new management since 2016. It has been completely gutted and remodeled. Everything about this space is beautiful. The rooms are so cute and spacious. There's plenty of space and seating inside each room. The bed is comfortable with great linens. Decor is thoughtful. The office will walk you to your room and is responsive to all questions and inquiries. There are no TVs which is a great thing - take time and disconnect. Parking is free and by your room. There are no screens in the windows which would be a nice addition. The only issue we had on our visit was that the showers created a lot of condensation which took a while to resolve. (Screens could possibly help this because then the windows could be opened and bugs wouldn't be an issue.)
I'd give this 10 stars if I could and have actually discussed a return to Malibu just for this hotel.

Amazing staff super stylized rooms. Love this place. All original art. The shower is large with great water pressure and towels. The beds are super comfy. The solid cider block walls block out all sound. This is the coolest motel in Cali!! I don't want to leave. Plus the pricing is a steal.

This little place is charming. It is a motel. It has been totally renovated and streamlined. As you can see from the map it is not near the water, I do in early September wish for the beach breeze as there is no air conditioning in the rooms. Cold showers are helping.
The staff are very friendly.
Each room does have a view of the PCH.
With the price charged per night, It could be in there plans for AC in the future.
In this push a button and get what you want world, it is not for most I'm sure. A reminder of days gone by that built strong people.

Nice quiet hotel. It's old, but currently being renovated. Our room had no TV but we weren't there to watch TV so not a deal breaker. Room was very clean and staff was nice. Spoke with the employee at check-in and there are big plans in the works for this place. If you stay here just south of the hotel is Paradise Cove. Great dinner spot with a private beach.

This is a charming little spot, conveniently located between the best beaches in Malibu as well as some of the best restaurants. It's just off the PCH, but it is set far enough back that you can enjoy the quiet that the California coast brings. The rooms are bright and sunny, beautifully done with a modern yet rustic simplicity. I enjoyed the stay. It's just been renovated, and the new owners seem to have taken a lot of and care to give their guests a good experience, with plans to continue adding more. I'm so happy to find a quiet and cute place in Malibu that offers a reasonable rate comparable to the experience it offers.

Brand new ownership with a total facelift. The staff here is excellent and I like the minimalist clean style of the room. Perhaps a bit pricey for what you get, but that's Malibu! Nice price, and somehow quiet even though it's right off the highway.

This has to be the worst motel that I have ever stayed in. First of all, if you are expecting ANY amenities, forget it. I don't think it's too much to expect a TV, coffee or even a washcloth. And....when requesting coffee for the morning I was given directions to a coffee shop located 10 miles down the road. The shower design is terrible, I think I got more water on the floor than I did on my body. I used the towels that we had to stop the flooding in the bathroom. The floors in our room are a safety issue, especially when it rains. My wife slipped on the floor and injured her ankle. I saw a review that mentions a gym, you got to be kidding! Where was the gym? It took us a couple of days to get the wifi password because there was never anyone at the desk to answer the phone. What a monopoly this place has, what other options do you have in the local area? My recommendation, book lodging far away and make the commute. If I could give this a negative star rating, I would.
