10 New Lunches to Check Out Around D.C.

"In late spring, the Square’s South American and Afro-Caribbean coffee shop started serving even more arepas, Jamaican beef patties, and plantain dishes with an extended lunch menu till 4 p.m. The third-wave coffee shop serves beloved beans from Cafe Unido, a premiere Panamanian roaster with two stateside locations in D.C. Nativo reflects the combined heritages of its co-founders and tenured baristas Victor Nazar Navarro and Nakita Reid, who also have quite the love story." - Emily Venezky

A Latin-Leaning Coffee Shop With a Cool Love Story Debuts Downtown - Eater DC

"A unique new cafe in town marries the South American and Afro-Caribbean flavors of its founders’ native countries. Nativo started pouring inside the Square on Monday, March 25, bringing a long-awaited coffee component to the 25,000-square-foot food hall that debuted in September with globe-trotting stalls dedicated to Spanish street foods, tacos, soft serve, sushi, and much more." - Tierney Plumb

Fantastic upscale made and served with love homemade cafe meals and treats. The summer salad, banana cake, and Moroccan minty lemonade was delicious (photos show how well made they were). Super kind staff.

Inside the food hall The Square, Nativo is a go-to coffee shop that creates Latin-inspired coffee and food. Meeting a friend here on a Friday, Nativo's barista was very friendly and seemed passionate about introducing people to Nativo's coffee. The Cafe Bombon was very good. It comes with sweetened condensed coconut milk and nutmeg. The breakfast arepa hit the spot too. It comes with a fried egg, cheese, and a very tasty green sauce. I added bacon to it. Nativo also has sparkling water out for guests, seating, and a little book shelf with books for guests.

My first visit to Nativo in Washington, DC, was nothing short of spectacular. I drove all the way from Pittsburgh just for the coffee, and it was absolutely worth the journey! The experience didn’t stop at the coffee, though. My wife and I explored a few other menu items—bread pudding, beef patties, and carrot juice—and everything was simply amazing. The flavors were rich and authentic, making each bite and sip a memorable one. What truly set Nativo apart was the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owners, Nakita and Victor, were incredibly accommodating, and the customer service was top-notch. It’s clear that they care deeply about their customers and take pride in what they do. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to DC! Highly recommend.

In an oversaturated coffee market, Nativo's uniqueness, quality, & costumer service stands out. The people are what really make this coffee place stand out. So friendly. Haven't tried the food yet, but I plan, too. Been pleased with the hot drinks & pastries.

Exactly what I've been looking for. A place to stop off for coffee, lunch on or a snack in a nice environment where you can relax and not worry about being harassed. I enjoyed my Sunshine Latte ($5) today, and definitely plan to go back for breakfast or lunch. A few steps from the Farragut West Metro.

I had a great experience at Nativo! The service was incredibly friendly, the lattes were delicious, the arepas and the sandwiches blew me away I absolutely loved it. I had the vanilla oat latte and it was very smooth. They exceeded my expectations compared to other coffee shops in the area, I cannot understand how they had such fire arepas cooking up in the back 10/10. My only complaint is the size of the drinks— the small latte was really tiny. While the quality and service were top-notch, I just wish the portions were a bit larger.

One of the best coffee shops in DC! Great lattes and top-notch food. Their sandwiches have a freshly made and toasted bread that is amazing. Also one of the most delicious mocha lattes I've ever had, if you like those you must try the one here.

This small cafe is punching above its weight with a fabulous and unique menu. I had the cafe bombon (here made with sweetened condensed coconut milk - delicious!) and a breakfast arepa. It's located in the Square so there's plenty of pleasant seating and tables to work at. I will definitely return to try more of their menu.
