Google
They have a wide variety of holistic items for a smaller store; I found most of what I was looking for. HOWEVER, one of the employees followed me ALL OVER the store as if I were a criminal, right up until I checked out and NOT ONCE asked me if I needed assistance. Im going to look for another store to patronize because I certainly do NOT want to spend money where I am not wanted.

Karen T.

Google
I shop there at least once a month for various organic options, Toiletries, supplements. They have a rewards program and their prices are usually lower than other Health Food Stores. The staff is pretty knowledgeable, too!

Concerned C.

Google
Michigan's best!! Top notch Health store, with awesome employees, who are knowledgeable of the supplements they sell. Tammy and Katherine are super!!! By the way, I've been coming to the Natural Food Patch, for decades! Luv em! Please, don't change! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stephanie J.

Google
Fully stocked with many healthy food options, supplements, and beauty products. They even carried a spice that has been out of stock at other stores and was delayed from getting to me from Amazon. Prices are great, too!

Gloria W.

Google
Very Good store, has all different items at discount prices. Check this place out you will not be disappointed

Google
Great health food store, very knowledgeable staff and really nice owners. As a vegan, I'm grateful for all the Deva supplements they carry, especially the chelated Magnesium Glycinate, great product.

Google
Visited this store today and was so disappointed in my experience with staff treated us as if we were not welcomed. The cashier was dismissive and gave off racist vibe. I don’t throw the word racist around loosely. Customer behind me, same racist vibe. I was not done with my purchase and he reached over my head placed his basket on the counter and did not say excuse me or anything. The cashier said to me he was putting his basket down in a nasty tone after I said wow. I refuse to patronize this place again. I’ll keep my money and go somewhere more welcoming! They over price on there food anyway.

Google
Excellent! They have everything you need for wellness. I found so many different types of herbs and supplements during my visit. Very Covid conscious as well. This was my first visit and I was very impressed with their customer service and variety of products.

Yelp
Like was really a great help assisting me with finding my moms favorite snack we talked and I almost forgot I was there to shop and go 5/5 I truly love the energy and vegan selections always

Yelp
Stopping into the Patch for a restock on my must have items. In case you don't know, it's not just food here, there's a little bit of everything in relation to nutrition & health. All your needs from infant to adult, supplements, juices, specialty milks, hard to find teas & tinctures. Organic and boutique deodorants, salves, toothpastes, tonics and creams, all right here. Even hair products, a local jewel if you ask me and all within reasonable pricing.

Yelp
Please do NOT visit this store! The products are toxic and unauthentic! I became extremely ill after applying a product. Seeking legal counsel as we speak.

Yelp
I have been coming to Natural Patches for some years..The people working there will help you out for everything..Never bought food, but snacks and other items..parking is ok..

Yelp
Best health food spot in the land. High quality supplements that are vetted by independent lab testing, local & organic food selections as well as a very knowledgeable staff that will always have a ton of helpful information for you. The fact that they offer a 40$ free gift with the filling of the carrot card takes the cake. Running a small business is exceptionally difficult in the times of Amazon (taking over even doctor appts now!) & all the corporate delivery services. I will shop here as long as it's open!!! Thank you guys for showing up when I imagine it would be easy..to not. PS. I always appreciate the clean bathroom availability & often hilarious music playing over the speakers.

Yelp
I really like here. I have stamp card got gift ...like everyone else. ... any way today I was here to buy vitamin and tea. But unfortunately it was little late. I did check website didn't change time even stay home order.. but open until 6pm now! So just careful check time...before6pm u can get in!!

Yelp
They have everything I need. The service is on point. They have all of the vegan food that the regular stores don't.

Schanna C.

Yelp
Been going here since my little one was knee high to a grasshopper. I always lose the blue card, it's been maybe 15+ years, still haven't got it together with that.

Yelp
A weird vibe today. I was excited their hours had been extended to 8pm but going in after 8 that excitement isn't felt by staff. Going in, a staff member pushing a cart inside went out of his way to avoid holding the door for me who was less than 6 feet behind him, clearly avoiding me. Then, while in store I was creepily followed by staff. I've been shopping here for too many years to count and never got bad vibes until today. It was off. I'm not sure if they're upset about the new extended hours but don't take it out on me. Also being that this space is more inclusive than other health food hubs I didn't expect to be followed or lurked after in store but I guess this is a new day. I felt horribly uncomfortable and question the loyalty I have had since my first visit in 2009.

Theo O.

Yelp
The best in town for anything you need for health care instead taking a bunch of medicine and also make you feel better

Derrick B.

Yelp
this is a wonderful store as far as the items that they sale. what would make the store better if they get rid of the staff and hire more intelligent and kind people. the people that work there are nasty and not welcoming. Tammy and Jay are the laziest ones I've encountered and they all give a very racist vibe even the African Americans that work there and this is coming from a African American. I always have a better and more pleasant experience at western market.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a while, primarily for sustainable beauty products and snacks. Although parking can be a bit of a hassle (as the store is right downtown) there's paid (and some free) street parking if you're willing to walk a few minutes. I agree that the store can be a little crowded at times, but with COVID-19 they're limiting the amount of people inside and requiring masks. If you come in the morning, there's less of a chance of a wait. In all, I really appreciate the diversity of their goods, which spans from larger brands (JASÖN, Tom's) to even more smaller or local brands. The prices are very reasonable and most of the time everything is in stock. Beauty-wise they have everything from alcohol-free witch hazel toner to chlorophyll supplements (also an entire aisle of essential oils). Check this place out if you're looking to buy from small businesses, accommodate a dietary restriction, or clean up your health regimen!

Audrey W.

Yelp
I was there this morning, purchased 78.00 worth of items, I asked for a card to be stamped because I did not know where the other one was that I had gotten over a year ago, the manager told me if I find it they will add the points on the card for me, *Hello* I told her I did not know where it was! It is not friendly customer service when you cannot have a card to be replaced to be punched if the last one was lost.. I called back to the store to complain and asked to speak to a manager, and She also made a statement about using common sense when customers accumulate more than one card, and wants another one to be punched! that did not have anything to do with me. How rude of a statement to made about customers who is patronizing your business!
google avatar

Mia M.

Yelp
I called to inquire what kind of essential oils they sold. The associate who answered was helpful, didn't rush the conversation, and even asked if I had any questions about the product. I was impressed walking into the store. So many different options for essential oils! I will definitely be back. 10/10

Maria W.

Yelp
Friendly and helpful staff, a really good place to go if you're vegan and/or looking to buy plant based products! Great affordable prices as well.

Yelp
This little grocery store is located in an area that has a lot of shops and restaurants to explore. They have a lot of vitamins, health items, vegan items, and any other things you may not find at a traditional grocery store like Kroger or Meijer. I didn't buy anything but looked all around. They had some honey from Michigan that I was tempted to buy but didn't. They also had Just Egg, which is a vegan egg substitute. I haven't tried just egg yet but have been wanting to. This impressed me because I haven't seen it in many stores in a Indy yet. There are a lot of pre made vegan options and items in the fridge and freezer so if you can't find any nearby restaurants I would recommend coming here. But, I was able to find a lot of restaurants that had vegan food in the Detroit area so I'm sure you would find a tasty restaurant. The prices on some of the items seemed a little steep but the staff were very friendly to customers.

Yelp
My go to store for vegan and health care needs. Located on 9 Mile Road downtown Ferndale, the Natural Food Patch is easy to access from the front or back entrance. The store is always well stocked with organic and natural products. It is a finer version of the Better Health store. The store is packed with goods which I appreciate however the aisles are too tight and not easy to get around. Another issue is the store is always crowded. With new apartment buildings, town homes and single family homes recently built in Ferndale and Royal Oak this store is going to be even more packed. I plan my visits here for only during the week late morning to early afternoon. The owner(s) should consider an expansion or another location.
google avatar

Dawn H.

Yelp
Let's start with the great staff. Each time I've visited the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. During this pandemic many items have a small quantity available and the staff always helps me find alternatives. I love that I can get supplements, tea, and fresh produce all at one store. I also enjoy just walking around seeing what new items they have available. If in the area looking for natural products be sure to check them out.
google avatar

Aleena B.

Yelp
What a great place to grocery shop especially when you have so many dietary restrictions! I'm so happy I found this place! They carried just about everything I was looking for. The staff is friendly and I was able to seek help twice during my shopping experience. First I asked help to find the goat cheese and then asked for help to look for some body soap. Only cons is I just wish the store was bigger it was extremely crowded and barley any parking because it is in a downtown area.
google avatar

Alisha H.

Yelp
Fantastic, friendly staff, excellent selection, and very reasonable prices for a local store. I mostly come here for specialty food items, but they also have a great stock of eco friendly cleaning supplies and beauty products.

Krista C.

Yelp
I have shopped here for over 10 years up to 3times a week. Prices are good, staff is available not always friendly, but available. It is downtown Ferndale so parking is a hassle better than RO., but not by much. I have my carrot card and have used it over the years. This mother's day my daughter gave me a gift card and I was so excited. I went in for some vitamins, then went to the register to pay. I got out my carrot card and was told she could not stamp it because I was using a gift card. It dose not say that on the gift card or the carrot card or even a sign at the register. That was the last time I will ever shop there. When I can order the same thing on Amazon for the same price with same or next day delivery, your focus needs to be on customer service.
google avatar

Tristin I.

Yelp
My absolute favorite health market. Whenever I'm on that side of town I make it a point to stop in, and park close . They are well versed in homeopathic, and supplemental health along with many other items.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
I haven't been here since my mother dragged me along years ago. Just as uncomfortable, unorganized and unnecessary as I remember. I can't find items on my very basic list of vitamins. Makes sense because there's a different version of each vitamin in almost every aisle. I can't get eye contact from the "sales" folks. The snobby customers apparently forgot that this is still just Ferndale, even with the addition of storefront ice sculptures. And the janky weird angled aisles are so narrow that I have to make out with the shelves to let ppl pass. So ends my rant. #amazonhereicome

Yelp
This is my favorite local health food store. The staff is SUPER knowledgeable, and they've always had everything I came for and more. The only thing is, it can get VERY crowded, and there isn't much of a system for getting help other than following around the floor staff. Once you get them, they're great, and give you personal attention for sure, but on busy days, they could use one more floor person, I think. They have a vast array of vitamins, supplements, shakes, probiotics, and frozen foods. When I am following a vegan/vegetarian diet, this place is a must for convenience foods.

First P.

Yelp
For the most part this is a good store but.... one of the workers (glasses, beard, smug) (he could be a manager, owner, or whatever) he's very cynical and a while ago he gave me a hard time when I had an item to return. Very opinionated and thinks he knows everything. Makes me not want to shop there but they have a lot of great products and it's close by Your response is much appreciated. Be well

Yelp
Why is this place so amazing? I have wondered this for many years. The vibe is welcoming but unassuming, the clientele is diverse, the selection is great & the prices are fair. Seriously people, this is as good as it gets for a health food store in Metro Detroit, in my humble opinion. The store feels like a cooperative, but they assure me that it is not (maybe the owner would be interested in co-opting at a later date, hint hint ;) It seems like each friendly staff member has a super power somehow related to health (supplements, natural hair products, etc). And not to knock the health food store across the street, but it just cannot compare to the Natural Food Patch (walk in both stores and feel the difference for yourself. It is a strange phenomenon indeed.) Anyways, I drop a lot of dough here each month happily. Not the best place for fairly priced produce but for just about EVERYTHING else its great. Don't forget to get your Carrot Card! :)

Yelp
What I love about Ferndale's Natural Food Patch is their selection, in all areas of the store whether its organic produce, green cleaning products or vitamins Ferndale's Natural Food Patch has brand after brand after brand so shoppers have a good chance of finding what it is their looking for. The beauty/bath product selection that Natural Food Patch offers is fantastic from castile soaps, to animal cruelty free shampoos, too hard to find rose water astringents, Natural food Patch has got em and all for a reasonable price. In addition, they have a great grocery section of organic produce, frozen foods, breads, and gluten free items all at competitive prices. The staff is friendly, but not as knowledgeable as Royal Oak's Nutri Foods, so I always go in with a good idea of what I'm looking for, but 95 percent of the time, they have exactly what it is I've made the trip in for so I leave a happy and healthier customer.

Joseph H.

Yelp
store is dusty, staff looks stressed, I can't ever find what I need. go to Nutri-Foods and ask for Judy, you will be impressed!
google avatar

Shanita R.

Yelp
Love the products, hate the service. They are not nice here. Very apathetic, unhelpful and unfriendly. I only go here when I need something I can't get at the health food store across the street. I've been in multiple times and it is always the same attitude. Maybe you need to be a super vegan hipster to get a smile or a nicer attitude. Maybe they can smell the meat through my pores. If they were nicer I would come here all the time.

Yelp
Unlike Western Market up the street, which also sells a variety of organic, holistic, and natural products, Natural Food Patch feels like an exclusive health food store for the brand of vegan who secretly sneers at anyone who puts milk in their tea or doesn't mind if the chicken isn't free range. I got that impression on a few visits when I was searching for various items. They carry a vast quantity of vitamins, as it's a staple of their business, including those supplements rarely found in mainstream stores. If you need gurana or powdered cowslips in a gluten-free, soluble form, Natural Food Patch is probably your store. You are going to pay for the variety of unusual options though. I'm surprised by some of the markups on simple things, like essential minerals and vitamins (I'm talking B-12, not rarefied selenium or milk of magnesia). Definitely price shop for an expectation of what these things cost to make sure you're paying what you want. However, for those with allergies, food restrictions, and dietary choices, this store is probably a godsend. As the only thing I seem to be allergic to is one of my three cats, I don't rely on wheat- or peanut-free products nearly so much. My results are mixed. The interior space is maximized to the point of being a Ferndale souk or bazaar, with narrow, crooked aisles, little room to maneuver, and inability for most people to complete a full turn without the threat of knocking into something. Locating objects on the heavy laden shelves can be a bit tricky. I always feel like I need to be extremely careful to avoid dropping or breaking something; with my luck, it'd be very expensive glass bottle of vitamins. As noted by a good many Yelpers, the produce looks terrible. They could do much better, and I am habitually surprised by how roughed up, bruised, and past-due many of the veggies and fruits look. Run up the street to Western Market for the same price and infinitely better quality, as well as on-site parking. Parking is at a strict premium, limited largely to the street or the connector Breckenridge lot behind the Rust Belt Market. Access from the rear is pretty easy, but not so much fun if you have five to ten bags to carry.

Yelp
I've been frequenting health food stores forever, and this place truly has anything I could ever want and then some. In addition to the usual array of unpronounceable supplements (which seem to number in the millions here), they have a surprisingly large selection of natural/organic personal care products, environmentally-friendly cleaning & household goods, and a small but well-stocked grocery section. I'm impressed that the grocery section is so small yet seems to have such a great selection. They have really covered all the bases! General ingredients, packaged snacks, fresh produce & dairy (as well as vegan dairy-ish products, like animal-free cheese), plus a really great frozen section - I could seriously do almost all my shopping here. Some big box stores have one or two items from the brands carried here (i.e. Bob's Red Mill and Amy's Organics) but I never even knew there was such a great variety available - it's all here! The produce section is small, but unlike most health food stores, it all looks very healthy, shiny, and fresh. The prices are excellent too, easily the same prices (or cheaper) that you'd find on the same items at Meijer. That makes it even more likely that I'll stop here and see what I can stock up on before going to the great big grocery for anything. The 1-star deduction is for the maneuverability of the store. I can barely make it down the aisles with a little basket over my arm, and if someone is standing there gazing at a supplement display (which is often, they're pretty overwhelming), there's no way to get around them. I got trapped on the opposite side of the store and couldn't find an open route to shampoo! I'd hate to be in here with a wheelchair or stroller (well, I'd hate to be anywhere with a wheelchair or stroller, but especially here). I guess that's the price you pay for having a kadrillion items in stock: super narrow aisles and lots of 'em.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this store cuz they carry everything. They can order most things if they don't. And the floor staff are super knowledgable!! Additionally, their prices are great. Even compared to buying products online at "discount" prices. To further sweeten the deal, if you spend $40 you can collect a punch stamp and once you have 10, you earn $40 free products. That's 10% discount, which may not sound great but if you're going to spend $40 on the same products you can buy elsewhere, why not earn a stamp!? And their prices are not higher than other shops. Ie: the same brand of ezekiel bread cost $4/loaf at natural food path and cost $4.49 at meijer and trader joes. Down side is the aisles are extremely narrow and you're constantly interrupted to move while browsing.

Yelp
The store and prices are great -- the customer service is horrible :-/ This is my third experience with J.J - Who I believe is the owner. I'm not sure why he's so rude and bitter? Here is what I experienced: 1) I returned and a frozen item I bought the day before and he said it couldn't be returned. I mentioned it's not noted on the return policy - he says it's posted all over the store. But me and my husband looked and it's not. No where does it say frozen items can't be returned:-( 2) He charged me the higher price for dual marked vitamins. I choose not to say anything since I really wanted to support this local store. 3) A cashier placed money on the counter instead of in my mothers hand. I'm not sure what's with the owner J.J or his past experiences, as well as some of the cashiers but this place needs to treat everyone with respect no matter what bad experiences they've had in the past. They also need to understand there are good people trying to support this local place and want it to thrive :-( Unfortunately this has soured my experience and I JUST started coming here and is very new. I'd rather pay more money somewhere else or even online. To be treated this way at a health food store promoting good eating and animal rights is really sad :-(. So I'm off to Nutri-Foods in downtown Royal Oak, then Wholefoods, or Trader Joe's.

Yelp
If you want organic without having to pay Whole Foods' prices, then Natural Food Patch is definitely the place. It also lacks the sterile yuppie vibe of Whole Foods and offers you a very hippie atmosphere. The selection of supplements and other non-comestible items is incredible, especially given the space, but what's really remarkable is their food selection. I've never been blown away by their produce (hence the lack of a fifth star), but their frozen and boxed foods, as well as their cheese, hummus, etc, is impressive. They certainly don't have the selection of Whole Foods, but they cover the bases well, and for a LOT less money.
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
I'm a big proponent of shopping local so it bugs me that I've only been here a few times. I think this is most likely due to: 1. Their early weekly closing time of 7pm. 2. The sudden bouts of claustrophobia I succumb to while trying to traverse their sardine-can aisle setup, and sometimes the people I inadvertently bump into are kind of rude (contrary to most, I find the Patch's service okay, but some of the patrons can be a bit...ungracious). I wouldn't buy fresh produce here, as it always seems to look somewhat tattered. They have a large-ish selection of natural health/beauty products, as well as vitamins and supplements. The 'bulk' items here actually come pre-packaged, which is a drag if you only need a small amount. UPDATE: ok, they do sell coffee. It's pre-packaged, and the kind that comes in 1lb bags comes from a local Traverse City roaster. :) Ferny IS lucky to have a place like this in its environs. Now if only I could somehow prognosticate when the Patch would be crowd-bare...
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
-1 star for claustrophobic conditions -1 star for awful produce -1 star for that weird hippy store stink -1 star for cashiers with no sense of urgency -1 star for closing at 7pm during the week +1 star for the sheer range and volume of supplements +1 star for the house packaged dry staples (wheat flour, quinoa, spelt) My real beef with NFP is that I just hate shopping here: it's always a hassle, whether I'm trying to find parking, having to walk/run up there from home before they close at 7pm, or just dealing with the cramped aisles and insanely slow checkout. However, NFP fills a vital need in the area. I try to eat healthy, take more supplements than I really need, and hoard dry food. For supplements, this is the place to go. For produce and food related items, I'd much rather go to Western Market.
google avatar

Noelle L.

Yelp
I'm so glad this place exists a mile from my house. Their selection is great for a store of their size, and the prices are pretty reasonable considering much of the merchandise is organic. Personally I would love it if more space was dedicated to produce rather than vitamins and potions, but that's just me; I'm sure others go there only for the tinctures and supplements. Don't go at a busy time unless you enjoy being severely cramped and having to constantly back up your cart to accommodate other shoppers- but I guess that's the trade-off for them being right downtown. Even if their selection is smaller, I'd much rather give a local business my money than someplace like Whole Foods (which is also much farther away), especially one with better prices and a Frequent Shopper card that gives you $40 in free groceries!
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Natural Food Patch has been around for more than 10 years now. I actually worked there BEFORE they opened and for their first year of business. The store is small but they do a lot with the space. Small but efficient section of organic produce, frozen foods, natural snacks, supplements, juices, etc. Really, this little place carries all the staples of one stop shopping for a health food store. The prices are fair though I still say Whole Foods is cheaper when you compare to the 365 brand. My knock on this place is the ownership. Being that I worked there, I witnessed how the owner treats his employees. That's with little respect to the point where I even witnessed customers saying something to him about it. I really question if this guy is into health food, never came across that way.
google avatar

Brad K.

Yelp
Best prices on natural / essential oils, soaps, and a lot of organic / better quality foods. Really love this place. Nice staff. Old fashioned feel.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
I kind of think of Natural Food Patch as my Vitamin and Health Food Store. I can't say I can buy everything I need here, but they do have a big selection of the healthy stuff. If you need vitamins, herbs, Whey protein, for any reason -you will find it here. And you'll also find a staff that can help you pinpoint what you need. I'm not one to go for the veggies when I can get really great produce just down the street, but they get points for trying. There are plenty of products on the vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free wave around here. Yes, it's generally a bit packed, but folks are friendly and you'll leave with whatever you came for -and then some.
google avatar

Sara Y.

Yelp
My favorite local health store! As a raw foods chef I find many hard to find ingredients here and support a small local business over the big corporate guys. All the produce is organic and you don't have to question the purity of any of the foods or home products.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Natural Food Patch was one of the first stores that I would frequent for vegetarian food selections some years ago. And even though it's been 6 or so years, and I now live in Washington, DC, Natural Food Patch is still the best for certain health products. As many of the other reviews indicate, as far as produce is concerned, they do not have much. But where they do shine is their general offering of vegetarian meats, soups, etc. They offer many products that I have never seen elsewhere, and really given the size, their prices are very competitive, better than Whole Foods on many. I really wish I had a place like this in DC.
google avatar

Kristina K.

Yelp
The Natural food patch has the best service and best prices in Metro Detroit on vitamins and natural products. The owner is wonderful and management is caring and attentive with each customer. Staff goes above and beyond to satisfy customer's needs. The store is well stocked and provides many options and unique items you can't find at other health food stores in the area. Love this gem in a great location.

Yelp
NFP is fine by me. I'm not really into supplements or vitamins and I don't prefer their grains or produce, so I only really come here for the giant tub of Earth Balance spread, Oskri Dark Chocolate Coconut bars, and Snap Pea Crisps. Fortunately, that isn't very often because I get pretty impatient waiting in their usually slow check out lines and dealing with the horrible store layout. I will say that I would not consider the patrons "stinky ghetto herbalists" like one reviewer (side note: when did being mean and maybe racist become so cool? oh wait, that was 5th grade.) I've only encountered a diverse and friendly crowd.

Yelp
If you like your food like you like your hippies... Smelly like Kimchi and locally sourced.. NFP is for you! Ever helpful staff, a wide variety of goods, what more could you ask of a local grab n go.

Yelp
I'm surprised to see such indifferent reviews about this store! Yes, the isles are a tad narrow and that being said, it can be quite a issue when shopping there during high traffic times, but the store is set up in this fashion to provide customers with more organic and fresh products! I truly enjoyed the customer service I received when I was there, and I was able to get everything that I was looking for. if youre looking for a wide Tulsi tea selection, they definitely have it. Along with almost all Dr. Bronners products! Definitely will be returning.

Yelp
The Natural Food Patch has an incredible selection of vitamins and teas and the prices are amazing. I've been shopping at The NFP for years and love the staff.

Yelp
They don't make legit health food stores where I live... so this place amazed me. Love this place!
