First time here. After driving by this place many times and read a few reviews I dropped in. I would say that the food was about average. It wasn’t spectacular. It wasn’t bad either like many other reviews, the chicken was slightly dry. It’s a mix of dark and white meat the rice was really good actually it was moist and steamed. The salad was actually OK. It was cold lettuce, crunchy and outland dressing. The entire meal cost $14 with tax not sure if I would go back and spend that kind of money when I can go to anywhere else and get a pretty good meal for the same price.

Nice quantity of good, fresh-tasting comfort food, and their tender chicken tastes like it was properly cleaned prior to cooking. IYKYK. Like I'm eating at my gran's house. I don't like that iceberg lettuce is the default side instead of macaroni salad. Yes, ask for it, but if someone else is ordering for you and they forget, you end up with iceberg lettuce salad. The service is really nice! idk, I like the "dated" not corporatized look of the place - a testament to how long they've been around. It looks and smells clean. You don't smell raw chicken or unwashed floors. And they support contactless payment.

I've been coming here for at least 35 years. I've always gotten #11 teriyaki chicken extra sauce to go. I can easily get two meals with the amount of chicken. For those who are complaining about the charge for extra sauce. buy the LARGE and take the rest home! They make the teriyaki sauce in house. Does anyone think the ingredients are free? EVERYTHING IS SAN DIEGO has gone up. Yes the salad is old school. But it's fresh AND crisp! Yes, it's hard to find good help. I come for the#11. And it is🔥! I could go on debating the naysayers. I think after 35 years of just getting the #11 with the same quality & consistency, I'm going to try the beef! Give your stomach a treat and try this place!

I heard about this place on social media and decided to give it a try. I ordered the #11 Teriyaki Chicken Plate with the Macaroni Salad. The staff here were friendly and I got my food within 5 minutes. The Teriyaki Chicken was very moist and with that sauce it was a perfect combination. I do recommend getting another sauce on the side as well. The macaroni wasn’t anything to rave about but the chicken was absolutely on point. I did also like the fact that they had special hot sauces to choose from on the counter. I would definitely recommend getting the #11 Teriyaki plate. If you’re looking for something healthy,fast, and delicious I highly recommend this spot. I will absolutely be coming back here in the near future.

I used to live around the corner from here but never stopped by when I lived there. I was in the neighborhood recently and decided to give this place a try after seeing some reviews on Reddit. Everything on the menu looked great! I went with the teriyaki chicken and it was delicious! The chicken was flavorful and moist! Not too much sauce! The server was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be coming back.

100 degrees inside the place. Bad attitude from workers, didn't put even close to enough dressing and then wanted to charge for a little bit more. 3 woman standing around laughing and talking, but can't take care of the customer properly. Definitely spending my money somewhere else now. Place has gone down hill over the last few years. Been going for 20 years, but not anymore. Plenty of places that would love my business. It's sad it's become one of those places I won't recommend anymore.

Been coming here for years and I love that they have kalbi and bulgolgi on their menu. Their natural chicken is still as delicious as I remember.

That’s too bad this place is turning away long-time customers based on reviews here that had recent similar experiences. We’re talking about 20+ years of loyalty! Prices went up on dishes, which is understandable, but now they charge for teriyaki sauce! Really? Charging extra sauce for teriyaki chicken? On top of that, the small plastic cups aren’t even filled, so you’d need to buy at least 5 just to make the dish enjoyable. Very disappointing after so many years. Nickel-and-diming people over sauce will definitely give people a bad experience and asking for tips with bad service.

You ca not go wrong with Natural Style Chicken. The chicken is always cooked so well and the sides are good. I've tried their fries, cold slaw and macaroni salad. They were good but out of the three I would go with the cold slaw. The restaurant is very clean and there is a lot of ppaspace. I did notice that the majority of the customers are to go orders. There is usually a lady that is taking care of the front. Taking orders and doing everything else. I suggest having two people to assist with the front desk, the last two visits have not been the best when it comes to service. She seemed bothered when customers walkes in or placed their order. Very short with the customers but having a conversation with the cooks, didn't look good to me. I understand feeling overwhelmed, maybe another person may help with the stress. Overall, if you are in the area try the food...Best chicken in town!

I'm sorry but no. Not only does the place need a serious ventilation cleaning/upgrade but the food is so incredibly subpar... The corn tasted like it was originally frozen for a long time and then way over boiled. It was watery and wrinkly with no flavor. The chicken was SO dry. And tasted like it was cooked at the beginning of the day and been sitting out. The galbi was tendony and tough in a lot of spots and it ended up gaving my husband a super bubbly gassy stomach. Never again.

Ok so the amount of food you get here is crazy. I shared a plate with my friend and we couldn't even finish it. I asked for chicken breast instead of dark meat because I wanted a healthier option. It had no flavor and just seemed like it was boiled breast lol. Edible with the sauce but not very good. Next time I'm gonna try the dark meat

Tasty and moist whole rotisserie chicken with soft dinner rolls. Garlic steamed vegetables and potato salad were standard. Service was friendly but slow given limited staffing and the no frills ambiance makes carry out the better option compared with dining in.

The sign out front proudly self proclaims the best teriyaki chicken. They are not far off the mark with that comment. Their chicken is fresh and phenomenal. Let's talk about the 40 years. Yes, 40 years and their inside eating area feels that way. It needs a major feng shui and clean up. Not that it's dirty, but when you first enter, the atmosphere does not match the fact of how great their chicken is.

I wanted something yummy and basic, and this definitely checked those boxes for me. I got the chicken teriyaki- tons of chicken, rice & salad- the teriyaki sauce was delicious. The lady who helped me was sweet. I'll definitely be back.

Natural Style Chicken has an interesting menu. In addition to chicken they also have some Japanese and Korean dishes. I tried the kalbi ribs with rice. Rice was moist and garlic infused. I don't like the bitter flavor of garlic and that's all I could taste of the rice so I didn't eat it. Ribs also had that bitter garlic flavor but not as much. Ribs were kinda chewy. I would not order the kalbi or the rice again. It took awhile to get the garlic flavor out of my mouth. If you are a garlic lover this is the place for you. Cashier was nice and my order didn't take too long.

Ordered a chicken and rice mixed with kimchi plate. While the food itself was really tasty the plate I couldn't help but to be disappointed with the portion size. For $16 I would expect to be full

I'm genuinely confused about the negative reviews of this place. You get a great meal, LARGE portions, for an amazing price. I mean, you can't beat the prices here, especially given how exorbitantly expensive San Diego is. My friend and I were just shocked with how affordable this place was. Cashier was nice, and the food came out very quickly. The place isn't fancy or showy. You just come for the chicken! Will be back.

I love this place ! I had the teriyaki chicken plate ! Delicious ! All dark meat chicken with white rice. I added the sauce myself . I had the side salad with blue cheese ..yummy . This is my new chicken spot ! I'm gonna get a whole chicken to take home next time. Looks like a dive but damn it's good ! I highly recommend!

Very very mediocre - ordered the Teriyaki Chicken with rice and salad (dry lettuce) their most popular dish was told... But it looks so unappetizing to start - just plonked on a plate and very dry chicken and overall just a mush of food. Plenty seating although housekeeping looked average and then they don't have public restrooms which is actually illegal with the amount of seating available. I ate some as I was hungry but Def not a repeat for me and cannot recommend! It says 40 yrs of serving but I just don't know how...

Was in San Diego for work and wanted a chicken meal that wasn't fried or too greasy so naturally I had to check this place out. Pound for pound this is probably the most generous teriyaki chicken joint I've ever been to. Monster portions of meat, absolutely amazing if you're looking for a meal with a solid amount of protein. Quick service and the chicken decor in the store was cute.

This place is SO delicious and such an excellent price for the teriyaki chicken plate. I get it with white rice and macaroni salad. The amount of chicken that comes with the plate is enough for two servings! A hidden gem of San Diego for sure.

I hate to do this because I have loved this place for a decade. BUT... I got violent food poisoning from my last visit that lasted 5 days and 2 visits to the ER. I got the #11 (as always) and 2 egg rolls. I had to share as it was a horrendously unpleasant experience. I have to say, the food tasted like it always does so I assumed nothing. I wish this did not happen, but it did. This is only one bad incident in a decade of eating here 2X a month. Please consider that, they have been amazing until this.

They've been an around a long time I hear, but yesterday was my first time. I felt genuinely welcomed and was fed well. Their food and service make you feel like you're breaking bread at a family table. As known by many and said by many, their chicken is noteworthy and worth some praise. I had the kimchi chicken fried rice, as did the boyfriend. Thank you to the staff and chef at Nanay's Natural.

This place just hits. The teriyaki chicken has no right being so good for that price. The portions are fantastic for 2 meals. The service was friendly and fast (sub 5 minutes) for my to-go order. This place has made me a reoccurring customer. I plan to be back soon.

Food was super good and the portions were huge. I shared with my brother but would have had leftovers if I didn't. The service was good and the food came out relatively fast too. Had indoor and outdoor seating, both were really comfortable and giving nice places to eat as well. If you're looking food good food, and good portions I would highly recommend.

Great chicken. I got the 1/4 white meat Rotisserie Chicken and it was very good. It came with salad and rice. You can substitute for 2 others sides. The teriyaki sauce was delicious. Very reasonable priced too. I would recommend any e who is looking for good chicken to eat here.

I would come back here in a heartbeat !! The teriyaki sauce on their chicken is just something else, so Amazing !! I also was able to try their rotisserie chicken which was on point also. My favorite was their Korean beef short ribs ! So much flavor. Their egg rolls and pot stickers were also yummy ! Lots of seats to sit inside or outside. Lady at the cashier was also very helpful in helping me choose from the menu and recommended me some items. Definitely gonna make my way here to try something else!

Went here a few days ago and ordered a teriyaki combo. The portions are big for one person so one combo plate is great for you to share with a friend

One meal can feed two people and a dog ... it's quite a bit of food ! Service is friendly and quick . Ambiance matches their location . If you are in the area .. STOP HERE ! Don't let the outside ambiance make your mind up ... go inside and get some yummy food !

One of the few places I'd go for just basic teriyaki. I found this place through a former coworker. He asked me if I wanted something and I declined. While I'm down for a hole in the wall but this place was unknown to me. Being from SD I've never heard of this place. This place looks like a throw back to the early 90s. When I smelled his food in the office it smelled fire. The next time we went, I got half chicken teriyaki and half beef. Normally, I don't get beef dishes like this but that was the better option. The chicken isnt bad, but the beef was fire. The best advice I can say is call and order ahead. They take a while to cook their food. That is even if there is no line. That's not a knock, just something to understand. 15-20 minutes prep time is pretty common. Order ahead and it's not a problem. I will definitely come back as there's really no other teriyaki places in SD that I like. They also have some famous bodybuilders who used to include them as part of their diet. I can understand why, a very generous portion size with rice? That works for me.

Seriously this is the BEST tasting chicken ever to experience. I seriously come 2/3 times a week since the first time I tried it. I don't even cook chicken anymore nor do I get chicken anywhere else except from this spot. The service is amazing. Teriyaki is definitely one of a kind. I can't wait to try other items on the menu but I just can't get away from just the chicken.

My absolute go-to chicken spot for their wood fire grilled rotisserie chicken AND their spare ribs are delicious are amazing as well! 10/10 for their chicken soup, 10/10 half chicken plate, they have such good white rice, and their SAUCE. If they sold it in the buckets I would buy it. Their service is whatever but it's quick and you don't need them for much. Just go in, order at the counter and grab it to go or can hang out - lots of indoor seating and there's a tv always playing some older movie for entertainment. Very chill environment.

A group of us came here on a whim, having read some solid reviews. Our experience was very different from what we had read. It's a bit run down, clean, but not exactly in any sort of great shape. There's enough seating, at least for the amount of people we saw come and go while we were there. Service, while friendly, is slow. This wasn't just our perspective, but backed up by the amount of people who walked out vice waiting and the frustration of a few who were waiting for thier food. Food wise, it was mediocre at most. The salad accompanying the lunch plate was simply iceberg lettuce and carrots. The meat itself was very, very plain. Most all with me added copious amounts of hot sauce to add flavor, any flavor, to the chicken they had selected. The rice was cooked correctly, but as well, nothing to be excited about. The added sauce for my meal didn't provide anything extra. It's a hopeful spot, with strong support by regulars, and perhaps we hit it on an off day. However, it seems just off enough that we will likely not return.

I've been here 4 times the last 2 months and I gotta say I'm glad I've found this place. Having to deal with diverticulosis my diet has changed drastically. I can't eat fatty foods so the rotisserie chicken plate will do. It has huge portions that can make 2 meals. The teriyaki sauce is sweet and runny. I haven't had a flare up so this is definitely my go to.

I love the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef here. Comes with rice and salad (I like to swap the salad for veggies, only 50 cents extra) and it's super reasonably priced, especially for the amount of food you get. The chicken is better with the sauce so I recommend getting it on top and on the side and don't forget the chili sauce too. Yum!

Natural Style Chicken has been operating out of the Midway Towne Center for a long time. There was signage posted inside the store with quotes from reviewers about how good the chicken teriyaki was here (e.g. "... been eating it for nearly 20 years."). With that kind of feedback, I wanted to try some of their food. The parking spaces in front of the suite usually have openings so finding one isn't a problem. Half of the menu was comprised of sides ranging from the plain like rice and french fries to more ethnic choices like chicken egg rolls and kimchi. Rotisserie chicken (a la carte or as a combo), teriyaki, and Korean style BBQ were the main offerings. My choice was the rotisserie chicken in the form of a 1/4 white meat combination. The plate came with a half corn on the cob, a roll, and white rice. Maybe I should have heeded the one quote and ordered the chicken teriyaki instead. The rotisserie meat was dry, and the flavoring wasn't much better than what you can get at El Pollo Loco or Boston Market. The corn cob was cold and tasted bland. I wasn't impressed with what I received, therefore I gave a 2.5 star rating for my dining experience and rounded up because of the pleasant service from the worker staffing the service counter.

Found this on Yelp, got it to go and couldn't believe how heavy each container was - way more food than we expected! We each had the teriyaki plate with rice and substituted fresh veggies for the salad. Veggies were cooked fresh, big chunks of tender rotisserie chicken were seasoned well. I ate and ate and still had 1/2 left to eat the next day. Could use a little more teriyaki sauce, easily remedied, but it was amazing. We will definitely be back!

Um. I don't understand the hype AT ALL Got the number 11 Really? This is standard fare mid level teriyaki chicken and white rice, with bagged lettuce and grocery store Kraft style Italian. Am I missing something? The hype on this place is like HUH?

Came down with a nasty summer cold, been craving a good chicken soup. OH MY GOD this is probably the best chicken soup I've ever tasted. The broth was flavorful, it's loaded with dark meat chicken, potatoes and carrots. The chicken was soooo tender. $10 for 32oz. Can't beat it. I'd order this even if I wasn't sick lol. Place has an old school hole-in-the-wall feel which added to the charm in my opinion

I've been coming here for over a decade. The food has always been consistent in quality, delicious and satisfying. I usually get the chicken teriyaki plate with sauce on the side and they give you a ton of food. This plate is usually 2 meals for me. The salad is a basic iceberg salad, but you can upgrade to steamed veggies, which is great. The amount of chicken they give you is crazy and it's always super tasty. The staff are always super nice and quick. Love this place.

If your hours are listed that you close at 9pm, close at 9pm. Came to get food at 8:30pm and they were already closed. I have had this happen in the past with this place, and thought maybe it was just a one off. But no, I think they just close whenever they want. Bad customer service.

Moved to North. County. Miss this place but anytime I am down, I am here. Been the same since the first time I came here in 1992. OMG! I love this place. #11, ranch, extra sauce, ever time for 30 freakin years. I will never stop coming here.

This spot is kind of far from me but its way worth the drive. The staff is always super friendly and food is amazing. We always order the chicken teriyaki plate that comes with salad and white rice. For the salad you can pick a dressing and they have ranch, blue cheese, thousand island, honey mustard and balsamic. I got thousand island and it was sooo goooddd! Tastes just like In N Out sauce but without the pickles. But now to the main course, the CHICKEN!! its so good. The teriyaki is sweet and savory. And the portions are HUGE...the plate will definitely fill u up and for $10 its an amazing deal. 10000% recommend coming here.. the ambiance is not the best but the food makes up for it!

This place is so good. Under rated. Cheap, quick as f** and good too. Perfect balance between cost, health and taste. Woman that rings me up is always nice. More of a takeout place than a sit down vibe

Been coming here for at least a decade and the high quality food and service has never changed. We have been getting the chicken teriyaki plate with loads of succulent roasted chicken with amazing teriyaki sauce and a massive scoop of sticky rice and green salad with the BEST HOMEMADE RANCH DRESSING EVER! I can easily split mine with my adult daughter and my husband struggles to finish his order. They have lots of other equally delicious food like bulgogi, and kalbi and homemade sides of macaroni salad, potato salad, veggies, corn on the cob, and even chicken nuggets. You can also buy a whole or half or quarter chicken with sides and they have a nice selection of cold drinks. The food is always served fresh and the staff is friendly and the service is impeccable and quick. You will wish you had known about this place a long time ago, I'll bet you! The prices are so reasonable compared to most places these days.

This review is solely based on their chicken soup. I do not recommend it whatsoever. It is literally a pot of garbage. They do not clean up the chicken at all they just throw chicken potatoes, carrots, which get quite mushy by the way and cabbage in with the chicken. They cook it all up and serve you that as soup. The chicken breaks down and all of it stays in the soup. I found bone gristle skin, lots of veins and cooked blood in with my chicken Soup. These are items I normally throw in the garbage not to mention that many of the chicken pieces which were all dark are bloody. It has no flavor at all except fat. When I eat it all I can taste is fat, no seasonings whatsoever.

The cashier was very short and rude. I placed an order of 3 chicken teriyaki with dressing on the side and teriyaki on top. I asked for a receipt and she ignored me. I didn't get a receipt. When I got my order, there were barely any teriyaki sauce on the chicken. I was charged 50 cent extra to sub the mac salad. She never told me. The chicken was cold and under seasoned. I used to be a regular here. I don't know why it went down hill.

It was my first time coming here as a recommendation from my co worker and I am so happy I went with him because the chicken here is so tasty and tender! We came around lunch time like 11:30am and it wasn't busy at all maybe there was 2 people ahead of us but I expected it to be quite a wait. We ordered our food and got it right away! I was honestly surprised how quick we got our food and was really happy with the portions and the flavor is great! I'll definitely come back again!!! Come check this place out for some bomb chicken!
