The 13 Best Restaurants In Troy, New York - Troy - The Infatuation

"You can find some of the best diner-style cooking in the entire state of New York at Naughter’s. Try to snag the vinyl booth next to a stack of classic rock cassette tapes, and settle in for a meal that you’re going to be thinking about long after you’ve left the Capital Region. We can’t stop thinking about their chopped cheese and the vegan Industry Eggplant sandwich, the latter of which comes with a garlicky aioli as well as roasted and pickled peppers. If something gets served with a side of mac and cheese, get it, because theirs is made with orecchiette and finished on the flat top, which results in some delightful crispy bits. As with any diner, breakfast here is always a good idea." - carina finn koeppicus

Naughter’s does not miss. Period. Every time we have friends or family in town, we take them here for brunch or dinner. And when we want a slow-roll morning that’s a bit special, we come here too. Food is outstanding, vibe is laid-back and friendly, and we have a sweet time every single time.

Right from the start, I believe this place is run by a passionate group of people. It’s welcoming, and the service is incredible. The Subway sandwich was massive and, most importantly, flavorful. I highly recommend this place to anyone and would definitely add it to my list of go-tos.

Google
Wow! This place is amazing, the staff and the food are 10 star! The best breakfast we've ever had in the Capitol District Area. Highly recommend.

Google
First off - what an absolute gem of a place! Came here on a Sunday of a holiday weekend mid afternoon and our group of 4 was able to sit right away. Really casual diner-like atmosphere with a counter and only a few tables. Patrons are encouraged to grab drinks from a cooler if you don’t want coffee or tea. Turned out to be some of the be some of the best diner food I’ve ever had. The folks who took us here said that the industry eggplant sandwich was their death row meal and just WOW. While I like eggplant, I normally wouldn’t go for it. I am SO glad I did. The pesto mayo and the crispiness of the eggplant and hash brown lives rent free in my head. The cherry peppers provide a perfect little kick. The pancakes were also top tier. It’s hard to nail a classic and this place does. BEC was also hefty and delicious. I am already dreaming about coming back here. Thank you for the joy!

Google
Small inside (Only 9-10 seats) plus counter service, with a couple of tables on the sidewalk, but the service and food was excellent. If you sit at the counter, you can watch them prepare your meal - you can see the attention to detail in his movements.. The lunch menu isn't large, and we wanted something different, so we ordered the chick pea salad and industrial eggplant sandwiches. The chick pea salad was surprisingly delicious, and my eggplant was also impressively tasty. And then I realized our meals were vegan as well (we are not vegetarians). I cut the eggplant sandwich in half (which squished it a little) and took a picture so you can see the layers of flavor. The fries were also very good. Very simple, like the french fries we would get decades ago. No coating. No processing, just fries cooked perfectly. {Edit] We revisited and came for breakfast this time. Home fries were awesome - the best I've had in years . The chef really knows the difference between eggs over easy and eggs over medium. Toast was perfectly grilled (not toasted), moist, crunchy, but not greasy. They really care about each item then cook. Atmosphere was old fashioned and simple, but fun. Like a luncheonette from the 60's. Great music.

Google
I’ve been to Naughters twice, and honestly, I’m a little surprised by its high rating. It’s an adorable diner with charming interiors that have a vintage vibe. When you enter, you’ll find a few tables and some bar seats. Due to the limited seating, depending on the day and time, you might encounter a wait. The menu at Naughters is small. I’ve tried their vegetable hash and the eggplant sandwich. The food was just okay, but it was nice to see the chefs cooking right in front of you in the open kitchen. The staff were quick, patient, and attentive. The coffee was also just okay. One advantage this spot has is that it’s open till 2:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, making it a potential go-to for a late-night bite after drinks. I felt like my experience was pretty average, and I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to visit again.

Google
Update: i finally tried the french toast here and it is amazing! Crunchy and tossed with sugar. Everyone should order this, perhaps as an extra dish to share. The burger here is really good as are the fries. The tuna melt is great, wish it came with some more fresh lettuce or tomatoes. Original review: Amazing little spot in downtown troy. Super cool vibes and great staff, the food is simple. Sometimes have to wait a bit as its very small inside but usually things move fairly quickly. Love the coffee refills too. Homefries, egg, toast, bacon egg and cheese are all good Cant wait to try the chopped cheese

Naughter's --- ✅ Highlights - Cozy local spot with a laid-back vibe. - Known for creative cocktails and friendly bartenders. - Great for casual hangouts or a relaxed night out. - Often features live music or events. --- 👎 Considerations - Limited food menu (if any), mainly a bar-focused venue. - Can get crowded on weekends. --- 🎯 Overall A chill neighborhood bar with charm, solid drinks, and good energy. Ideal for unwinding or catching up with friends. Rating: 4.2 / 5

Yelp
The food was amazing, service was incredible. Super quick!! Great ambiance too, absolutely loved the set up and feel. I'm not removing a star for this because it was only one song, but they put on a screamo metal song. I love all music but it was pretty loud and jarring for the cozy 50's inspired space. If it was put on again, i probably would do take out next time.

Yelp
Great little resturaunt in Troy - basic fare as well as some more creative options- such as French omelets, leek gravy and goat cheese. Also a good selection of vegetarian options. I got the basic 2 eggs, homefres, toast and bacon. I usually steer away feom home fries because many places under cook them. They cooked their home fries perfectly. Son got the French toast which he absolutely loved. It was thick, covered in cinnamon sugar and you could tell it was homemade. Great vibe, super nice waitstaff , would come here again.

Yelp
A real neighborhood place to hang out with great brunch options. Service was super friendly and I look forward to my next trip back.

Yelp
Just got the industry eggplant for a takeout order. It was really delicious, I would definitely get it again. It's a breaded fried eggplant with a hash brown on it I think the frozen type, it was some flat rectangular thingy. It also had roasted red pepper on it which added an additional layer of flavor that complemented it, and had marinated cherry peppers which added a nice acidic zing. The pesto mayo was delicious I love pesto I could have it on anything. And the bun was nice and soft very slightly sweet. I will try to replicate this to a certain extent in my own kitchen, really enjoyed the combination of flavors.

Yelp
I love a good diner so I stopped by Naughter's for a quick breakfast while working in the area recently. The space is pretty small and has typical diner vibes. I sat at the counter and got to watch them work their magic on the flat top. I was blown away by the prices - you can get an egg and cheese sandwich for $5! I got the egg and cheese, added sausage, and ordered a hash brown. After tip, this hearty and filling meal was only $11.49! My food was so tasty with perfectly griddled eggs, melty white American cheese, and super crispy hash brown patty. Everyone working was friendly and polite. Loved my experience at Naughter's and I'm sad that I can't get this type of food for this price where I live.

Yelp
No frills, solid service, and great food! Who would have thought I'd find one of the best pancakes ever in Troy. So happy to have the home fries chopped smaller so they're crispier. Surprised that their side of bacon of $5 comes with 5 pieces!! Inflation? Not here. Can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Its 800am on the NY Thruway. We have been on the road since 5am, and I start to wonder where we can stop for brekky. I pull up google maps and Naughters rises to top like cream. I move to yelp and lots of good reviews here too. They were rated 5 stars with 300+ reviews on the G maps. We love stopping in Troy. We already love Defazio's and Lucky Corner. We were ready for a good breakfast spot here. They are open 8am Wednesday to Sunday and close about 1.0am or 2.30am. These are great hours because many restaurants close early in Troy. We once drove thru on Friday night and couldnt find a place to get food during the pandemic, but i digress. The menu is simple but they deliver on what they promise. This is a nice place for the classic diner fare of hotcakes, eggs, homefries and toast. I ordered a side of sausage and got a nice skinless sausage patty. I enjoyed my eggs benedict with canadian ham with a small side salad of arugula. Everything seems to be made from scratch. No powdered eggs or frozen saussge from the restaurant food supplier company. They also had unlimited coffee in these throwback brown ceramic diner mugs. This place is cute and memorable. The service is friendly, efficient and attentive. Naughter's is only about 2 years old and now they expanded next door. Spend your hard-earned dollars here and you won't regret it.

Yelp
Just had breakfast here and I have to say, I am a food snob and I have to say, this food was OUTSTANDING. The wait staff was friendly, accommodating and right on top of providing service even though it was so busy. I tried the eggs Benedict, pancakes, home fries and a bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll. It was all delicious. They make everything from scratch. I also had an espresso, fresh squeezed orange juice and their "in house" Arnold Palmer. I will definitely be visiting there again when I am in the area! Well done Naughter's!!!! Keep Up the great work.

Yelp
Nice diner vibes plenty of street parking. Stopped here for a quick breakfast and it was very good.

Yelp
Was told that Naughter's had the best pancakes so I went in with high expectations (and a little bit of skepticism). They exceeded my expectations. I called ahead to get a pulse check for what the wait was looking like for a party of 3. I was told that it may be a 15-20 minute wait because they were full. To our pleasant surprise, we walked in and had no wait because a table had opened up. The hosts were warm and welcoming. The atmosphere of the space was also vibrant and homey. I had looked at pictures of the menu offerings on yelp ahead of time and it seemed that certain items may have changed. The menu was small but still had some good options and reasonable prices. My dad and I both got the chopped cheese, I got a hotcake on the side and my sister got chocolate chip hotcakes and a biscuit. I also got an iced latte with oatmilk. Both my father and I enjoyed the chopped cheese. It was filling, flavorful, and didn't feel to heavy. The pancake was amazing. It wasn't too sweet, and it was fluffy, light, and overall just amazing. I actually texted a friend that the pancake changed my life. My latte was just as good. The coffee was strong but combined well with the oatmilk and syrup for an overall smooth taste. The food came out quickly and the servers were all attentative and fun! Such a cute, vibey, yummy spot; I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Two different people I knew in the Capital Region suggested I come here, so I knew it must be good. This place gives out cozy vibes, with a few small tables and a long counter. Surfaces are wood - the spot's kind of like if a cafe and a diner had a child. I was hankering for a vegetarian eggs benedict. This isn't a thing that's actually on the menu, but they very kindly let me cheat it when I ordered the veg hash, eggs & toast with a poached egg and a side of hollandaise. Food was super tasty. Potatoes were very crisp. Liberally doused my dish with the much-appreciated bottle of hot sauce that was hanging on the table. A high quality breakfast with no pomp or pretention, just good food.

Yelp
Service was great, Food okay [Troy NY] We had breakfast here at Naughter's before starting our day. We came in to an empty restaurant on a Saturday morning around 8:30a but it didn't take long to fill the modest size eatery. The waitress was welcoming and very friendly. After perusing through the menu we ended up doing a la carte for two-eggs, hashbrown and bacon (for me) and sausage for the hubby. The food is cooked right there in an open kitchen. Our breakfast was served by one of the cooks, perhaps the owner himself, I don't know. I was a bit turned off by all the grease on the hashbrown and bacon. There's seating everywhere. We sat by the front window. You can also dine at the counter or at a table. The ambiance has a vintage touch. Walls hung old photos. There is a shelf with old cassette tapes, right next to a boom box on the countertop. The diner is located in Historic Downtown Troy. 3.5 Stars for my experience. Review #3011

Yelp
The food was delicious. Service was a little slow but the waitress was personable. Great food for the price.

Yelp
Awesome find in downtown Troy! I was between meetings with a colleague and we found Naughter's on Yelp. We walked in, were quickly greeted by super friendly staff and placed our orders. I loved my veggie hash with eggs and toast. Hot and delicious! Eggs were cooked perfectly. My colleague had French toast sticks, sausage and a potato of some sort...he really enjoyed everything. Cool luncheonette vibe. Early hours AND late night hours to serve the bar crawlers. Score.

Yelp
AMAZING food! Friendly servers! we spent a weekend in Albany and ended up eating breakfast here two mornings in a row. absolutely delicious everything! great coffee! can't say enough great things about this place!

Yelp
This place is the real deal! Amazing little retro diner with a lot of personality and seriously good food. My veg hash, eggs and toast -- so good. Sweet potato, beets, onion, carrot peppers were very flavorful, and the eggs were nice and fluffy. And the bread was also so good! My friend got a tuna melt with fries and and she loved it too. I'm obsessed with this place!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
What a welcoming little diner! The staff were so friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. They were gracious about changing details - want bacon on that? No problem! Want those poached eggs a little more medium? No problem! The food was delicious. I've largely stopped eating out because the food seems so mediocre these days, i'd rather have a bowl of cereal at home. But Naughter's did not disappoint - if i'm ever in Troy again, they have a repeat customer.

Yelp
Tiny and delicious. No frills, just incredible food. Limited seating so expect a (worth the) wait.

Yelp
The breakfast was outstanding and the service was very friendly and attentive. I had their special which came with spicy sausages and my partner had the French omelet. Both dishes were prepared to perfection.

Yelp
when we tried to grab SD sliders after the kichen closed, the bartender and 5 regulars all pointed us in the right direction, promising we would find the right "we've been celebrating this guy's birthday-eve for hours and need some comfy food to cap the night" experience at Naughters - and boy oh boy, were they right. The warm lighting and diner vibes gives this spot a feeling of being long loved. With late night post-bar hours, breakfast faves on the menu, and the chillest of cozy decor vibes, there is no doubt in my mind that this place has been the setting of so many stories between friends, partners, and strangers, too. One of the highlights, IMHO, in the cassette collection lining two of the walls and the stereo rocking out the staff's selections. When we visited, Metallica's "...And Justice for All" was the featured album. The food was exactly what we needed - breakfast sammies, chopped cheese, and fries for the table, all cooked fresh for us by the happy staff. Regulars down the bar from us ordered the Industry Eggplant sammie, which will be my choice for my next visit, for sure. Another recommendation from our dining-mates, dipping those fries in a side of pesto mayo - YES, YES, YES! that is the right choice. This is obviously a favorite of locals, as a few stopped by during our visit to order meals after their own date nights out and bar shifts. When Midnight hit the clock, all the patrons and the staff joined us in a round of cheerful HAPPY BIRTHDAYS to our friend. THAT explains the energy of this place.

Amanda W.

Yelp
Food was mediocre, not worth the wait at all. Order a pancake can it had so much butter on it i could feel my arteries clogging. If you are in to that, this is your place. There menu only has a few things to pick from. Just not my place to eat.
google avatar

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Street parking is the option. Not a huge breakfast menu but covered most things. I had the pancakes and house made sausage, my wife had a breakfast sandwich and our daughter had the Benedict. Everything was great. The Coffee is outstanding. Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. Be very careful when entering, the floor can be very slippery. Not a huge place but adequate.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Great breakfast sandwich. The sausage is freshly pressed on the grill, not a standard frozen sausage patty. The cook is fast but does a great job. Great to dine in or grab and go.
google avatar

Gabriel S.

Yelp
Loved my lunch here today. Naughter's is small but comfortable; John and staff are welcoming and accommodating. The menu is typical diner fare, but elevated. Better ingredients, better prepared, well presented. Portions are a healthy size and prices are reasonable given the quality of everything. If you don't order egg salad out because you think you make it better at home, I'm guessing the egg salad at Naughter's is better than yours. On the toasted, seeded rye, it's sublime.

T J.

Yelp
Ordered a tuna sandwich from here. The man put on gloves. Opened the fridge wearing the gloves. Took out a white bucket of tuna with the gloves on. Then Scooped out my tuna using his hand with the same glove and made my sandwich. Eh. I never went back.

Yelp
Wow!! We walked around looking for a place that would serve us breakfast at 2 pm. Man oh man, we SO LUCKED OUT!! Go here go here go here. Wait staff are SO NICE, but really, you want to hear about the food. I had delicious fluffy pancakes (they only serve real maple syrup ), and their house made sausage patty. Yum yum. It COULD NOT BE MORE PERFECT). My spouse, a much healthier eater than I am, had the vegetable hash with 2 poached eggs on top. Honestly, a work of art. So, we completely lucked out. Also, a shout out to what Troy has become. Honestly, I haven't been here for 20 years. It is so interesting, alive, a new go to place for us. Who knew? Keep it going, Troy!
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Food service and ambiance was awesome. Had Beans and Greens soup and an amazing Reuben!!!

Dorothy M.

Yelp
Small menu but we ordered 3 different breakfast items & enjoyed them all. I thought the home fries were excellent, one companion left over half of his, other than that we cleaned our plates. Quite crowded & the coffee mugs are tiny so the poor waitress had to make several trips to refill. Had they used larger cups we would only have had to have (maybe) one refill.

Yelp
This place has seriously good eats in a casual neighborhood atmosphere. My husband read about Naughter's somewhere and asked if we could go for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We sat at the counter and watched as Aaron ( a grill master) and John ( the owner) tended to our beautifully-plated meals with efficiency and flair. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with greens and home fries. It was perfect. I don't usually eat home fries, but these were exceptional. My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict with corned beef hash which he said was awesome. The coffee is very good, too. They even had oat milk for those of us who don't want dairy. Aaron made sure the coffee mugs didn't go empty. The vintage feel to this eatery is great. The brightly colored plates look like Fiesta-ware. The green wall paint, green vinyl covered booth and seats made for a fun decor. I also liked the old tunes on mixed tapes from a cassette player. Talk about throwback! The music apparently changes a lot, but Funk and early rap were playing during my breakfast. According to John, he opened more than four months ago on Valentine's Day. In that time, he's developed a neighborhood following. Some customers are greeted on a first name basis. The prices are good. The food is great. The place is clean, bright and charming. The black board listing today's specials--including schnitzel and pierogis-- had my enthusiastic hubby already making plans for his next meal at Naughter's.

Yelp
Naughters opened recently in Downtown Troy in the left half of the former Minar Indian Cuisine space on 5th Ave near Broadway. This cute little breakfast and lunch cafe/diner has that inviting atmosphere with a lunch counter with seating the grill/food prep done behind the counter and a few tables. Classic rock music is playing from a boombox on the counter next to a stack of cassette tapes. The food offers include breakfast sandwiches, egg dishes, hotcakes, French toast sticks, burgers, sandwiches, fries, French onion soup, coffee, and cold drinks in the cooler. I stopped by Naughters recently for takeout. The place was pretty busy and all the tables were occupied with only one open stool at the counter. I ordered the Veggie Hash ($5 plus tax) and French Toast Sticks ($6 plus tax). My food was boxed and bagged in under 10 minutes. The Veggie Hash was fairly simple, grilled mix of golden potatoes, squash, peppers, onions, carrot, and spinach, slightly oily, like enhanced home fries. The French toast sticks were thick, egg battered bread deep fried to firm outside and soft and moist inside, with crunchy cinnamon sugar coating and Maple syrup provided for dipping. Overall, this is a great little place to stop for brunch, but the seating is limited here.

Yelp
A dive with soul. Just my kinda place to LUV. Pretty darn good food. Casual, relaxed atmosphere. Yes I would move in here if I lived nearby. Roll in for breakfast and coffee. Hang out for lunch. (And go get some donuts after, around the corner at 518 Donuts). Cooks and servers that are real and nice and human. I appreciated the effort of the Philly pork sandwich, but it ain't gonna put DeNic's out of business and now I'm itching for a road trip to the source. Really good fries. A pleasure.

Yelp
The neighborhood place you gotta love! Go once and I promise you will be back. Go twice and they will remember your name and how you like it. Stay up late and you may find it to be your best friend Just go.....

Yelp
Cute college town dinner, yummy homefries and seasonal pumpkin entrees. Great service cute venue.

Yelp
Gluten free sausage breakfast sandwich with a side hash brown. The gluten free biscuit was unreal. Service was fantastic. And just a fun atmosphere. Also great prices. 10/10 would recommend (especially for gluten free people!!).

Julianna C.

Yelp
enough can't be said about this place. it really encapsulates what Troy used to be. Any time i'm having a bad day i'll find myself here. the employees and owners are all really down to earth, warm and welcoming. And the food, no matter what you get is so good. Diner food but make it ten times better. This place needs to be on Troy's top ten like yesterday. I really hope this place stays around for a while. It's not easy opening up a place especially so young so i commend these guys. Much love and support to you all in the coming years.

Yelp
French omelet will make me keep coming back and still have to try the rest of the menu. Nice spot to grab a bite when in Troy and great service.

Yelp
My colleague and discovered Naughter's while working in the Albany/Troy area. What a wonderful quirky little place. We loved it! The service was friendly and the food was delish!

Yelp
Sought out this gem based on reviews and it did not disappoint. They take regular items and make them exceptional with seasoning and cooking skill. Add the fact that the fries are homemade cut potatoes, the sauerkraut is home made, etc. Everything here is made with love and knowledge of preparation. The humble setting adds to its charm. They have plenty of staff who are supremely attentive. Can't wait to go back! Amateur food critic :)

Yelp
Cute vibrant little diner with 50s vibe, great place for small party lunch/brunch. Not very accessible so if you have a bad knee, want to come with a larger party, or want to come with kids (babies are ok), this might not be a place for you. I would still come for a casual date though.

Samuel P.

Yelp
The food is top notch innovative diner style. The ambiance is cool yet casual and you can't get better service in whole Capita Region. Try the the Industry Egg Plant - the best sandwich in the state

Cassandra M.

Yelp
besides the place, not having a sign out front to let you know that you're there it was perfect. Good service good food right away!

Dana R.

Yelp
Excellent food. Small menu but everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. Hand cut fries were beyond great. Super friendly and fast.

Yelp
Staff is very attentive and kind, the food is always incredible and the selection is large as well. The interior itself is also very unique and adds to the dining experience.

Yelp
Came with a group around brunch time. Place was busy but we were lucky enough to get seats at the counter for four. I got eggs scrambled with Swiss, hash browns and rye bread with a sausage on the side. Eggs were good, hash was greasy and hearty and the toast was toast (sausage was over cooked) My gf got the veggie hash which she found slightly underwhelming, but the sunny side up eggs were cooked perfectly. One of the people we were with got the eggplant sandwich, stacked high with crispy fried eggplant and packing a pesto mayo punch, it will surely be my choice if I'm back. Above average diner with some cool original plates. Worth a shot if your in the area.

Yelp
Great spot with awesome service and a cozy atmosphere. Some of the best food you will have in Troy!

Yelp
My favorite diner in Troy (: the veggie hash and pancakes are 10/10. Also the old school ambiance makes this place the gem that it is.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwich I've ever eaten! Coffeee was fresh! Very Comforting! Rishka

Yelp
Adorable place with fantastic, quick service. We stopped in on our way downstate and I'm glad we did. I ordered the egg sandwich which was awesome. The toast that came with my girls meal was SOURDOUGH and delicious. I also like having the hot sauce right there, I always have to ask for hot sauce anywhere I go. Definitely worth a stop in
