Naugles Tacos & Burgers

Our family gathered at Naugles Tacos & Burgers in Fountain Valley for a Celebration of Life lunch honoring my dad, Jim Naugle, following his interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park. As far as I know, we are not related to Dick Naugle’s family, and this was not my father’s restaurant. We chose Naugles Tacos & Burgers because it felt right. My family lived in California during the height of Naugles’ success in the 1980s, and it was part of the backdrop of our lives. (If you haven’t seen the hilarious TV commercials they aired featuring Roger Carmel and Avery Schreiber, they are available on YouTube.) From the earliest planning through the day itself, the staff treated our family with genuine kindness and care. On a day filled with emotion, that kind of professionalism and humanity matters more than you can imagine. The team made sure our family had the space and time we needed. We never felt rushed or out of place. Instead, we felt welcomed and supported, which made an enormous difference. The burritos and tacos were delicious and made fresh to order. The staff also went out of their way to brew extra pots of coffee for my relatives. This small gesture, after an emotional morning at the cemetery, meant a great deal. Sharing a meal after saying goodbye is a quiet but important part of remembrance. The food was exactly what my dad would have enjoyed, especially with extra hot sauce. My family and I will always be grateful for the warmth, respect, and compassion extended to us as we honored Jim. Thank you to Christian Ziebarth, Frank Ferrini, and the entire Naugles team.

Finally got to stop in here. Used to go to a Naugles in Riversode back in the day. The food here is just like it was back in the day. Had the Naugleburger combo and added on a hard taco too. All the food was on point! Even the OG salsa was just like I remembered! Thank you for this trip down memory lane, wishing success in future expansion!

Whenever I am visiting Orange County this is one of my favorite places to eat. I especially enjoy the taco salad cup. I order it with the tortilla chips, which are thick and tasty. The Ortega burger is an interesting change of pace from your standard cheeseburger as well. The restaurant itself is humbly furnished but clean, and the staff are always friendly.

I love that they brought back a childhood favorite. Not only that, but they NAILED the sauce. Exactly like I remember it

Nostalgic AND tasty! Great service. Made to order. Good burgers, big burritos and giant tacos. Breakfast all day. Don't forget the cheese burrito with red or green sauce. A must have. I wish this place could expand and make it work. I try to get in here at time I'm in the area. Sometimes I'll even go out of the way to make it.

Was a cool blast from the past! Nostalgic but better than I remember because even though they had the favorite recipes, they enhanced them and had some tasty homemade taco sauce. Phenomenal service. Incredibly welcoming and friendly. This would be a place to invest your lunchtime and your money! I think they are looking to expand...😏👍

There’s a reason why this is NOT a fast food restaurant and no drive-thru. You get solid 3.5 Star, made-to-order food like the freshly fried hard shell corn tortilla for their Original Taco. Their salsa is refrigerated because it’s fresh and not in a packet. I personally like their salsa verde. My go-to’s are the Original Taco (good amount of ingredients) and the Bun Taco. My friend says the Chicken Combo Burrito is good. And one time, when is was “off”, they were re-made it with a smile…good customer service. Last note, the soda station is refillable! Logistics-wise, they’re in an unassuming, industrial strip mall with plenty of lot parking as well as street parking on Mt Langley.

What a wonderful welcome by Stacy by the hostess! Over 30 years ago, there used to be a Naugles in Lake Forest right off El Toro Rd. So nice to take my family members here because their macho taco, and green bean burrito and fries were "on fire"! And happily want to mention that they still are. Everybody past and present loves their food. It is so much nicer getting out of our area. We eating at the same old places, tacos, this is the place to be!

I grew up loving the original Naugles as a child and wanted to see how the reopened restaurant was doing under the new ownership. In short: It Is Disgusting. The Fountain Valley Sanitation Plant directly across the street smelled better than the food and this restaurant's hallway that houses their restrooms and leads to the kitchen. The food was very greasy and overpriced for what you get. It was nowhere near Naugles we all grew up with. If I had to compare this newer version of Naugles I'd say it most resembles Mexican fast food from the Fair. The ceiling is no laughing matter. When we left this restaurant we saw a previous poor review and you'd think they clean the restaurant. Nope. While doing some research we found out the owner Frank really spends more time fighting customers on their complaints instead of fixing these problems. It really is a shame. When you see the poor reviews and the company's careless denials of photographs, complaints, and what have you, any respectable restaurant would acknowledge the issues and fix them. Disgusting, Unclean, and Poorly Maintained.

Has this location ever fixed the broken stoves in the kitchen and did they finally buy real pots to cook the meat in instead of using a hotel pan to cook the food. The manger's know s about allot of the issues but rescues to fix the problems.

What kind of restaurant closes at 7 o'clock unbelievable. The food here is mediocre at best so greasy and nothing like I remember it from the 80s. I'm guessing it'll probably be shut down soon.

Came for the first time today and it is a great hidden place. Love it. Can't wait to come back. The workers are all very helpful and friendly and the environment was welcoming and I love it there. The food is great and it is very clean.

This review is for the food truck since they don't have a Yelp page. I visited them in Santa Ana at Ace Hardware within a stones throw from the old Naugles location. I ordered the combo burrito, bean and cheese burrito, and a taco. The food was really good. I especially liked the taco. The burrito size has always been larger than Del Taco which was good for late night munchies. Hopefully Naugles can open more locations with late hours like the old days. I didn't get pictures of the food since I was eating in my car.

Ceiling panels are falling, stained, or missing. Kitchen is filthy and you can see it from the register. We heard one of the co-owners, Frank, call Christian (the owner) a "retard". Frank also uses excessive profanity. Horrible. This is their final location after this time after closing their three other locations.

Absolutely ridiculous as always bun tacos so tasty everything so fresh the bun the produce everything the cheese I ordered something new. I'll post the pictures later. I ordered a lettuce cheese and tomato burrito with white sauce a lactose veggie #PhenomenalFoodAlwaysSuperFastService.

Amazing service, food, and atmosphere! We had the OG Tacos, Bun Taco, Burrito (ground beef), and a Hamburger with fries. I used the red sauce on my tacos which I believe is a Chipotle type. We all scarfed it down with ease and happily. The owner came out and chatted with us and told us about their plans to get a food truck on the way soon. If only we lived here again... Neat find was the WA plate with Naugles on it...being from WA and just landed after a bumpy flight...God is great! Come on down and get some...rest assured you won't be disappointed.

Finally!!!! I was in SoCal 10 years ago the week that Naugles opened in Fountain Valley but was unable to go there at the time. So I made a point to trek over there on this trip. It's been over 40 years since I had a Naugles bean and cheese burrito and I always remembered how good they were. If you're looking for a typical fast food restaurant you'll drive right by it. Situated in a business park it looks more like a corporate office than eatery. No drive thru but there is seating inside. Kudos to the folks that resurrected the brand but sadly my burrito was not up to my expectations. Tortilla properly grilled - check. Portion size generous - check. The problem was instead of the abundant melty cheese inside there was a sprinkling of not melted cheese amongst lukewarm beans. Certainly not worth the hour each way journey. Since the people working there likely weren't even born yet when Naugles was first around they don't have something to reference. It was not bad at all - service was quick and friendly - just not what I was expecting. You don't know until you try and I tried and it's a one & done. Hi

This place has a bit of nostalgia wrapped around it from my childhood. I remember getting bean and cheese burritos from here with my mom. So naturally that's what I had to get this time I went too! I got a bean and cheese burrito, a bun taco, a chicken soft taco and a fry with my partner. For the most part, it was a pretty comforting meal. I do wish the bean and cheese burrito came out hotter; the beans did not match the temperature of the rest of the burrito. Also I didn't have any of the chicken soft taco, but my partner said the chicken wasn't her favorite. The bun taco was pretty yummy and I would definitely order that again. The service was pretty fast and I appreciate that they offer you whatever sauce you would like as they deliver your meal to your table. The interior was retro themed which was pretty neat but I do think the seating area could have been a bit cleaner.

Finally stopped by today since I was in the area and wow. This is exactly what I wanted Del taco on steroids. No feeling sick after, everything tasted like it was made with quality ingredients. I ordered the classic taco, cheese burrito, and beef and cheese burrito. They were all amazing. I can not wait to come back.

Got the Naugleburger! It was delicious and a great portion. Hefty and well-cooked! Plenty of space to sit down and looks like it's easy to find parking as well!

Have heard about naugles for a while and finally got to try it. First impression was okay. Naugles is tucked away in a business complex, with a banner instead of a real sign. Parking was ample though, so I appreciated it. When I walked in, the person at the counter was extremely friendly and eager to help. The decor was very retro/Southern California. It was a cool vibe, but I wish the restaurant was more kempt. Looked like the booths were peeling and the wood wasn't maintained. As for the food, it was very okay. I think I prefer del taco. We got the bun taco, a soft chicken taco, a bean and cheese burrito, and fries. Everything was decent, I appreciated how much cheese they put on their food. That being said, the quality was okay. Not awful for the price, but wish the food was warmer. Nothing was wrong, per se, but didn't have any wow factor. Glad I got the opportunity to try naugles, but think I'll just go to del taco

I remember coming here years ago. I was happy to find it. They exceeded my high expectations. I had the Bun Burger. It was tasty. Best of all they are not stingy on the cheese. I typically order with extra cheese. I don't have to here. The service is great also

I've been coming to the test kitchen location for several years and have had relatively good experiences and food. Naugles is a Mexican fast food brand that got revived years ago after closing down back in the late 1990s. They serve a unique menu of Mexican and American food ranging from tacos and burritos to burgers and chili cheese fries and cheese burrito. There has always been good service at this location but I feel it's becoming dated and could use some touchups and maintenance. They have also recently run out of certain food items on certain times that I've stopped by which is unfortunate but it isn't a common occurrence. The burritos here are good with plenty of filling and variety of options including breakfast and I enjoy getting their chili cheese fries from time to time. Their tacos are similar to Del Taco or Taco Bell but they also have street tacos which are surprisingly decent. An okay spot to check out for Mexican/American food.

Order the beef combo burrito and a nauglesburgers. Beef Combo Burrito: This was really good. A good composition of seasoned ground beef, cheese, refried beans and their sauce that blended very well. I wish I had asked for extra sauce but I was hungry so I just ate the whole thing. Nauglesburger: I got the nauglesburger with bacon, no sauce nor onions. Burger came out fresh and hot. Even though I order the burger with no sauce, the meat was juicy and not dry. Would come back. Will definitely try different items.

It made my day to see Naugles on the DoorDash app. I didn't even know they were back in business. Everything tasted almost exactly the same. It was wonderful.

Loved this little hidden gem. From the workers, to the ambiance and retro feeling to the ample menu, this place is a hit. We tried a bit of everything and flavor town it was! Generous portions were so filling but left us wanting more. We will definitely be back again. This place is a definite try... if u like Del Taco, this place is an upgraded version with a retro feel.... u won't regret this spot. Ask for the salsas, so flavorful!!

Remember how long ago in Southern California Taco Bell used to not suck... but now it does? Remember how Naugles was totally preferable to Del Taco, but then Del Taco bought them out and got really terrible? Well, not sure who brought it back, but this is the old timey Naugles you remember. It is very good. It is not fine dining, but it's that very good taste you remember. Yep, it's fast food, but it doesn't feel like SUPER processed fast food in the way that Taco Bell and Del Taco have gone to make things more profitable. Or at the very least, it's what it always was. And thanks so much for being THE ONLY restaurant I know of that doesn't skimp on the cheese!!

The Naugleburger is terrific (not the same as the 70s Naugleburger, but still great) and the fries are very good. They are perennially short staffed, so have LOTS of time if you go.

The food is good, like you remember, Naugles! Not sure how they worked that out. Went on a Friday and am only wondering who is that girl they have out front? She's looks like she's about 12, but is SO genuinely friendly, courteous and professional. Thanks for that!! Aside from her making our quick lunch a good experience, it gives me hope for these *@^&* kids we hear so much about! :-) Thank you!

Naugles Restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience! The asada tacos were incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. The ground beef burrito with cheese and red sauce was a standout--bursting with flavor and reminiscent of the classic, old-school burritos that are just the right size. They don't skimp on the meat, making every bite satisfying and flavorful. For an extra touch of perfection, I highly recommend trying the salsa verde on the side--it enhances every dish beautifully. This place is a true gem for anyone craving authentic, flavorful food! Cynthia was a great host and helpful with the menu! The inside of Nsugles is standard. However, it's the food that you definitely want to come for!!!

Never had Naugles before but have heard of it. Was recently around the area so decided to give it a try. I had dine in. The staff member that I dealt with was friendly and the food was much better than Del Taco (if you like the style). After I paid, I discovered that they charged me for some bogus fees, such as delivery fee and credit card fee. Wish these charges were disclosed upfront before I paid.

I ordered a taco and a bean and cheese burrito. The taco was really crispy and good, but the beam and cheese burrito was lacking in cheese and sauce. The burrito was huge, but it was all beans. It was like they popped open a can of refried beans and just dumped it on the tortilla. The hot sauces offered wasn't as flavorful as I was hoping to make the burrito better. I will try again, but will avoid the bean and cheese burrito.

So my daughter and tried the original tacos and the chili cheese fries. 5 stars for both of them and will definitely be back for more. The green sauce is pretty good. Customer service is awesome also.

Finally got a chance to go check out a Naugles. Decided on the test kitchen location located in Fountain Valley. Arrived around 3pm to beat the evening rush. Just a few customers there at that moment. Was immediately greeted by the gentleman taking orders, who I neglected to get his name. Had a list of items that I wanted to try out and I proceeded to order: Naugle Burger Large Crinkle Cut Fries Steak Club Burrito Hombre Nachos Bun Taco Bean & Cheese burrito Drink Here's my honest straight forward review and I've broken it down by sections. EXPERIENCE: Customer Service - EXCELLENT! I feel that the excellent service I received, is due to the gentleman behind the counter. We chatted for a bit and he is the whole reason why my initial 4 star rating soared to a 5 star. I do not expect this type of excellent customer service which you can tell, comes naturally from this man at their other locations, but I will go to the others and post additional reviews. I am of the opinion that most of the time, fast food establishments are manned my teens who could care less if your food is edible or people that although they're committed to working, they're not going to put 100% into their job, so customer service and quality are affected as a direct result. Food: Naugle Burger and crinkle cut fries were as I remember them. The gentleman that was cooking in the back did an excellent job. I should of taken pics of the food but I just dug in. Aesthetically pleasing all the way on everything tho! Hombre Nachos- delicious, not mushy or soggy as one previous reviewer had stated. I had more than enough crunch throughout my chow down session. The chips are so tasty! Steak Club Burrito- I found it dry, I did finish it. It was ok, but no yummmmmm moment. I just think the meat was sitting there for a bit. Will give this one another chance and will let them know before I order what I experienced last time. Bun Taco- something with the meat, was not like I remembered. Back then it was called the Taco Burger. Anyways, it was ok, but not what remembered. Bean and Cheese burrito- Just ok, not something I'd order again. I'm sure a lot of people would find the bean and cheese burrito tasty. Maybe the beans need a little work for the burritos. I was ok with the same beans on the nachos. Kinda reminded me of the old school Frito bean dip. Again, I'm sure other people would enjoy it. Nostalgia: Old great memories- As a teen growing up in Riverside, Naugles was our go to after we cruised around Magnolia Ave. We'd go through the drive thru and go across the street to eat our food and hang out at the GEMCO parking lot, with always the end goal of meeting and picking up girls. We had to work for it back then. No apps or social media in those times. Bottom line, the owners have worked really hard to resurrect Naugles. For a lot of us, Generation X, we appreciate their efforts and what they've accomplished. They have my support and can count on me as a customer!

The food was just ok. Had the bean and cheese cup and a combo burrito. It wasn't as good as I remembered it to be

Wonky hours and a cranky cashier made the last visit to the Fountain Valley Naugles more challenging than it should have been. It was more complicated to order inside than it was to do the drive-thru which I did my first time here. It took about five minutes to get my order taken when I went inside. Cashier must have been on a break because the cook eventually took my order. He was a champ. After I put in my order the cashier came into the picture to help the next customer. The customer asked the cashier how she was and she said, "Horrible" and meant it. The customer was silenced at that point. Small dining area inside, a spacious patio area if you prefer to eat outside as I usually do. This time I ate in my car. It was cleaner than the tables, ha ha. Food- the best deal is the kids meal which was five bucks. My favorite item is the cheese burrito. So good. The combo burrito was tasty but was really salty. Crispy taco was great, too. I enjoyed my food at this Naugles and look forward to trying the Stanton location someday. For the record, the rebooted Naugles really is its own beast. It really didn't taste the same as my memories. That's OK.

Wasn't in the USA back in the 70th to compare, but this place has a great selection of Mexican food. I had a Groupon, which helped me discover this place, but prices are so affordable anyway. I wasn't a fan of Chili cheese fries until one I read a Yelper review who said that "it was the best". And he was absolutely correct, it was delicious. And their customer service is so great, I'll definitely go back.

No name tags, no ice for soft drinks and the employees don't know the sizes of drinks served. Can a place be any more pathetic? Food is good but the service absolutely sucks.

Just came from that place and the food was absolutely out of the toilet. Worst burgers I've ever had in my life. I wouldn't give it to my dog. The only thing that was halfway salvageable or the french fries and that was probably brought in from some other store. The man behind the counter, I think it was a man it could've been a man could've been a woman I don't know lousy service, lousy attitude I would never recommend this to my worst enemy. And to pay 40 bucks for three burgers, and three fries and two sodas was an absolute rip off. It was crap Ola. They should've been on a debate so people can see more crap, Ola. I hope everyone reads this Naugles to be a great place

Ordered the original tacos. They are packed to the brim and are really tasty. Definitely will be back for more!

I've never been to Naugles, not this location or the original ones, so I can't speak to the nostalgia angle. It's fast food so keep your expectations in check. We tried the cheese burrito, a chicken taco (hard shell), a taco salad cup. Everything tasted fresh and nothing was greasy so that was good. The cheese burrito was interesting--it's on the smallish side and there's cheese and some kind of sauce inside. It was really more tortilla than filling but it was fine. The chicken taco was really good. I guess I expected minced or ground chicken but these were real, grilled chicken pieces and the shell was fresh. The taco salad cup was fine but was mostly lettuce. The flavor was good. We took our food to go but the interior of the restaurant is nice and they've done a good job with the decor. The tables could have been a bit cleaner. The food is solid, fresh, inexpensive and not greasy. It ain't gourmet but it's not trying to be. I was very pleasantly surprised and I would return.

Our family loves Del Taco and grew up eating it, I bookmarked this place as a definite "must-try" after seeing it in some youtube videos and doing some follow up reading on the recent rebirth and the previous history on all Naugles eventually became Del Tacos. Super amazing that the new Naugles came from fans and is growing due to all the love from people who fondly remembered the brand and the unique food! Really cool to see menu items recreated based on memory and taste-tested with fans! Definitely support this local place during Covid, they are doing something special. Note that the food is prepared fresh so it will take longer than Del Taco or other fast food but it's worth it. There is plenty of parking and there is enough space inside to socially distance. The Naugles Taco, not like any Del Taco taco, loved the shell which is lighter and fluffier and the meat was unique, hearty and lightly colored and not heavy feeling. We noticed the shell stayed nice and crispy on the short commute back to our in-laws house, Del Taco tacos would have been soggy near the bottom. If you order one thing, you got to try this. Chicken Burrito, a much much better version than the Del Taco one. It tasted fresher and more home made, really enjoyed this one and so did our older son. Bun Burger, its Taco ingredients in a burger. The burger buns were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. While we liked this we would order some more off the menu before trying this again. Fries, these del-taco/shake shack style fries are our favorite kind of fast food fries, loved these!

The food is delicious, all made fresh, and I experience a blast from the past every time. I remember going to Naugles when I was a teen. So glad they are back. Their classic hard taco is totally bomb. So flavorful, and the taco salad fantastic. It's just enough, light And refreshing, with that awesome taco meat. And it comes with a little bag of chips, which are perfectly cooked, so fresh and flavorful, with just the right amount of salt. It might sound corny to say. It puts a smile on my face, but it does.
