I have wanted to eat here for the past 5 years and I finally went with my friend. We were in the Hamptons for the day and were really excited to eat on the water here. Unfortunately the weather was overcast and foggy, not providing the same beautiful beach scenery that we craved. This was obviously not the restaurant's fault.
We called Navy Beach the morning of the day that we wanted to have dinner there. We were told that they do not take reservation the day of, but since we were a party of two, we would most likely be able to get a table. The person on the phone was very nice and even told us around the time to come where we would most likely get seated.
Upon driving up the restaurant, we were greeted my a friendly man who basically told us that we could go in for drinks, but he was told that we would not get a table. We decided to take the chance anyway. We had the car valet parked and then walked into the restaurant.
The two hostesses greeted us with a smile and were very nice. They asked us if we wanted a table inside or out. We said inside since the weather was so bad. The atmosphere was fun, I loved the decor, such as the framed bathing suits. The outside area looked like it would be ideal for a nice day.
All was going well until our server, Bryce came. She asked our order and was rushing us the entire time. Keep in mind that the place was not packed the entire time. To our surprise, our food came out in five minutes. Not complaining that it was so quick, just was very odd. It came out even before our drinks and added to the rushed feeling that we had. I ordered the salmon. It was very good, but oddly plated in a soupy broth, Asian style with nothing on the side. I do not think it was worth the $32 I paid, but it was good. My friend ordered salmon tar tar and fries. The salmon tar tar was delicious, but the fries were cold and hard.
Beverage menu had a lot of options which was a plus. My friend got a glass of wine that she enjoyed.
We were disappointed in the rude and rushed service that Bryce offered us. She never asked how our food was or if we needed anything. She never asked if we wanted anything else to drink, and she immediately took away our plates the second we swallowed our last bite. She delivered the check when my friend was half way done with her wine and tried to take away her fries that I am not sure how she ate, but was not yet finished with. When the check came, there was a $1 charge to an NSF donation. We were confused as the waitresses never explained that this charge would appear. When we asked, she said it was a foundation to save seals. We were ok with that charge, just not ok that were volunteered for it without being asked.
While my friend was finishing her wine, Bryce came by again and took our bill. We were not even finished with her tip. When we told her we were not yet done, she said, "Oh, well did you sign?" After that, I said "Ok, take it!" She then open it up in front of us when she took the bill. She didn't say have a good night or I hope you enjoyed your food. The service she provided was shocking to us. I have never in my life had such a rude waitress. This ruined our entire experience at Navy Beach and will leave a bad taste in my mouth for a while.
We went up to the hostess as the front and explained the horrible service that our waitress had given us. They were super apologetic and said that she would be spoken to.
I would come give this restaurant another chance maybe next summer. I don't think I want to go back this year and remember the horrible service that Bryce had given us. I would eat outside next time and maybe order the mussels. I would also hope for better service, especially for the price tag.
