You can go in a plane if you pre-arrange or just use the tower for like 6 soles to see a few of the lines. Not much to say, there are lines in the dessert. A good guide can help explain a bit more about them than doing this solo.

Wasn’t a fan of how long we had to wait to get on the plane but the actual flight was fantastic with the guide highlighting all of the major lines. Very worth it, all things considered. This would absolutely be a top tier experience if the airport management was improved.

The Nazca Lines in Peru are one of the world's greatest archaeological mysteries, discovered in the early 20th century. These gigantic geoglyphs, located on the Nazca Plateau, are believed to have been created by the Nazca culture between 500 BCE and 500 CE. The lines include straight lines, geometric shapes, and images of animals such as monkeys, birds, and whales. The Nazca Lines were first noticed by pilots flying over the area in the 1920s and 1930s. However, in-depth research began when German archaeologist Maria Reiche dedicated many years to studying and preserving these geoglyphs. Archaeologists have long agreed that the Nazca Lines were created by a pre-Columbian civilization, although their exact purpose remains debated. The biggest mystery revolves around the purpose and method of creating these lines, as they can only be clearly seen from above. Some theories suggest they are related to religious rituals or astronomy. Erich von Daniken, Swiss author of the ancient alien theory, believes that the Nazca Lines are UFO runways, Alien airports, Aliens landing on Earth created the lines. The giant drawings were intended as signals for Aliens to easily identify as they flying in the air.

It's a great archaeological sight. I recommend booking a tour with a local operator in Lima. We walked into a travel agents office and made reservations. Better value and you're helping a local business out.
