The Best NYC Coffee Shops With Wifi For Getting Work Done - New York - The Infatuation

"NBHD Brûlée is a great long-haul coffee shop in Harlem. There are tables and outlets inside, as well as a wraparound enclosed porch area when you need a change of scene. The sandwiches and snacks are better than they need to be for a workday breakfast or lunch break. Get the Cajun shrimp and grits and, when you’re ready to unwind and close the laptop, hit the wine section of the menu." - sonal shah, molly fitzpatrick, will hartman, neha talreja, bryan kim, willa moore

NBHD Brûlée - Review - Harlem - New York - The Infatuation

"NBHD Brûlée in Central Harlem works for a long-haul work date. The coffee shop has tables and outlets inside, as well as a wraparound enclosed porch area with enough mismatched furniture to be mistaken for a stooping opportunity. And the tourism posters from Jamaica are a pleasant reminder of why you’re lugging your laptop around in the first place. When you get hungry, try something from the full menu for your breakfast or lunch break. (We like the Cajun shrimp and grits). And when it's time to unwind, there's always wine." - Sonal Shah

21 Great Black-Owned Coffee Shops In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"A community space for Striver's Row, this Harlem cafe has a vintage feel, and it's a place where you can grab a quick breakfast or hang out and do some work while you eat a grilled cheese or a shrimp po' boy. Melba Wilson (of Melba's) is a fan." - Team Infatuation

The vibe here is perfect. The drinks are just OK though. I ordered a decaf Americano and it was good. Their brand are roasted by Italian company Illy. I lm a bit of a coffee snob so I prefer organic, single source, and you know all these high quality methods, but it isn't a bad cup. Their chai isn't good though...it's mainly sugar. And the price for alternative milks $1 uncharged is ridiculous. You could buy a whole carton for $4 and make more than 4 lattes with it. Staff is super friendly, kind, and familial though. And the aesthetic - sort of Cajun, French style- is perfect. Wifi and good work. But they do have music so not the quietest. Outdoor (with cover from rain and whatnot) and indoor seating available. Overall, this place is better for vibes than the food in my opinion - come to chat with friend, for a date, or to work a bit.

Google
I started coming here because my favorite dance studio is next door, and it's become my favorite coffeeshop uptown. It feels more like a community than a coffeehouse, with a friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere, a lot of space to sit down, and clean bathrooms too. Whether I'm there working on my laptop, just stopping in for one of their delicious lattes or an Egg, Cheese and Biscuit sandwich, it feels homey and inviting. The staff will remember who you are if you're a regular, and I find that really rare. I'm grateful a place like NBHD exists in a world of Starbucks.

Google
STOP going to big chain coffee spots and SUPPORT THIS LOCAL GEM, NBHD !!! This place is golden. Everything is great: the food, the staff, and the vibes. I am a neighborhood regular, and every time I visit, the staff is always so pleasant. Great music playlists, and it's not overwhelming or too loud for those working remotely. Bathrooms are clean as well as the seating area. Nice outdoor option when the weather is warmer but also cozy on the inside to work (with WIFI) or catch up with a couple of friends. NBHD feels like family.

Google
Beautiful place, but funny how some of their staff can’t get the simplest order correctly, today I Ordered medium hot coffee with half and half, no sugar, somehow they had to add caramel syrup that I didn’t even ask for, last time same lady got 2 cups when I asked for one, then got upset when I said I didn’t order it but it’s okay I didn’t mind paying for it. But really beautiful place, most of the staff always nice and get the order correctly.

Google
This is such a treasure I found near me I got the iced chai latte and it was amazing the BLT with beef bacon was really good. Me and my boyfriend came here for breakfast and left fulfilled! Definitely want to come back to try more menu items. The atmosphere is very nice and the seating outside is unique.

Google
Had lunch here 😋 with my colleagues and surprisingly it was really nice. Trendy friendly crowd and the host was very nice and accommodating. The food was really good we all tried different items on the menu to see how everything tasted. Kudos to the cooks and the food arrived quickly. Couldn't complain about anything really. Downside was limited menu options and cajun grits not for me 😆 let me choose my grits flavor regular and boring with butter and salt and pepper. Thanks Brulee team!!

Google
This place was a wonderful spot for coffee and lunch. The food comes with love and comfort 💕. Great staff, they are super helpful and friendly.

Google
I had a nice visit to NBHD Brulee. The atmosphere was cozy, and though the Wi-Fi wasn’t working, I used my hotspot. After a while, the manager (I assume) told me I could continue to sit at the counter but couldn’t work there, which was surprising given the limited seating. The rule felt unclear and a bit unwelcoming. I ended up moving to another coffee shop to continue working. Overall, NBHD was still a pleasant experience, and I really like their selection of teas. I'd definitely visit again.

Yelp
Stopped by this Black-owned coffee spot in Harlem on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, the energy was warm and welcoming--great customer service that felt genuine, not forced. You can tell the team really takes pride in what they do. I ordered the Cajun shrimp salad and a latte, and both were next level. The salad was super fresh, seasoned just right with a little kick, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly--tender with that bold Cajun flavor. The latte was smooth, creamy, and honestly one of the best I've had uptown. The space itself is adorable--cozy indoor seating with natural light pouring in, and a cute outdoor area that's perfect for people-watching or catching a breeze on a warm day. They had classic R&B playing while I was there--think Jill Scott, D'Angelo, and Sade--which made the whole experience feel soulful and relaxed. If you're in Harlem and looking for a place to chill, grab a bite, and support Black-owned excellence, this is it. Definitely adding it to my regular rotation.p

Yelp
Great local cafe. Ample seating and two bathrooms. They have a full food menu, pastries and drinks. I had the eggplant po boy and it was so good! I had a chai latte as well. I stayed and ate in the cafe and it was nice and not overly loud. Some people had laptops and I'm not sure if there's a laptop time limit here. I also saw board games for people to play. There's a covered outdoor seating area with a couch etc. Staff was friendly and prices were average for an NYC cafe, Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Good cafe to meet up with a friend! Matcha was good but nothing special. Food looked solid (did get to try) but looking at people's plates it was good.

Yelp
We cherish our memories of NBHD! The employees exceeded typical service standards. You can notice they cook with peak-season components. The restaurant has a warm, cute design. The quality here is remarkable.

Yelp
When in Harlem I really do love this cafe. Whether to read or do work on your labtop and or even catch up with a friend. This spot is warm and cozy and great during peak hours for sunlight. Staff is amazing service is great! Highly recommend and that truffle egg sandwich hits every time

Yelp
Always a great experience here! I consider it the neighborhood café, featuring chill vibes, delicious food, excellent coffee, and friendly, efficient service. If you're looking for a spot in Harlem to relax, get some work done, and unwind, definitely check out NBHD.

Yelp
Love, Love, Love NBHD! Definitely one of the best coffee shops in Harlem. It defines what Harlem is all about, community. The vibe is ...the indoor/outdoor makes it the perfect place to work and/or collab. Oh, did I mention they have good food as well.? The place feels like your living room with a few strangers (soon to be friends) scattered about lol. Great service too!
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
Love the vibe and the pastries here. The cozy couches and warm decorations make this the perfect spot to catch up with a friend or read a book. The black coffee is just so-so, but their pastries are all great!
google avatar

Shannon E.

Yelp
Amazing as always and the food is exceptional! The ladies that work behind the counter are always so sweet and friendly. Ambiance is relaxed, quiet, and a perfect place to do some work. I always look forward to coming in to NBHD

Yelp
One of Harlem's finest establishments has reopened!!! Minor setback but a major comeback for my local favorite as they were shut down for a while following a fire last year...the vibes and atmosphere here has brought back life to the neighborhood and it was much needed! Shrimp Po Boy is still the dish to beat along with the staff being as welcoming & amazing as ever, cheers to the bounce back and many more memories that everyone here makes worth while!!

Yelp
This place is incredible! They've got a nice lease or ownership on the place because it is prime! They have plenty of outdoor seating as well as indoor. They have an assortment of cozy chairs inside to enjoy your drink of choice. The chalked menu fits the vibe extremely well. I ordered a medium latte at around 9am. It was pretty busy starting at 9:30am. Prices are going up yall so come prepared to spend it on some coffee. The espresso was nicely pulled. The steamed milk wasn't so hot to have to let it cook down. Please tip your staff at a coffee place! Even if just .50¢. My friend ordered a SEC biscuit and loved it. Raved about the fresh buttered biscuit the most. The egg and cheese looked fresh too. I loved the atmosphere. Loving staff willing to help. They looked happy to serve and to be there. I can't wait to return. Good vibes all around.

Yelp
This cafe is super dope . Always friendly upon arrival . Food is good & iced coffee is cool , had to add my own spin to the iced coffee as my order was not done correct but I'll give them a pass because my orders are always on point . My go to cafe . Prices are reasonable . My favorite thus far is the bacon & egg on a biscuit . Sooo freaking good . I can't wait to try their fresh lemonade & other items

Yelp
I've walked past this place a million times, finally stopped in to get a coffee and breakfast sandwich. First time got the link sausage egg sandwich w/Pumpkin latte. Latte was on point and the sandwich was good too. Second time, did another pumpkin latte and the bacon biscuit sandwich. Coffee on point again, however the sandwich was ice cold by the time I got home, which is a block (avenue/avenue) away. The egg seemed like it must have been cooked earlier and not warmed up enough. I'll be back for the coffee and debate on another sandwich if taking it to go.

Vanessa H.

Yelp
I really enjoy the food, service, and overall atmosphere of this spot. They play great jams all day long, the coffee and tea is delicious, and the food is really good too. I wouldn't necessarily work from home on a busy day here because the music can be a little loud, but a slow wfh day? Yeah absolutely.
google avatar

Rianna R.

Yelp
We recently moved to the area and have been trying out all the coffee shops around -- this is definitely my favorite so far! Today we just grabbed it to go, but definitely making a plan to come back again later this week and stay for a bit. Inside is really cozy, with plenty of seating, and I'd like to try some of the food menu.

Yelp
My friend who lives in Harlem brought me to this place for breakfast. The ambiance was warm and friendly, and I think it's black-owned! The food came out quickly and was very good. Next time I'm in NYC, I will definitely be back .
google avatar

Olie G.

Yelp
This place is awesome, really great coffee and environment was cool. A nice place to do work and they were playing all my jams! I will be back! Thanks for being a great place for the community it's something I really appreciate!

Daria H.

Yelp
Great food, kind staff, and good music! Perfect place to get work done or meet a friend for coffee!

Yelp
The location is accessible and very useful for this part of the Frederick Douglass strip. There are not many sit down cafe options in this general area. The decor is very nice and reflective of the community which is a sure fire way to stay relevant in Harlem. The drinks are expertly crafted and I have to admit are worth the higher prices for the area. No question about it. Service is adequate, although I'd love for the staff to be a little more interactive. However, I understand that during this pandemic, life is odd for all of us. NBHD--- what does that stand for anyhow?? My main gripe is with the food. While it is edible, it always falls short of the very vibrant descriptions. While the shrimp po'boy was moist and looked beautifully-- it lacked flavor. The egg sandwich, cooked to request, could have used some salt and pepper at least. The avocado toast left me feeling like I should stick to the drinks or lower my taste buds. I am certainly going back to NBHD since it is so conveniently close to me but I would stick to the drinks or light fare. I am happy to have this place in the area and I do hope they stay open after the pandemic. Most of all, I hope the kitchen gets a bit more inspired. Check it out!

Yelp
Slipped in after church and grabbed a table outside. I had Tuna salad - watch out for purple onions ! My belly doesn't like them. Cajun grits w/ shrimp for the table. Turkey bacon , egg and cheese biscuits for my crew. Not a big coffee drinker so I was delighted they had a decaf Iced latte to which I added some yummy hazelnut.
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
This place is really cool love the set up staff is Friendly. It's another business in a growing neighborhood and the inside has awesome music beautiful seating areas and very connected The origin of coffee. I love Illy coffee usually just on its own not with milk or as a latte or anything because their coffee is super smooth however it's light it's not too heavy and that's exactly what they serve is Illy coffee. Unfortunately before even taking a sip I could already smell how burned it was. Been smelled over roasted and when I even took a sip you could tell the bitterness and how over Cooked it was. This wouldn't detour me from going back I probably would pop in if I'm again in that area but definitley wouldn't go out of my way to go to the coffee shop just for a cup of coffee
google avatar

Sydney C.

Yelp
Exactly what a Black owned coffee shop should be. Don't come in a rush. That's not this place. Come got the vibes and to get work done and maybe have a first date.
google avatar

Truman F.

Yelp
This is a great working spot. Good vibes and low key energy. Lots of spaces to sit and hang out. Tried the Cajun grits which were tasty, the smoked salmon bagel was also very good. Staff was helpful and kind, and the food came quickly. Ends up being a little pricey but what can you expect it's Manhattan. They have a good sized covered outdoor area as well. Would recommend!
google avatar

Liz K.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! NBHD has cozy & classy vibes, plenty of seating, and more of a food menu than other cafes in the area. The staff and patrons are all friendly and part of the fabric of the community. The decor is chic and warm. Prices are standard for Manhattan - $2.25 for a small drip coffee, $5 for a cup of soup, $8-12 for lunch dishes, etc. Items are served to go by default but there are mugs for hot beverages to stay. A couple items for the wishlist: - have glasses for iced drinks and bowls for the soups (instead of disposables), - offer a nondairy milk alongside the milk and half n half - consider serving locally-roasted coffee instead of Illy, which is notoriously opaque about sustainability and labor standards. Manhattanville and Proof both serve ethically-sourced organic beans and so should NBHD. - have a loyalty program/punchcard -- because this is my new spot!
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
I ordered NBHD for delivery and was pleasantly surprised to have it arrive in 20 minutes flat still hot I ordered a tropical smoothie $6.00 w/pineapple and mango As well as a sausage egg n cheese biscuit $4.50 - choices or chicken or beef biscuit) I chose chicken, was tasty There was an option to add a side salad of mixed greens for $3 and I highly recommend doing so The mixed greens came w onions tomato red wine vinaigrette craisins and walnuts - makes for a delicious meal at $7.50 I also ordered a slice of carrot cake for later- will have to report back on that

Yelp
My favorite part of this business was the folks at the counter: friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Frankly, the food could have not so great and I still would have enjoyed it because of the friendly welcome I received when I went. I'm knit picking because I like my croissants made a particular way, flaky and not so starchy. Theirs was a miss for me. I enjoyed their drip and the space is just so pleasant to be in. I would go back any time.
google avatar

Gabriel D.

Yelp
Great spot. Super friendly employees, tasty quality food, nice atmosphere & fair prices. I'll be back:)
google avatar

Don C.

Yelp
Coffee excellent, space clean and hangouraboe with a big wood table to work on, big easy chairs, outdoor patio and bumping music. Egg on on a roll was served on a buttery roll and only $4. Friendly staff and Owner. If You're in the area - take a stroll down strivers row on 138th.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
This place is awesome to go hang out and enjoy that homey, quirky coffee shop vibe you don't get in more corporate places. Their food is also absolutely amazing. The fresh baked biscuits are a must try.
google avatar

Crystal H.

Yelp
Comfortable neighborhood spot for coffee and a sandwich ... or pastry! Friendly and attentive service. Masks required inside. No indoor dining. Patio was lovely with fresh foliage. Food is fresh and flavorful. This was a bit more pricey than I anticipated, however since everything tasted great, it was worth every penny. We enjoyed dirty chai lattes with our BLT and bacon, egg & cheese biscuit. The chocolate croissant was fresh and flaky. We will definitely return and want to say KUDOS to your superb staff!
google avatar

Kortnee L.

Yelp
Thankful for @nbhd_brulee!! This place is the PERFECT staple to the neighborhood. Great rotating smoothies, functional and healthy menu that offers brekkie AND lunch, wine & beer options, and the sweetest most attentive baristas in the area. The owner is on site at least 3X a week which I think projects to how much love and effort was put into this place. WiFi offered, bumpin' 90's hip-hop/r&b/soul. Also peep the art installations that rotate as well. #kehindewiley

Yelp
I was influenced by @seeksatiation and @domnthecity to explore coffee shops that are in uptown. I'm so glad I came here Saturday afternoon. While I didn't dine in, there was plenty of seating around either small tables or long bench style to settle in for the afternoon. There are also cozy outdoor (enclosed) seating area as well. The menu has a wide variety of teas and coffees as well as brunch options to choose from. Service was pretty quick. I had a medium iced latte and fresh almond croissant. The latte was was the perfect amount of espresso and milk. Often places leave you with more milk or way too much ice so the drink is watered down. The almond croissant was sweet and fluffy, and a great size. While waiting for my iced latte I spied a basket of fresh plain croissants I suspect they were for the many sandwich options of the menu. I can't wait to come back and try one.
google avatar

Krystal U.

Yelp
Had the best smoke salmon sandwich, coffee & chocolate chip banana bread- YES I was full the entire day! So happy I found this shop.
google avatar

Tangerine L.

Yelp
They forgot items I paid for and sent me this disgusting piece of idk what. I ordered a pastrami and this is burnt to me. They also added cheese when I specifically asked for no cheese as I'm allergic. I'm very depressed and angry at myself for not being able to get up and cook a meal. This just made things worse for me. Unacceptable.
google avatar

Dominek T.

Yelp
Great new coffeeshop in the neighborhood. I feel like this area of 7th and 8th Avenue have been missing this. It's cozy, the staff is pleasant, and the decor feels like Harlem and highlights the history of this historical neighborhood. As of right now the space does not have its own WiFi, but you can connect to the Link hub outside WHICH I am not crazy about. I don't really consider Link to be secure so if you have your own mobile hot spot I would recommend that instead. They do offer food as well which I cannot wait to check out. Update: THE SHRIMP PO' BOY IS THE BOMB!
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
Great Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, good coffee. A great place to just relax or catch up with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
Nobody messing with this spot. I love it here !!!! The art, the details and how well it blends in with the Harlem Community. Every restaurant and local spot should really think about the people it serves and the historical content upon which they are vesting their business in. NBHD did an amazing Job. It is a regular coffee shop with a twist. The gold ensembles, the Obamas painting. Let me talk about the service. The food is fresh and the service is just truly at the top of my most favorite experiences. There is a woman who works in this spot and she's just so so happy always and greets everyone. I so appreciate her. She must be protected at all Cost. My favorite is the chai latte and the blt combo. This is where it's at. I wish it turned into a bar at night ! I think they would have to kick me tf out.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast sandwiches. Community hotspot. Service can be a little slow, so give yourself plenty of time. It's part of the charm.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
I really liked the vibe. I went with a friend when it was still cold out. We sat in the outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, we didn't get much from the heater, but we probably chose the wrong table. I definitely want to go back.
google avatar

Eve W.

Yelp
Amazing local coffee. So happy I found this place a couple blocks from where I'm staying. Friendly service and one of the best oat milk iced lattes I've ever had.
google avatar

Shari H.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday to meet with a friend. I can tell that this is a neighborhood favorite based on how many ppl were coming in. The menu offers a lot of choices so there is something for everyone. The flavors were delish. I actually want the sausage biscuit now as I'm typing about it lol. They also offers outdoor seating. I really liked the black art on the walls and pictures of public figures. For my next visit I want to try the Chipotle chicken sandwich. Next time you're in harlem support this black owned business.
google avatar

Alexandra S.

Yelp
I LOVE the food from this place!!!! And there is nothing like it nearby! Great price for the egg and cheese on brioche roll as well! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Giselle G.

Yelp
I went this morning for breakfast and it was amazing. I had the brioche breakfast sandwich with Gouda and the cheese was melted perfectly. My sister and mom ordered the biscuit breakfast sandwich and it was very good. The only problem is the filling to bread ratio. The biscuit was so good and soft. I actually ordered the biscuit alone with jelly and it was amazing. I also ordered the mint lemonade which was the perfect balance of mint and lemon. Their customer service was great. It was busy but they definitely were very welcoming and helpful. I did not know what to order and they have a lot of options and informed me everything on their menu is available. They do not sell pork. I want to go back to try some other options such as the shrimp po boy. We also had the monkey bread muffin which was good but I would have wanted it a bit softer. Their decor great they have shelves with books which is from a library. Their bathrooms are very clean and organized. Their outdoor seating is beautiful and we ordered and sat outside. I definitely recommend this place which is a neighborhood gem. The owner was there taking orders which I love seeing. I think it important for the owner of the business to be available to customers which is why I love small businesses. He was very nice and courteous.
google avatar

Manami K.

Yelp
Love this place. Great vibe, coffee drinks, healthy & delicious & great quality food, and of course excellent service. Overall one of my favorite spots to go to.

tiana p.

Yelp
So I don't usually write reviews on places but I just had to today. Someone told me about this cafe & how it's black owned, I'm all for supporting black owned businesses so I decided to come by and check it out for my self. Upon walk in the place is cute from the outside & the cafe is beautiful with nice art on the walls. The baristas are welcoming & nice. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs which came out extremely oily, I ordered a side of tater tots , turkey bacon & side avocado. Usually when a place advertises side avocado I am expecting sliced avocado on the side. What came out was a small cup of guac with seasoning ... if you are going to have a menu that advertises side avocado people are expecting actual side avocado not a small cup of guac with seasoning I didn't ask for... I'm also a barista the coffee is good but the food not so much.
google avatar

Bailey M.

Yelp
NBHD is a Harlem get and I'm not sure how I was existing without it. I start my day with the Owners and an amazing menu. I would recommend the spinach quiche, turkey sausage sandwich, BLT, & the shrimp po boy. The pastries are endless so honestly I can't choose. You must check this place out if you come to Harlem. -Happiest Customer

Yelp
Breakfast Sandwich among other house specialties , reasonable price, in the heart of Harlem! Great atmosphere! The nicest staff!

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches!!! Loved their food for lunch and awesome workers. They are so polite. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
Ambiance, aesthetic, food, and staff were great! Definitely a good place to start your day.
