When this restaurant first opened, my family and I gave it a try. My review was not positive.
During my most recent visit -- lunch with a friend -- I found things had improved somewhat, but in general, I wasn't overly impressed.
It's a bit confusing walking in, because you see a service station dead ahead, with carafes of coffee, packets of sweeteners, and soda machines, which lends to the impression that it's self-serve. Is it? I couldn't really tell, but the front area to the left appeared a bit cafeteria-like.
The music being played inside was a bit loud for us, so we opted to sit outdoors, since the weather was pleasant. Our server was very attentive and professional, and checked on us frequently. The menus she handed us had seen better days. And the number of choices is crazy big!
I ordered "green eggs & ham," a scramble of eggs, ham, spinach and avocado, with mozzarella cheese. It was a large portion, somewhat bland. I was offered a choice of white, wheat or sourdough toast. I asked if the sourdough was real, and to her credit, the server told me it wasn't, so I opted for whole wheat. Glad the server was honest -- what's WITH restaurants that offer sourdough and it's not genuine?
I'm guessing the platter hadn't been warmed before the entree was put on it, because the eggs chilled rather quickly as I was eating. The mozzarella on the dish was in small disks, rather than shredded, and the little slabs were rubbery. :-(
I may try Nealie's again sometime, but frankly, I'm not in a hurry.
