Neat Kitchen + Bar

I just had an incredible experience at Neat Kitchen in Westmont. I was a bit hesitant bc their menu doesn’t mention gluten free options but was pleasantly surprised. Our waitress Anna was knowledgeable and comes from celiac lineage. They have gluten free fryers, their staff is trained to take GF orders seriosly by changing gloves and preparing your meal in a seperate area. Anna said they can modify almost everything on the menu to be GF. They also have GF buns and can convert any sandwich. Below is a pic of my Ungrilled Short rib and cheese sandwhich. Great place. Food was all excellent. Good variety, decent pricing. Drinks were very good. They also have a happy hour. Indoor and outdoor seating are both excellent options. Staff was extremely lovely. We said we were sharing our plates, and they split it for us, which was a nice touch.

Food was delicious overall! Only improvements that could have been made where having some more truffle on the fries and frying the Korean Cauliflower. Otherwise hit so good! The speciality cocktail was fantastic! For dessert we got the milk n cookies cake...so good it made us wanna buy an entire cake to bring home!!

Haven't had the food yet except for dessert, which was very good. My husband had the Neat Old Fashioned and I had a Blueberry Ginger mule, which we will order again. Service was excellent. Next time we go to see Scott Allen perform, we will stay for dinner.

The waitress, Emma was great, so genuine and warm. We had burgers that were really good , along with the Lavender 75, thanks Emma great suggestion!! Next time we come back to the area , we would definitely stop back in.

This was best Panko Chicken and Cobb Salad I’ve tried in a long time! Great atmosphere, simple and neat. Wasn't that busy on a Monday evening. And food is sooooo satisfactory with all the flavors! Must visit place for a dinner date.

My grandson made a 6:30 reservation on a Friday night. The food was excellent! We will return and will recommend Neat Kitchen. The atmosphere was loud but not so loud that we couldn't communicate. The only hiccup was that we had to wait thirty minutes to be assigned a server. Miscommunication? The host, management, and even runners were very apologetic. Thank you for the apology. Too many establishments wouldn't bother. We certainly didn't let one hiccup ruin our evening. Keep up your outstanding standards.

We threw a baby shower here a few weeks ago and we were so pleased with the staff. John was so incredibly helpful. He said "anything you need" and man did he mean it! We weren't asking for the moon, but I guarantee if we had asked for the moon, he would have made some calls. Anna and Jackie were our servers for the party and they were just as incredible. I am familiar with this restaurant and their food and have always been impressed, but the staff at this party totally blew me away. They were quick, kind, friendly and so helpful. The staff that helped us with planning was just as amazing. I am so happy with this experience and can't wait to have another party here in the future.

We came during the taste and it wasn't super slammed so we popped in. It was a little crowded, fast paced but not too loud! Our server was so so sweet! Emma I believe was her name. Good recommendations and she still gave great service despite running around! The only reason this isn't a 5 star- we had to get new utensils like everyone we had still had lettuce, cheese or something on it. Super off putting so we ultimately decided on using our hands. We had a potato soup, highlight of the meal. We got a side of shredded cheese and sour cream and it made it that much better. So good! The short rib grilled cheese was dry, but not inedible. Our fries were lukewarm at best. Our brussel sprouts were "flash fried" but burnt beyond belief. We tried just picking the bacon out. But they were absolutely dry and crisped up lil sprouts. The lobster salad reminded me of seafood salad from Jewel. It was weirdly over mayo-y and the Bibb lettuce was so brown and withered that too was inedible. Ultimately, we boxed everything up because our server was insanely sweet and we didn't wanna leave extra work for her LOL. Would return for service, drinks and soup but definitely not for food!

Overall, very good experience very fast, good burger, good spacious table, seating and a good environment

I like this place a lot. I've only had appetizers here during my three different visits. The drinks were good. Enjoyed the beer although one of the beers on tap that I tasted was downright warm. Not room temp. Warm. I wasn't crazy about the bland calamari and it's accompanying sauce, both of which needed more seasoning. The tuna nachos made up for them! The decor has an upscale industrial feel. It can get pretty loud because of the design but not intolerable. The wait and bar staff are always good.

Neat Kitchen & Bar is in downtown Westmont and was recommended to me over the years before moving out to the western burbs. Once I was out here I decided to give Neat a try and have been back several times since. Their food is always good and fresh - I've never been disappointed in any of my meals. Service is usually pretty friendly and quick especially when the restaurant is packed.

Fell off. Pick up no bbq for my short rib grilled cheese, side of slaw tiny container. If Matt still was around (god rest his soul) this would never happen. It's a shame what has happened with neat

We love going to Neat Kitchen & Bar for quick, easy, yet tasty plates. From their wings with solid heat, to their flavorful nachos, to their savory burgers, we always leave full and happy. Anna & Justin at the bar are super friendly and they have a killer Happy Hour you should check out too!

Service was great but the food was awful. Sweet potatoes fries were burnt steak salad was not steak. If you want to pop in for a drink have one because if you have 2 of the same thing it will not taste tbr same

I really like Neat Kitchen & Bar, and that's why I returned again to catch up with another party of 3 just about a month after our first visit. It was a Monday, and wow, this place was packed and hoppin' and it's a deservedly popular place indeed. Being somewhat creatures of habit, we got the same two delicious appetizers as last time - the mussels ($17) and the crispy chicken bao buns ($14). The sauce with the mussels is so good and addictive. I had their Neat burger ($17) this time with fries and it was tip-top delicious. My two pals and colleagues both had their whiskey BBQ burger, one with regular fries and the other with sweet potato fries. I also had a couple dark beers for a change from one of my favorite Chicago breweries and they were delicious: - Maplewood Fat Pug oatmeal milk stout (5.9% ABV), $9 - Maplewood Brownie Points Nitro brown ale (5.7% ABV), $8 Brooke B was our young lady server and she did a fine job on a busy night. On our arrival and check-in, the hands-on guy at the front desk happened to be Matt the owner. He's a friendly guy with a good memory and he runs a mighty fine brewpub. I look forward to revisiting again sometime.

Great place to eat, especially on Thursdays during classic car night in Westmont. This was my first time here but I had a feeling it would be good. We started off with appetizers for the group. I highly recommend the loaded poutine. The short rib is phenomenal with pickled red onion and charred jalapenos. I finally found a good poutine around here! We also ordered Hummus and Wings. The Hummus was very popular as it was cleared quickly, the wings were nothing special. For dinner I devoured the American Wagyu burger which was incredible! Havarti, roasted mushrooms, crispy shallots, Cabernet reduction and truffle aioli! I could have had two of them but I was full! Pair with some truffle fries and you are all set! The desserts looked great but my family and I were dead set on getting a waffle cone down the street at Everydays a Sunday Ice Cream shop. The drink menu is good as a I warmed up with their Neat Old Fashioned which was good. Good service, great atmosphere and great good! I'll be back to dine here again!

DRINK REVIEW ONLY Stopped by Neat Kitchen + Bar for Happy Hour. Well Spirits, Draft Beer, and Wine are all $5. Additionally, classic cocktails are $7-$8. We were also told that on Friday's, HH includes $5 off appetizers. Justin was our bartender and he was AMAZING! Very friendly, created great balance in drinks ordered, and nicely made conversation with us. We started by ordering a gin and tonic as well as a cosmo. The cosmo was not overly based with cranberry juice which was a pleasant surprise. I followed up with a Lavender 75 drink with vodka instead of gin. The drink had a good balance of bubbles from the champagne, subtle lavender, and lemon. Our last drink was the Apricot Sour. While it was whiskey forward, I loved the froth, nice fruity apricot taste, and fruity garnish at the end. Our drinks all around were amazing and I will certainly be back next time to try some food!

The food was delicious, the drinks were perfect, the service was incredible. Truly a great experience all around.

I got the poutine and Prime Rib Philly, both were very good. Food came out quick and our server James was attentive and fun. Definitely will be going back soon, hope I get James again!

Dang! The food was truly delicious. Big whiskey bbq burger had plenty of sauce and a great big onion ring on top. Cooked medium perfectly. Super bun. Great crispy fries! My wife loved her impossible burger too. Tots were a crispy appetizer with solid homemade ketchup. Good server service but even better the hostess stopped by (twice!) to check in. Keep up the good work.

Great food & drinks. They were so nice to seat all of our Jeep people. Service was still fast & good. The place is lovely! Very pretty. Lots of seating.

I've been here another time, but tonight came on a Friday night and it's super loud and busy. They got us in quite quick despite how busy it was. I was disappointed to give a 3 because I remember the food being better. I got the Texican burger. The chicharrón didn't add much to the burger. It was good, but I've had much better burgers elsewhere. My boyfriend had the black and blue burger and the bacon was way overcooked and the blue cheese flavoring was overwhelming, he didn't even finish it. The pop he got was in a small cup and had so much ice it quickly became watered down. Not worth the price for the quality

First time going to Neat Kitchen, and it won't be my last! I went with my dad for lunch, and they had a few great lunch specials going on, however we both opted to get something else. I ended up with the prosciutto and mozzarella sliders. They were simple yet flavorful, and the roasted garlic aioli paired very well with them. My dad got the mussels which come with chorizo, harissa, and Chardonnay sauce. Those were excellent, some of the better mussels I've tried. They have plenty of salads if you're looking for something lighter, and also several vegetarian options. Service was great, and the bar looked very nice with countless options of whiskey.

Long time customer, place has had its ups and slight downs over the years but it's always has some interesting things on the menu.

Came here based on a friend's recommendation, and sorry to say, we were all underwhelmed. Two of us had the restaurant week special, Caesar salad, short ribs with mashed potatoes, and crème brûlée. My husband ordered the blackened ribeye, and our other friend ordered a burger. We all shared a loaded poutine as a starter. Everything was mediocre. The ribeye was very undercooked, my husband had asked for medium rare, and it was very rare. I love my steaks on the rarer side, and this was even undercooked for me. The quality of the steak was also not great, many pieces were hard to chew and full of gristle. The seasoning on the steak was good though, unfortunately, it didn't make up for the poor quality of the meat. The poutine was bland, the fries not great. The short rib entree was also bland and very forgettable. The texture of the beef was very tender, but the actual flavor was nothing special. My friend said her burger was good, but nothing she'd come back for. She didn't love her pear cocktail, she said it tasted too artificial. I had a Paloma that was good. It seems they make drinks and put a piece of dried fruit on it, so it looks great, but doesn't necessarily taste great. The crème brûlée was yummy, that was the best part of the meal. Overall, the ambiance was nice, lots of families with little kids, friendly staff, and clean space. But the actual food was overpriced for what it was, and the drinks were hit or miss.

We were there this past weekend and while the menu indicates there is a happy hour - it wasn't advertised in the restaurant or on my bill for our wine. Perhaps - it was just at the bar, but then I wish the "Specials" tab on the site would indicate that. We ordered the Black and Blue Burger and the Texican Burger w/ fries and brussel sprouts. I liked my Black/Blue - had a good blend of the bacon and blue cheese. My husband thought the Texican was just okay - had hoped to taste the chorizo more. The fries were a bit bland - needed salt/pepper (but neither spice was on the table) and the sprouts were just okay. We liked Neat Kitchen, but with all the other recent finds in the western suburbs, I'm not sure it's one we would purposely go back to.

Neat kitchen has the most fresh affordable food and drinks. And the most amazing owner. We will miss you Matt...

Fabulous lobster salad - highly recommend. Loved the separate tossed greens beneath. Would come back again just for that. Very good French onion soup. Nice gratin on top. Lovely tea service, thank you for the honey & lemon- nice touch. Served European style on a little tray. Nice! Short ribs were flavorful & fork tender. Cauliflower app was excellent! Zippy, but not too much so. Kudos to the chef for not oversalting the food. VERY VERY busy on a Fri night. Res is a must, or you have to wait. Servers & kitchen were incredibly FAST. Food & drinks delivered quickly. Bussers really on their game. Parking can be a challenge. Public lot down the street had spaces.

Neat kitchen is so great. Ownership treats the restaurant like an artisan and is very passionate about the establishment. I haven't eaten at a table too often but every time, the wait staff is great. The bar staff at Neat are an awesome crew - down to earth family vibe and stellar mixology. I've gone many, many times but decided to finally leave a review. I love this place and it's the closest thing to a neighborhood bar that I can find in the suburbs. I'm a city guy and this is a super refreshing environment. Get yourself a drink from Alex, order a Wagyu burger, and enjoy yourself!

From the excellent food to the exceptional service, this place is a hidden gem! Do yourself a favor and have a treat. Not just bar food, elevated bar food.

Went here for lunch. 2nd time there 1st time review. The bread pudding was really good and I just had it to go. Lol. The ice cream and caramel were superb. Definitely recommend. The appetizer, chicken Wings were decent, crispy, (if you like that) and the gochujang flavor was decent, puts you in mind of a light bbq, it was cooked on to the wings I believe.

Spent an evening at Neat while visiting family in the area, and will return again in the future when I'm back. I sat in the bar area, so won't speak to the rest of the seating, but the bar is spacious and also welcoming. Nice for watching sports on the TV, having a conversation, or a bit of people-watching. The bartenders, Justin and Alex, were tremendous! They were knowledgeable, conversational, and will give you their thoughts on certain liquors or cocktails if you want them to. They also make a good drink (the most important part). Just what you want in a bartender. The short rib grilled cheese was delicious and I would recommend it as well.

First time here, had a great lunch a draft. Their short rib grilled cheese sandwich is awesome. Their Neat slaw is also killer. Enjoyed a draft Beezer...so good. This place look like it would do very well in the evening, I'll have to come back. Very good size bar, decent draft, bottle and can selection. And... looks to be a very nice whiskey selection. Service was spot on. Ambiance is chill. Definitely a good spot to spend some time.

We had company in town visiting, so decided to head to Neat Kitchen! And for last minute on a Friday night, it was surprisingly easy to get into! We were a little pressed for time, so we all skipped apps and salads. Our friend had the short ribs based on our recommendation, and they did not disappoint! They were awesome! (Although I do miss the yummy celery root purée that they used to come with!) My hubby and I both went with the salmon. The salmon had a ginger teriyaki glaze that was fabulous! But unfortunately, the sides that came with it were disappointing. The menu stated that it came with broccolini and sticky rice. What came was a larger than your fist size chunk of regular broccoli. I don't like my veggies cooked to the point of being mush, but this head of broccoli was so undercooked it was hard to cut with a knife and fork. And someone should have mentioned they were out of broccolini. And the rice...not sticky rice. It was a large ice cream scoop serving of plain old white rice. Next time, I'll be back with the short ribs, or their chopped salad that rocks too!

Tonight the food and entertainment was great! I had the Neat burger ( yum, juicy but no greasy - cooked to perfection) hubs had the Philly steak, still talking about it Alex, our bartender was fabulous and Michael Hayes (entertainer) was so good! We drive all the way from Glen Ellyn looking for live music and will come back! Tip: 8:15pm seems to open up a bit for 2nd wave, so head over for a late dinner!

The food is amazing, the cleanest restaurant I've ever been to, and the service was astounding. I'm just so impressed with how neat and clean they are, they literally stand up to their name. Second time here, and will be coming here often!

I've been here numerous times and they stay pretty consistent. We like sitting in the back bar for drinks and food, having the bartenders suggest new drinks for us. All the bartenders have knowledge about whiskeys and other libations. It never hurts to get to know the bartenders! The food is good, they have a good burger and pulled pork sandwich. Most of the menu is what I would call comfort food. They have their own parking lot, which is nice.

Great food, atmosphere and service! Loaded poutine, shroom burger, seared ahi salad grilled cheese all great! And the Affogato for dessert was fantastic!! Busy night and owner stopped by the table to check in on our experience. Definitely will be back!

Old Fashioned! My wife and I returned to the Neat Kitchen and Bar for the second time and once again we were delighted. We started off with a couple adult beverages; A glass of Pinot Grigio for the Mrs. and a neat Old-fashioned for me. Honestly this was one of the top 10 old fashions that I've ever had and trust me i've had many over the last 40 years. I had the Braised Short Rib dinner and the Mrs. had the Buttermilk Chicken N' Jack Sandwich. Both were delicious, presented beautifully, and cooked to perfection. Our server Brianna did a stellar job. We also had a side order of roasted brussels sprouts with bacon that had the right mix of savory and sweet. portion sizes large so be prepared to take home leftovers for another enjoyable meal.

I've waited a long time to try Neat, and it didn't disappoint. Let me start by saying I'll go back ASAP so I can sit inside for a more comfortable experience-not the restaurant's fault-that was in "Phase 3" and as we're now in "Phase 4" will be back. Very good food-quality of proteins, veggies, sauces is there and a great mix of flavors that is the right mix of rich/hearty but not overly filling. Nachos to start were quite good-hope to have those to myself next time! Wings were tasty and blue cheese and ranch dips were cold as were veggies. My son and I shared the steak and shrimp tacos (2 separate menu items) and they were tasty, as was the rice, but the hit were my wife's truffle fries and my other son's BYO burger, which he truly did. Maybe the largest fried egg I've ever seen was on top! Service-both the server and teammates who helped out-were attentive and helpful.

Can't call this a new restaurant any more since it opened in 2018 but somehow they keep reinventing themselves. The new outdoor patio is fabulous. The menu is constantly being tweaked, improving on classics with new subtle flavors. Every sandwich is great and the burgers are the best in the area hands down. A must stop!

I have been driving by for over a year and last week someone told be this place has great burgers so I stopped in today , WOW what a pleasant surprise, great atmosphere, burger was outstanding and customer service was astonishing. The menu looked good to I definitely will be back

Had a great blackened chicken cobb salad yesterday. Really flavorful, ranch dressing (smidge too much), bacon, TONS of flavor. Just what I wanted. Service attentive and can't speak to the alcohol but the descriptions sounded good. Nice super clean, covered, outdoor area.

Love the drinks! Food is fresh and yummy! We usually wind up here when it's cold outside, but they added a patio, can't wait to use it this summer!

We came for a very casual Monday night to watch football. Super cute spot. Love the laid back country feel. Nice bar with a few TV's. Food was good. Had the Ahi Tuna Nachos. Nice and lite but flavorful. We got an old fashioned and a Manhattan neat. Both were very good. Definitely will be coming back. Want to come for a meal next time.

We just had my daughters wedding shower here. Matt and his staff went above and beyond for us. The drinks and food was amazing. If your looking for a place for a party.....give NEAT (owner Matt) a call. You will not be disappointed.

Last night we hosted a Dance Team Party at Neat! We spent much time searching for a location that would seat 100 people, stay in our price range of $25-30/person, and was in the Downers Grove/Westmont area. Matt was great to work with. He created a menu that kids and adults enjoyed and made the entire space (except the bar) private for our event for a portion of the evening. We were able to have a Photo Booth and bring in our own cake! It really made the evening special for our guests! All of the employees at Neat were attentive and polite! We look forward to hosting another event there in the future!

Delicious food, great drinks and an amazing atmosphere. Not to mention super friendly and helpful staff. Loved it!

This place is great. I love supporting an independent neighborhood spot like this over the boring corporate bar and grills. It has a cool interior and gretat music playing in the background. The drinks are fantastic, my go to is the Neat Old Fashioned, but there is a huge variety of creative drinks to choose from as well as a ton of beers. The apps are not the same cookie cutter stuff you see everywhere. The crispy chicken bao buns are really good, a great app to share. The chicken nachos were delicious. I loved the burger I ordered, and the brussel sprouts side was a great addition. I had to fight off my daughter from eating them all. It's great to have an owner like Matt on site who takes pride in his place, it trickles down through the whole staff.

Neat burger is great, have an egg. Great recommendation by Bon vivant Jeff Lange. His weekly lunch spot with the old timer Porsche gang.
