Where To Celebrate Old Fashioned Week in LA | Eater

"The slogan on the bar’s website could double as one for the old fashioned itself: “A bar born to remind us of what it means to get back to basics.” And while that might seem odd coming from an establishment that features a milk-washed aperitif and a red cabbage-infused pisco on its ingredients list, the West Los Angeles successor to the Liquid Kitty also does the traditional cocktails with a precision. Take their old fashioned, which features a Private Barrel selection of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof along with Demerara syrup and two types of bitters — one being walnut, which brings out the oak notes in the whiskey." - Vox Creative

12 Spots to Drink Bianco Negronis in Los Angeles | Eater

"Although Neat prides itself as a “bar born to remind us what it means to get back to basics,” there’s absolutely nothing basic about this bar. Located in West L.A., the dark and intimate bar features classic drinks, craft beer, and wine, plus an occasional live music moment — making it perfect for dates or when you just need an after-work drink. It opened in 2017 and has been a hit with West L.A. residents and outsiders ever since." - Samantha Leal

Google
Easily one of the top cocktail bars in Los Angeles. They admittedly are a little light handed on their pours, but the taste is outstanding. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend to all!

Google
Hands down my favorite bar. We discovered this bar while working on the Fox Studio Lot and have become regulars ever since. The Mozzatini is to DIE FOR. And the bartenders are just so nice. This bar doesn’t have the pretentious feeling most bars have in Los Angeles. I will continue to be a regular for as long as it stays this way. But really, try the Mozzatini. Its so so good.

Google
Cute little gem of a spot. Great mood, not too pretentious. Nice cocktail craftsmanship. Great Japanese whiskeys. The happy hour goes only until 7, though (not 8 like advertised on their website as of May 2019), but the bartender honored it nonetheless.

Google
Amazing cocktail bar with drinks that will blow your mind! The best was the la clandestina! Great vibe for a Thursday night, great old school music!

Google
Their house old-fashioned, which only costs $12.00, is amazing. The well bourbon is 1792, which is phenomenal. Their mezcal menu is impressive and they make incredible dirty martinis (my personal favorite). Despite very affordable prices, the bartenders here know what they are doing. I came here at 7:30pm on a Saturday, hoping for a decent old fashioned or mezcal, and stayed until 10 pm because of the amazing drinks.

Google
Cocktails are so pricey these days, but I actually believe the drinks at neat are worth it. The variety, taste, and uniqueness are on point. Plenty of seating so I’d recommend coming as a group so you can try variety of their drinks. The tomato basil martini tastes just like a pizza (in the best way).

Google
It said it should be open Thursday 6 PM, and it’s locked. Looks like someone forgot about their shift do better.

Google
Walked in hoping to gets some drinks and play guitar hero but ended up regretting coming at all. We walked in to a nice calm environment, which was nice. We were looking for the bouncer so they can check our ID’s. But no bouncer was around, so we decided to get some menus and sit down to decide on what to get. My friends already knew what they wanted so they went to the bar and were greeted by a rude bartender. I don’t know if there was a rush or something but he was irritated. The way he handled himself with our group made us rethink even staying. It was my first time coming here and it will be my last time here. Also be warned it smells like the pirate of Caribbean ride or the jurassic ride.

Yelp
we love the unassuming charm this place has. normally, you wouldn't expect a bar so quaint yet sophisticated on pico blvd. there's also many options on the menu to choose from. they had me at the red hot chili pepper cocktail, a five-star mezcal hit.

Yelp
Tried neat on Halloween night on a double date Ambiance is cute Dark with mood candles and read leather chairs Flowers hang from the roof They have kitschy decor behind the bar, like a sign that has the exact date prohibition was abolished - which was brought to our attention by another patron as it allegedly ended on his birthday lol Theres a stack of free games to choose from in the corner if you and your party get tired of talking over the music They offered 6$ halloween shots I had a couple lemon drops that got me a little tipsy My date had 4 old fashions, it wasnt until the 4th that they finally put cherries in his drink so not sure if drinks being mixed are consistent across bar tenders Cute lil bar with a chill vibe Id go back to try their espresso martini and maybe check out their live r&b nights

Yelp
Cute spot that was decorated for the holidays. Good cocktails, I liked the menu with so many different options separated out by what type of spirit or drink you want. Decent happy hour, too. Can get a little rowdy and crowded, so it's better to come earlier to find seats. I think that's my only downside, really -- it seems like it should be a cocktail bar that's a little quieter and calmer than it ends up being. But if you're in the area, it's a good spot to try.

Yelp
This is such a great place! I had a 20s themed birthday here and everyone had a great time. They allowed us to bring outside food since they don't serve any which was perfect. They have a happy hour so my friends and family were able to partake in some discounts. The drinks are so great. It can be a bit dark but the decor matches the vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
This bar has the best cocktails down Pico. You can tell there's a lot of thought and care being put into each one. It's a great place for a small outing with friends or even a first date. They do not have TVs. They do have board games or table games available. There is street parking but that can be tough depending on the day. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a quality cocktail.
google avatar

Yelp
Low-key spot to grab a quick drink after work or even end the night at. The bar is chill, spacious, but also has ample seating. It's always a good time here!
google avatar

Tim T.

Yelp
We didn't have food but the ambiance was chill . Good place to take a first date and talk . The bartender was cool. It was cool to try once but won't be coming back.

Saurav S.

Yelp
Its alright - ambiance is on the quiet side which i liked. Went with my coworkers and had a good time coz there were many card games. Whats lacking? Food - there was 0 food, like not even chips/peanuts/etc. hated it. Service - service was kinda lacking too. For a large group, we had to carry our drinks in batches

Yelp
I've wanted to go to this bar for FOREVER, and I finally stopped by on a Tuesday night. It's so pretty and dark inside which I love and actually smaller than I expected, but hey - it's not the valley lol I asked the bartender for prosecco and he politely let me know what they're most known for and how they aren't focused on wine lol - so I had some grapefruit sparkling concoction that I can't even tell you what it was because I don't remember haha. I also didn't see an espresso martini on the menu, but he made it for me anyway and it was delicious! I'll definitely be back for sure!
google avatar

Lorena K.

Yelp
If you know anything about good tequila and mezcal this is your go to spot! They don't have no weak ass "clase azul" they carry top notch stuff that is rare to find, I haven't come across a bar that carries only the best..and it's safe to say I found my go to bar when I'm trying to be classy and show off. Lol shout out to Matthew and Anamarie for treating us like we were the only two at the bar. Very attentive !!! If you want good the good shit this is the spot to be at!

Kevin A.

Yelp
Went to support my friend for their artist showcase after a long day. I didn't have drinks or food yet so I can't speak on that. I was there for maybe 10 minutes and put my head down because again, long day. Then this bartender or manager came up to me with a weird rule that we can't put our heads down. Idk what his problem was, but it was lame. They'd probably just pay to remove this yelp review anyway.

Yelp
Great cocktail bar! The espresso martinis are BOMB. The music is really loud though. Love the interior as the roses on top make it feel super cozy and romantic

Tina C.

Yelp
Came here for an event with a group and learned how to make two types of drinks. So much fun! This place is an amazing place with its collection of good quality spirits, great bartenders, and uniquely crafted cocktails. The owner Gwen and bartender Rick were both so kind and helpful. I really enjoyed my time here and wanted to try everything on the menu. I will be back! Want to check out the salsa and live music nights.

Yelp
I hosted an event at neat bar and my guests and I had a really nice time! A few weeks before the event, I filled out an inquiry form on the website and the owner got back to me right away. He was also pretty quick to answer all of my other questions, which I really appreciated! I decided to go with this spot because they allow outside food, which I wanted to bring for my guests. I also think it's cool that they have happy hour most days of the week! There's plenty of seating inside and they have a side table with some card/board games. I will say that it's pretty dark inside lol so be prepared to use your night vision! They had good music playing too which added to a cool ambience. I also enjoyed their drinks- my favorite was Mr. Fahrenheit (I think that's what it was called!). As we were leaving, we accidentally threw out an extra shirt that I brought and I didn't realize it until after we left. I talked to the bartender and he said he'd try to look for it- the next day he contacted me and let me know that he found it! It was under a pile of trash and I can't believe this guy made the effort to fish it out lol. Such a nice gesture! This was my first time visiting and I hope I can make it back again soon. I'm happy to support this local establishment and recommend it to others!

Yelp
This place was quite the surprise for me! I was visiting some friends in the area and we decided to walk over here since it's nearby and they had been here before. Excellent choice! The drinks that they whip up here are delicious! I ordered a few different ones. I truly loved the first one I got (I wish I remembered the names). The second one was good. I really like the ambiance and dim lighting here. It's truly a great place to take someone on a date I'd say. I love the colorful lighting around the ceiling that makes it feel festive and cozy! I'm not sure if it's there year-round or if it's because it was right after Christmas, but please keep it up all the time! I'd definitely recommend this place. Just be aware you'll be spending around that $18-22 mark for cocktails!

Yelp
My friend and I had dinner at Sawtelle and decided to check out a few bars. Neat has replaced the former Liquid Kitty to become more trendy and classy. The bar is dark and intimidate. Bartenders were all friendly. To be honest, I didn't have much expectations going in but I was absolutely blown away by this place! I ordered the 1-2 punch and it was absolutely delicious like dessert. It consisted of aged rum, rose aperitivo, pinot noir, strawberry, and milk wash. I had to google a few of the ingredients lol but it was so amazing that I had to order a second one! Neat is probably my favorite bar in West LA right now. I will actually make it a point to return when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Great bar, has a really good ambiance, great selection of whiskey and they play some really great music. Service is good. Haven't tried their food. If you are looking for a small spot to hang out and is nothing crazy then this would be your place. 90's music(hiphop and RnB)
google avatar

Vanessa G.

Yelp
Great staff. Great people. Great energy. Great drinks. Great ambiance. None of that smelly hipster stuff. Silverlake could learn a thing or two. I took my physical activity friend Jaewon here. Jaewon is from Watts (Grape Street soldier) and has never seen a place so diverse after 10:00 PM. He loved it. Everybody was so nice to him and didn't even ask him to put his rag away. Will definitely come back and bring more of my activity partners, eye brows - eye brows!

Yelp
Neighborhood spot that doesn't really live up to its cocktail bar name. Maybe we came on a bad day or it was the wrong bartender, but the cocktails were a miss during this Saturday pre dinner drink. Seemed to have comfy, cozy dim booths and bar seats but almost a little divey with the level of stickiness at the bar. Not an big issue if the cocktails were up to par, but none of the menu cocktail were super interesting or along the lines of any classics. Again, all fine if the drinks were actually decent. We went with more classic choices for the price - penicillin and ever oolong which was a riff on an old fashioned with, you guessed it, oolong tea. Hardly a hint of tea and honestly overhyped for the description that I received. A little more trial and error to get it right or the bartender should have tried both the drinks before serving. The penicillin was downright terrible tasting only of lemon and not in a good way. We like ginger, honey and an actual nice float of Laphroig which is what we're always looking for in a penicillin / why we order it. We were able to send it back which we've never done in our lives. However, bartender shot off the unprompted comment to my partner "you must not like scotch, huh?". He may not have intended to come off as rude but he did anyways. We enjoy many liquors, especially scotch and whiskey, neat. Talk about leaving a bad taste in your mouth. This was way too long for a bad review. TLDR - don't come here if you're looking for a cocktail bar, it's a neighborhood spot for overpriced drinks that aren't that good. Stick with drinks on the rocks or neat as they do have a good selection of whiskies and tequilas.

Arturo V.

Yelp
Really wish Hannah Marie and Matt would stop playing shitty emo music all the time. P.S. I saw Saul making out with a boy in the bathroom Love the bar best drinks in town
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Cool ambience for some nice cocktails. Espresso martini was decent and they have a large whiskey selection. They were playing bangers
google avatar

Branden D.

Yelp
Went to this bar late one night with a date and it overall wasn't it for us. While the pros of this location would be that there's plenty of parking on the outside, the seating in the inside is nice and there's a good amount of space for people that like to sit down. The customer service needs to be upscaled as I wasn't acknowledged when I walked to the bar. A few of the tables that were unoccupied still had empty glasses at them so if the place gets crowded, no one should have to sit at a spot where there's dirty used glasses. So we left and went somewhere else. If the service ever improves then maybe I'll return to try out the food and drinks.

Yelp
neat is a neighborhood bar that serves up some fantastic cocktails! The first time we came to neat, Saul was our bartender and he really took care of us. We love a good craft cocktail and they know what they're doing. Their flavor profiles are on point and on trend. Our goto's are He Chose Margot, She-so Spicy but you can also let your bartender know what spirit you like and they'll mix something up for you. These guys are true mixologists and know how to provide great hospitality. The vibe here is casual and intimate and great for groups or date night. We brought our brother and sister in law here and they loved the drinks too. If we lived closer, neat would definitely be our go-to spots! Don't sleep on this one, guys.

Angel L.

Yelp
Ambiance is good, drinks are amazing and creative. They have a rotating drink menu so you can go back during different seasons and always try something new. The bartenders here are great. The bartenders will give you suggestions if you're unsure on what to try. Can't recommend this place enough

T W.

Yelp
My brother and I went to beat for a whiskey tasting and it was amazing. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The selection of whiskeys were good. We said we were coming back.

Colditz K.

Yelp
We were just looking for a casual drink spot after dinner and stumbled into this bar. I was really surprised at the wide selection of whiskey available, but we just wait for the cocktails. The cocktails were made really well and were really refreshing. The bartender let us have our conversation without interfering with anything so the entire experience was great.
google avatar

Neda O.

Yelp
This is a fun place to hang out with your friends at night. We came on a weekday afternoon and it got crowded pretty quick!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
If you really like Whiskey, this is the spot for you. It's a bit of a dark place with no TV. So expect to socialize quite a bit when you go there. They do not serve food here but they do allow you to both bring and eat your own food there.
google avatar

Isaac M.

Yelp
The service is great and the ambiance is upscale yet chill, trendy yet low-key...... The music is a vibe and the drinks and atmosphere is vibey..... Bartenders are great!Happy hour is best!

Lara D.

Yelp
Best Negroni I've ever had. Very interesting cocktails. I loved the special martini! Couldn't stop thinking about.
google avatar

Diane M.

Yelp
Cute little neighborhood bar that serves up innovative cocktails. I ordered the el Jardin at my last visit and it was a bit too sweet, but overall a great cocktail. Vibes are dark and it can be quite loud, so keep that in mind when planning to visit. On a recent Friday night, the bar was pretty busy. Service can be really slow as they've only got a couple of bartenders, and many customers.

Matthew D.

Yelp
Ordered the Idyllwild and is did not taste well at all. The other drinks were alright. The vibes and the atmosphere are ok. Bartenders were really nice though
google avatar

Preston I.

Yelp
Came here for a Thursday happy hour with a good friend of mine around 6 PM. Beautiful bar. Flowers on the ceiling give it a classy vibe without being pretentious. Dark lighting. There were only 1-2 other patrons when we arrived. Bartender is excellent! I didn't catch her name, but she made some amazing drinks. I loved everything I tried. Drinks were aesthetically pleasing as well as potent. Good place to catch up with friends or for a date. Happy hour prices are very reasonable. 4 drinks came out to about $44. Street parking available near the bar. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Allie S.

Yelp
I was there this past weekend and didn't want the well for a tequila soda so the bartender told me the next step up would be $20 and I was like that's fine! Then I got the bill and it said $28 with tip $34 so I paid $34 for a tequila soda. Just beware I think they try to scam you if they think you're not the type to complain and I felt too bad to ask them about it but it was a good vibe!
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
Easily one of the top cocktail bars in Los Angeles. They admittedly are a little light handed on their pours, but the taste is outstanding. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend to all!
google avatar

Jocey M.

Yelp
Great spot to catch drinks after work with coworkers, date night or to have a few drinks with friends. This place has a great vibe with great bartenders! Shout out to Issac #1 bartender on the westside , he knows how to fix a bomb mojito Corazón blanco tequila , basil and is topped off with lemon juice ! Never disappointed
google avatar

Yesenia C.

Yelp
I came here for date night with hubby and I really loved the ambiance. It's pretty dim in there so that made it a nice romantic place to grab an amazing drink. Seriously, the drinks were GREAT!! There is no food served, but I will definitely be returning w/hubby for another fun night. Parking was no issue at all, and you do have to show proof of vaccination to enter the establishment.
google avatar

Erica A.

Yelp
Heard about this place through Yelp. I saw the pictures and wanted to get my booty over here. It's small and cozy. Definitely a whisky bar but they did seem to have a full bar. Ambiance is a bit on the darker side but nice and intimate for a date
google avatar

Kristella P.

Yelp
Cozy dark lit and pretty ambiance nice to grab a drink and have conversations. Greta cocktail selections and good service!

Jerry F.

Yelp
We're desperately in need of good cocktail places west of La Cienega and neat does not help. Ordered a dry gin martini and the lady offered up a horribly diluted, shaken, watery mess with an olive in it. Maybe I should have specified I'd want it stirred when I ordered, but a martini should be stirred by default. I forget the exact price but it well over $15, close to $20 including tip. If this was some thundering club or dive bar, the careless execution is understandable. But at a place that holds itself up to be a classier watering hole, this is just unacceptable.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
This is honestly my favorite hole in the wall bar in the area now. Their selection on bourbon is great, the bartenders are knowledgeable and honestly super cool people, and the prices are great if you just want a night out lounging or sampling many things. Will be coming back sometime soon to chit chat with Saul & Arash and to sample some tasty bourbon!
google avatar

Jenna L.

Yelp
I've been here twice on different weekdays, has never been too crowded - ambiance is dimly lit w/ not too much noise. Smaller specialty cocktail drink menu, with nothing that stood out to me the times I've been there. Would say it's a good place to come and ketchup with someone, or a more 'get to know you' date-type place
google avatar

Ava W.

Yelp
Cute spot that makes a great dirty vodka martini. The vibe is very casual date but there's a booth section in the back that can fit at least 8 people comfortably. They have house cocktails in the $13-20 price range and $12 old fashioned all days.
google avatar

Blaise H.

Yelp
I love this place!! Have never met such friendly bartenders who truly get to know everyone at the bar. The she-so-spicy was my favorite. Such a perfect balance between citrus and spice. Overall loved the vibes and welcoming service. You can tell how much goes into each cocktail.
google avatar

Zoey T.

Yelp
My group and I had just ended a Lunar New Year Dinner at Meizho Dongpo and wanted to grab drinks afterwards so I recommended this place! It's been on my bookmarks for a while and I'm so glad we made it here! My friends and I absolutely loved how laidback it was. The music was not ridiculously loud like other bars and the bartenders were chill as well. When we entered it was pretty empty but started to get busy once 10pm hit. However, it was not that loud still (If anything we were a little loud a - SO SORRY ABOUT THAT!). Ambiance: dimly lit, beautiful hanging artwork, great music Drinks: Everyone had about 4 cocktails each and we all loved it! It wasn't crazy strong but we def felt it after the 3rd cocktail. Overall, my friends applauded me for choosing a great spot and we are looking forward to our next visit!
google avatar

NJ K.

Yelp
Such a cool little hole in the wall cocktail bar. We came here to celebrate with some friends last minute since it was nearby, and it was much better than we expected. The ambiance is that of a dark whiskey bar. It wasn't too crowded, and it's easy to get a hold of the bartenders. There's ample seating and space to stand making it a great place to catch up with friends and have a conversation. Alternatively it's a nice after-dinner drink spot. They have an old-fashioned special which is superb. The bartenders are all knowledgeable and friendly. They make the drinks appropriately strong but not overbearing. I was pleasantly surprised by their bourbon menu as well, as they have some difficult-to-find bottles on there. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and in the mood for a good cocktail! We'll be back for sure.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Great little bar with well made cocktails and a great vibe. Bartenders always have such a great attitude. We prefer to go on weekdays to relax and have a good drink... visited on a Saturday night and it filled up. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem as their drinks are VERY good if you're into that craft cocktail kinda thing!
google avatar

Ebony R.

Yelp
It's a lovely place with a good balance of nook and crannies to sit more intimately and more open space to meet other people. The drinks are too expensive for what it is. I ordered a rum and coke. First, they did not have a coconut rum and 2. It cost me 14 bucks. For a Rum & coke!? I won't be back. Too many options in this location to up charge people.
google avatar

Rowan W.

Yelp
This little bar is... well, neat! And on a Monday night, it was actually pretty quiet, which meant the crowd I was a part of could comfortable cram into their big booth in the back. It's what you'd expect of an LA bar, yeah? $14 cocktails and beers that run pretty pricey, but all in all there were some decent drinks. One of them I had was... okay. I liked the little edible flower it was served with, but the drink was also rimmed with table salt, which was just gross. Then I tried an old fashioned, which was a lot better, but sweeter than I expected by a fair bit. Either way, plenty boozy. Worth a trip back for sure.
