A foundational Memphis name, Interstate still turns out ribs, pork shoulder, and its famed barbecue spaghetti—popularized by local media and road-food writers. Family-run and community-minded, it remains a rite of passage for visiting barbecue pilgrims.

My family and I were in the mood for BBQ, so we decided to give this place a try, and I'm really glad we did! The brisket was decent, and the sauce was delicious, generously smothered on top. If you prefer, you can ask for the sauce on the side as well. The green beans and potato salad were both fantastic, and my daughter loved her nuggets. My husband was also very satisfied with his meal. The dinner plates are incredibly generous; my brisket plate was enough to feed two people! The ordering process is straightforward—you simply go to the counter to place your order and then wait to be called to pick up your food. They have plenty of tables, so you can enjoy your meal right in the restaurant. Overall, it's a great spot for BBQ!

“These are the BEST beef ribs east of the Mississippi! Juicy, tender, fall-off-the-bone perfection. Smoked to glory with just the right bark. Even my dog Shasta couldn’t resist. She got her own rib & wouldn’t share it back. This ain’t just BBQ, this is a religious experience.” Just 🔥 That Neely’s Interstate BBQ Beef Rib Slab looks so good, it should come with a warning label. The first image makes it look like it belongs in a food magazine… but that second shot? That’s the real-deal BBQ street cred—meaty, bark-covered, smoky goodness you have to eat with your hands and wipe off with your sleeve. Shasta the Rib Slayer in the third photo? Come on now! 😂 That dog’s living better than half of America. She’s locked in, paws gripping the bone like it owes her money. Pure focus. Zero regrets. ⸻ “Neely’s Interstate BBQ – Beef Ribs That’ll Ruin You for All Others” 🔥 Flavor so rich it should be taxed. 🐾 Even my dog Shasta said “don’t talk to me, I’m busy.” 📍Best ribs east of the Mississippi—change my mind.

Normally the the rib tip plate is awesome,I got my order on yesterday, the tips were hard and kind of hard to chew,I called and spoke with the owner,he stated he has never had a complaint and he didnot know what to tell me,I spoke with his wife and stated we didnot want money back but I was going to bring in the plate, she was very nice and stated that was my choice and fine,I have recommended several people their, but no more,I spent 37$ and had to throw the plates away, Mr.Ken stated he has never had an issue, but anyone who knows business knows in order to cook well you will have complaints in order to get better, but once again, this was my 1st time purchasing a rib tip plate that was tough and my last time ,supporting or sending anyone their.

Stopped in on a trip to Memphis with the family, after being recommended by several locals. We were there when the door opened, and had time to visit with the folks working. We had an amazing time, and the food was phenomenal (I had the sampler plate, and could only finish about half of it - was great the next day as well). Highly recommended

I'm glad I decided to dine in 🙂 Everyone was welcoming and not just to me every customer was treated the same. And the food was so good I placed a second order to take home.

I had the bbq sampler platter and a piece of strawberry cake and was not disappointed.

Google
Visiting from Texas, NEELY’s was fantastic! Friendly staff and family vibes, the food was full of love. The beef ribs were so different from anything I’ve ever had and easily the most interesting. The bark was chewy and smokey while the meat was perfectly tender. The BBQ Spaghetti on the other hand was actually insane. Never came across something like it, but it just works so well! Absolute must try if you’ve never had it before. We also got a slice of the pecano pie (pecans and sweet potato) and it was wonderful. Not too sweet, tasted like campfire candied pecans in a sweet potato casserole but with way less sugar. 10/10 would recommend.

Google
The food was gross. They catered food for our 2025 reunion every single thing was nasty the spaghetti was sweet and vinegary, the ribs had no sauce, Mac and cheese no salt pepper or anything, mashed potatoes a no, peach cobbler was a peach jam no type of butter, cinnamon nor nutmeg. Just need to stop it because it’s a HARD NO

Yelp
I stopped here to eat while waiting for my tire to be repaired. It has a low key casual ambiance. The Food was excellent and the service is outstanding!!! Stop by and try the turkey and ribs!!!!

Yelp
I should preface this by saying I am NOT a Bar-B-Que Expert. That said, everything we ate was fantastic... the ribs, the beans, the fries... just delicious and fresh and reasonably priced. For me, a bit grab and go though. The ambience seems to have been affected by (perhaps) covid and eating out of styrofoam on site is a little meh. 5 for food - one star deducted for the rest of the experience.

Yelp
The owner is a old man now and I hate he cannot check his reviews and businesses mainly pertaining his customers review,he should replace his son in Germanshire and winchester period,we will never go back, rib tips were like rubber, his altitude was he didnot care

Yelp
My wife and I took an Uber to get to this place, talking with our driver she said that no one goes to Neelys and now I can see why. We walked in at 7:00 on a Saturday night and the employees said they were closed, really? What restaurant closes at 7 on a Saturday night? How do they stay in business? She even called her husband and he also said don't go to Neelys. She recommended Germantown Commnisary, so glad Neelys was closed.

Yelp
Tried the brisket nachos and pork sandwich. Both were very good! The service was great also, very kind and helpful. Must try BBQ spot in Memphis!
google avatar

Yelp
Environment was welcoming. Service was good. Food could be better. Did a call in for a shoulder sandwich which they told me would be 10 minutes. Feel like I could've came earlier because my bread on my sandwich was soggy, even being cooked. Not a bad price for two sandwiches. Not one and done for me, which is good.

Yelp
Been eating the Q @Neely's since 1972. I started when I started working at ICRR (railroad) right down the street. Still as good! JKF

Yelp
This place is a 10/10 for service and food. Get. The. Wings. You're welcome. The seasoned fries are also great.

Yelp
Over the past several years, I've ordinarily had the beef brisket here, with a couple of sides. I've even brought out-of-town family members here. What I can say, is how utterly inconsistent this restaurant has been. Sometimes the bbq is moist, tender, and delicious. Other times it's been very dry, or overladen with disgusting gobs of fat. It's also difficult to predict when this place will be open for business. Oftentimes it's closed. Best to call ahead and check.

Yelp
While visiting Memphis we decided on having some barbecue Memphis style. Disappointing to say the least. I was excited from looking at the photos on the website so I ordered the combo platter. When they served our table with our order I know they could see my disappointment on my face. The pictures showed the platter served on a platter but mine was served in those foam to go boxes. I ordered dine in. The beef ribs were tough and dry even with the sauce on it. The sausage link was dry and tasteless and over done. The pork ribs were tolerable but not what I was expecting from the Name on the building. Pulled chicken and pulled pork coleslaw, beans and barbecue spaghetti fell short of expectations as well. The food temp was not as hot as I was thinking it would be considering the wait time for it to get to our table. Not a good barbecue flavor for me. I guess this location is more of a carry out location with dine in seating not very comfortable. While there I observed more take out orders pickup than dine in. Not much interactions with the staff. So low marks on service as well.
google avatar

Valencia T.

Yelp
Not what you'd expect from Memphis bbq! The sauce is horrible. The rib tips are decent....but that sauce needs work , so does the coleslaw. I really wanted to like it...I didn't

Yelp
Feeling like a pork sandwich like right now take out only that's just right for me nice friendly people I tryed this place before no complaints

Yelp
The service is great, greeted with a cheerful hello & smile! This plaza location is family dine-in friendly! The environment appears well-kept and is locally family owned. Don't be surprised if you see one of the owners! The rib tips dinner (bbq beans & greens for sides). The meat was tender, a tab bit greasy, not overly salty but had a nice subtle smoke flavor. Overall reasonably priced, flavorful, with good sized portions will satisfy your palate!
google avatar

Losa J.

Yelp
Super nice family-run bzns. Onion rings are crispy, beer, and plentiful. Try the smoked sausage. Will Definitely fill you up.

Yelp
Although it was good, it didn't live up to the hype. The customer service was great. Not sure I could recommend. They bring the food to you.

Yelp
Neely's had amazing BBQ. I had the beef brisket sandwich. Sauce comes on the side so you choose how much and what kid you want. The Sock-it-to-me cake is worth a try.

Yelp
The Neely's on Germantown Road and Winchester has good BBQ. Never real crowded and I'm sure they catch alot of the lunch crews in the area. Our order was a usual pick for us. The slab beef ribs and the pork rib tip dinner - two sides - baked beans and slaw. Never disappoints. Big bone beef ribs saucy and thick. Tender, juicy pork tips with the meaty/fatty layers. Satisfied and Content. The cashier was pleasant and friendly as well. We'll be back again for our regular BBQ fill

Austin B.

Yelp
This was my second time visiting this location. I travel for work, so I have tried just about every style of BBQ that is available at various establishments across the US. I was in the area and was in the mood for a BBQ dinner that would be quick to grab so I decided to give Neely's a shot. The restaurant was mostly empty, and was fairly dark, and I only knew they were open from the sign in the window. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a young woman behind the counter. I looked over the menu and decided on a rib plate with baked beans and Cole slaw (my favorite combo). The price was affordable, and the portions were very generous. 5 ribs, and servings of bbq beans and Cole slaw and two slices of bread for right around $16 was not bad compared to prices I've paid elsewhere. I got my order to go, and it was packaged nicely and did not spill over on the short drive to my hotel. Upon first glance it looked like the average saucy ribs, but that first bite proved otherwise. Delicious bbq sauce, and the flavors in the pork ribs were phenomenal. Bbq beans and Cole slaw were very good as well and paired very well with the ribs. If you're in the area, and want a good spot to hit, this is the one! They have another location as well, which I believe was their first storefront, so I will have to go by and check them out soon as well! Thanks for the great food and I'll be back! I would've posted pictures, but I ate too quickly to take any!

Yelp
Got here around 11:30 and I was placing to go order. One person was in front of me, but the wait wasnt long at all plus just seating there made me even hungrier...

Yelp
I visited Neely's for lunch after seeing it a few times as I passed by it many times. I was in the mood for BBQ and there isn't much else in the immediate area to choose from. This visit I had high hopes. I arrived to see a party of about 15-18 people getting ready to leave. They were happy and seemed to have really enjoyed themselves. There were a few other tables sat and a decent stream of to-go orders where picked up while I was waiting. I asked my server what she suggested. Without hesitation she uttered the "Rib Tip's"... I am not sure if she really likes them or if she has been instructed to offer that as a suggestion. I still cannot understand why Rib Tips are such a treat to anyone. They are essentially a by-product. Why are they one of the most expensive things of the menu? They sell for one third of the price of Baby Back or Spare Ribs. They are just cheap meat. I decided on a Brisket Sandwich and a side of beans. She asked if I wanted it sliced or chopped (I think brisket should always be sliced) and I ordered sliced without slaw. As I waited for my food to arrive Mr. Neely comes out of the kitchen and goes outside to take a picture with the group that was leaving when I arrived. He comes back in and has friendly banter with his crew about being a good guy and always willing to take a picture with anyone who wanted one. My server begins to clean up the giant tables mess after she places my order. It took about 15-18 minutes to get my food. Now, I am sitting here knowing that they do not cook beef brisket to order. It should have been out in no less than 5-8 minutes considering all that it needed to be done was making it hot and plating my food. She continued to work on slowly cleaning up while I waited. As time went on I got more and more anxious about my wait and my facial expressions say it all when I am bothered. She made eye contact with me and screamed to the kitchen "is my order ready" all while still sweeping. She continued working on the dining room because I don't think anyone answered her. I finally get my food and the Brisket is chopped and not sliced. The bottom bun is completely soaked with sauce and cannot be picked up with my hands. There was sauce in pools around the sandwich and it seems to invade the bun that way. The sauce added to the top of the sandwich had not had a chance to make it all the way down through all of the meat but had poured off as they added it to the top. The meat was actually pretty tasty even though it was chopped. I used my utensils to flip the sandwich over and it gave me a good piece of bread to support the meat while eating it. They sandwich wasn't bad at all. Incorrect, but not bad... The beans on the other hand were terrible. Thick, overly sweet, dark, and congealed are the best words to describe them. I am sure they are better when fresh. As I am eating, my server's children (I assume) show up and while they were cute and Mr. Neely seemed to enjoy their presence they simply created another distraction for my server. I finished and waited, and waited, for my check. I finally stood up and that gets her attention away from cleaning and childcare. I get my check and it's wrong. I was overcharged and my side was listed incorrectly. I went to the front to see Mrs. Neely to pay and let her know about the incorrect check. She screams across the restaurant for my server. She comes over and then leaves to go get the right check. She gets back after a couple of minutes and I am so ready to go at this point. It has been more than 45 minutes since I arrived for a quick lunch. Note: the incorrect check says sliced brisket, and the correct says chopped. I assume the one that went to the kitchen was the one that said "sliced". I give her my money ($20 bill) and she doesn't have anything but ones in her drawer. She again screams across the restaurant, this time to Mr. Neely. She gripes at him about not stocking the drawer with change and hands him a $20 to break for me. As he is walking away, he touches my shoulder, and says "never work with your mother man". Although I think that is good advice, you have already made that mistake, and now you are belittling your own Mother to me, a stranger. I finally get out of there and that is when I notice the Yelp sign. I have been kind of down on myself lately because I can't seem to find any really good experiences. I don't know if I am being overly critical of the places I have been visiting but I had not planned on writing a review this visit because it was just Meh. I am going back to try again unless I am contacted about this review. I don't want any kind of apology or freebie. I always order what I want, never send it back, and review accordingly.

Yelp
OMG!!!! It was so damn good!!!! Hubby and I got the same thing. Rack of pork ribs potato salad and green beans. Huge portions and the green beans had ham. Lick your fingers good but don't do that

Yelp
Unfortunately they said they were open so I drove over there and they were closed so no review Friday m me

Yelp
This is my go to spot when I'm craving BBQ! I only get their rib tips plate!! It is my absolute favorite!!! I love the fatty goodness that their tips have! The tips are cooked to perfection saucy and just delicious. They are finger lickin lip smacking good!!!
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
I was very dissatisfied with the quality and taste of the food. I was hoping the BBQ would be legit as the reviews seem to be good but unfortunately the BBQ was not on par with the reviews. The beef ribs were extremely dry and there was little to no meat on them. I was handed a plate of huge "bones" with very little actual meat to eat. The small amount that was on the bone was tough as leather and tasted like cheap BBQ gum. These looked like dinosaur bones sans the actual edible part. The "rib tips" were nothing but little squares of fat with little to no meat on them. Extremely disappointed.

Doris J.

Yelp
I enjoy coming to this establishment, it is clean and they are always family-friendly and consistent with their food and services. I recommend this location when you have a taste for good beef or pork BBQ.

Steve G.

Yelp
We had the beef brisket sandwich with fries and it was delicious!! I would highly recommend. The friendly customer service was very refreshing and nice. After three days of visiting Memphis this was the only friendly service we receive in any restaurant we ate at.
google avatar

Teresa H.

Yelp
Had just gotten into town and we were starved! Ordered the small BBQ spaghetti, BBQ dog, potato salad, and the small order of wings. I really enjoyed the BBQ spaghetti. I should have gotten the bigger portion! The potato salad wasn't my thing but I'm sure others would like it. The chicken wings are the whole wing. I ordered the Honey Hot... which had a great flavor... I just could only eat 1 1/2 of the wings. (eyes were bigger than my tummy). There were a lot of things on the menu that I would like to try. I look forward to going back!

Yelp
Neelys is one of the best barbque places you can eat! Quick and precise, and some of the BEST customer service I have had in a long time.. That makes it even better.

Yelp
I was the only diner @ 5pm ~ except for the owner's daughter, who brought her kids in to eat. No beer or alcohol is served. Ribs are Wet ~ they do not serve Dry. I didn't smell smoke inside the restaurant or taste it in the Pork Ribs ~ & I was shocked that the Ribs were cut individually (minus 1*). They were slathered with a Memphis-style sweet sauce ~ Served with 2 sides & white bread:: $11. I removed 2** because there were 1/4-1/2" pieces of gristle in some ribs & fatty skin on some, which could not be detected until I was chewing it. Unacceptable quality. Since I was dining alone / hungry / there for the purpose of reviewing but wanted to be served as a "regular" diner ~ I did not send the order back & wait for another. But this is the socially-awkward dilemna diners face in a group ~ We may hesitate to send an order back while we encourage others to go ahead & eat ~ & We're also trying to have an uninterrupted personal or business conversation. Ever been called "picky?" In such a situation, that's not a bad name. Diners deserve an excellent experience for their $$$. I think this may be why some stop eating ribs & always order chopped / pulled / sliced pork ~ & that's a shame.
google avatar

Kris B.

Yelp
Not enough servers only one for lunch crowd? She was very nice and helpful Pulled chopped pork looked good but too dry. Even with extra sauce I had to ask for. None on table Onion rings cost extra but full of breaking and no flavor. Needed salt too I won't be going back

Monique R.

Yelp
This place has the absolute best rib tips in the city. The young lady that is normally at the front counter has customer service on lock! She is awesome if you haven't tried Interstate out, you failed! I recommend this spot to any and every one that asks for GOOD barbeque
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Good old friendly staff; what you'd expect in Memphis. Unpretentious location and atmosphere. The smoked turkey plate with 3 sides, an ice cold beer and lemon cake (made by auntie) were all solid. Ask for the spicy bbq sauce- yum!
google avatar

Carrie B.

Yelp
This place was recommended by one of my customers, who is originally from the area. Amazing brisket!!!! Wonderful bbq pork. Really wish that I could have tried the ribs, but we're just passing through and did not want to eat them in the car. Seriously good bbq!
google avatar

Jocelyn P.

Yelp
Atmosphere is great, family feel.... ribs cooked tender, sides an beans are very delicious! All in All we would comeback if we were local. Great location for BBQ coming from Owner Operators Oh the sweet tea!!!! Is a MUST

Brian H.

Yelp
Walked in and the staff jumped our case about wearing a mask. They are still only doing take out orders instead of dine in. We left immediately. I hope the virtue signaling is worth all the money they are losing. We went down the street to Big Bill's instead and the employees were awesome!
google avatar

Cheri C.

Yelp
We've eaten here several times and the one thing we have found each time is that the BBQ is amazing! However the service swings from superior to unacceptable, normally it's excellent with very friendly and attentive staff but sometimes it takes 30 minutes to get a pulled pork sandwich. BUT THE FOOD.... Amazing BBQ! The ribs and BBQ sandwich are some of the best we've had. The ribs are tender and tasty and we love the sauce! The baked beans are delicious and the Cole slaw a nice addition to the BBQ sandwich. Skip the fries, they're straight out of a bag but everything else is excellent. The restaurant is clean with plenty of seating. The restaurant is easy to find with parking out front.
google avatar

Cliff P.

Yelp
This is one my top 2 bbq places I have ate before The prices are not overwhelming and the ribs that I had were cooked very good tender easy to chew not tough and the sides were good as well. My only complaint would be the lemonade for my liking was sweet I like a little tart to my lemonade but if you are in Memphis and craving BBQ this is the place.

Yelp
When you enter Neely's Interstate BBQ, it's very spacious and clean. Decent BBQ joint decor, and it smells great which is the most important element of atmosphere. The employees here are very friendly. I had to get takeout as I was in a hurry, but even then they gave me the best customer service I've ever had for pick up. I ordered my food, and waited while watching Sportscenter on one of the big screens. I only waited around 12 minutes for the food, but Tony Neely himself came around the counter to apologize for the wait time and assure me the order was coming up. That tells you something right there, if that much care goes into a carry out customer, you now know why the barbecue here is so amazing. I got my two bags of food, around $20 and I was given about 5lbs to go. Generous portions of crispy fries. The baked beans have that delicious sauce and the right amount of pulled pork in it. The sauce itself, it's kind of thick and smoky reminiscent of the Kansas City style, but it has a peppery twang to it to let you know you are in Memphis. Just a great, simple sauce. So many new BBQ joints experiment too much, with ingredients from left field, just keep it plain, do it right, and you can't go wrong. The pulled pork sandwich is always a delight. The sauce, the fresh crunch of the slaw, and that extra bit of smoky salt from the dry rub expertly surrounds the crown jewel of Neely's. The shoulder meat was smoked perfectly, moist without being greasy, packed with smoky flavor. The bark from the dry rub also imparts subtle hints of spices into the meat. Just delicious. I want to add that the to-go bag was a paper sack that was stapled shut at the top. Little stuff like that I like to recognize, because the devil is in the details and so many restaurants don't give you those little hidden extras. They just don't give a damn. This is a nice looking restaurant, with amazing food. The ribs are a treasure with syrupy mop glaze being a favorite of mine, and the BBQ spaghetti is an institution. All of the prices are excellent. This is the epitome of what you expect from a family-owned local restaurant. There's so much care put into everything. You kind of get to feeling like you're a part of the family at Neely's. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Where do I begin???? I had a taste for BBQ so I came here.....THE SERVICE WAS AWESOME BUT THE FOOD WAS #HORRIBLE! I got the brisket plate......BBQ sauce was watered down, the meat was unseasoned, and the brisket was dry. The spaghetti taste like trash and it was spicy! I remember when this place first opened the food was wonderful and made with love! How about putting the Love back into you alls food and I'll give it a 5 star but for now it will get 1 star!

D S.

Yelp
I really can't rate this place. Drove several miles out of my way to get some late night BBQ about 10:30PM, but a piece of paper was on the door saying: "Will be open tomorrow "! I was so in the mood for BBQ They were supposed to be open until midnight? Hope everyone is ok?

Yelp
Went here last Friday with some coworkers and had a great meal. I usually go to the interstate BBQ down on 3rd but this is much closer to the office. The only bad thing is it is hard to notice on Winchester due to signage (on the southwest corner with a storage place sign in front. Service was great, quick and very friendly. I usu have he chopped sandwich which is huge, but I had the beef hot link. That was a great change up and the slaw with it was some of the best I have had. Co workers had BBQ sandwiches and 1/2 chicken and said these were very good as well. If you get the rib Tips, be prepared to take some home. The order is huge. Ken Neely came out and talked with us, made sure all was good. Great attention to the customer. Great place for Memphis BBQ

Yelp
So on our way back from a visit to Texas we decided to try what some call nationally famous maybe even world famous Memphis BBQ and the one I had seen on tv was Neely's. The reviews were a bit mixed but Im game to try almost any BBQ (Meat Candy!!!) so in we went. My Man was all about the ribs and they were probably the highlight of the combopack we ordered but the sweet potato pie was also amazing as was the fall off the bone shredded pork. We are giving this 2 thumbs, 5 stars and if we are ever in the area we will be headed back to this delicious spot for "Texan Approved" bbq. LOL

Yelp
Always great BBQ. pork ribs, pulled pork, brisket and the huge beef ribs are ridiculously yummy. What else can I say? Love this place

Kaz T.

Yelp
This place was the bomb that sock it to me cake was great the staff where great the food was a 10 real bbq and great southern hospitality

Henry B.

Yelp
This BBQ spot is exactly the same food like Interstate BBQ on Third. The best BBQ sandwich in town. Two sizes, regular or Jumbo. Both come with great delicious tasting chopped BBQ accompanied with slaw and one of the best sauces around. Very difficult to pick up and eat the sandwich. Both sizes are full of meat. Best to eat with a fork or get ready to drop most of the Q on your shirt or blouse. Great side dish is the BBQ Spaghetti. Unbelievable with a kick! Great menu for the BBQ Lovers. Ribs and all extras along with BBQ bologna. So this is a must place to be on your bucket list of Q restaurants in the Memphis area. Henry Brenner January 29, 2016

Yelp

The food was awesome. More than what I was expecting. Service was extremely pleasant and thoughtful. I will make sure to visit them again the next time I'm in Memphis.
