Yelp
This restaurant certainly leaves an impression, though perhaps not for the reasons one might hope. Its ambiance, lauded in some reviews, suits those looking for a lively gathering spot where conversation takes a backseat to thumping dance music in dimly lit surroundings. Yes, you heard right. This is another one of those restaurants with a DJ--super cool. Being able to see the menu, the food, and hearing someone seated across from you are secondary to the "coolness factor."
The food offers some redeeming qualities. The pork belly stands out with its flavors, while the parrillada, although not cooked to the requested medium-rare, was passable. Accompaniments like fries and salads are good. We can't say much about presentation because it was too dark. Yes, it was that dark.
The cocktails, however, fall short of expectations. A lackluster pisco sour lacking its signature foam, an overly sweet Old Fashioned, and a pre-mixed Negroni detract from the overall dining experience.
The service is great. This is the area where the restaurant shines. The servers were attentive and friendly.
Management might consider embracing a holistic approach to guest experience. Experiences are made of details that come together as a whole. They should sit around the restaurant and experience both the level of darkness and sound. Then, lower the volume a couple of decibels and add some table lamps. Get someone in the kitchen smart enough to know that you put coarse salt in a salt grinder and not table salt, so as to avoid a salty mess on my plate. You see, it's the little things that add up.
Ultimately, the sentiment around the table, "It was okay, but I wouldn't rush back," seems to be the consensus. For a venue striving for more than just a passing grade, small but significant changes could be key to long term success.
