The Pie in the Sky Fundraiser Returns, and More News | Eater Boston

"A small Somerville shop at 415 Medford St. that opened in late 2017 and focuses on improving neighborhood access to fresh food; it stocks produce plus local meat, dairy, eggs, bulk grains and nuts, pantry staples, and household items, and is operating as an in-person counter-service store with only one customer allowed inside at a time." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
Great local shop with good produce, dairy, and bulk dry goods (tea, grains, cereals, fruits, coffee, etc). Small shop that manages to carry a lot of variety! They have fresh bagels and breads, ice creams and local pasta too. Some cleaning supplies as well. Remember to bring your own bag if you can (though they have paper ones if you forget). Everyone is friendly. Love their dollar deals! Glad this is walking distance from me for when I need a few things for dinner or a refill of a bulk item.

Go here all the time and absolutely love it ❤️. The staff are friendly, the produce is amazing! Best beets I've ever had are from here. Always has an amazing seasonal selection, the dairy is great, the local pasta is incredible same with the local breads to die for! They recently expanded the freezer section and now offer more local meats too, I get the ground pork for tacos! I'd give 10 stars if I could cause the prices are even great this store is amazing!

Google
Great grocery store! So many local products

Google
An absolutely wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Great seasonal produce and pantry items, nice assortment of dry goods (in bulk bins!), and a helpful, caring staff. I urge you to try them out next time you need groceries! I recently tried some local frozen sausages. They were excellent, and from now on I'll buy sausages at Neighborhood Produce. I expect to have many more experiences just like that one.

Google
Ive visted several times this year and I can conclude these need to exist in every neighborhood, especially those that may be in food deserts. Their produce is fresh and comparable (often cheaper) in prices to typical grocery stores. They have quite a selection of produce, bulk items to purchase (flour, spices, snacks, etc) and even dairy products. They dry goods are a bit more sparse, but that encourages healthier eating anyways!

Google
This place is the absolute best you could ask for from a small market. Their prices are comparable and sometimes cheaper than the grocery store. The interior decor is wonderful, the selection is surprisingly varied. Matt (the owner) is delightful, friendly, and receptive to requests. All of his employees are wonderful to chat with. This is totally a Neighborhood shop.

Google
I always knew my jar collecting would come in handy. My favorite grocery store with great prices and selection.

Google
Blown away by the quality difference -- I just stocked my pantry from their bulk section and every item was the best version of that item that I've had. The mango was the best dried mango I've tasted, etc. Even the peanuts were the best peanuts I've ever had, which is crazy (roommates tasted and confirmed - who knew peanuts had room to improve!). Prices were more reasonable than expected.

Yelp
I wish every neighborhood had one of these! Though definitely petite, it has a everything you'd need on a day to day basis. Their bulk items are very reasonably priced, particularly their MEM tea. The staff is also very friendly and happy to give recommendations.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Well organized space with all the essentials, and then some, to stock a kitchen for someone who cooks regularly. Thorough bulk section with excellent spices and coffee. Diverse selection of produce as well.

Yelp
Super friendly grocer that has vegetables, bulk items, spices, and great bread. Love having a small grocer with great selection in my neighborhood.

Yelp
I heard of this place a while ago and tried to go during the pandemic but they were closed.. finally made it there the other day and i'm disappointed i hadn't tried a lot sooner!! decent selection of fresh produce and really friendly staff. great local option if you don't have a car

K B.

Yelp
There's always a new circumstance in which find myself thinking, "I'm so glad this market opened around the corner from my house!" From having chicken and vegetables during the pandemic shortages to today, when I just need some eggs. Judging by the fact customers are always coming ad going, I am guessing my neighbors feel the same way.

Yelp
it's like a permanent farmer's market don't be fooled by the shop size , they always seem to have what we need ! wonderful staff and delicious produce

Yelp
This place fills a serious void in the area for fresh approachable produce. It has a section where you can buy grains, etc, by the pound and a wonderful but simple produce and meat section. They also have a couple of other local products, such as Greek yogurt from Sophia's which the staff recommended to me and now I can't stop eating. This place has taught me to grocery shop more mindfully and has brought me more in touch with what's in season. We realized we didn't need a super sized supermarket to do our food shopping for two, and this place has it all. Can't say enough about the staff. All the people I've met here are incredibly kind and funny. Thank you for being in our neighborhood!

Yelp
Spectacular little store that has everything you could need to make a meal. Fresh vegetables and fruits galore. Extremely price friendly. Milk, butter, bread sugar are available too. Small selection of premium packaged meats to add to your bag of vegetables. Street parking is available for a quick stop.

Yelp
Matt and Heather have started a revolution. Why go to a giant store when you can get what you need right around the corner? It is so incredibly helpful to have a green grocer in what was really a food desert. They've adjusted during COVID so only one person is in the store at a time and they get whatever's on your list. You can also order online and pickup in Gilman or their new location in Ball Sq. Prices are great and I love being able to walk, bike, or ski there.

Yelp
I'm so excited for Neighborhood Produce to be opening in our neighborhood! I'm placing an order as soon as they're open on Friday. They're doing online pickup only for now. Great variety of veggies, fruits, dairy, bread, and bulk spices, grains, and teas.

John G.

Yelp
Prices are way too high for product that isn't always fresh. I understand that they don't want to throw produce away, but lower prices then when an item is no longer fresh. Isn't that fair?

Yelp
Wonderful little store that packs virtually everything you could need. I love all the locally sourced cheeses and dairy. The produce is beautiful and fresh. They're very covid-19 observant, with sanitizer, strict mask policy and option for online ordering. Love this place!

Yelp
Always has what I need and want, at prices that are comparable or lower to the big grocery stores. Smaller store means quick in and out and I can walk there! Hot coffee available all day. BONUS: Ice cream store next door!

Yelp
I love this place. It's a tiny shop, with virtually everything I need to eat. Delicious produce. Excellent bulk spices, grains and pasta. And they have basics like mustard, Catsup and fresh Iggy's bread.

Yelp
Great place, awesome selection. Somehow always ripe avocados. Excellent people/service. I love their bulk section too.

Yelp
Great place! Super nice people, decently priced, awesome selection, fantastic experience overall.

Yelp
Come here for a fruit & veggie & fresh & local food heaven! Words cannot describe how thrilled I was that someone recognized the food desert that is Winter Hill/Magoun Square and took initiative to open this store (thanks Matt!) It's so nice to have fresh produce available to these neighborhoods, and on top of that it is incredibly reasonably priced. Don't be fooled by the small space, there is such a wide variety packed in that I discover something new every time (hello raviolis!) Bulk bins are awesome and I love that I can do a full shopping trip here without using any plastic. I would rather go here than any other grocery store!

Yelp
Just moved into the neighborhood, and I have to say, this place is great! It has a really good selection of staples from local farms. The milk is absolutely delicious, and comes in glass containers that you can return (there is an initial deposit). The produce is seasonal and tastes great. They have a nice little spice selection in the back (including cardamom pods, which can be hard to find), and a bulk foods area with all the basics (rice, oats, beans, dried fruit). There are some boxed/canned goods, and some bread from the Winter Hill bakery. Open late, and very convenient for folks in the neighborhood - if we're missing anything, we just run around the corner and grab it. Thank you so much to Matt, for making it possible to get fresh, local food in Winter Hill and helping us reduce packaging waste!

Yelp
Love popping in here for staples. Also, my wife and I are trying to use fewer disposable containers, so I really like that their bulk selection is good. The produce is attractive, and they typically have 90% of the whole foods that I'm looking for. 5 stars.

Lisa P.

Yelp
I feel so grateful to have such a great place for quality produce, right around the corner from my home. The staff is knowledgeable, ultra friendly and always available to help. Their prices are affordable and quite competitive when compared to the big grocery chains. This place is my go-to spot, especially for last minute items I may need for a recipe. It felt like a safe spot to shop during COVID, as the employees are the only ones handling products and only one person allowed in the store at a time. I tell everyone about this little gem of a store. Much gratitude from a local neighbor!!

Marlena B.

Yelp
Perfect little grocery store. There is fresh fruit, veggies, noodles and other dry food (think nuts, oatmeal and rice). Prices are great and service is wonderful. I hope this stays here for good!

Rachel B.

Yelp
Neighborhood Produce is an awesome locally-owned store! In response to COVID, Neighborhood Produce has created a curbside pick-up option that is really easy to order online and way more reliable than other delivery options. I also love being able to still get some bulk items during this time (e.g. dried beans and nuts that come in a paper bag). Thank you, Matt and Heather, for all your work!

Demiss S.

Yelp
While making a Western Union transaction today around 8:30pm, all of a sudden the customer service associate left me in the middle of the paper work without any explanation to serve five or more other customers at the grocery cash register. I later complained to the worker and then to the manager. To my surprise, they both told me that the owner has instructed them to give priority to groceries. I have never experienced such an unfair, obsolete and bad business policy in my life. They probably make more money on foodstuff but to abandoned me in the middle of a transaction process in order to serve other customers that look different from me but came after me is unheard of and is outright rude, to say the least. I am a long-time resident of the village and I was also a regular shopper at Village Market. Today they lost me as a customer.

Ian G.

Yelp
This store makes me so happy that there's finally fresh produce in the area. Prices on fruit and veggies are pretty good, and I like the by-the-pound dry goods.

Pj R.

Yelp
The shop is a huge addition to the neighborhood. A neighborhood store that actually stocks produce that's high quality, along with pantry staples, relieved a ton of the hassle of getting groceries. Matt, who runs the place, is a really friendly and thoughtful person. He cares what his customers think and is responsive to our requests.

Meg M.

Yelp
This little local spot is great! Not a huge selection, but a great selection of fruits and veggies that are in season depending on what time of year you go. Matt the owner, tries to buy as much locally as possible which is wonderful! Also, they have the staples of milk, eggs, bread and a small selection of pasta, nuts and dried fruit. We will definitely be back!

Christopher E.

Yelp
Right from the start, a fantastic addition to the Winter Hill neighborhood - from the farmer's market concept partnering to the November, 2017 opening, just in time for Thanksgiving, a great place that was in need of a great place got a great place! Matt's the cream at the top, a grocer who knows his stuff and recognizes what folks are looking for in a friendly neighborhood location - close, cozy, but stocked just right!
