Neighborhood BBQ Review - Burbank - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The best BBQ is built on four pillars of flavor: Smoke, spice, fat, and salt. But these tastes are traditionally all about oomph, meaning there’s not a lot of room for nuance. Or so I thought, until I tried the home-barbecued sets from Neighborhood BBQ, a new pop-up born straight from a pandemic-related closure. Neighborhood serves a weekly feast to-go from different pick-up points in East LA - each set involves a main protein, like a whole-smoked chicken, baby back ribs, or a beef rib big enough to have come from a brontosaurus, plus all the fixings. The mains change each week, but that dinosaur - er, beef - rib is among the best things I’ve eaten this year. It’s impressive enough based on size alone, and nicely charred, but it’s the subtle flourishes that make it a true standout. It’s so precisely cooked that tiny pools of rendered fat melt out with each cut, and complemented by a cherry and smoked tomato BBQ sauce that adds a bite of vinegar and a note of sweetness, making the velvety beef pop with nuanced flavor. photo credit: Brett Keating There’s just as much subtlety in those sides, which are highlighted by mac & cheese shells that involve Velveeta and truffles, a genius and genuinely deadly combination. The brown butter cornbread adds some more sweetness to the meal, while the herb-heavy little gems salad with creamy green goddess dressing offsets a bit of all the heaviness in the feast - and let’s be honest, you’re going to need at least one vegetable in a meal like this. There’s even a rotating selection of bottled tropical cocktails that are on par with some of the best tiki-style bars in the city. The man behind the meats is Erik Piedrahita, the former executive sous chef at Bon Temps, a tremendous French restaurant (and one of our Best New Restaurants in 2019) that closed earlier this year due to COVID-19. Shortly after Bon Temps closed, he built out a full backyard barbecue set-up to smoke and grill these meats over oak wood, and started selling it via Instagram, with weekly pick-up from different spots in East LA. Which isn’t a bad thing, since you’re going to want to rip the tin foil covers off these dishes and dive in way before you make it home. So it’s a great opportunity to turn this into a picnic - bring a couple of your closest quarantine buddies and a blanket you don’t mind getting some grease stains on. This BBQ might be a little more nuanced than most, but it’s still BBQ... eating it outside is practically a prerequisite. Food Rundown photo credit: Brett Keating Beef Rib This beautifully charred beef rib is everything you want in a piece of barbecued meat - every bite has incredible amounts of smoke and fat. I’m not afraid to admit I licked the smoked tomato BBQ sauce out of its container when I was done with the meat, either. photo credit: Brett Keating Painkiller Don’t even consider not ordering a bottled cocktail to go with your meal. Their Painkiller, in particular is absolutely remarkable - it’s tropical, smooth, and refreshing, exactly how we want our rum drinks to be. This even comes with maraschino cherries, fresh ground nutmeg, and a tiny umbrella. Bonus: A single serving of this could knock out Jack Sparrow. Shells & Cheese It’s truly the work of an evil genius to combine black truffles and Velveeta. No shock: The high-low one-two punch works perfectly in this great version of mac & cheese. Pickles You get enough pickles with this feast to make a meal of them alone - and I’d honestly do it. There is sweet pickled melon, dill cucumbers, aromatic red onions, and some remarkable spicy peppers." - Brett Keating

I had the brisket sandwich with mac and cheese. Pretty decent brisket. It was a bit dry but it was from the flat and the overall flavor was good. The mac and cheese is absolutely delicious ! I also enjoyed the BBQ sauce! I will be back to try more items!

We stopped by and had the best BBQ. The potato salad is delicious and truly homemade. Mac and Cheese is delicious. My friend had the sampler and I choose to try the Meatloaf sandwich which was delicious.

I stopped by for the berry Kolashes that I saw on Facebook and they are so good! Next time I'm going to try a savory one too. Food truck is conveniently located and easy accessible parking in the lot. Great friendly service and I look forward to going back to try their BBQ menu soon!

This is the second time we have had the BBQ truck for our employees at Costco. My husband is addicted to all of their food. Thank you for bringing your delicious truck and making everyone happy today!

I can’t believe we waited so long to try this place. This is BBQ done the way it should be. The meat stands on its own, the sauce is just a bonus! Fantastic flavoring, you can taste the dedication to the craft. Every bite left you looking forward to the next bite. The best way to end the meal was the chilled, creamy, not-to-sweet banana pudding. While this meal is over, I’m already looking forward to the next!

Pulled pork sandwich with potato salad, and a lemonade. Simply fantastic. One of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had!

I have been dying to try this place! I stopped by the HUB today and they still had food. I got pulled pork sandwich and she also gave me some extra brisket to try. The food was so good! This is my new favorite bbq place. Just make sure you go early because they only make enough for the day - like all good BBQ places should.

Yelp
I visited neighbor's BBQ for the first time on Saturday to pick up a meal for the family. The order consisted of brisket, sausage, pulled pork, potato salad, mac and cheese, baked beans, and banana pudding. Each of these dishes was well prepared and had great flavor and texture. I should add that all of the food is homemade , there are no 'store bought" sides. I am a big fan of Texas barbecue and rate this right up with some of the best in the state. I strongly recommend visiting this veteran-owned establishment for great food. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Tried the sampler plate and several of the sides. The pulled pork was my least favorite meat. The chicken was really good, and so were the ribs. Normally brisket is my absolute favorite, and I would say this was just average with not a ton of flavor. It was actually better cold later. None of the meat tasted super smokey to me, but it was good. I really liked both the potato salad and coleslaw. The baked beans were too sweet for me, but if that's your thing you'd probably like them.

Yelp
My husband and I where visiting Prosser Wa from the the Tri-Cities. We decided to have lunch at Neighbor's BBQ in Prosser and we were not disappointed. I had the barbecued sampler and my husband had a barbecued brisket sandwich. Both meals very delicious. I had tons of food left over which will make great eating for lunch tomorrow. My sampler was big enough to have shared with my husband. I think it was the best BBQ I have had since visiting Texas. The hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 11am until 3pm. If you find yourself in the aria, it's a great place to go for lunch or early dinner.

Yelp
Went there to inquiry about their Barbecue , and the lady who owns it was so rude to me, I thought I didn't need to give my business to someone who acts like that. I wouldn't recommend them!

Yelp
Wowza! If you're looking for authentic Texas BBQ, then look no further. We had the spare ribs and the smoked meatloaf sandwich and both were incredible. Smoke all the way to the bone, perfect rub, and tender meat on the ribs and big, smokey flavor on the meatloaf that held together with great sauce. Not only is the food amazing, but the friendly Southern hospitality shines through too. Worth the 3 hour drive to try them out -- and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
My wife and I love visiting Prosser and not sure how we missed Neighbor's last time we were here, but I'm glad I found them on our last visit. I had the Sampler and my wife had the meatloaf. This was some of the best BBQ we've had and I'm an avid smoker myself. My favorite were the ribs since they had a subtle peppery rub and smoked perfectly. In fact, I loved it so much I went back for more later in the day, but sadly they were sold out of almost everything. I recommend finding out what hours they are open because they will vary throughout the year and when you go, go early in the day.

Yelp
Maybe the best place in the town of Prosser for lunch period. There so good they only need to be open a few days a week. Come early if you want some of their moth watering authentic smoked BBQ ribs. Served till they sell out an thats ,Right quick. Have tried it all now, ribs, brisket, pulled pork and most the sides. Yet to have a bad experience. So if you find yourself in the charming town of Prosser and you happen to be lucky enough to be there on one of the days their open, don't hesitate and go find out for yourself.

Yelp
Best bbq around by far. The owners are legit Texan perfectionists. The restaurant is comfortable, clean and pleasantly decorated. The food is over the top amazing - homemade buns, high quality meats, creative menu items if you want something different (hello smoked meatloaf sandwich to die for!). You want real Texas brisket ? Get it here. Pulled pork fan? Ribs? Get it all because you just can't go wrong. Keep up the good work Neighbors! Call us impressed.

Yelp
Really good baby back ribs and mashed potato went on a rainy day but I'm sure when it's nice and warm the bbq be out there smoking, really good location lots of parking on the side good customer service also. Ribs are so juicy and packed with flavor they literally fall off the ....mmmm delicious food here and expecting to go back and try there beef brisket that was sold out at the time.

Yelp
Noisy acoustics but tender tasty meats. Coleslaw is light; a balance to the barbecue ribs. Not slathered in sugar. Real barbecue. Pulled pork on a baked potato was good. So big took 1/2 home for dinner. Yum.

Great place to stop and get a quality lunch. I had the tri-tip sandwich which was delicious. The meat was tender and very flavorful. I chose the Mac and cheese for my side which was delicious. I will be back!

Yelp
They earned every star! We had a large graduation party and smoked to perfection brisket was our main meat. Everyone raves about how good it was a perfect smoke and melt in your mouth tender. Our family has southern standards for our BBQ and Neighbor's rocked. If you have an excuse to try this BBQ you must!

Yelp
Neighbor's BBQ is serving delicious authentic Texas BBQ, just like we use to get living in Texas. The meatloaf sandwich and mac-n-cheese and chocolate pie taste amazing! The owners are great, hometown people who have even opened back up to serve us (thank you again for that). Ask for burnt ends, you will not sorry!
