Easily the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The food was extremely disappointing — bland, uninspired, and several dishes arrived cold. For a restaurant charging €120 for a steak, this is completely unacceptable.
There was effectively no service. Our server appeared very nervous and clearly did not know the menu well, offering nothing beyond hesitantly taking our order. We were never checked on and had to repeatedly pull someone’s attention anytime we needed anything. We were seated beside the bar where staff stood directly over us chatting among themselves and scrolling on their phones, which only added to how uncomfortable the experience felt.
The atmosphere was unbearable. Dermot Kennedy songs were played on repeat at full volume for the entire meal, making conversation difficult and completely ruining any chance of enjoying the evening.
Things worsened when we asked to have over half of our €120 steak boxed up, as we were so uncomfortable we just wanted to leave and finish it at home — something they said they could do — only for it to be thrown out instead. When we raised this, a young staff member initially offered a free dessert, which we obviously refused given the situation. At this point, she had to call the manager back after he had already left the restaurant.
When the manager returned instead of apologising or attempting to resolve the issue, he was immediately aggressive and hostile. He appeared clearly annoyed that his night had been interrupted and spoke to us in an intimidating manner, as though he assumed we were young customers he could simply talk over or take advantage of. Not once did he apologise for throwing out our food. Instead, he claimed they would have been “doing us a favour” by boxing it up and insisted we had no choice but to pay the full bill.
The interaction became even more unprofessional when he abruptly walked away mid-sentence to grab the bill. My fiancée followed him in an effort to calm the situation and handle it appropriately — something that should never have been her responsibility. It was only when she asked for his name—which he refused to give— that he even acknowledged her. At no point should guests be forced to “gentle parent” a manager in a restaurant of this supposed standard.
To make matters worse, the manager had left halfway through our dinner initially, leaving the restaurant seemingly run by a group of teenagers who appeared nervous, overwhelmed, and unsupported. A place charging these prices should always have proper management present.
This dinner was meant in celebration, which had been clearly noted in the reservation. Not once was this acknowledged, and nothing about the experience felt special, considered, or worthy of a celebration. Given that this restaurant markets itself as a higher-calibre dining experience, this was deeply disappointing. I would strongly advise against choosing this place for any kind of celebration.
Between the poor food, nonexistent service, uncomfortable atmosphere, and shockingly unprofessional management, this was a truly awful experience. We will never return.
